Thank you for giving the option to people to enter the competition who don't have Instagram - I didn't enter as I have a backpack that works well for me now and didn't know anyone that needs it as a gift.
Awesome tips! As a college student, I have also found that it's super helpful to carry around a small washcloth to dry my hands off with when out and about (helping to avoid single-use paper towels in bathrooms or when your hands get wet). Cloth napkins are a definite must!
LOVE this tip, I'll definitely start doing this! But I also have the same question as Charon about whether you have a method of storage for that or if you just have a designated compartment in your bag already built in.
My washcloths are actually pretty absorbent, so at worst they just get a little bit damp. I fold it up and tuck it in an outside pocket of my backpack, so it's separated from my overpriced textbooks :)
Its so hard seeing these bags. I want one but I dont need one. Ive been using a backpack for school for about 4 years now with some plane trips in between. Its still going strong so I want to use it for as long as possible.
I have the same dilemma. One of my family members gave me their used backpack and I've been using that, but I love the way the Grunbag's look. Plus the fact that they are a zero waste company is super cool.
haha personally what i've done is i have a list of items that are zero waste and keep it for when i do need to replace my items. im not going to buy it if i obviously dont need it now
You are soo inspiring and motivating which helps me to live a low impactful life...Everytime I go for shopping I carry by own bags which is entirely a traditional practice here in my country which has faded away currently and also I use to carry my own straws, lunch boxes and bottles wherever I travel and also I keep track on the trash I am producing... Hopefully in future days I hope a large number of people will follow this low impact movement. Thanks for your lovely videos... Keep going
I'm so glad you mentioned buying school supplies secondhand! All of my pens, notebooks, and highlighters are from thrift stores, but you'd never be able to tell! My main notebook that I use seemed to brand new and is super gorgeous, and I think only cost 50 cents. All of my pens and highlighters come from grab bags of them normally cost a dollar each, but come with a couple dozen writing supplies. Some of them are always dead and need to be thrown out, but you're sure to get at least a dozen working pens that were lucky enough to avoid the trashcan and instead found a home with you!
I just got a refillable fountain pen and a pot of ink and I love it! So useful and I've turned a couple of my friends onto them because of how much more environmentally friendly they are and its so exciting to get more people making strides (even small ones) toward living more sustainably! There's even highlighter ink for fountain pens so you can avoid plastic highlighters if pencil highlighters aren't your thing.
I'd really love to see a video on how to improve sustainability as an artist, I find it really difficult using lots of paper, sketchbooks, all my paints come in plastic, my photography involves printing and inks and plasticy coated paper. Its a real struggle as that's my career but reducing waste is my lifestyle. Thankyou !!
Yeah, I'm in the same boat. :) I had the idea to learn how to make art supplies (like different types of paint and pastels from scratch, charcoal... ). I'm also slowly shifting towards graphite pencils, charcoal and watercolor pencils (which i can use to draw and paint and I can buy them package-free). I'm currently experimenting with plant dyes (for fabric, as I am studying to become a fashion designer) and apparently, ink can be made from the dye! :D
Transitioning into a low waste life style has been difficult but you've been incredibly helpful. I appreciate how your videos are practical and applicable to urban lifestyles. Thank you!
for note taking in school i love decomposition notebooks and another thing i do is just have a folder with loose leaf notebook paper (from those school supply lists in middle school & high school) and later put those notes in a binder at home
Thank you for sharing what you carry in your bag. You gave some great tips. You are helping me realize how easy it is to cut down on my waste. Thank you!
Thanks for making a video for items to use for school! I'm in college right now so this is super helpful. Also, I've heard of some compostable pencils which have a seed inside that you can plant after you are done with it. It's super cool.
I LOVE everything that Grünbag stands for. I got their dark gray backpack as a gift a few months ago and it's been super helpful and durable. I love the sleek look too!
I’ve been looking at grunbags for ages!!!! I found out about them from endless late night scrolling but I also found out from an earlier video of yours that you had the backpack as well! It’s wonderful that you’re able to share these companies with more and more people!
If anyone is like me and prefers typing over writing then second hand laptops are always a good option! And on top of that, if you have the time or energy learn about the inner workings of the computer in order to repair when needed to keep it lasting as long as possible :)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Hope your day is amazing and filled with wonderful moments! So excited for the future of the low impact movement and where you take it! You are such goals
I’ve known about these bags for so long! I’ve always wanted one. But being a student living a frugal life style they’re a bit above my price point. So excited for this giveaway!!!
