I had a 07 IS250 6MT, it had about 250km on it when I got rid of it, only thing I had to replace while owning it was the ac compressor. Now I have the 06 IS350 and I love it, its a baby though, only has 105km, so much more power then the 250 as well.
Yea, the 0-60 in under 5 was worth the upgrade lol, just wish the 350 came in manual. No not much difference in fuel economy at all, maybe 1L/100km difference.
My friend has an accord with 270,000 miles on it. He’s trying to break it down to get a new car but it won’t budge. He’s started using it to tow with a small trailer and it does not hesitate
I brought a 08 Lexus IS250 last year in mint condition with zero problems..but I did get the one with the Nav & for some reason it shows me driving in oceans & uninhabitable places 😕
you can try to find updated maps, they should still update them after 10 years. ask your dealer for availability. it might not be cheap though, and diy can be difficult since you need to aquire the update medium (usually a dvd).
Orville Thomas Just looking at the transmission, a city vehicle shifts many times more vs a highway car that shifts into overdrive and stays there. The clutches aren’t slipping(this happens by nature during every shift) and creates wear. It’s unavoidable. Also, the transmission is brought up to a maximum temperature burning off moisture, which makes components and the fluid last longer vs short trip driving.
@@orvillethomas4464 I have a few good folks here reply to you as well. Average KM is 20k/year or 13.5miles/year. If the car you're looking at exceeds that then it is likely highway driven. Another way to know is looking at the engine run time to know if the engine is running and the car is on stop (like in stop and go situations).
Canadian Rider I put 70,000km since 2014. I brought the car in for carbon build up recall and I never had issues to begin with! And just done regular maintenance, recently changed brakes and rotors myself
Wow that's great to hear. Really wanted to make sure I got her a reliable car that is also very luxurious for the price. The value that this Lexus IS brings is incredible
I have 06 350 With 186K was wondering what things I could do to keep it around for a long time I’ve had it since maybe 165 maybe since last July just made a year now find your videos and falling in love with the car much more !
I bought a 2006 Nissan Titan LE 5.6 with 273,000 km have had it for 6 years, not a single problem. Truck has been to 22 States in the past couple years, I have almost 400,000 km on it now. Bought it from original owner, he was retired and only used it to travel with his wife and pull their trailer. He sold it because they were too old to travel anymore. Awesome truck, still runs like a top!
I've had my '08 IS250 for 6 years now and she's got 118k now. Seeing yours with 250k on it makes me love my car even more. Its a beast in bad weather/snow and my goal is to hit 300k+ on it later in life! Extremely comfortable as well no complaints
I have a similar experience with a used BMW 330ci that I bought about a year ago. It had around 197,000 miles on the clock, but it came from an original owner who bought it brand new and serviced it very well plus the price was fair so I couldn't resist. It now has 211,000 miles on the clock and the only thing that's happened was an ignition coil went out half a year ago which was easy to fix. The oil pan has started leaking, but that's to be expected from most cars with over 200k on the clock and I've already made preparations to replace the pan gasket myself (I'm a trained mechanic so I can get away with some DIY stuff). Otherwise, its been a joy to drive and own since the day I bought it. If you know what to look for and know what you're buying, you shouldn't be afraid of high mileage cars.
@@BeesonsCars Yup my Lexus IS350 2007 has 242k miles and it was the transmission that went out not the engine. And the transmission went out because I am an idiot and never flushed my fluid
@@marzzgli1278 I would make sure you get service records on that. That seems pretty high for 185k miles in my opinion. But I have not paid much attention to prices due to inflation maybe that is average?
The biggest issues with these are the water pumps have pretty early failure. I got mine one owner with all Lexus maintenance records at 70k miles it's at 76-77k miles now 0 issues so far. Spark Plugs coils and water pump was done at 60k don't expect those going bad anytime soon. I should be good until 140k miles
I got rid of My 2006 is250 mt at 235k miles. One day it wouldn’t start, ran prefect even with oil leaks, check engine lights, and burning oil. Mechanic and dealer both said there was no compression, I could of easily tried fixing the issue with a engine rebuild or swap the motor and get another 200k miles on the chassis but ending up just selling it as is. 😢
A year ago I bought a 13 year old Honda Pilot with 393,000km 1 owner with all maintenance records. Everyone called me nuts when they heard the km but I knew this was a good buy. I currently have 416,000km and I have no hesitation in driving cross country with it. Good video. I subbed. Nice buy on the IS. I've always that love gen IS...but the 350. Good advice on the video.
I see a lot of high mileage cars that I would totally drive. The issue with me is that I have severe trust issues. If the service maintenance history isn’t provided to me on Carfax or paperwork, I just assume the last owner never did basic maintenance stuff. Call me pessimistic or just being careful… I need to know how the last person maintained it so I don’t have future maintenance issues. But, for this car even if someone was kind of neglectful , it’s rock solid enough to I could trust it.
Just bought one of these, engine has 110000 miles and it runs like a sleeping baby. No doubt These were probably over engineered and made to the best possible standard, a rarity these days x
I agree Just picked up 2008 Lexus RX 400 H for 6000 180,000 miles Had 1 owner all maint records came with extra factory rims with winter tires Full options including nav leather all options It is a hybrid drove from NY to Minn got 26 mpg ave No rust at all no accidents clean car fax All needs is new summer tires Perfect interior has manuals all tools and accessories like trunk screen and tools
Got a 2006 AWD and it runs great. It is fully loaded with two stage silver paint. I get services done regularly at the Lexus dealership. Only problem had was sticky panels and dash. These were replaced free by Lexus dealers. Got Japanese mirrors, front lip spoiler. Rear spoiler, K& N Air Intake. I have had no carbon issues as, they changed and rebuilt my entire engine recently at 100.00 miles. Looks good and runs very smoothly. Great cars. Next one to buy is the RCF.
