So helpful! Now I know what I need to get and its gonna be easier to use an oil can to prime the turbo
To the point, hits every important area. Slows down and speeds up where needed. Excellent Video thankyou.
Will be using this video to replace shot turbo on 2005 Baja Turbo. Great video man!!
Very helpful video! Had a shot turbo on my 2005 Forester and will replace it this week-end. Thank you for taking the time to post it.
how did it go man? replacing my 2010 turbo rn
@@mrswazey9161 the turbocharger install was easy. I had to disconnect the tail pipe midway where those bolts with springs were installed in order the pull the shot turbocharger out.I purchased new bolts and springs from the Rock Auto including the turbocharger and its oil return line hose. It came with all instructions and how to oil “prime it”.The new turbocharger came with new metal gasket. The hardest thing was to put the thermal shield back and to install the hose clamp over the turbocharger oil return line. I had to buy a long nose pliers from Harbor Freight and slide the hose clamp over the return line hose . The only way to access it was from under the car… I drained all the coolant and put new coolant , properly burped the cooling system and added coolant into the expansion bowl at the end… Took the car for a ride around the block a few times then on a longer ride on I-5…It runs like new now. The only thing I did not like is the lack of room to work around the engine …Follow the guidelines in the video and you should be good to go. It was my first turbocharger replacement and this video is for noobies like me…
Good luck!
good video man,did mine in my impreza same method,no problems👍👍
I bought a used oem with 17k miles onnit over the ebay China one how is yours holding up?
Do you drain / flush the coolant prior to removal?
Do I have to disconnect the o2 sensor or can I just disconnect battery
Love the channel! Great tutorial
Yo Can i install one on my (NA) suabru impreza 2006 2.0 r GD9 160 hp?
how long should it take ?
Thanks man and in process of taking turbo off thanks heaps Great brother
by the way... these instructions will work for all turbo forester 1999-2007 as far as im aware there a very minimal differences untill the late 2000s forrys.
heck its almost identical even from the 1997 foresters
Nothing but quality, well done!
Thanks!
What year is your 🚗?
Will do this myself, thanks bro
What’s up bro!! ❤️ love the channel
Thank you man
Great video helped out alot
very helpful thank you!!
Best tutorial, besides the evo rebuild
Thanks TJ
Do you have to drain coolant or is there a way you can block the lines
You can put a bolt?
Do I need to have the car tuned after putting a new turbo in
for an oem replacement no but if youre upgrading to like a td05 which is a common upgrade on subarus yes because the inlet and psi it makes is bigger
Can I just have or buy one of your sti🤦🏽♂️💯
Short but simple 👌
Good vid, thanks! What parts do you need to replace when you're putting it back together? Like do you need to replace the nuts or lower exhaust gaskets? I ask because Toyota exhaust nuts are the metal locking type and there's a good chance they'll come loose if you try to reuse 'em... Learned that the hard way!
just got a new turbo to downpipe gasket for my vf39, and just now learned you should replace exhaust studs every time, so get those
+ the OEM nuts
Thanks Klem!
@@jdub1922 if the studs/nuts are intact you may be able to get away with reusing them but have a couple of each on stanby if not - a fellow v39 owner
After replacing mine, I now have oil leaking from the bottom of the up pipe around the bolt. Anyone know what is causing this?
From the oil return line most likely
Thank you sir!!!!!
My coolant return like is actually so stuck. Been on it for 30 mins already lol... thanks for the vid tho. Helped a lot.
Get the chainsaw
Picks are great too
How did you learn all this?
All self taught
my 07 sti turbo just went out finally after 160k, i’m gonna put another stock one in, can i follow these same steps??
Yes you can
I'm mad I'm learning from a Chad
*gigachad
sweet vids
Thank you
Did you do this to upgrade your turbo if so to what turbo?
A turbocharger.
@@nurawis1 you missunderstood this guy, hes asking if the turbo replacement is an upgrade if so what turbo is he upgrading to
@@bearle97 Ignore it, bro. I'm just kidding.
I’m confused why you need to remove the exhaust?
Were you able to do it without removing the exhaust? I’m about to do it now and was wondering the same thing
only need to remove downpipe, catback doesnt need to be removed
Hey big dog could use another video
I don't understand why you're removing the intercooler and downpipe....
Anthony Tini you need to remove intercooler cause the turbo was under it but the down pipe I don’t get why he did that
The reason you remove the downpipe is because it’s bolted to the hot side of the turbo, and because there’s (3) 14mm nuts that bolt the turbo to the up pipe. One of those are located right under the downpipe with zero room to work with. So it had to come off anyway.
