Thinking In Three Dimensions - Architect’s Brilliant Use Of Space In Tiny House

  • One of the core principles of tiny house design is to think three dimensionally. To make the most of the space, the ability to create zones and levels in a home is essential. In this weeks episode, we travel to Corella, outside of Brisbane to visit an architect who has designed an exceptionally clever tiny home for her, and her family.
    From the exterior, this is immediately a striking tiny home. With an imposing height and vertical standing seam metal enhancing its presence, it’s a joy to behold. Large windows have been used to fully capitalise on the dramatic views of the vast regenerating bush surrounding the home.
    Immediately upon entering this tiny house, you can see it’s different. There’s a tremendous amount going on in this home, with two different sleeping rooms, a large kitchen, lounge, bathroom a loft net and abundant storage. It even features a full dining table, a rare find in such a compact home. Impressively, all this has been fit into this space in a way which still allows the home to feel open and spacious.
    We hope you enjoy the full video tour of this home. Alison and Ben now also design and build homes for others, if you’re interested in finding out more, you can visit them here: www.tinyhousestinytect.com.au/

      Please Bruce and Rasa, could you give the dimensions in metric system too each time ? You know, in France we can’t have it higher than 4,10 m if we want to move our tiny one day… So when we see such ideas, we can’t know if it’s possible for us without metric system 😅 ! Thanks and love ❤️! I love your channel for so long…

    • @nonchuan
      @nonchuan 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@mireillenoa7997 didn't you notice they actually always tell the metric dimensions in the video (here they said 2.40 m width and 4.30 m height) and then translate them to feet and inches in the text? Also, you could easily use a converter to convert the dimensions back 😎). With max. 4.10 m you're still lucky in France, though. In Germany it's max. 4.00 m, respectively 3.99 m. Unfortunately, once you're tall, that makes things much more difficult! Already 10 cm more would help a lot for two-level split designs!

    Exceptional! There were 2 thoughts I had on the video: 1) in the USA, code would dictate some type of railing in the lounge area to prevent falling into the kids' bedroom below. (Sorry, was a liability litigation manager for too long, I see "risk" everywhere lol). Especially if renting it out. 2) I was amused that She was the architect but He kept talking over her explaining the designing process. 😅. They are both very proud of this beautiful home and rightly so.

    I have to disagree with most everyone else on this design. All I see are hazards. Things to trip over, bump into, duck under and fall from. The colors and the aesthetic are nice, but I couldn't see a family actually thriving here.

    I love the houses featured on this channel, and I'd love to see some more homes built to withstand cold climates. I live in Quebec, Canada, so houses like this one are but a dream to us, because our walls are all about 15 cm thicker due to all the insulation and we also need to account for heaters and things like that. I remember there was a really cool tiny house built for Alaska that was featured at some point, please try to bring us some more like that 😁

    • @nonchuan
      @nonchuan 7 месяцев назад

      Well, just use 10-12 cm of PUR (polyurethane) insulation and you'll be perfectly fine. Plus, if you want to safe further on wall thickness, you might combine polyurethane insulation with vacuum insulation panels or multi-layer aluminum insulation (for IR rays) on top.

      a lot of them do have heating. you can get very small stoves.. i do wonder how efficient it is since you need small pieces of wood, but apprently theyre too hot for most.. so maybe in canada that would work..I wonder if putting a bathroom on one end and kitchen on the other would help you.. you could heat the bathroom qquickly and kitchens create heat,.. you cloudl have little pocket doors to keep the interior heat in more.. id do a roller blind and or the exterior metal doors to keep heat in with big French doors at the centre/ front in the living area.. that way you could close it when it is very cold and keep the heat in at night at least..

    The use of the upstairs hallway as an office is what really sets this one apart. That is a neat idea. A passageway is wasted space, so don't.
    The only other tiny home I love that has a unique feature is Bear Tiny Homes that uses a sunken hallway on one side, and on the floor level it is closets and storage beneath it. The raise area is the matress platform (no box spring needed) and that also doubles as the bathroom and kitchen ceiling. You get full height standing room by the bed.

    It is such a beautiful home. The thumbprint photo is beautiful. I love the idea of multiple levels in the home with the storage. The levels add variety. I love the built-in sofa and the built-in dining area in the kitchen. There is so much light. It's a fantastic design! Bravo!

    I agree with your reaction there, "What a cool project" indeed! Great minds can really share something on the table. 💯😉

    Unique and very nice! Not only the extra length, height and large windows, but the overall simplicity in use of plywood throught makes their design seem so much larger. Using the different levels in the living area with just the cushions is such a fun idea! You eyes are not focused on furnishings like we see in most homes. And looks like very minimal cleaning from using it as an AirB&B.

    Fabulous home! But the best part of this video for me was seeing the way Ben beamed when Allison was talking about her process. What a great couple and a lovely little family.

    The outside looked gorgeous but I was disappointed initially with the inside 😕 Then when they said about the boat it made sense. When you showed the dining nook I was oh it reminds me of living in my caravan, which is actually something I recreated where I am now. Loved the upstairs of this especially the office area, that's a truly fantastic use of space. It all is 😊 The couple just looked so happy there as did the girls, it's a truly stunning family home ❤️