What a lovely channel! I've been watching it for quite a while and I really do love it - not only because of the content (that can be found on other channels, too) but because of you, your way of speaking and explaining which makes it so wonderful, special and very natural! As I don't have instagram, it would super cool if I could take part in the giveaway via RUclips! :) The tall yellow one is my favourite! Thank you so much for the joy you're spreading!
Not sure if you are back home yet, but a day in the life while traveling would be nice or any cool stores or restaurants you find near your boyfriend;) Keep up the good work. I just got home from vacay yesterday & I did so great...not 1 plastic water bottle or single use coffee cup used. I brought my canvas bags because I knew I wanted to do some shopping & I ate out and supported some awesome vegan restaurants! ( was in Las Vegas) Thanks for your video;)
This is such a nice bag. I walk/bike to college most of the time and it rains quite a bit where I’m from. I usually use a Chico bag to carry my school things and they all get soaked. I may buy one of these to give it a go. It is perfect as I hate carrying a backpack.
This video was awesome! I love the bag and how it's supposed to be very long lasting. The color is really cute. I've had the same backpack since freshman year of uni (now 4th year) and it's almost falling apart. I use it for everything. I think that it's really cool how you're sharing info on these wonderful bags. I'll totally be buying one 💛
Napkins are useful but so are handkerchiefs for sneezes or tears. I buy vintage cotton ones, and some of them are so beautiful! I don’t use tissues any more. Hankies are so much softer and nicer to use than tissues - another case of the low impact version being better than the disposable version.
The ultimate sustainable notebook I think whould be the Rocketbook - reusable notebook. You can take a picture of your notes and wipe them off when you are done.
Thank you, such a nice video... :) Just wanted to add: If you are already using an ink pen, there are also refillable converters so you don't need to buy disposable cartidges :) also, I found pencils made from recycled paper!
Thank you so much for giving another way to enter competition lol I miss out on entering sobmany comps because they are on Instagram... I'd love to enter ..thank you Belle :)
I love your videos - very inspiring! My current backpack is slowly deteriorating so I’ve been on a hunt for a new one and Grünbag seems like a great option! Thank you for the hard work you do :)
Do you use pencil highlighters more like pencils, I mean you colorize your notes as if it were a regular pencil ? Or can you highlight as quickly as with a classic non-reusable highlighter ? I use a lot of them at college
You can highlight just as quickly, just using one swipe across :} The tip of the pencil isn't as 'thick' as a traditional highlighter tip (particularly right after sharpening), but it does the job well enough! Link below to a photo of a highlighted page :} facebook.com/PlasticFreeJuly/photos/a.249328958515547/1854229498025477/?type=3&theater
I have the Rocketbook and I love it for taking notes. Definitely saves paper but you have to buy specified pens and they are plastic. I would love to use a reusable coffee mug but my school's coffee shop does not let you use them :/
I’d like a video kn disaster preparedness. Hurricane Lane just passed thru Hawaii and Hurricane Olivia is coming. Most people buy bottled water. I bought a big water bob and filled that with water which I used later. I also have freeze dried food that lasts 10 years, but that’s in plastic. I’d love to hear options.
Love this video! I do quite like the bag! And it looks super handy and really suits you! But right now in my life I don't think it's something I necessarily need, so I'm not going to enter the giveaway so that someone who actually loves/ needs it has a better chance of winning! Good luck everyone! 🌟
I don't have IG, but I'd love to enter. Thanks for showing us what's in your bag! It's always helpful to know what others carry and what they have found works for them in the way of zero waste swaps!
Hi! First of all I'd like to say thank you for all of the amazing videos you're making, I've been binge watching them for the past few days :D and learnt a lot ! I just wanted to tell you that after having gone through the grünbag website (my backpack is at the end of its life) I made a little bit of research on tarpaulin and it seems to be a pretty dangerous material to be in contact with. Apparently the kind of tarpaulin that seems to be used by this company (from trucks, banners etc) contains (a lot of ?) cadmium which is listed by the World Health Organization (WHO) among the “ten chemicals of major public health concern” along with arsenic, lead, mercury. It is also classified as a human carcinogen. It concerns me a bit that people (you included) might be getting poisoned while trying to be better consumers. And it disappoints me a lot because that puts back on the road to find a new backpack cause I'm too afraid to buy one of theirs now :'( plus that was such a great recycling idea (but even the ones made from sails have tarpaulin on the inside!). I just thought that you should know (if you don't already). Keep up with the great content! Bye
Happy Birthday :-) Thanks for the video and your beautiful work. I comment already the pics in Instagram but I have an extra question. Do you think about having a patreon account for you or for the lowimpactmovement ?