Agree 100% with you. Beautiful cars and reliable. In South Africa we have a lot of high mileage cars on our roads. I'm lucky to have bought a new VW, but planning to keep it for about 10 years. (5 down and 5 to go)
So my Lexus IS Has 128k miles or 193k kilometers. I don’t have any severe issues with the car, however a few things did need to be replaced. They were a couple sensors in there that got really bad because it got old. PCV valve and also an ABS sensor went bad. These are only smaller stuff so that was annoying, but overall this car hasn’t needed anything major like an engine rebuilt ! Lol. The only “major”thing I did was replace the water pump and thermostat. I do fuel induction cleaning yearly to help out with the carbon buildup.
Yeah, 100% agree. I have picked up some really good high millage cars in the past. Plus Toyota/Lexus make very good cars. Not too many lemons. I just purchased a 89 JDM Celsior (Toyota badged Lexus LS400). Its completely original with 200,000Km. Its never had the motor cracked open and the auto is untouched (except for oil and filter changes). It still has the original Stainless Steel exhaust! It runs like a dream. It has a few small electronic problems that I'm currently sorting out, but hay, its a 29 year old Vehicle! The engines in the LS models can last a million miles with only general maintenance. The Auto wont do that, but none will (clutches and bands wear as expected). Toyota in General, and Lexus in particular are over engineered and built to last (or were). Same goes for most Japanese cars. Same goes with their Motorbikes. But be warned everyone. The industry is changing. In general cars are only built to last 5 years now. I've yet to see if Japan is following suite, but all other countries are going or have already gone that way. It'll soon get to the point were only the VERY expensive cars might last, but typically they are also expensive to maintain.
you make a good point. however, where do you base your statement on "cars are only built to last 5 years." care to share an article from a reliable source? because that statement sure is bold to say, not to say the least that it is not true.
Bought my car back in 07 brand new. Here is the list of issues I had over time: -Carbon buildup (common issue on the IS250) Major Recall -Failed nav screen after 6 years of ownership Fixed under warranty -Sticky/melting Dash (common on both IS250/350) in high heat/humid areas. Fixed under warranty/recall -Cracked windeshield drip moldings. They deteriorate over time. Fixed myself. -Speedo needles LED died over time. Replaced under warranty. -Passenger lumbar support motor failed fixed under warranty. -Rear view mirror spotting fixed under warranty. You can find a complete list of TSIB's and Recalls on the ClubLexus forums. I still love my car regardless! I only put 68,000 miles/110,000km on my car.
Over 200k miles on mine and engine and trans still going strong with proper maintenance and fluid change for both. All the older Lexus and Toyotas were build to last almost forever. That is why I only by used Toyotas and Lexus now.
Thank you so much for your video ! It's the best advice I can get as I'm considering buying a 290K Lexus Is250 on Kijiji ! I just got my G2 so I'm new to everything related to cars. My plan was going to buy a new NX220t because I thought low mileage cars would be safer for new drivers. Apparently I was wrong lol.
Absolutely! I recently purchased a 2008 Lexus GS350 with 250K miles, one owner, all maintenance done at the dealership for $7000. No accidents, mint condition. Plus I’m a huge Lexus fan. I have three others as well for my kids and an extra for mods.
I have a used 11 350GS and it is perfection. They have dual injectors to clean the valves. The 250 and 300 have some issues with the direct injection putting deposits on the valves because the valves never get cleaned like in the 350. Eventually you get a CEL and you have to do some serious work. They also have an oil consumption problem where the pistons get their drainback valves clogged. That may be a maintenance issue. Many were recalled and remedied. I don't think those engines are good choices. The first problem is pretty certain to happen.
The GS 460(extremely rare) and the LS share a powertrain. The GS350 shares with the IS350. I use Pennzoil Platinum high mileage, with a 5k oci, hopefully it can be prevented if there is an issue. GS 350s were never recalled for the oil issues though. I never heard any issues on the forums either. I changed my PCV valve too, will do it every 50K.
I bought my Lexus is350 with 193,000km and it had had the fuel pump, battery, abs sensor and small electrical problems. It had died on me 4 times and I've had enough with it. Anyone with similar issues to me as I hate my car
It seems the previous owner abused the car. Fuel pump is because he ran the car with no fuel, battery is normal, etc. I work with Lexus cars and never had any customers complain about them. Just make sure to see the carfax for a used car. Even an abused Toyota Camry will not last. But overall a Lexus engine would cost 500-600 dollars so whatever happens its still reliable.
Agree but in the UK our heritage is of terrible homebuilt cars. Thus legacy extends to today where believe it or not the average person considers 50-60k miles fairly 'high' mileage. Back to the r8 the cheapest ones are 90-100,000 miles. With a full service record you think those cars (V8) would be ok? As far as I can see the car is pretty bullet proof and we'll put together. Apart perhaps from carbon deposits in the fuel inlets.
In America that translates to 155000 Miles which is nothing for a Lexus or Toyota you can easily put 300,000 miles on these cars which would I guess equivalate to 500000 km so no worries guys
Great to hear honestly this car is so reliable. Toyota / Lexus did such a phenomenal job with this generation. This is something we Germans could learn from
Here is the Caviat. 2006 IS250 The Alternator will go out atleast once. The Transmission is Garbage for this year Could be a Solenoid or something else. The Transmission Wire might fail ( ECU to Transmission, not internal wires) Usually happens 100K to 130 Miles. It could be a domino effect of wire not working then solenoids not working then trans gets burnt out. The passenger rear brake caliper tends to seize at some point. Navigation Touch Screen will go bad needs fixing. Rear tire inner wear LCA bushings may need replacing.
awesome vid. I just bought a 2013 Gs350 with 70k miles on it (I'm in the US). My mom, wife, and sister all bought Camrys three years ago and the only think we changed on ALL three cars is the rear wheel bearing on my wires car. other than tires and brakes, you know, regular maintenance stuff. Toyotas are the best man. I refuse to drive anything else!!!!
