“Stationary freak”... oh kindred spirit, yes! In this era of touch-screen everything, it is so heartwarming to see that notebooks and favourite pens bring as much joy to others as they do to me. As for bags... my school bag is now 33 years old. I bought this bag when I left uni and started my teaching career... long before I had ever heard of the term “zero waste” or “sustainability”. I have repaired this bag quite a few times... I am still teaching and the bag is still doing its thing... and now the challenge is on to get this bag through to my retirement. We started together, we are going to finish together!! (Stay tuned for the final chapter... on the bag of course, not me). Anyways, my next bag may possibly be a Grunbag... if so, I am hopeful that it would last me for the next three or four decades of my life. Great video Immy... super relatable!! Love Ralph, love your Granny’s cardigan, love your toque... and love you too. Thanks for being so real!!
I just absolutely love your comment, thank you for it! Have a beautiful day 🙏🌿☀
Ah Mary! Thank you so much for your lovely comment and sharing your wonderful journey with your bag with us! I can only imagine the amount of memories you have taking that bag with you - I’m hoping to have the same with my Grunbags over the next few decades xx
@@fluffyfluff3571 Hey there, thanks so much for your thoughts. I am having a great day, and your comment is part of it.
@@SustainablyVegan Hey Immy, yup... lots of memories. Who ever knew that a bag could become such a key part of one’s career and one’s life? That bag has packed more lunches, more papers, and more everyday stuff than I can ever remember... and it has outlasted three motor mugs (KeepCups) and two water bottles. I honestly don’t know what I will do with this school bag when I retire... but I have time to think about it.
Mary Charlebois I’m sure once you retire you will be able to use the bag as a your normal day to day bag or you could use it as an over night bag if you go away somewhere
My coffee mug is 1L... a keep cup could *_never_*
Hahaha wow that is a lot of coffee
Sustainably Vegan I may or may not have a problem 😂
Where did you get the mug! I need!
ugly american ulzzang amazon! Technically it’s like 34oz or something just under 1L. I got it a few years ago on amazon so I don’t have the exact details!
My coffee tumbler is a 20oz 3 year old hydroflask. I love the “look” of the keepcup but that’s not enough coffee for me. 😂
This feels very serendipitous! I LOVE what's in my bag videos and as I have cleaned out and washed my work bag today, I have since been watching what's in my bag videos while I work. So when this popped up in my subscriptions - I gasped!
As always, a pleasure to watch :) x
ah I'm so glad you enjoyed it - I also love watching these kind of videos xx
Your voice is so calming😍
When it comes to pens... a fountain pen with a cartridge adaptor is brilliant in terms of refillability, because you can buy the big glass refill jar of ink, plus they last for years and years
I have a similar situation with lots of books + a laptop with it's accessories! I have an Everlane backpack I've been using for the past 3 years that I love, it has two pockets on the side that holds my water bottle + sometimes leaky coffee travel mug so they stay upright when I'm on my bike. I also carry blue light reading glasses since I'm on my laptop so much + it helps ease the strain on my eyes. Thank you for this video! Inspiring to see such an everyday space looked at with more importance
Greetings from rural Australia. Would you like a keep cup surprise story from Australia? I filled my keep cup, at home, before an 11 hour car trip. We stopped in a very tiny town to refill the car. I asked if they could refill my keep cup with a fresh coffee and were extremely obliging and even added that they often did it for customers.
Read the "Power of Habit" is really good
Thanks for the recommendation! x
Not that cold😂
I come from a warm country so we start shaking at 20 c° because we're not used to cold 😂
Haha, 20 is like the perfect temprature!
Mrs Vegan,
Could you make a blog on sustainable minimalist dog owner?
Pretty sure it's her sister's dog who doesn't follow the same low impact vegan lifestyle as she does.
Very cute dog though
Thanks for this, Immy! It was fun while also making me think. Because I’m a writer by profession, people always give me pens and pencils and pads for Christmas and birthday. I love them (and most stationery!) but they aren’t sustainable versions. I think I’ll have to ask specifically for sustainable types in future. Thanks for that!
