  • This video is on “Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and Safety Integrity Level (SIL) “. The target audience for this course is chemical and process engineers.
Safety Instrumented System is an important pillar of safeguarding systems for chemical process plants. It serves as an independent protective layer that acts to prevent undesirable incident if something goes wrong in operation. Though it has been in use for several years, it has received attention of process designers and safety instrument suppliers after standards have come into force in the recent times for implementation of SIS. To function as protective layer to safeguard the process equipment, it must initiate the intended action when it is required or the situation demands it. How likely is the intended action to take place? What is the probability that the instrumented action will fail when demanded? Is there a risk if the safety function fails? If yes, how will you reduce the risk? What is the role of SIL in the risk reduction? This video focuses on all these aspects and delivers a comprehensive understanding of the system to the viewers. Watch the video till the end to understand with real world examples.

RRF is not in years but in times of demand if PFD is 0.01 ( RRF=100) that means that this function can fail once over 100 demands (rquests) of execution. of course this will be in 1 year from yearly maintenance to an other