Mine gets terrible gas mileage for the size of the car 19.5mpg 160k miles it just got louder & started shifting hard i keep everything up on it & use royal purple oil every 4k miles which they usually got 5-6k miles before a change & always premium gas so i have no clue why it just started running like shit
Agree with this entire video, my uncle drives a 2015 Subaru Impreza and put 220,000 kms on it (had it since new) and has never had to replace anything not even tires until recently. Meanwhile my mom has a 2007 Infiniti G35x with 160,000 kms (put 50,000 kms on it) that has been reliable for the most part but we’ve had to replace ball joints, new tires, brakes (gonna be the 3rd time now since we had it) headlight bulbs, plastic engine components etc. No offence to my mom but when it comes to cars she likes to take the cheaper route in terms of maintenance whenever she can and often ignores issues. Meanwhile my uncle spends the extra dollar. Its clear that it worked in his favour as hes never had to replace anything and has had the car for such a long time. I definitely believe people should NOT be scared of by high mileage if the car has been maintained well.
I bought a 2010 1 owner IS250 in 2017 with 32k miles. High pressure fuel pump went at 50k miles right AFTER I put an intake and exhaust...my fault perhaps but covered under the warranty I purchased. Besides that, it's been flawless since then. Great car.
Great video, I love high mileage car videos! I have the IS 250 too, granted with much less mileage. My SC 430 has 135k miles on it! PS I have Lexus videos too if you wish to see them?
Two weeks ago I just purchased a 2009 Lexus IS 250 6MT with 105,000km for $11,500. Super stoked with this car. It feels so solid and has a nice exhaust note. Definitely would recommend this car to anyone.
The main issue is dangerous or inconvenient breakdowns. I don't want a car to explode at 100 mph or to breakdown when I'm on a deserted road at night in the wilderness, 100 miles from civilisation. Is it possible for a Lexus to suddenly have a drastic breakdown?
You can't appreciate a Lexus until you own one. Hands down the best overall cars on the road. Those that knock them have likely not even sat in one. They may not be the best in every category, but overall, there's nothing better.
I'd totally agree with you. I'm not ashamed of my miles when ppl ask. At the end it's my car, paid off and I'm very happy with the car so. And I know those Lexus could run for 300kmiles easy with proper maintenance. I have 2004 GS300 with 210k miles. I'm keeping up with replacing the old parts for preventive maintenance by slowly ever since i bought the car. I have a feeling my gs300 would run for another 50k-100k without any major motor/ transmission issues! Plus despite the high mileage and being all original, it doesn't have that stupid electrical issues neither! All my electronics work great! I'd definitely recommend ppl to buy used Lexus cars over used German or American cars for the reliability.
I have a 2008 is250 same color as hers pretty much identical with 176k miles. I've loved it. They're great cars and they get good mileage. Thnx for the video!
Thanks for the advice my G. I'll be car shopping in 2019. My car has run its course at almost 300k km, and I really don't want to put anymore money into it. I was thinking of going new, but what you said does make some sense.
Hey Brett what kind of cars were you considering? Honestly unless you're really well off buying a brand new car in my opinion is a bad financial decision. You're going to lose a tremendous amount of value within the first 2 years. I am always a fan of buying a one-year-old with a very few kilometer car where's someone is taking the depreciation hit for you
Brett Adams NEVER BUY NEW. Let some other fool pay for all the depreciation the first 3 or 4 years. Then you swoop in and pick up a great car as it nears the bottom of its depreciation cycle. After 3 or 4 years a well cared for lexus is still virtually brand new.
Im looking at a is 250 2009..94,000 miles . they want 9227...very good looking .sky blueish..good buy . reliable.?? Im tired of the 96 deville..northstar engine. Always problems.
@@carswithsonduren update! I just bought it, but because I’m away I’ve had to ask someone to pick it up for me so I’ll only see it when I get back at the end of the month
I had a 2001 GMC Sierra sle ext cab with the 6.5 ft bed. It had the 4.8 v8 . I bought it brand new back in 2001 . I lasted till 310,000 miles. It needed a head gasket and fee repairs. So I sold it. The guy who bought it was a mechanic. He fixed it and is still running. Kinda regret selling it . Now I'm looking to buy a used 2016 Lexus GS 350 .
Not reliable at all, those spark plug seals, those camshaft sensor and crankshaft valve cover gasket, timing chain issues, every month add oil, i’m tired of those vq engines, unreliable
Mine is Lexus 02 GS300 with 206,000 and no issues but minor and irritating with inoperable rear window not working, door locking mechanism broken, one day light lamp turns off when headlights is turned on and that’s it. Engine and transmission is perfect!
I have a 2007 Honda Accord with 304,000 miles on it right now. Bought it in 2020 with 250,000 miles. The car has the original engine and transmission that it was built with. Only thing I had to do was basic wear and tear repairs and get a new A/C compressor. The car runs smooth almost like new.
@@carswithsonduren Around C$270. But that’s in Singapore where labour isn’t as expensive as Canada (I think). The part from Toyota is probably C$200 and it took around 2 hours by a competent mechanic. Only the engine manifold and air hose connected to the throttle body need to come off.
Hey! Britney hear and I want to say this car is sexy. I need one. Obviously I can afford a brand new one, but I like these mid 2000's cars. Reminds me of when my career was still relevant. No one listens to my music anymore. Sad!
