  • The pedal sized stereo amp is SO cheap and SO good that I don't think you really need 6 reasons to own the Thunder 99 from Harley Benton. Use it as a backup, power your stereo pedals and.... well just watch the video!

I've been trying to set up a signal chain that allows me to play on headphones or small volume (living in a very small apt). I was thinking about this: Guita -> Focusrite -> PC (AmpliTube 5 OR Neural DSP plugins). From there, I could (1) send the signal to Headphones or (2) to a Power Amp -> Cabinet. Do you think the Thunder 99 could work as the Power Amp in this set up? I also have an eye at the EHX 5MM, have you tried it?

    Hi,
I have a bit of a long winded question for you, apologies in advance.
I've recently bought a Bugera 6262 212 combo amp, and the amp says it should be set to 16 ohms for internal speakers. It has a single 6.3mm speaker lead but two speakers and whatever the input source is it should be 16 ohms.
I'm actually going to bypass the speakers and plug into an axetrack isolation cab I managed to get, it's a speaker and an SM57 in a sealed box. It uses the input from where the amp would usually go to a cab, so the amp gets full use, it just goes to the iso speaker instead of the combo speakers. The SM57 picks it up, there's an XLR out which I'm planning to connect to a Behringer UMC22.
That plugs into a computer and has headphones out, but to be honest I'm not that bothered about recording, I'm basically using the whole setup as an analog attenuator with air and a mic rather than limiting the signal electronically. I'd like to get the output from the UMC22 to go to the speakers on the amp that I'm using instead of through PC or headphones, I asked on Amazon and someone said that the signal would need a power amp otherwise it would be too weak for the speakers.
    So my chain is:
    Guitar > amp section of Bugera 6262 212 combo > iso box with sm57 > xlr > Behringer UMC22 > ...... > speaker section of Bugera 6262 212 combo
Can I output from the UMC22 into the Harley Benton Thunder 99, amplify without colouring the sound (at least not too much), then send to the speakers in my 6262 cab?
This way I'd be getting all the tone of a cranked up AND cranked speakers, picking up that sound and being able to hear it, AND being able to play without a DAW when I want but also being able to use one when I do but still hearing the sound from a cab with zero latency.
The goal is to get the sound of a cranked amp AND speakers that are really pushing air, but at bedroom levels, something attenuators can't do because they lower the signal so the speakers don't work as hard.
So what I really need is a way to cleanly amplify the SM57 and get it playing out of my the speakers that are in the combo.
So do you think it would work and be safe? I'd rather use my amp speakers than buying more.
    I don't know, I'm very confused lol.
Sorry it's such a long question and thanks for your time.

(Thunder, thunder, thunder, I've gone too high!)
I know this is an insanely old video but just one thing, when doing to wet/dry/wet test, you're sending a "preamp'd" guitar straight into another preamp when using the fender... might be a good idea to plug it into the fx loop return in order to only use the power stage of the amp and bypass the preamp altogether.

Two flavors of Fuzz on the dry channels, and I run a Flanger and a Vibrato through a Panning Tremolo to the wetter amps. It is all modular, so I could slip that little pedal in right where the CS-800 is running to a couple four ohm 2x12s. (Black Label EVMs FTW🤘) Sacrifice a little bit of tone in the wet maybe, hard to tell when the Voxes are on the pipe.

    Thunder ! Thunder ! Thunder ! I've gone too high !
I wonder if it's usable with a Cab M ? The goal would be to benefit from the preamp of the Cab M, and just use the Thunder 99 to plug into a real cab on stage, while using the XLR out of the Cab M straight into the board...
I don't know if I'm clear... In fact I wonder if connecting the Thunder 99 to the speaker out of the CabM would work, if it did it would be wonderful for a flight rig...

@@TheGuitarGeek the chain I'm thinking is... guitar into aby, A signal straight into the front of my evh with 2x12 cab, B signal straight into multi effects, stereo outs of multi effect into thunder 99 then into separate 1x12 cabs. Dial up an evh clean tone out of the modeler multi effects and bam...

You did that extremely well, but here comes a warning to people who wants to try it out. Some vendors wants to make you believe that it is possible to run stereo i ONE cabinet,
it is not! It sounds thin and lifeless. The stereo signal will cancel itself because both speakers are on the same baffle. You need cabs that are separated, and if they are close to
each other, you need to angel them in a triangle, with at least a 30 degrees angel.
Brian May uses the wet / dry / wet principle with a lot of success (stacks of VOX AC30s).

    Two questions:
    1) If you set up a wet-dry-wet signal and pan the whole thing either left or right, are the positions of each cab shifted accordingly? What I mean is, if you shifted the signal 33% to the right in your DAW, would the Marshal cab be almost centre, the Orange cab hard right and the Harley Benton somewhere in the middle of the right channel? Just wondering if you wanted to double track the guitar left and right, would 6 different sources be detectable to the ear in the stereo field?
    2) Would this be usable as a flat power amp for creating IR's?

What's the difference between the Thunder 99 and the GPA-100? I'm not sure why someone would pick one over the other. The only difference I really see is the GPA-100 has EQ and the Thunder 99 has a footswitch.

I love mine its been just over a year and I'm still using it on the regular.
Thunder, plenty loud even through my 16 ohm 412 cab.
Thunder, a little darker than a guitar amp as its a "Full range" amp not voiced for a particular instrument.
Thunder, Stereo so W/D or WDW with your fav amp as the big D.
Is the Moon to far up to come down?
Thunder Thunder Thunder Cats HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOly crap W/D/W is fun.
If you don't have a 4 ohm cab you can run mulitple cabs in parallel to achive the proper impedance and its class D so it wont explode if you turn it on with no speaker attached :)
P.S. its got a MUTE for a quiet power up/off or just to try to hear what's rattling from all the THUNDER!!!!!

    • @TheGuitarGeek

It’s a power amp so you COULD use a drive pedal as a preamp and do the tone shaping there or if you have a new pedal on your board, use that.
