And with that we are done with the nhl’s history and can go into the next season to catalog it all as it goes on. What a fun series to follow over these last few months.
Really hoping this is what happens
Watched every single video. It's great.
Me too. 🙂
Thanks THG...or is it now Dr. THG?
You have earned your Doctorate in Hockey History!
and, he didn't plagiarize it like so many university presidents did.
Don't forget that Mike Babcock was hired as the Blue Jackets coach on July 1st, and then fired before training camp even started because of looking through players' phones. That probably contributed to their disastrous season
I would love to see a video on the '24-'25 season just for kicks
A '24-'25 season run down by Shannon before the actual season starts would be good for a chuckle or too. Shannon can be outrageous or give his predictions of the coming season. Give Shannon a chance to exercise his comedy chops.
This is actually a great idea haha
As a Sharks fan I'm fine with skipping it. If he wants to do a video about the 2028-29 season or the 2029-30 season I wouldn't complain, though!
Fantastic series Shannon, bravo. Learned so much about the great history of our game, well worth the watch
I learned a lot of new things about the NHL watching this series like how Latendresse was the first ever player to wear the number 84. Keep up the awesome work!
Thank you for my Daily hockey learning session wouldn’t miss one. Thank you Shannon!
This series was awesome. Didnt get to all the videos but its a great playlist to go back to
“Brock Faber finished second in the Vezina voting” 😂
Never missed a video but man I loved the history video. Thank you for the hard work you put into these video.
Yes i watched all of the videos in this series & have enjoyed them greatly.
I am usually not one to comment on YT videos but following this series from start to finish has been an absolute pleasure throughout the summer, come rain or come shine.
Thank you for your efforts THG, and specifically for putting this wonderful series together.
Faber was SO close to getting that Vezina... so close
Connor Hellebuyck is, The, American, Carey Price, extorting the Jets with a, team-crippling, albatross, of a contract, that he hasn't, remotely, been able to justify, and, unlike the previous goaltender, unfortunately, it's, highly, unlikely, he gets a fluky appearance in the, Final, so, wretched.
You mean Calder...
@SverigeiSverige Still totally frustrating, unquestionably.
@@SverigeiSverige woooooosh
@@CB-lh4phA critical distinction, unquestionably.
Thanks Shannon! This series was amazing! Even as someone who knows pretty much everything about the NHL I loved watching these. It was like a trip down memory lane
I watched every episode, though may favorites were from the start of the NHL or NLHL (No Livingstone Hockey League), to the first Expansion. It was a great series.
As a Florida fan, I would say this was the most important, because it was this year.
I pretty sure Ryan Smith wanted a expansion team
Flyers 6th in the metro? Well you clearly hate my team. But on a real note this has been a great series Shannon, I think I can speak for all of us hockey history buffs that this was a great series and we appreciate your work.
Stupid Hockey Guy, not putting my team where I want them.
just wanted to say this was THE series for me to watch this summer (and some of fall). Like including all TV shows and other channels, this was the one that I got excited for a would sometimes wait a few days so I could 'binge" some. Thank you for this! It was so fun and so good and really addicting and fun and interesting and learned so much!!
Alexander Barkov changing his name to Connor Barkov would be funny if that did happen 😂.
This has been one of my favorite series, thanks Shannon!
I have thoroughly enjoyed this series of NHL history videos.
Great video series! 👍
Really enjoyed this series -- great way to spend the offseason!
I'm surprised you skipped the Babcock debacle.
Thank you for these videos.
While I do understand that the Conn Smythe is awarded to the MVP of the playoffs, seeing it go to a player on the losing team just seems wrong to me.
Sergei Bobrovsky lost it when the, Final, went to, Seven Games, and, unfortunately, nobody on the Panthers had the offensive numbers to, possibly, justify the award, it really was, The, Perfect Storm, truly was.
@@matthewdaley746 What's with the comma vomit
@@staalman1226Quirkiness stop complaining, truly.
That was f* painful to read, honestly
@Ryyder64 Really, you kiss your, Mommy, with that mouth, this here is a family site, so, truly watch your language, seriously.
Best episode of all
Panthers are doubted again. People really hate this team
Because it’s “Florida”. They think a place they pay to vacation in should not also be beating their hockey team lol. Bitterness.
@@CJP.-pq3kr 100%
The Panthers did lose many players off the Stanley Cup winning team
@@michaelleroy9281 all replaceable. The core is there.
@@michaelleroy9281 - the Hockey Guy just put them at #1 in his power rankings so there goes that
We should get a "it's a bad matchup for Boston" count for the series
Watched every episode. Thanks Shannon. This might be my fave season personally. I went to 6 games in 5 cities. Detroit, Pittsburgh, Tampa, Chicago, and finally my 1st game at my fave team Toronto. I was moved to tears when I got to see Maple Leaf Gardens.
Finally done with the past seasons. All the coming videos will be THG telling us what happens in the future! Can't wait!
I agree with McDavid winning the Conn Smythe. He deserved it. And i didn't care at all that he didn't come to claim it. That was the Panthers moment not his moment. It was probably one of the worst moments of his life. Anyone offended by this needs to change their priorities in life.