I drive a 2010.. with 50K miles,.. aside from it's small car busy like ride, around town.. it is a compliant whisper quiet free way cruiser.. I'll keeping it forever...🙌🙌🙌
I have a 2011 is250 and the only maintenance I am doing is removing little surface rust (Welcome to Canada) and little scratches which can be buff. Other than that it is awesome! Not as fast and performance is a bit below to the german cars but it will last longer.
Even the new is250, I have the IS250 F sport RWD sedan. I can tell you 3 year ownership having no problems so far , accept replacing brake pads rotors, engine maintenance etc otherwise nothing has failed me in that car, that’s why I love it! I have an exhaust on it and custom work to it :)
I recently bought a 2006 Lexus I have only one problem I bought it from a cheap dealer but it won't start ?? Should I buy a Lexus battery or off market ?!?!
Bro I am.so thankful.to come across this video been looking for second car currently in a 94 explorer had since 2010 I been looking at the lexus i found a 2007 awd is250 180k one owner garage kept full loaded beautiful car service by lexus like a baby I seen your video about milage I am.super stoked I want your opioun and advice I told him.to hold.the car for me Saturday tell me what you think thankyou
Commented on one of your videos before, but I want to ask: For my automatic transmission , if I can feel a very very soft nudge when the gears change in lower gears, is that normal? My car never jerks or shakes during driving, but because I can feel everything I notice these very small sensations. I mean I can just be very sensitive to what I can feel or maybe it needs new transmission fluid, but as i said... for the most part the car drives superbly. I would need to be paying attention in order to feel the lower gear shifts (sometimes it’s not even noticeable). It’s just when I’m stopped and go into gear 1 and 2 where I feel a gentle nudge. Ever so softly. I mean if it was a bad transmission it would be way more Obvious like not being able to go into reverse, which my car does fine. Sorry for the paragraph, but since this is a new car to me I have lots of questions.
@@carswithsonduren of course all cars shift gears ⚙️ so Yes thanks for confirming this is normal. I just would hate to rebuilt my transmission one day , that has never happened to me ever (knock on wood). I hear that’s like $6k but these cars are basically lavish Toyota’s. They shouldn’t break lol.
2011 Ford Escape XLT... 3.0 liter V-6, 6 Speed auto, AWD. 217 thousand on the clock and am only recently beginning to replace worn parts. Leaky A/C condensor I replaced last year. First actual failed part at about 180 thousand. I replaced the dryer and expansion valve along with it. A few weeks ago the A/C compressor died. It couldn't have waited till October...sigh. This year also, new front lower control arms, ball joints, tie rods, sway bar link pins, front struts and rear shocks. Engine still running smooth on factory spark plugs. Only things changed under the hood...oil, filters, belts so far. Embarrased to admit that the transmission has never been serviced, original fluid still that has never run low. Shifts into 2nd gear a bit hard when starting out cold. Goes away in a mile or less. Afraid now to do anything to that trans. Rear brakes are the same ones she rolled off the assembly line with and recently passed inspection. Guess American vehicles are improving in past 10 years or so?
Nick Ward that's amazing you got a great deal congratulations also navigation in my eyes is not a big deal at all especially since it is older your phone's Google Maps or Waze is a much better navigation platform
+Canadian Rider it does look better with the Navigation, I hardly use it, but i find the layout very attractive with it..& somewhat dated, boring & bland without it.. just my opinion..
Not necessarily, sometimes the price value is much higher when you sell the car in the future unless I am missing something. But true, your phone navigation system is much better.
had a 2009 BMW with 200k, wouldve cost 10 grand to get it right.. got rid of it and went to a pretty good condition 06 is350 with the same mileage with a set of brand new winters and summers on factory alloys for 9k CAD and I couldnt be happier
I Think the screen cost 20 bucks, the labor at a shop might cost you 50-100 though. There are plenty of youtube videos on how to replace it yourself, but if you are not comfortable on dealing with wiring, I suggest you let a professional do it.
My experience with high mileage cars, mainly Japanese is that their drive-trains last forever but many other things start to fall apart, control arms, ball joints, bearings, AC systems, window actuators etc. So its better to stay away from high mileage in general.
If we didn’t have to pay so much fucking money for college, then most of us wouldn’t be getting these used high mileage cars. Either way tho, there are good deals out there. Just gotta vent
200-300k kms for a car shouldn’t be an issue ( Toyota / Lexus ) Here in Australia we have courier vans with engines same or similar to us tacoma ( 2rz , 3rz , 2tr ) and they go 500,000 kms all the time don’t even have to service timing belts as they a hassle free chain system . ( some manufactures run chain timing and still have nightmares with reliability )
Just bought a high miler at the auction, Lexus IS350 with 250k kilos on the clock. So far all's good, but will keep a look out for carbon build up as mentioned in the posts. Still running my 1995 Corolla 160i currently with 558k kilos on the clock and still in original condition and no problems at all!
Yeah sounds like a job at anyone who knows a little bit their way around a wrench can go ahead and do. Especially when it's that cheap in parts once the preventive maintenance comes you should immediately do it with the belt. Thanks for the heads up brother
Always been a fan of Japanese automotive reliability. Have never owned any other brands, because of the horror stories I hear of poor reliability and high running costs.
Carbon issues a little bit overblown. Some of them had recalls the deal with it. It becomes a major problem if you're not doing oil changes frequently and using a good synthetic oil
Still have the first new vehicle I ever bought, 2002 Envoy. Lots of small and not so small (A/C compressor was the largest single repair) here and there, and the motor is a little noisy when cold, but 400,000Kms later, still happy I bought it new. when it comes to maintenance and repairs, I always look at what it will cost to replace it, not the book value.
Just bought a 2006 IS 250 yesterday. 2 owner, very detailed maintenance report and was extremely clean (almost mint). Engine and transmission run like new. No knocking or smoking, no hard shifts. Has 212,000k on it. I have a feeling I can get quite a bit more out of this car. Got a killer deal on it!