Hey thanks so much!! I have been thinking about that a lot to just cover costs etc but I'm not 100% sure? I am working on something at the moment which will hopefully fund it all but if that doesn't work then mayeb I will :)
wow that bag is so lovely! the yellow is so fun, id love to enter but i dont have instagram for mental health reasons, would i still be able to enter? xx
Your looking very radiant! Loving the nail polish - was this a Vegan brand ? The top your wearing , was this purchased second hand or a swap with a friend ? It's very pretty!
Gorgeous video, I’d love a grun bag but it’s just not in the budget right now. Lets cross my fingers for the give away and if not it’s top of my Xmas list. Really surprised how similar are “bags” our. I have almost identical things in mine and completely agree on the pencil front so much happier since I stopped using plastic biro! Ps happy birthday x
I love your channel so much! I'd love to see more videos about traveling / your comments/views on carbon offsetting. I moved from Florida to Boston a while back and I travel home to see my family as often as possible. it's one of those things where I feel like seeing my family outweighs my guilt of flying, but I'd like to learn more about ways to mindfully do so. oh and(!) videos about film photography and low impact - I shoot primarily film and there's so much plastic and chemistry involved. I love it though, it helps me feel whole. how do you handle split interests like that? thx!!
I flew for the first time UK to us recently and tried to be eco friendly etc as possible but found it very difficult. airlines wouldn't allow me to take own food . hard to find anywhere to refill. often had no option to use my own items . made me very sad.
+AthynVixen I also saw lots of videos on yt beforehand and tbh I don't know how they managed to do the things they did . take food on board in own containers take own water. Airline staff would not give me water or hot drinks in my own cups and bottles etc
I've seen a few comments you've made regarding email entries. There isn't a pinned comment at the top of the section Immy, just to let you know that it isn't showing up.
Hey, is there another option to kindle in the UK? Here in Germany we have an alternative where you can buy ebooks in your local bookshop... I don't like amazon because they don't treat their employees well and they are threat to local shops, especially bookshops! I'm very curious what you think about that. Have a nice trip!
Hey! I hardly ever do them - this is left over from a week ago when I went to a wedding! I just borrowed my friends who already had it. Usually I don't paint my nails but if I ever do it will be a borrowed one or going to a salon or something as I would never use up a whole thing
im curious about your thoughts on going 'paperless'? as in doing the majority of your work/notetaking digitally on a computer or tablet to avoid putting paper and other stationary into recycling/landfill. technology can be unethical and wasteful to buy, but if you make it last a long time or buy second hand, do you think its worth it over paper? :)
Another great option for notebooks is to use a Paper Saver or DIY a similar idea www.papersaver.com.au/. This allows you to use A4 scrap paper, maybe from printouts that were unavoidable (or you could even look through your uni/school libraries scrap paper box if they have one), as long as they've only been used on one side. For example, sometimes I will need to print something out (sometimes it's unavoidable) and the printer I'm using doesn't allow double-sided printing. I can put that paper in the paper saver notebook and then when I've gone through all of those pages, you flip them around and you can use the other side. I feel like I'm explaining it badly but it's really useful. Also if you need to keep the notes for revision etc. you can reuse a clip or some thread and bind them together yourself for future use.
What is the tattoo on your inner left wrist ? Does this mean anything ? With pens and pencils , I'm using what I have at the moment , I have heaps of pens , at times I take them to work as I work in an office so they get used by other staff and slowly de-clutter the house. Charity shops and post offices (UK) are good for stationery if you can't swap or get hand me downs from family , friends or online charity shops.
Hi! I've already tried a lot of your tips and they are great, especially the mestrual cup, I can't live without it anymore. This bag seems very interesting, and I'd love to partecipate in your give away, but unfortunatly I don't have instangram, how can I do?
How do you decide which alternative is the best one? Like with note taking if handwritten on paper then the pages are compostable but if using a laptop then it doesn't create physical waste but uses electricity. Could you do a video on balancing your values? I've been looking for certain products but I haven't been able to find some where they meet all of my values/taste e.g. they might be vegan and cruelty free but not zero/low waste. Sometimes when I find an item that is all of my values the quality or the effectiveness of the product is lacking when compared to a product that only meets two out of three of the values.