I always carry napkins and wet wipes with me, as well as a plastic spoon and fork (in case I might eat outside). I also have a reusable bag in it and water bottle, as well as a purse and anything else I might need for that day, but I try to keep it simple.
I keep my pencil case ( which holds all my art supplies, all refillable or reusable items), sketchbook/ journal which I made using upcycled materials, my planner, my wallet and my phone. On the outside I clip a set of wooden utensils, a reusable grocery bag and 2 hydro flasks ( one for hot drinks and one water bottle). I have 2 bags that I switch between, a black one which I bought new (but did a lot of shoppimg around to find one that met my exact needs) and a brown one which was a second hand purchase and gifted to me and also fits my specifications. It took a while to figure out exactly what worked for me ( and I will admit I made some unnesesary purchases to get there) but now that I'm here I intend not to buy more or replace any of these items until they are completely used up. I've been using this current setup for about a year and a half now and I love it.
I'm reading Rachel Maddow's Blowout. It's a fascinating book on how nations that have a lot of oil or natural gas often end up with corrupt governments and the influence of America's oil/gas industry. It provides so much context for geopolitics. My purse is stuffed with heavy, boring junk, but I do keep other low waste tools in my car, like shopping bags, jars, and other containers. Great video, TFS. Oh and if you're in America, also consider Rareform. They make bags out of billboard waste. Less transportation fuel.
I wonder what she says about Norway
A foldable umbrella and now that it gets dark so early I have a compact flashlight that I can hang on the outside that has a bright led white light but also a flashing red light, for when I am walking.
What do you use for shampoo and conditioner? Your hair looks so soft and I have been struggling with my daughters hair. She has curly hair and the bars I have found have made her hair look like we don't wash and brush it.
I bought a pack of pens.I take notes with every day of the week at this rate the pens will be done in 6 years it was one pack of pens. It was wrapped in plastic it was one mistake 😂 I will be finish the pens when I am done with uni. I love the pens though. They write so well I don’t beat myself up over it.
The green laptop case is a super cool colour
That is a great bike bag! I often go for neutral colors as well, but if that’s what you like, it’s not boring! :)
I carry two bags usually. That’s if I have my daughter with me (which I usually do) he nappy bag goes on the pushchair and has all her cloth nappies, wipes, changing mat, two sets of clean cloths, a beaker of water, some snack in tubs, a muslin cloth I can wet to clean her up with, dummies for when she’s tired (she only has one for a nap now). And my bag goes on my back and has a large water bottle, hand sanitizer, chop sticks (my mum gave me that I’ve not used yet), steel straw, coffee cup, purse, keys, phone, lip balm in a tin, plasters, pain medication (I tend to get headaches or back ache or ankles just go randomly), reusable shopping bags and produce bags. Mine is just a basic backpack I’ve had for years, my daughters is a back pack nappy bag from amazon we got before she was born xxx
I got fed up of baby changing bags that are too small or are messenger style and I have 3 kids who are too young to carry their own stuff and I also babywear so I got a 30L backpack with side pockets for their water bottles and I can fit a laptop and my stuff in as well as packed lunch for 5 people, nappies change of clothes etc.
I like the idea of grunbags but they lack pockets which are a must for us parents.
Ps Barbara erskine is all a big fave author of mine I adore house of echoes, whispers in the sand and midnight is a lonely place. I collect her books in hard back and paper back but also have some on kindle as well as audio on my kindle as it’s cheaper than actual audio cds.
Some books I can never read in a week. But I love books so couldn’t b minimalistic with my books. I do have a kindle fire and do read more on there, but I also read books. I always carry my kindle in my small bag. My bulkiest item is my pack a Mack as I have gotten caught out in the rain before so I always keep it in there. I love Agatha Christie books and Jane Austen and Jane Austen fan fiction. But everyone is different with what books they read xx
Thank you for reminding me to make working as easy as possible! I feel like by removing the obstacles you will end up doing it more with more motivation. Will take this with me through my uni week :)
Such a lovely and inspiring video
I really love watching your videos while i have breakfast, they are so relaxing 💜
Love your back pack! I'm trying to reduce our plastic and go plastic free, eventually zero waste, hopefully. Not easy, but very necessary! And my beloved husband is on board. Food is the worst. Why, oh why does Vegan sunflower spread need to be packed in plastic?
