I love that the guests speak in French & the English subtitles!! I studied French in school and it's so different to hear French in its everyday from (as opposed to in movies). I think it's beautiful! I.e. when she was speaking about colours from her childhood, "attaché" was translated to "attracted." I think "attracted" is what English speakers would would use, and the correct translation, though a direct translation to "attached" would've been beautiful too since it's about nostalgia. The French language is so romantic. It's so nice to make the comparisons and learn about French & fashion at the same time ☺️

Thank you for the video! Benedicte, in fact, says an interesting thing that straight and oversized silhouettes look good on her body shape (which is absolutely true!). I would really love to see a video from a Parisian who is curvy or probably more hourglass-shaped as that would be more relevant to me personally - and I'm sure I'm not the only one!
That isnt likely. Did you know that this version of the "chic french woman" is a trope that's been recycled for generations? Seductive, chic, unbothered, in control, elegant, white and always rail-thin.

I have to disagree. I have an androgynous figure like her (maybe a bit more curvy in the bottom). I stay away from hard rectangular lines and do as much as I can to accentuate my waist otherwise it looks like I don’t have one. I don’t want to look like a boy. I think a curvy figure would look great in all the outfits she wears. It’s more a matter of fit (note she said that she does have pieces tailored to her body), of how and where the fabric falls, narrows or widens, of how you carry yourself. Posture and self-confidence count the most.
I’d also not describe what she’s wearing as truly oversized. Her coats are loose, not tight fitting, but look like they fit. I thought the beige sweater was a bit too wide and didn’t look good until she put on the jacket. If you’re going to be spending all the time in the park with the jacket on that’s a non-issue of course. And for lounging at home, it’s perfect.

All you have to do is watch an Eric Rohmer film without falling asleep and you’ll have the gist of it. Start with Love in the Afternoon. Or read Cheap Chic, a styling guide first issued in the seventies and written by a French and an American
Curvy and hourglass doesn’t look Parisian at all. Their whole sense of fashion is built around a typical thin frame. Anyone else wearing these styles won’t look remotely “chic”.
UK girl here - I came for the clothes talk but her apartment is KILLING ME! Georgian architecture is the BEST! So elegant, so light! Perfection! I went somewhere else simply watching her walk around! I love a good coat - Jigsaw is a fantastic British made brand that does quality tailoring at not insane prices, they have beautiful cuts and colours too, always classics. I’m a slim pear shape, but this fashion advice I find can be switched up or down depending on your colouring and shape. I think every woman has some chic in her for sure! X

Wouldn't have found the subtitles had you not commented that they were there so thank you for that. The unusual boots to lift a very refined version of simple are incredibly effective but a lot of it is the also the way you hold yourself I think. Hair, make up and very good genes are also invaluable of course, here we too often tend towards either don't care or plastic excess.

I love how Bénédicte openly says that she had clothes altered to fit her better. That statement alone opens so many options to clothes that I normally would have bypassed for being too large. We need more topics using real mature females and their Parisian points of view.

I liked the french chic simplicity of the first two outfits but not the outfit she wore to the cafe.
That is what a man would wear - jeans and boots, leather jacket and a baseball style cap.
Where is the femininity that the French Chic look is famous for?
Sadly, many younger people around the world been influenced by the American athleisure wear look which is a very androgynous look.
I have been lucky to visit Paris and other parts of France a few times and lucky to have spotted several very beautiful French ladies who embody that simple, elegant, chic, feminine, sophisticated look that Paris is famous for.
In all cases I did a double take as they looked amazing.
- A lady in her 20's, iwalking towards me in the park wearing a very simple black crepe de chine sheath dress with a large dramatic style black chiffon bow on her shoulder, tied just so and beautiful black heels. Simple and chic.
- Another lady in Paris, sat outside a cafe, wearing a simple, grey, sleeveless shift dress. It was in a good quality fabric. Her hair was worn up, but it was her perfect French style make-up, complete with red lips and cats eye eyeliner, plus her poise that was the show stopper.
- A tall elderly lady walking along the promenade in Biarritz. From her posture, I would guess she was an ex-ballet dancer. She had white/grey hair, worn up in a ballerina style bun and the most beautiful near floor length peachy/pink chiffon dress, that was tight in top but had a flared/pleated skirt that billowed out behind her in the breeze. She had two small white fluffy dogs (Pommeranians?) and looked a vision. I sat and watched her as she walked by and thought....... "Only in France would you see that".
I live in the UK, no-one would dress like these 3 ladies for everydaywear, unless they were going to a party or wedding.
I found their looks inspiring, although for my version I would have to wear lower heels.
Take one simple dress, add heeled shoes, do your hair and make-up beautifully, add a beautiful accessory such as a necklace or scarf, stand-up straight and you are good to go.
Oh and a couple of cute dogs won't go amiss either :)

The difference is that those who are interested in fashion (I e., this young woman) are playing with texture, colour, proportion & accessories when they put together an outfit. It is almost never a jumper, jeans & boots. It's in the details.

I do like Parisian style - chic, elegant, sophisticated and casual - dress for yourself and not for others. I would wear Stefano Ricci brown cashmere sweater and Brioni cashmere overcoat and Stefano Ricci super 160 charcoal wool pants with my Borsalino/Brent Black/etc hat, simply comfortable and classy.
P.S. Don't wear light blue jeans while pairing with overcoat, it's too casual. Go with dark navy color jeans instead.
