You don't know what kind of Barry you got until he got into the kitchen. He is both chaotic or cool and collected until that time comes. - Schrodinger's Barry
Remember a month ago the frozen food relay? This episode was karma for taking the 2 mins doing basically nothing then leaving the kitchen with 4 pans at max temperature burning food and leaving Barry with a nervous breakdown leading to an amazing save on his part.
Jamie's attempt was the most genuine "Started making it. Had a breakdown. Bon Appetit!" thing I have ever seen on this channel from a single cook probably since Mike's attempt at choux pastry without a recipe.
While I love challenges, I'd love to see an episode where the chefs just get to plan and cook an incredible spread specifically for the normals and crew, and maybe add some behind the scenes moments with people we don't normally get to see enjoying a meal with everyone. I love peeks behind the curtain on larger channels. really showcases how many people it takes to keep a channel like this making the kind of quality content that it does.
So, what Jamie did was: "Go for the things I'm familiar with, no matter how I can sensibly combine them, or what the other person could do with the rest"; Barry's combo has so much more potential than bacon, eggs and wild garlic. Make the turnip tops into a kind of spinach-y braised leaf thing, give the mackerel a quick hot fry for colour (without overcooking it), make the cherries into a nice sauce, maybe thickened with some Bisto (my idea before watching what the lads do with their ingredients)... Honestly, Jamie pretty much fucked up by acting on impulse, and thus unconsciously leaving the objectively better ingredient combination to Barry. Edit: After watching, yeah, Barry easily won. Jamie had no plan, he just went for his classic "flavour bomb" combo, which only works if you have a plan (if you do, hell, does it work), but he didn't have a plan, so he panicked. Meanwhile, Barry was forced to think about his ingredients, and thus he HAD to make some kind of plan (be it ever so quick), and he came up with something that actually sounds pretty damn good.
turnip tops are very common from where I am (Galicia, Spain) and specially my town. we call the new sprouts ,navizas, wich is pretty much the same as the video. If you let them grow more they turn in to grelos they are more bitter and fibrous, wich are very ussed in a lot of stews, boils and warm salads.
I would love to see a challenege where each normal brings three tins from home. They keep one of them and then have to pick one from each of the other guys . Basically swapping cans between themself. So they would end up with 1 known and 2 mystery tins/cans and have to make a dish in 30 minutes with them. Gives each of them a chance to screw each other over.
I love the idea of the chefs doing a 15 minute batte! Suggestion to make it interesting: at 10 mins left you reveal a secret ingredient they have to make the star of the dish! That might keep them on thier toes 😊 Thanks for all the great vids.
The "Please remember I've got to eat this" from Ben freaking killed me. Both a scolding yell and a pleading cry.

I love the contrast here of Barry being completely calm and collected, and Jamie slowly losing his sanity as time passes
This is a fine (rare!) example where you can see that Barry deserves that sous-chef apron.
"what would you have done with those ingredients at home?" I would've ordered some burgers :D
Barry guessing Jamie's exact situation and the cuts back and forth absolutely killed me.
Now I want a cocktail, seeing those Kirsch cherries 🍹
turnip tops are very common from where I am (Galicia, Spain) and specially my town. we call the new sprouts ,navizas, wich is pretty much the same as the video. If you let them grow more they turn in to grelos they are more bitter and fibrous, wich are very ussed in a lot of stews, boils and warm salads.
Quote of the Day: “…And if Kush isn’t the Devil then I don’t know who is.”
Barry: "Were you thinking...."
Ben: "No"
😂😂
What about a weakness challenge? Like Jamie with no meat etc. get the normals out of their comfort zones
This is a good idea.
Wow. That I have to see, considering Jamie WAS in his comfort zone
The sass on Ben is fantastic in this one!
That cheese is going to outlive ALL OF US!
Yay Barry! For once in his life! I'm always rooting for you, Barry!
Ebbers: I love the name dickled egg.
Jamie: Of course you do!😂😂