Well typically a car that may have issues and owner might try to sell it and pass it on to another owner. So if you see a car being sold repeatedly that could potentially be a signal for that. Other than that if you do your due diligence you should be fine
I have a family member that's owned an IS250 AWD since new, after the engine had the piston ring recall performed, the car has been fed 0w-40 Castrol and MOS2 Liqui Molly additive, the car seems to love it. In Russia and Germany, it's common to run 40 weight oil in the IS250, so I am not uncomfortable with the theory. The MOS2 ideas comes from it's long history of consistant performance, and recent studies which show MOS2 has great characteristics for all kinds of engine surfaces. I am not scientist, but this is my basic understanding based on my experience. If you look into the the rating system for oil range viscosity (0w-20, 5w-30, 0W-40), you'll notice the oil specs change often, often getting thinner within a given viscosity range. In other words, the ranges for resistance to flow which were just mentioned, their spec's vary, and have varying degree's of NOACK resistance and performance and a bunch of other characteristics, I am not familiar with. I can only mention from my experience since new, the car has been fed dealer synthetic 5w-30, it's whole life until the pistons were replaced by the dealer at 76,000 miles. After the pistons were replaced, the car was on a diet of non synthetic dealer for a year, then switched over to 0w-40 at 85,000. The car now has 117,000 miles on 0w-40 Castrol...The car starts better, is more consistent, and now much more quiet in cold starts. The tail pipes are also less sooty with 0w-40, than with the 5w-30 it was fed. I also notice the car seems to run cooler, in the warmer months. The engine compartment fan doesn't come on as much as it use too. I feel comfortable running 0w-40 Castrol, In Germany, Russia and the Middle East, the 250 is spec'd 40 weight oil. Every application is different, but I must admit... I do prefer how the car runs on 0w-40 than 5w-30. Oh! Before I forget, I also make sure to change the coolant ( very simple) every three years to prevent any odd Water pump issues. The water pump was replaced on this one owner car, when the car had about 60,000 miles on it. I was shocked, as I've owned several toyota products and never had water pump fail, before it's intended service interval. Some research turns up details on how; too long of a coolant service interval can cause premature bearing failure in water pumps, low and behold, that's how the water pump failed: The bearing. Could be a coincidence, but the coolant was kept in service for way too long, based on my experience with other cars. In full disclosure, the differential(s) fluids have been replaced every 30-40k, the first change at 15k. Also have performed a partial fluid replacement of the transmission at 60k, with plans to perform another next year. Also, for abnormal problems... The airbag light, turned on. I was able to to locate the problem, to a wire loom in the drivers side foot well. This wire loom, which attached to the air bag connector, it's orange. For me, I simply had to pull some of the wire loom away from the front of the car, to give the loom slack: The airbag light went out. My only dissatisfaction with the car, is the sticky dashboard issue; and how even though a Service History Note was, twice in the car Service History, by a Lexus Service Adviser at roughly 25k and 30k...Lexus last year decided it did not meet the criteria for the stick dash issue. Apart from the above, the car has a great presence and nimbleness. I also run the tires at slighly higher PSI, 40 all around. The car has a high speed tire pressure rating in the owners manual, should you need assurance it's safe. Happy Motoring!
I am glad you and the viewership of the channel find the information useful! It's been a great car,and I believe today, still holds a solid value proposition against cars made in 2018. Should you have any other questions, feel free to reach out. Oh, one more! I am not sure if it's just the Dealer, where the car is serviced but the dealer had insisted I replace the brake pads and rotors, two years ago. At the most recent Dealer recommended brake pad and disk replacement, I decided to remove remove the discs and pads ( factory, replaced at 32k, then replaced at 63k again!) myself; the pads and discs had a little less than the life of the pad life...! A significant amount of life, not in need of replacement...In my experience. Put simply, despite what the dealer might say about needing to replace pads and brakes, it might be wise to get a second opinion. Our experience has been that the discs last at least one full use of brake pads. Most recently, I replaced the pads with Akebono Ceramic's ( same part as the Lexus low dust pad), and Centric brand Disk rotors, with Lexus factory like operation. It's my understanding Akebono makes the low dust pads for the IS250 application, which Lexus sells at the dealer. Cheers!
I just got a 2003 honda accord coupe v6 for 1300 and it got 238k and it runs new...not too long they flushed the transmission so u know wat tha means ..i almost got a new car or better yet i got atleast another 100k to go easy
Would you say the same for a 2014 is250 model it’s the same engine right ? Leaning towards a Lexus over an Acura ILX with that fancy 8 speed dual clutch (Honda transmission problems)
120,000 miles on my ISF and she is still incredibly fast. 270,000 on my SC 400 and its built to be my drift car. 178000 on my GX470 and its still kicking ass off road.
Nothing major. The SC400 lost its alternator and fuel pump bout 2 years back. For a 92 that's not bad. Now that's its my race car its getting bushings, differential work and more so associated issues with aftermarket parts comes up. The ISF has been bullet proof with no problems. Threw in an RCF differential so it has a torsen diff and its chugging along just fine. Next year I plan on bolt on mods and a tune to get it upto 500. The GX had one CV boot go out but that was it. Everything else has been maintenance and once radiator cap replacement. It's due for a timing belt and water pump.
So what do you guys think? Any great stories of your car and how far they have lasted you ?
I know I was only there for about 2hrs getting a set of tires.
I had a 07 IS250 6MT, it had about 250km on it when I got rid of it, only thing I had to replace while owning it was the ac compressor. Now I have the 06 IS350 and I love it, its a baby though, only has 105km, so much more power then the 250 as well.
That is good news so all you wanted was more power in the upgrade to the IS350? Any big difference in fuel economy?