You're the third "sustainable" channel that I have subbed to thus far. You seem really nice. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your channel!
Will you start a sustainable/eco themed bookclub online?
Ohhh that's such a good idea I'll have a think about the best way to go about that xx
@@SustainablyVegan I recommend starting one through GoodReads (goodreads.com). I use this website to read reviews, participate in book club groups, and to document all the books I read each year
Sustainably Vegan Instagram?
Yep thumbs up as soon as I saw the puppy 🐶. So freakin cute in the little sweater!!
Haha I'm American and she def called me out on the size of the coffee cup.
Any recommendations on an eco-friendly day planner?
My KeepCup is the same size as yours and it’s way too small for me haha (coming from a Finnish coffee addict). Also, you really inspire me with your book challenge. I’m thinking of trying it next year, or at least reading two books in a month. Okay, now i’m off to read!
Love this video! Fun to see what you carry around and how you organize. Those bags look very nice for waterproof purposes. Awesome! 👌
Love it! You’re such an inspiration! I actually started make videos about sustainability too, so hopefully I’ll inspire my friends as you inspired me.☺️
ah amazing xx
I never carry my bag, and I probably should especially since I want to get more into sustainability and zero waste. Having my stuff on hand would make things much easier.
Hi Immy, I have started reading this book too. Btw your hair are beautiful!
Ah thank you! Ah amazing what do you think about it?
Do you use foundation? If you do, what brand is it?
I just love your What's in My Bag videos. This one has inspired me to be a bit more practical / sensible with what I carry around. Also in terms of reading recommendations, my all time favourite books are Ishmael and My Ishmael by Daniel Quinn, and I recently reread The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists by Robert Tressell which I really enjoyed again although it's frustrating and sad too. All books challenge capitalism and the status quo and mess with your head a bit, in a good way.
Love how fun this video was and I always like knowing what you carry in your bag :D. I am a very avid reader, too! Though, I don't read one book a week. (I have to give equal time to knitting and watercolor painting - lol). My non fiction book recommendations are: The Tapping Solution by Nick Ortner, Straight Up Food by Cathy Fisher, Ikigai by Hector Garcia P., How to Relax (Mini book) by Thich Nhat Hahn, Zen: The Art of Simple Living by Masuno and The Inspired Houseplant by Jen Stearns. My fiction book recommendations are: What the Wind Knows by Amy Harmon, Bel Lamington & Fletcher's End by D.E. Stevenson, The Darling Buds of May Series by H.E. Bates (super fun and quick reads), The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax by Dorothy Gilman (fun and quick, too!), The Clockmaker's Daughter by Kate Morton (or anything by her), Elizabeth & her German Garden and Enchanted April by Elizabeth von Arnim, or anything by Elizabeth Goudge (her writing is so beautiful)...though my favorites are The Little White Horse (a children's book) and the Dean's Watch. I could go on and on forever - lol :D
ah amazing, thank you so much for the recommendations xx
@@SustainablyVegan Just wanted you to know how much I appreciate you and your videos, too. I look forward to every one! *hugs from NH* :D
Omg i feel the bag is so heavy!!
Immy could you please list the brands of sustainable pens you use with links ???
Where do you get your refillable pens from? I have been looking for one but I can only find black ink and I would like to also have green or red? Do you know of anywhere I can get one?
Ten months late on this but...
I don't know about many totally plastic free options, but JetPens carries tons of pens that have refillable plastic "cartridges" (just the pen nib and ink piece.) They might have some plastic free ones, but I haven't come across one in my casual browsing yet.
Otherwise, fountain pens are refillable! For the least amount of waste you can get a converter rather than cartridges and reload it with the ink of your choice.
Love stationary! Can you give us the name of the zero waste store in Brussels? Always enjoy your videos, xo
I wanted to ask a question where is the green pen from that you talked about at 4:33, I'm down to my last disposable pen (have been taking along time to use them up since they were left over from when I was still at university) I wanted to buy a new one that is better for the environment. I have a refillable fountain pen but for drawing the ink flow isn't as controlled as a biro etc!
