    Thanks for posting this video man, watching how you shoved, wiggled, and massaged the new inlet in really helped to understand the method of getting it in, I just installed my new inlet this afternoon and it went in without a hitch.

    Nice work. It took me 2hrs. Need to do again cos I bought one that narrows because it doesn't change angle enough to get around the corner of the tgv manifold area. I bought a samco one so watching this till mine comes. Feeling confident watching this.

    just fitted a £50 ebay one, found removing the old one more of a pain, especially when the spring clip for your D/V pipe is upside down, putting the new one in is just a case of squeeze / rotate and push in no particular order.
    I found the hook tool essential for fitting around the turbo inlet, mine was quite a way off and only the hook tool worked, mini ones from halfords for £3.
    hopefully being a cheap one it won't suck closed .

    after watching this video, it was easy to make the decision to do this the **correct** way, and pull up the intake manifold
    - just tear it to pieces
    - if intake is painted you might want to try and prevent scratches
    - i'm gonna cut a chunk off this brand new inlet and just ram it through everything to save me 30min
    - "you can see it never lines up quite right, that's normal"
    ... things you never want to hear from someone working on your car

My return hose is old and stiff like hell, there was no way to connect it to the built in tomei. Think the fuel leak is just a loose hose clamp on the rubber hose to the hardline right near the front of the engine on the turbo inlet side.

    • @jasonrichards2134
      @jasonrichards2134 3 года назад +1

      You will not need a tune if the part is installed correctly with no air leaks. It is very important that all connections have clamps or minimum zip ties and have no leak it is a low pressure part but it is post MAF so it must be free from air leaks.

    Wouldn't be easier just to remove the manifold?

    • @MV60
      @MV60 8 лет назад +2

      Nope, what is easier is to spray it down with silicone spray then push it in at step 11. EASY. Put a bit on the turbo flange and it just pops right on as you push it right in. Man, don't push silicone parts in dry. lol. Way too much friction. BTW you can very easily put the bov return bit in later too. No need to have it pre-installed. These gd era wrx's are so easy to work on. Try my 2000 gc8. I had to get my dremel in to trim the fuel line bracket near the bov return before it fit.

      Its not to gain horse power, its to prevent inlet collapse during boost and as a replacement for the crappy plastic factory one.

    • @camvvti
      @camvvti 8 лет назад +1

      its low pressure tho... its before the turbo

    • @Loucfr
      @Loucfr 8 лет назад +6

      Air intakes at idle, even with turbo applications, are low pressure. However this is a negative pressure due to the pressure inside the intake being much lower than the pressure outside of the intake. This internal negative pressure rises when your rpm increases. The higher the negative pressure, the faster air is sucked in. This pressure is what MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensors read to calculate fuel. With turbo engines you pass a point where this pressure rises linearly, aka entering boost. At that point, negative pressure increases exponentially and thus air is literally forced in instead. This is why turbo cars that dyno have a very sharp increase in power towards the end of the run. If you were to have a worn out and flimsy turbo inlet hose, this exponential rise in negative pressure could suck in more air than your filter allows thus collapsing the inlet tube. Think of trying to drink a thick milkshake through a straw. If you drink it too fast, the straw will collapse. Same principle applies here. Sorry to have such a long reply lol I hope you understand what I was trying to explain and keep in mind this is a very basic explanation.

    • @chrisss1223
      @chrisss1223 8 лет назад

      I'm late, but since this is raising RPMs and air is being sucked in at a faster rate. wouldn't that potentially cause the AF ratio to become lean? wouldn't you need to retune. not flash tune.

    • @Loucfr
      @Loucfr 8 лет назад +1

      It would change it marginally but nothing that would require an immediate tune. A flash tune is a retune because you're still writing to the computer and changing parameters. Every simple modification requires a tune, but most people don't do it because its not worth it. Instead they only tune when there are large modifications done such as injectors, modifying the intercooler routing, or upgrade your turbo. Usually when you upgrade your turbo, its wise to do the other two because they are supporting mods. In this case, airflow itself isn't really affected, only turbulence is. Once you get past boost, your turbo is forcing air in and will do so at almost the same rate as it did before.

      @@gohardorgohome7687 depends...how many miles do you have on it? I have 210k and my intake tube is fine but the other rubber parts are hardened up. I'd recommend assessing everything as a whole before deciding. If you do remove something at least make sure you have replacement gaskets ready in case you need them.

    “Non reusable” clamps 2:00 min. Just say you don’t have the right tool