Yea, the 0-60 in under 5 was worth the upgrade lol, just wish the 350 came in manual. No not much difference in fuel economy at all, maybe 1L/100km difference.
Yeah man IS350 I have is the same as yours 2006. Lots of power decent fuel economy luxury Comfort and features I love this thing
My friend has an accord with 270,000 miles on it. He’s trying to break it down to get a new car but it won’t budge. He’s started using it to tow with a small trailer and it does not hesitate
LMFAO your serious ? Man what tanks I love stories like this wow
Canadian Rider completely serious haha. Honda and Toyota engines last a long time
And that is why I made this video so people can be aware of this fact:-)
That’s Honda for you, boss.
Mahfuz A honda isn’t reliable
I brought a 08 Lexus IS250 last year in mint condition with zero problems..but I did get the one with the Nav & for some reason it shows me driving in oceans & uninhabitable places 😕
Yeah the detriment of an old navigation system but that's not really a big deal glad you had zero problems with your machine :-)
you can try to find updated maps, they should still update them after 10 years. ask your dealer for availability. it might not be cheap though, and diy can be difficult since you need to aquire the update medium (usually a dvd).
Is it a Japanese import?
Natures Jay okurrt Aquaman
Lol there's ways to fix it. Ive seen people have that issue
Service record is very important for high KM. That's all you need to see when buying a used car. Car look great
Thanks brother sad I didn't see you at the Toronto motorcycle show this year
If I’m buying a is could I ask the second party owner for the service record or will they not have it ?
Awesome, thank you.. best engine oil for high mileage Lexus?
I would stick with a high quality synthetic oil at the recommended grade. Pennzoil platinum or Mobil 1
Thinking about doing the same exact thing right now. Any update so far on Lexus?
"Low mileage, city driven..." lolol I would choose a highway driven one every single time
Please excuse my naivness but why would you say so ?
@@orvillethomas4464 stop and go driving and most likely the car was beaten.
Yea hwy miles much easier on a car...so dont be afraid of higher miles. Now my wife has an 08 with 213k miles 90% city miles but runs still very good.
‘09 IS250 w/ 160,000km 😊 running smooth like butter
how many KM have you put on it? Had any valve cleaning done due to the carbon build up?
Canadian Rider I put 70,000km since 2014. I brought the car in for carbon build up recall and I never had issues to begin with! And just done regular maintenance, recently changed brakes and rotors myself
Wow that's great to hear. Really wanted to make sure I got her a reliable car that is also very luxurious for the price. The value that this Lexus IS brings is incredible
I have 06 350 With 186K was wondering what things I could do to keep it around for a long time I’ve had it since maybe 165 maybe since last July just made a year now find your videos and falling in love with the car much more !
i have a 2010 is 250 280k miles 450 k km did a full maintainance and running better than any car i ever had
I’m a learner driver and have an Acura then found a cheap 2001 Lexus IS 300 and it’s got 406,000 km on it and runs fairly well
I bought a 2006 Nissan Titan LE 5.6 with 273,000 km have had it for 6 years, not a single problem. Truck has been to 22 States in the past couple years, I have almost 400,000 km on it now. Bought it from original owner, he was retired and only used it to travel with his wife and pull their trailer. He sold it because they were too old to travel anymore. Awesome truck, still runs like a top!
MrDirtdart You Never see those things lol. Good to hear!
I've had my '08 IS250 for 6 years now and she's got 118k now. Seeing yours with 250k on it makes me love my car even more. Its a beast in bad weather/snow and my goal is to hit 300k+ on it later in life! Extremely comfortable as well no complaints
Did u ever hit the goal?
That’s only a little over 155K miles, which isn’t even that bad at all lol. I wouldn’t consider that high mileage for the year model
Jacob Warbis I’ve seen these with 250k plus miles and they still look good. The IS is an extremely reliable car.
Exactly lmao
@@BeesonsCars Yup my Lexus IS350 2007 has 242k miles and it was the transmission that went out not the engine. And the transmission went out because I am an idiot and never flushed my fluid
Damn that’s good. I’m looking to buy a 2015 is250 f sport with 185k miles. $14,000.
@@marzzgli1278 I would make sure you get service records on that. That seems pretty high for 185k miles in my opinion. But I have not paid much attention to prices due to inflation maybe that is average?
I have is250 with 296k
Bulletproof as bulletproof can get
🤔No problems with the carbon buildup issue
Yess mush on
2007 ES350 white with over 220,000M.
Still running very quite on original engine and transmission.
Very happy with my baby.
I have an 08 lexus es 350 with 140,200 miles on it. Glad to know I have a long way to go!
I have a 2009 mazda 6 , manual transmission with 215 k miles ..running strong 💪🏽
We have a 2000 Toyota Avalon XL. It has 290,000miles! The best car we’ve ever owned
Thanks for sharing your feedback and sharing your experience with these amazing cars
168k miles on my ‘07 IS 350, runs like new. Only oil changes and tires over last 2 years...what a car.
Same exact experience brother what a reliable beautiful car
Love my 350 i went all fsport accessories too
Yep water pump is something you definitely need to do some preventive maintenance on when the time comes
Previous owner of mine had it replaced at about 100k. Spark plugs are something need to probably consider.
mine done 200k
Agree 100% with you. Beautiful cars and reliable. In South Africa we have a lot of high mileage cars on our roads. I'm lucky to have bought a new VW, but planning to keep it for about 10 years. (5 down and 5 to go)
Yea lots of countries actually take big exports of used cars with high mileage, and the demand is there... because these cars are tanks
VW... ouch gl with that mate.
VW dont last even 5 years
the DSG and electronics will die by then
So my Lexus IS Has 128k miles or 193k kilometers.
