Maybe Hughes just doesn't have the instinct, but another injury filled year and you have to think that's how his career is going to always be because one injury begets another.

As a Flyers fan, I honestly think Drysdale will be the more important story for the team this year. I assume Michkov will be fine- put up 40-60 points, look good on the powerplay, show some growing pains adjusting to the North American game, and generally looking like a good but still young 19-year-old.
Drysdale is key though. Can he stay healthy for a whole year? Will that let him take a big step offensively? Will he look like he can be their No. 1 defenceman of the future? Because if not, they have a big problem on their hands.

St Louis is a tough one. Thomas is consistent enough that I’m not too worried about him. I’m more concerned about secondary scoring for when that top line has a slump. Will any of the new guys take the bigger role on a team and run with it - Holloway, Texier, Bolduc, etc.
Schenn, Saad, and the other vets can pop in goals here and there, but last season it wasn’t enough. The team either scored 6+ goals in a game or 0-1 for several consecutive games. Near the end of the season the team gave up and just played their prospects, so they looked further out of the playoffs than they were. Couple more goals in a few 1-0 or 2-1 losses last year and maybe they would’ve made the playoffs

I’m gonna disagree with your call on Nashville and say that Novak is the guy with the most pressure. Nashville got a lot of their goal production last year from the top line (around 36%), and now they’re putting a lot of faith in Novak to take the next step forward by likely pairing him up with Marchy and Stamkos to try and take some of the pressure off of the Forsberg-O’Reilly-Nyquist line to provide a more balanced scoring depth.

I don't think Michkov hits 30. But if he can exit this season healthy, showing progress, I'll be very happy. They're going to have a rough year, but some of those 1 goal games might turn into loser points and MAYBE we start seeing some OT/SO wins. Michkov needs more people around him to get those chances. Other teams will try to get him off his game. And Torts has said he's not making it the Mich-show this year, he will not play every night to manage the load as he's only 19. But if he's the physical freak he seems to be, he might earn that heavier load.
My Flyers storyline is to see Drysdale improve. See a couple other young guys hold their own and get to be solid NHLers. Get to the deadline see what might be out there based on how things have gone, etc. If you can leverage one of those low first rounders to clear some cap space next year, that would be nice. Soon the legacy of Chuck Fletcher will be gone.

Idk if the isles need Ilya to be at .920+ level. If both can play 40 games a piece and float around .912-.916 they’ll be fine.
Personally, I’m more intrigued in Nelson, Palmieri and Romanov. All in a critical contract year. Does romy play at a level where it’s another bridge deal or does he give enough to warrant long term. Palms and Nelson are both aging fwd’s, this free agency will likely be their last major paydays. Do they play to get paid or start to show signs of regression. Considering Lou has openly stated that he hasn’t had any extension talks with anyone, I’m really interested in what kind of money these guys will ask for and if Lou can fit them in

Its funny how you get Pittsburgh and Washington last, and why would youput any names other than the obvious? These guys are like separated twins at birth or something

@The Hockey Guy - I am doing fantasy draft tomorrow and I have crappy picks!! Give me some ideas for a few players to draft that might get overlooked by the others tyyy!!

I know it's just pre season, but desharnais looks absolutely horrible. It just looks like he's always scrambling, almost like Tyler Myers 2 years ago. I know size is nice but they need another puck mover. I'd rather see Friedman, hirose, or maybe mcward have a chance at being a regular 6th dman instead of him

Laine might score 60 goals but he was never gonna do that for Columbus, and I'd hate to have my "key" player be someone so unreliable. You never know if they're gonna show up and when the going gets tough they flake.

@@JarradBruessel32 That's too bad. I have nothing against Laine, but I wouldn't want to have to rely on him for anything but cream on top of the cake. I'd want to have my real "core" guys and anything Laine can add would just be extra on top because he has shown he's not a reliable player, even when healthy. Kind of like Alex Kovalev of an earlier generation.
