Having of got bored and burnt out with the current console generation I've gone back to my older systems, so many great older game's to replay and discover.
I was just like you when it came to this game. After seeing this review I think I'm finally going to give this game a chance. It's perfect timing too since this was re-released on the ps4. Thanks for the video.
@@atoningful Vro I know that but why is this guy commenting rip x on a fucking game review. OF course, I knew what the song was, that's how I ended up on this page, it's just the fact that these guys write rip X on every single video that has somewhat to do with that, It's just sad how this guy is trying to make a game review but instead of looking at his comment section and the nice ratings and stuff, all he's going to see is "RIP X"
Here's what i like and hate about this game. What i Like about it: Colorful cast of characters and enemies, Beautiful Art Style, powerSimple but entertaining easy to understand turn based combat, Light-hearted Story. Catchy Music. What i don't like about it: little details like the character's equipment looking the same even if you purchase new ones, Party members that come in way too late to the story, Poorly designed repetitive Dungeons including the infamous "Deep Grave Pit". Overall though i like it alot. Stan's my absolute favorite character. He reminds me of the titular character in Invader Zim.
When I was a kid I bought this game at a flea market. Well my dad did but I digress. It quickly became one of my all time favorite games and now I have it on my PS4.
I'm in the same position. This was a game I'd always see at the rental place and I wanted to try it but never did and on and off for years after it'd be at the back of my mind and I'd often look for it at places that sell used games. I finally decided to look it up on eBay but figured I should look up a review to make sure it was worth getting and not be a let down after wanting it for so long.
Phaux Redtail I had a sort of same experience with this game. I was about 8 years old and at the swapmeet with my family. We never buy games there, but for some reason we got one that day (I'm assuming it was really cheap haha). Mind you, my parents knew nothing about video games, and til this day, I find it odd that I, an 8 year old child who knew nothing about the concept of RPGs or Okage in general, decided to pick this game out of the bunch. I had it on PS2, which I then sold a few years later, when I was about 10 or 12. After that day, I kept thinking about the game; the disc art would pop up in my head at random times, especially the image of Stan. A couple years later (2017) I decided to try and look up the name of the game. To my surprise I found it, and by the biggest coincidence, the game had just re-released on the playstation store for PS4 a few months prior to me searching it up. I've been playing it lately, its definitely a game I will never forget.
I remember this game so fondly because of its story. The thing that I praise the most is how it subverts the silent protagonist cliche because that's one of the video game cliches that I hate the most
When I was a kid my parents were very strict about the games I was allowed to play and typically bought me new video games on their own when coming home from work or if they went to the store which meant I got a lot of shovelware and other garbage games. I remember one day my dad came home with this game and gave it to me because he thought the cover looked cool. I never got far in the game as I was very young and couldn't figure most of the game out but I remember replaying the first hour or so over and over because I just loved the vibe of the game so much, even to this day I struggle to think of a game that has the same vibe and ambience as Okage. It's so weird and quirky and cool. I should go back and replay it now that I'm older and can actually figure complex games out.
You should do Spongebob: Battle for Bikini Bottom. I know that just having the name or theme 'spongebob' throws a lot of people off, but I'm a huge fan of your channel and think you would love it. Personally, I think the game is one of the best (if not the best) platformers of all time. Level design and mechanics of the game are beautiful! Anyways keep up the quality content!
It's spliced game footage set to review commentary. What exactly is so exceptional about that? There are thousands of reviews like this on youtube. Pretty much EXACTLY like this. Entertaining? Was there a joke here? It was quite bland and straightforward. Informative maybe, but not entertaining. Most other PS2 game reviews don't loop one fucking irritating-as-fuck simplistic game track in the background for their entire seven-minute duration. That's not "best" anything.
You know when you type in Okage Shadow King you get a rap song. It is kind of hard to find anything about this game that rap song seems be more popular than the game itself. It's a short game with an awful camera that does get stuck on things and the menu is hard to look at. I would strongly recommend this game for the art style and humor
More and more RPGs Cause you to lose if the main character is knocked out. I honestly hate that As a mechanic, but can look past it most the time . It's just annoying thinking that no one else in your party is capable of using a recovery item.
The combat is terrible and very grueling to get through, (it doesn’t help that the fight music isn’t too diverse) but the story is completely worth it.
yessss I didn't know what this game is buy I think this is the game that I played when I was young we had a disk with demo games a few games some mech thing this klonoa I think amd some other games I wish I had the cd still
Man I was not a fan. The battles felt long and drawn out, and while the writing is there to have a good laugh, it’s like, hard to hold my interest for long. My brother and I got pretty far before dropping it.
Some skills use HP as a resource and you get game over if just the main character dies. Use to that with Persona games so I'm golden ;p Can get it off PS4 PSN $10 seems worth it tho.
i'm so baffled that this never received a sequel. such a gorgeous, quirky, high-concept RPG.
This was one of my first rpg games ever. I still have my original ps2 copy.
I have my original copy too, but I also bought it for ps4 in PSN

It does have something to it, that makes me curious too. Great song btw.

the hp skills don't cost much and honestly overdrive is my favorite skill despite the big cost.
I might try this game. The music reminds me of nier automata, a game I consider to be in my top 3