And thank you for sharing this to show people on the channel. very informative having these real life stories come out!!
you make a good point. however, where do you base your statement on "cars are only built to last 5 years." care to share an article from a reliable source? because that statement sure is bold to say, not to say the least that it is not true.
Bought my car back in 07 brand new. Here is the list of issues I had over time:
-Carbon buildup (common issue on the IS250) Major Recall
-Failed nav screen after 6 years of ownership Fixed under warranty
-Sticky/melting Dash (common on both IS250/350) in high heat/humid areas. Fixed under warranty/recall
-Cracked windeshield drip moldings.
I only put 68,000 miles/110,000km on my car.
aspect D It's all annoying cosmetic stuff. Not too bad though!
All I see is genuine Lexus
Congratulations. It's a wonderful car you won't be disappointed
Hmmm pretty sure the 3rd gen gs had oil burning issues and some other problems
I have a used 11 350GS and it is perfection. They have dual injectors to clean the valves.
The 250 and 300 have some issues with the direct injection putting deposits on the valves because the valves never get cleaned like in the 350. Eventually you get a CEL and you have to do some serious work. They also have an oil consumption problem where the pistons get their drainback valves clogged. That may be a maintenance issue. Many were recalled and remedied. I don't think those engines are good choices. The first problem is pretty certain to happen.
alb12345672 the pre 2013 gs have the same problem, they fixed it thats why there wasnt a 2012 gs. The gs and is have the same powertrain
Spot on awesome video I'm the right now driving 5 and 1/2 hours to pick up a Lexus IS250 fully loaded in awesome condition 👍😎
Good luck man she will treat you well
I bought my Lexus is350 with 193,000km and it had had the fuel pump, battery, abs sensor and small electrical problems.
If I were buying an older IS like this, the Navigation is a must for me, if it has the nav, it has the rear view camera, also display audio is nice
Plus the Nav models usually have Mark Levinson audio.
I’m a Lexus guy myself,I do like the look of other cars but I can never seem to turn my back on buying a Lexus.
She's the wife that will treat you right
In America that translates to 155000 Miles which is nothing for a Lexus or Toyota you can easily put 300,000 miles on these cars which would I guess equivalate to 500000 km so no worries guys
313K+ on my '07 IS 250 RWD
@@GHOSTDOG772 nice! 76k miles on mine and I worry about the carbon build up but there's no signs of it. Runs perfect no issues since I've owned it.
Great to hear honestly this car is so reliable. Toyota / Lexus did such a phenomenal job with this generation. This is something we Germans could learn from
Here is the Caviat.
2006 IS250
The Alternator will go out atleast once.
The Transmission is Garbage for this year
Could be a Solenoid or something else. The Transmission Wire might fail ( ECU to Transmission, not internal wires)
Usually happens 100K to 130 Miles. It could be a domino effect of wire not working then solenoids not working then trans gets burnt out.
The passenger rear brake caliper tends to seize at some point.
Navigation Touch Screen will go bad needs fixing.
Rear tire inner wear
LCA bushings may need replacing.
awesome vid.
Toyota would be proud of you! Plus your wallet and your mind are also proud :)
Mine gets terrible gas mileage for the size of the car 19.5mpg
160k miles it just got louder & started shifting hard i keep everything up on it & use royal purple oil every 4k miles which they usually got 5-6k miles before a change & always premium gas so i have no clue why it just started running like shit
Live From The Grave transmission fluid change?
A lot of people say Carbon Buildup is the #1 performance issue on these cars.
got 70 000 miles lexus IS250, honestly feels like 10 000 miles car , super happy with it , however the fuel consumption is a bit not great.
Valentino Kolev lol true
Yes it’s a guzzler
Great car.

Two weeks ago I just purchased a 2009 Lexus IS 250 6MT with 105,000km for $11,500. Super stoked with this car. It feels so solid and has a nice exhaust note. Definitely would recommend this car to anyone.
Congratulations man! Welcome to the channel.
The main issue is dangerous or inconvenient breakdowns. I don't want a car to explode at 100 mph or to breakdown when I'm on a deserted road at night in the wilderness, 100 miles from civilisation. Is it possible for a Lexus to suddenly have a drastic breakdown?
Had mine 5 months at 109,000 miles only problem was oil change and back breaks had to be changed
You can't appreciate a Lexus until you own one. Hands down the best overall cars on the road. Those that knock them have likely not even sat in one. They may not be the best in every category, but overall, there's nothing better.
Agreed

How long do you think they would last if it had a RR super charger?
Hey! Britney hear and I want to say this car is sexy. I need one. Obviously I can afford a brand new one, but I like these mid 2000's cars. Reminds me of when my career was still relevant. No one listens to my music anymore. Sad!
I listen to your music Britney. I love your song “Sometimes” always a banger!
I drive a 2010.. with 50K miles,.. aside from it's small car busy like ride, around town.. it is a compliant whisper quiet free way cruiser.. I'll keeping it forever...🙌🙌🙌
313K+ 2007 IS 250 RWD. Wear and tear here and there but engine, transmission and differential is sound.
More great stories from owners :)
@CowboyLakersFan 13 Sweeeet!
I have a 1998 Toyota Camry with 367,575 miles and it still runs like new.
Thanks for sharing your experience
I have a 2011 is250 and the only maintenance I am doing is removing little surface rust (Welcome to Canada) and little scratches which can be buff. Other than that it is awesome! Not as fast and performance is a bit below to the german cars but it will last longer.
Even the new is250, I have the IS250 F sport RWD sedan. I can tell you 3 year ownership having no problems so far , accept replacing brake pads rotors, engine maintenance etc otherwise nothing has failed me in that car, that’s why I love it! I have an exhaust on it and custom work to it :)
They are built like tanks. Lexus and Toyota quality at its finest
Canadian Rider Agreed!