Terrible - do not use it if you want to put it in your bag full. I love mine for drinking on the go in my hand but do not buy it if you want something that won’t spill or leak in your bag!
Adam I use bamboo cups from ecoffee cup. I had it semi full once in my bag and often have slight dregs. never had a spillage problem bit tbh I think no solution in cups is going to be 100 per cent. for full items loose metal thermos actual flask is what I'd think is best
Hello ! I think I'm really to late to win a bag :p ! I was wondering if you have some code in order to have a discount to buy a bag on their website ? Thank you in advance and thank you for your really inspiring video ! kiss from France
But shortly:i am 13,and i go to school in UK, i've asked our headteacher if we can buy a big litter bins! (they are not ordinary) you can sort your rubbish into :plastic, paper and food waste. And now we actually have them at school! Also, our school is transferring to food packaging made of recycled paper, instead of plastic one! It's happened after i Brought this idea to headteacher! Good lucky guys :)

How do u store that wet washcloth?
LOVE this tip, I'll definitely start doing this! But I also have the same question as Charon about whether you have a method of storage for that or if you just have a designated compartment in your bag already built in.
My washcloths are actually pretty absorbent, so at worst they just get a little bit damp. I fold it up and tuck it in an outside pocket of my backpack, so it's separated from my overpriced textbooks :)
these bags are so cool, especially since they're yellow. i walk to and from work, raining or not so i love the idea of something waterproof.

thrifting note books, or pens and pencils are also a great option!
I’m obsessed with my Rocketbook and was about to write a comment while I watched until you mentioned it!
Most libraries have downloadable ebooks and eaudio books these days. Depending on your Kindle, it may be compatible. Your phone definitely would be.
The ultimate sustainable notebook I think whould be the Rocketbook - reusable notebook. You can take a picture of your notes and wipe them off when you are done.

Hi! First of all I'd like to say thank you for all of the amazing videos you're making, I've been binge watching them for the past few days :D and learnt a lot !
THANKS! Just pinned it oops
I don't have Instagram, how would I enter the draw for the bag?
Is the contest still going? If not congrats to whoever won!
Hi Immy! Do you have any recommendations for sustainable laptop cases? Great video, as usual! x
Love the bag and your nails! :D
Is this specific Grunbag able to be used as a brief case type bag for people like staffers and lawyers?
How do you color your nails low waste? I find it hard to find a sustainable option for nailpolish..
Extremely helpful video! Thank you so much :) ❤️
Hey! I hardly ever do them - this is left over from a week ago when I went to a wedding! I just borrowed my friends who already had it. Usually I don't paint my nails but if I ever do it will be a borrowed one or going to a salon or something as I would never use up a whole thing

That sounds interesting! Will try to find one thank you so much 😊
Love that bag 😍
im curious about your thoughts on going 'paperless'? as in doing the majority of your work/notetaking digitally on a computer or tablet to avoid putting paper and other stationary into recycling/landfill. technology can be unethical and wasteful to buy, but if you make it last a long time or buy second hand, do you think its worth it over paper? :)
Planner video please
Are printed paper and notebooks with notes recyclable?
You should have a meet up in philly!
Love your videos! wondering where your shorts are from?
They're from 1919 Vintage on Etsy :)
Good tips!
ps. I would love that bag!!! :)
Hi! I've already tried a lot of your tips and they are great, especially the mestrual cup, I can't live without it anymore. This bag seems very interesting, and I'd love to partecipate in your give away, but unfortunatly I don't have instangram, how can I do?
Email!! Check the pinned post xx
I'm looking to replace my coffee thermos. How is the keepcup with spillage??
Terrible - do not use it if you want to put it in your bag full. I love mine for drinking on the go in my hand but do not buy it if you want something that won’t spill or leak in your bag!
@@SustainablyVegan thanks for the advice. Love your videos, they have helped me start my low waste journey.
Adam I use bamboo cups from ecoffee cup. I had it semi full once in my bag and often have slight dregs. never had a spillage problem bit tbh I think no solution in cups is going to be 100 per cent. for full items loose metal thermos actual flask is what I'd think is best
What brand is your water bottle? I remember you spoke about it in one of your videos but I can't remember which one...?
Jerry Bottle ❤️

I already commented your post in instagram! My nickname there is 'fraunessnese' good luck everybody:))