Wouldn't it be weird if they won the, Cup, but, they gave the, Conn Smythe Trophy, to Leon Draisaitl, despite, having far worse numbers, for, "reasons," kind of like how in 1984, they gave it to Mark Messier, instead, of Wayne Gretzky, and, adding insult to injury, he had to accept it in a nearby hallway.
@@matthewdaley746, , , , , 🙄
@@SverigeiSverigeGiant historical oddity, unquestionably.
The Stars clinch the top spot in the West for the first time in eight years, but again, had trouble winning at home in the postseason especially in Game 1s which finally caught up to them in the WCF as they would lose again in the third round for the second consecutive season. Hopefully, this coming season they'll finally get over the hump.
Will you be releasing videos to predict the future now, with your powers of clairvoyance?
Peter Stastny had the franchise record with 139 points. MacKinnon beats it with 1 point.
Glad my Panthers completed this last historical video with a Cup.
How did Nylander not score 100 points this year? He was on pace for like 120 for most of the season. Then with like 10 games to go he only needed like 4 points to get there. What happened?
Toronto's, seriously, cursed, absolutely.
The Wings with one of the biggest late season chokes I've seen. Funny enough, the Detroit Tigers just made the playoffs because of a similar choke by the Twins so we've been on both sides of a late season collapse this year.
2009's truly squared, unquestionably.
Larkin going out for the second time in the season and the team collapsing again really made me question Lalonde.
@@JaredLS10Luck's really awful, unquestionably.
For those potential ltir rules changes, I would like it to be if you where on ltir at the trade deadline & are still on ltir at the season end you cannot play in the first round.
I've watched all the videos, it was a fun serie and I've learn alot about old seasons
What a season onto the next
That Erik Karlsson trade isn't aging very well for the Pens
The Penguins got exactly what they deserved for foolishly satiating Sidney Crosby, and, the fact that they almost, (but, not, quite), got out of the hole they'd dug for themselves, was absolutely, Karmic, throwing good money after bad, has failed, since, 2018, and, he's just going to leave them, high, and, dry, anyway, period.
watched every vid in this series, awesome
Started watching in the 60s. Great effort and video as always!
pain
13:00 "What I thought was amazing about this was ...10 million of that cap hit goes to Pittsburgh."
There is a bit of an asterisk on getting out of most of Karlsson's deal in that the Sharks took back some bad contracts. In the first year they were actually paying more than that 10M in savings between Hoffman's 4.5M, Granny's 5M, and Rutta's 2.75M (12.25M). The second season it's just Granny and Rutta (7.75M), and then those contracts are off the books.
Granny had a fantastic year despite being treated as a cap dump and Rutta was serviceable, but Hoffman was just horrendous. Of course the biggest key for the Sharks is the 10M being off the books after this year...they don't care about cap space this year, nor did they last year, but in the final year or two of EK65's deal they might actually want to start spending and now they'll have that extra space.
Great series, THG, watched all the episodes! Like how you did a lot on the NHA and the development of pro hockey to put the NHL into its larger context. And now that you are done... the regular season starts!
There was 1 team I was afraid of and that happened to be the same team that eliminated my Rangers in the Conference Finals. I was so sure this was our year. Everything seemed to be clicking but alas, it was not meant to be again.
What a fun series of videos. Some years were great to look back on, especially getting to the years when I was younger getting into the sport. I really love the effort you put into this series. I can't wait to see what you have next.
i’m so glad we moved from Karlson, I love him, but this would’ve been a way more painful rebuild if he’d stayed
Thanks for a great historical series! Enjoyed every video from start to finish!
Now that we are at the end of this series I just wanted to say that I've been looking forward to each one each day, and it was a lot of fun to follow the league from its inception to modern day year by year!
Great Video Shannon!! Go Canucks Go!!!🎊
we just need cap hit matter in playoffs nothing else, maybe 5 mil bonus cap space for only playoffs per team, but i would prefer only cap hit mattered😄
Love these videos. I've watched multiple times.
This was an excellent series. Thank you
I enjoyed this video series.
Let’s hope Alex Ovechkin gets to 894 this year. And with that that’s a wrap until the end of the 2024-2025 NHL season we will be back right here.
Required, for, essential-rebuild, unquestionably.
Leafs are going to win it all this year. Screenshot it. Pin it.
Church Bingo?
When do we start the conversation for Shan making the hall of fame for broadcasting???
I mean name another GOAT
If your name/last name is Connor, chances are youll be good at sports.. mainly hockey
My VGKs Cheating Scandal Back fired vs Dallas in 7 and of course What a Hell of a Season for my Edmonton Oilers Almost Stanley Cup Champs and my Back to back But congrats Florida Panthers On your first Stanley Cup
21:25 Bob was still elite in the 4 wins in that cup final so that’s all that matters
Cats winning it all and redeeming themselves after 2023 was beautiful
The year Florida almost became the Falcons
Conn Smythe Trophy, missing-unfortunately.
No they didn't last time I checked, One plays hockey, the other plays football
@@michaelleroy9281Regarding blown leads, unquestionably.
Best video in the series for obvious reasons. Vamos Gatos
Thank you. Very much enjoyed listening to these in the background as I worked. Going to miss them a bit but thank you for the hard work getting them all done