ReyFitment how much did the pads and rotors cost you on the ISf?
I recently bought a 2006 Lexus I have only one problem I bought it from a cheap dealer but it won't start ?? Should I buy a Lexus battery or off market ?!?!
Try an aftermarket battery first if it is much cheaper
Bro I am.so thankful.to come across this video been looking for second car currently in a 94 explorer had since 2010 I been looking at the lexus i found a 2007 awd is250 180k one owner garage kept full loaded beautiful car service by lexus like a baby I seen your video about milage I am.super stoked I want your opioun and advice I told him.to hold.the car for me Saturday tell me what you think thankyou
Glad my video helps you out Anthony how much is the car? I say you 100% do it if it's in good condition and the deal is right
Commented on one of your videos before, but I want to ask: For my automatic transmission , if I can feel a very very soft nudge when the gears change in lower gears, is that normal? Sorry for the paragraph, but since this is a new car to me I have lots of questions.
no worries based on what you are describing that is completely normal and what I experience on my Lexus IS 350 and Lexus IS 250. You are okay :)
Especially a Lexus LS. Oooo they last forever
vadim nesen yyyyyeeeesssssss
Just got an 07! But why would someone buying a used car not want the navigation system?
mine has 84k miles all maintenance records and the carbon build up rebuild for 8000 bucks!
Often the nav is out of date and it’s expensive to update when you can just use your smart phone.
Not necessarily, sometimes the price value is much higher when you sell the car in the future unless I am missing something. But true, your phone navigation system is much better.
I'm American what's kilometers to gallons this guy is confusing me
EyeWitnessChina his name is “Canadian Rider” but just keep being a ignorant american you’re doing a great job little guy
@EyeWitnessChina while the rest of the world uses metric system... why do I even bother...
had a 2009 BMW with 200k, wouldve cost 10 grand to get it right.. got rid of it and went to a pretty good condition 06 is350 with the same mileage with a set of brand new winters and summers on factory alloys for 9k CAD and I couldnt be happier
08 is250 180,000 Miles..runs smooth no problems..tho tbh, makes a weird noise when you start it..if it’s been sitting for an hr after driven
We got a Lexus ls250, 2006, and the navigation touch screen stopped working at 81000 mi :(
I Think the screen cost 20 bucks, the labor at a shop might cost you 50-100 though. There are plenty of youtube videos on how to replace it yourself, but if you are not comfortable on dealing with wiring, I suggest you let a professional do it.
I just got an IS 250 2007 for 3k has 219k miles no lights execpt air bag idk how i did tbh lol
I found a 2013 Lexus es350 with 155k miles for $10,555, I'm just concerned about the maintenance costs, is it worth buying?
That milage is nothing it's worth it !
Got 275'000km with only one repair (front left brake caliper) but set me back 2000$ at the lexus workshop.
200-300k kms for a car shouldn’t be an issue ( Toyota / Lexus )
Here in Australia we have courier vans with engines same or similar to us tacoma ( 2rz , 3rz , 2tr ) and they go 500,000 kms all the time don’t even have to service timing belts as they a hassle free chain system . ( some manufactures run chain timing and still have nightmares with reliability )
Agreed Martin! Thanks for your insight into the timing belts
Awesome info video!!
IS350 doesn't have the carbon build up issues, only the IS250.
Good call that is the one maintenance item for this car that you need to be careful for and do the preventive maintenance on
Yeah sounds like a job at anyone who knows a little bit their way around a wrench can go ahead and do. Especially when it's that cheap in parts once the preventive maintenance comes you should immediately do it with the belt. Thanks for the heads up brother
You are one sick bastard for holding onto that Corolla. I'm jealous.
Always been a fan of Japanese automotive reliability. Have never owned any other brands, because of the horror stories I hear of poor reliability and high running costs.
I am looking at a 2014 IS 250 but am reading comments about the carbon buildup issue. Is that an issue on particular years? Are 2014's ok?
Carbon issues a little bit overblown. Some of them had recalls the deal with it. It becomes a major problem if you're not doing oil changes frequently and using a good synthetic oil
They fixed the Carbon buildup issue since 2010+. Your good.
C A You mean including the 2010 or after?
Mind if you share the price ?! Congratulations on a wicked car man and welcome to the channel
Hey how’s it going?
Nice I just got my girlfriend a 2012 IS 250 68,000 miles mint condition from a toyota dealer a lease turn in great deal great car!
Question: why does multiple owners / only having 1 owner matter? What does it usually suggest about the car? Thanks.
Well typically a car that may have issues and owner might try to sell it and pass it on to another owner. So if you see a car being sold repeatedly that could potentially be a signal for that. Other than that if you do your due diligence you should be fine
I'm looking at a 2010 Lexus IS250 with 279000 the dealership wants 4K. Yay or not?
Not bad. Sounds like a good deal to me!
I have 220,000K with Lacquer Thinner and Oil Catch Can been keeping my car free of carbon bill up.
Special K what do you do
could you explain that please ?
I have a family member that's owned an IS250 AWD since new,
after the engine had the piston ring recall performed, the car has
been fed 0w-40 Castrol and MOS2 Liqui Molly additive, the car seems to love it.
What an amazing right up thank you so much for sharing this with everyone. Pinning to the top!
Go with the Lexus
2011 lexus is 250 192000 kms for 8000 usd 6k usd!
Is this a good baragin? Let me know
I’d say that’s a good price for sure! Obviously depending if it’s in great condition and has all that’s for maintenance history done
120,000 miles on my ISF and she is still incredibly fast. 270,000 on my SC 400 and its built to be my drift car. 178000 on my GX470 and its still kicking ass off road.
That's incredible lmfao. Other major issues with any of them ?! Unbelievable reliability
