Another Dog Dumped At Our Off Grid Cabin: excavator maintenance, fixing a 78' jeep wagoneer

  • We're the Woodworths, Woody, Megan, Wade, & a baby on the way! Our family is building an off grid homestead in the Ozark mountains. Our journey started by remodeling the existing hunting cabin, which was really a glorified shed.
Next up: clearing land for off grid cabin # 2, a 20x30 cabin with exterior insulation, 2 beds, 1 bath, and enough space for us to kickstart our homestead as our little family grows.
Our 2nd baby is due in October of 2024, and we hope to have the cabin dried in before it comes.
We lamented for months about buying this excavator, but feel that it's the best way to make big progress here on our mountainous, heavily overgrown, and unmanaged hunting property.

I like 45 minutes to an hour. A lot of my favorite channnels have either got to short videos and dont get much done. Or to 2 hours. My life is too busy to sit for 2 hours.

I personally like about 20-30 minute videos. I have read shorter videos get watched more than longer videos. I don’t know how true that is though. Like I said it’s just something I read.

Just found your channel and really enjoy watching ..... couple thing that might help, your excavator needs greased every day, buckets, boom & tracks (that keeps tention on tracks which you learned the hard way). Also if you plan on burning alot get a back pack blower, green limbs and piles need lots of air blown into them to burn hot. Easy for Megan to do and not strenuos on her. Keep plugging along.

Buddy. Oh my goodness. His new name is David, and he goes by Dave, davey, daverson, or whatever else woody throws at him. woody is definitely his person, but he loves the rest of us pretty good. After a month today we’ve finally gotten him to play with us 🙌 for the longest time if he was off leash he was too nervous to go anywhere, but now he’s very comfortable and such a puppy!!

My 2 cents on clearing n stuff:
You should save some trees to make raised beds with. If you plant any fruit trees, or big gardens, you can use them as borders too. I put them around my fruit trees and fill it in with mulch. Let me know if you want me to send you pics.
You should also save some of that charcoal/ash you're creating to add to your soil when you plant anything. It's like a superfood fertilizer that lasts a long time for your plants. Mix it in with compost. 🔥
Mad respect for putting in work whilst pregnant. 👊

Got halfway through. You used the second piece of equipment without regard to safety ; eyewear especially. At the minimum, a tiny piece of metal or wood could cost you downtime, doctor visits and cash. Ear plugs are essential with a chainsaw. There are nice helmets with a chip screen and ear protection built-in. Stihl makes nice ones. Develop a couple of hand signals for communication to each other, in case of a change in direction of a tree fall. Accidents happen.

If you dont have a magnesium starter, a long nose lighter from menards is good, lol we taught our scouts how to light wet wood even after dumping two 5gallon buckets of water on wood. Use of girlscout juice (charcoal lighter) wasnt an option, lol have fun, be safe.

You can’t feed dogs onions or chocolate they can’t digest them! That’s what is wrong with him. He might even get very sick.

No I don't know what all that was about but evidently you guys has upset your neighbor's. Which is not good! Try to make amends after all they were there before you. And evidently you're violating some part of their property which is not good try to gain peace with your neighbors.❤❤❤

we are not violating any of her property boundaries, she's out of her mind, our property lines are nowhere near each other & she's been reminded by the county several times of that fact. she doesn't live in reality and its sad.

30 to 45 minutes max. Sometimes don't have time for longer vids. Onions aren't good for dogs.

David is actually the 2nd dog we've adopted that just wandered in out here, it's really sad that people keep dumping dogs.

The audio is terrible. The voiceover is so loud it's distorted. When you're in front of the camera, it's so quiet you can barely hear anything. When you're behind the camera, I'd say that's the ideal level. I'm only like 9 minutes in when I'm writing this mind you, so not sure how it is later on, but I noticed the same in previous videos.
I don't know what camera you're using, but the built in microphones rarely any good. You might want to consider investing in one of those body worn microphone everyone is using. I'm no expert, so can't really suggest a particular brand.
By the way, this is not a "Oh you guys suck" type of comment, more like "I really enjoy the channel and I think this would make it a lot better".