Loved the video!
It looks like, to me, the Caran d'Ache Nespresso ballpoint pen. The ink is smooth, though the cartridges are a bit pricey, at least in the USA.
@@taniayh-s48 ok, I'll have a look around! I live in the Netherlands so maybe it's not too expensive... I hope! Thank you for the help!
@@harriet2181 good luck!
I just wish they did one with pockets I have 3 kids and need pockets and a well organised bag.
Oh no what happened to your black bag? And how much are those laptop cases? They look amazingly well made 😍
Please can you tell me the make of your water bottle?
Do you have Goodreads (not sure if that's even a thing in the UK), I would love to see what you're reading! As a huge bookworm myself I've always found it fascinating to see what others enjoy reading, and I love getting recommendations from other people!
I did but then I locked myself out somehow! I might get another one!
Sometimes characters need to be hard to like bc that's how life is. Some ppl are trash but they might lead interesting lives 🤷🏻♀️
Could you please tell me where exactly in Brussels did you buy the pens? Thanks in advance!
Hey quick question: I have a grünbag backpack and I love it but unfortunately the black straps have started staining on my light coat. Do you have any experience with that or tips?
Thanks!
Also, love your videos xoxo
Hey! I would email them and let them know and they should change the straps for you - they’ve started using something different as they got a couple other people saying the same thing! I’ve never had a problem with mine but I’m sure they will sort it for you xx
Love your videos ❤️
Hi, thank you for this video. Could you please share the brand name of the pen that uses metal inside and the wooden pencil from sweden?
Interested to know your thoughts on the ending of I Am Pilgrim (I was so disappointed, practically had "America fuck yeah" in my head reading it...)
where is the snack box from?
Cute maltese doggy
What shop was that??
Love listening to your voice...
10 degrees Celsius isnt cold? OMG... 20 degrees is cold for me :( I (south hemisphere here)
Is the little pocket at the front of the laptop bag big enough to keep a laptop charger in?
Hello. Have you read the Tattoo artist or its sequel: Cilka’s Story?
IKIGAI ....did you read it?
I enjoyed the book very much.
no not yet! if you liked it I'll add it to my recommendations xx
@@SustainablyVegan yes yes yes ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Immy, can you link to your pens & pencils?
I thought you lost that coffee cup?
I love your videos ❤
Thank you for being such an inspiration! I really enjoy wathcing your videos! /Love from Sweden
By the way, do you have any suggestions on double-walled water bottles?
@@ellinorenzell7270 Yes! I love the Jerry Bottle double walled bottles xx
@@SustainablyVegan Thanks! I'm gonna check those out ✨
Good that you like safety. But
do you use a cycling helmet?
oh yes absolutely - I would never cycle in London without it!
@@SustainablyVegan Enjoy your
cycling. Love from Switzerland.
Does anyone know any alternative for that case? I'd love to get one but this one is too expensive for me.
Second hand?
I live in Poland and I’ve never seen laptop case in second hands etc. +I was thinking about case from the same material
hi immy, do you have a partnership discount code for grunbag? i'm coveting their limited edition silver crossbody :) thanks, love the channel
Was that your cute dog walking
around in the background?
Please add substitles to every video.

I like your pencil where can buy it? Tq
Ah I got it in a Zero Waste shop in Brussels! The person to ask is Nour Livia (on instagram) she took me there xx
@@SustainablyVegan thanks
Where do you work? :) Just curious haha
Woo first
I've recently started using an e-reader (after years and years of resistance). I think I'll keep the books I have and I'll get a physical copy if it's really important to me but I'm very happy about how light it is. Also, I actually find it more comfortable than holding the pages apart. I've read Pachinko after your recommendation and loved it so much that I looked for other books by Min Jin Lee. So I'm currently reading Free Food for Millionaires and it's definitely worth it! :)
Oh i'm so glad you liked Pachinko! I loved it so much. Ohhh I haven't read that, I'll make sure to check it out xx
