Cat Hunt I’m adopted. My REAL father is the man who adopted me, raised me, nurtured me, taught me and was there for me my entire life. Not the guy who’s DNA is a part of me-that man has a name, and I’m grateful to him for assisting in creating my body, and also giving me up if he did not want to be my farther/dad/daddy etc. I don’t call him father or dad. I call him his name. My father, my dad, is the man who raised me. Those who put the time, effort and love in deserve the title father/dad/papa/daddy.

Couldn't help but think the same. The last, overhead shot of her.. bigger living room than some people's entire dwellings. Pretty much literally won the genetic lottery. Fertility doctors should be DNA tested, and children conceived by donation ought to be tested so that those committing fraud can be caught early.

@maxpercer7119 1. Make sure the fertility doctor is not abusing the power trying to become the next Ghengis Khan super father 2. Help the children of "super donors" to keep track of each other and avoid incest 3. Verify that the husband is indeed the father in cases where that was supposed to be what the doctor promised. 4. Make sure they haven't switched embryos in IVF because that has happened. When a family of Italian backgrounds in New Jersey has twins and one baby was obviously black. You know somebody messed up. If someone else's Italian baby had been added, it might be a very long time before someone figured it out.

I am an adoptive daughter and I was never interested in looking for my biological parents, she told me: For what? They had their life and I had mine, God allowed me to be adopted by wonderful parents who filled everything in my life. Today I am 64 and for my children, my parents were their grandparents. My mother used to say, it is not the mother who has a child but the one who raises him and she is with them all her life.
I have a friend who felt the same way. Both her adoptive parents are now deceased. But she still has no interest in finding them.
That last question by the interviewer loosely quoted as saying doesn't Eve look at how beautiful her life is...and Eve's answer "yes, but my pain is still my pain"...wow. Honestly I believe there's a generation that wants to sweep things under the rug and not sit in pain and acknowledge it, but there's a generation of people who want to feel then heal. We need more of the latter. 💖

There are plenty of cases where a woman will conceive and genuinely not know who the father is.

I don't think donors should have people turning up on their doorstep. They don't donate to 'become' a father.
Typically people will reach out to their agency if they'd like to make contact once they reach adulthood. The agency then reaches out to the other party. It's all very formal so privacy and involvement can be protected. Nobody is having someone show up on their doorstep demanding a parent.

I’m glad she found this out but for regular donors why are you seeking them out if you know that this is just a person who donated sperm. They’re not obligated to have any sort of relationship with you.
But the person who was conceived by a,sperm donor has rights, and has the right to find out who is their bio father. .
I have an immense respect for people who see that something is off and then go down rabbit holes until they discover a truth so disturbing that they were probably better off not knowing about it. But, they decide to confront that truth anyway.

One could argue that the doctor isn't protected from donor anonymity agreements because he is the owner of a company. He would in fact violate that clause himself maybe even nullifying it. Moreover, there is a conflict of interest as the doctor would have been violating patient-provider confidentiality too as the patient (woman's mother) has a right to how her health information will be used, (i.e. her egg is mixed with his sperm), and she has to give consent for it to be used especially if it's her doctor. If he as a doctor believes his sperm is in fact "medical treatment" then she would need to sign off on this just like she did for donor #106.
106 guy and this girl are the proof that you don’t need to be genetically related in order to feel a bond. It’s all psychological and what you believe.. that’s why keep showing love to your adopted parents because they raised you. It’s good to know your roots of course but never stop loving and respecting your adopted parents..
This is what makes it so sad that we hear next to nothing about the man who did raise her and was married to her mother (until he died).

Maybe it's because deep down people like her know how sick and unnatural this all is. By the order of the Cosmos, one is designed to have a mother AND a father directly and in their life. You're not meant to simply "exist" and be satisfied, if that were meaningful then nobody would would ever leave their house. And "having what she has" is as superficial as money. I honestly do not see why mom and daughter are upset at all about the doctor being the sperm donor!?. Mom knew going in that the donors were anonymous and she desperately wanted a child, enough so to even go that route.
I found it very concerning that this woman thought it was OK to snoop through her mother's emails.
And feel free to hate on me all you like, but I find the whole idea of donor sperm distasteful and irresponsible. The world is an incredible small place, and we meet and fall in love with people from obscure and diverse backgrounds. Anonymous sperm donation means we could inadvertently fall in love with a sibling or close relative.

When I was in my early 30’s I was exploring the issue of how I wanted to get pregnant, as a single woman. I had several inseminations with frozen donor sperm. I wasn’t getting pregnant, so the doctor suggested fresh sperm from a source he had. I got a weird feeling about it and said no. This is exactly what I was suspicious of! Interesting to learn that it does happen. It’s a violation because the anonymity is one-sided. It’s creepy! I ended up adopting, by the way.

Not that long ago there were some states where people located their sperm donors and legally forced them to pay back child support. I remember Michigan and Minnesota were 2 of those states. Also states that allowed the surrogates full custody of the child they had, and egg donors legally allowed visitation or full custody of the child. Using or being a donor, egg or sperm, using a surrogate needs very careful consideration as people change their minds and it can come with unexpected legal consequences. This also puts a child in the middle of a serious courtroom battle that can legally have them placed in another home.
