Jesse from survivor 43 was over rated. Kinda like Dean for island of the idols he waited till very late in the game to actually start playing. I just find it hard to respect that type of gameplay. I also feel like he was a salty jury member which I can’t respect either.

Having longer episodes (even hour long) are unnecessary and make the show boring. It just feels like a slog to get through and with so many "twists" and little to none "villains" to spice things up, modern seasons are boring.

Not my opinion but someone said that promoting Jeff from just a host to the top dog (Executive Producer) was possibly the worst move in the shows history. Think about all the dumb stuff Jeff has come up with: island of the idols, edge of extinction, and the “too nice” people being cast as opposed to great tv villains/pot stirrers, etc.

EP doesn't mean what you all think it means. EP are often IN-NAME only, meaning a majority of their job is financial. Jeff is hands on, sure, but at the end of the day he still has to go through other producers, EPs, board members, etc. Guaranteed, beyond suggestions and casting, his main role pre-season is effectively investing. He's the host and face of the brand which is why he's seen as being a lot more powerful than he frankly is.

I don’t think this is unpopular but: Jeff trying to make every moment he can an emotional tear jerking scene is cringy and results in those moments feeling far less natural and real. I can’t tell you how many hundreds of times I’ve probably heard Jeff say “what is that feeling” to prompt an emotional breakdown from players. I also think the high frequency he does this at makes it feel more like gameplay between players than a truly emotional moment.
Also get rid of Final 4 Fire Making. It was originally designed to help save the front runner at the Final 4, where idols could no longer be played, ie Ben, Wendell, etc. but has resulted in strong players being cut earlier as the rest of the players fear someone getting to the end. This also results in skill in fire making being a detriment to your game at the final 5/4, bc front runners are likely to target the best fire maker at 5, and the winner of the final 4 challenge will place the best fire maker against the front runner.

    • @Thenewboidahlia

I loathe how much Jeff is trying to make everything a cringy emotional moment, like in the first 20 or so season the emotions were all organic and everybody talked about them organically, now it’s “where is the emotion coming from?” Like really Jeff??

My unpopular opinion is that survivor needs to go back to just 2 tribes. Yes, 3 tribes can be interesting, but overall, i think i liked just 2 better. Now players have less people to work with, and they’re pretty much forced into alliances with whoever the 4 other players in their tribe are.
Additionally, it’s too easy to just have an unlucky draw and get one tribe that’s much weaker than the others, which becomes unfair to the remaining players on that bottom tribe since now they’re going to automatically be on the bottom of their new tribe after the swap. with 2 tribes however, physical abilities were much more balanced, making it less predictable as to who would win or lose each challenge. additionally, there were more options of people to work with, making alliances more chaotic and less obvious.

    • @Skunkd.
      @Skunkd. 6 месяцев назад +8

Whenever they stick to one or the other for too long, there are always more and more arguments as to why the other format is better. What they need to do is to keep mixing it up, just to keep things interesting. Nobody wants to see one or the other happen 10 times in a row, it’s lame

Also, 3 tribes theoretically disadvantages the tribe with numbers at the merge. Since the other 2 tribes have an incentive to gang up on them. Which an unfair reward for playing the game well.

Has anyone else noticed that when a season has three tribes, we usually see one tribe get steamrolled?
Typically the first tribe to lose immunity will start to death spiral until only two or three members remain.
That's not to say that it never happens on two tribe seasons or that three tribe seasons will always have one tribe get demolished
but I am pretty sure it is more likely to happen on a three tribe season.

I think there are way too many stamina based challenges in the post merge. 45 only had two immunity challenges that didn't end up being some form of a stamina challenge (The one in episode 9 started out as an obstacle course, but ended as a stamina challenge), and 44 had something similar. Watching some form of "who can hold on to this the longest" over and over again gets repetitive and predictable. The reward challenges were often way more interesting to watch, as they had way more creativity and variety.
More variety in immunity challenges balances out the game.

Everyone starts with $500 (or whatever)
Normal for first few food items and then drop the twist
Letter from home, the catch is everyone will write down their bid without making it public. Highest wins. If there is a tie, the people who were tied both lose their money and the next highest bidder gets it.

As a survivor fan who is just as big of a fan of rupaul’s drag race, the whole “fakeness” and “niceness” and lack of good villains is such a problem on reality tv nowadays. It’s either a person is too controversial for the tv network, they’re too scared to speak their mind for the fear of being attacked by fans, they do speak their mind and basically get cancelled for anything remotely mean/shady/strategic, or you get no villains at all and a boring season. The old seasons of drag race were the same as survivor with abrasive, shady queens that MADE the show. Now, every season that comes out at least one of the queens gets bullied off the internet (not exaggerating) or gets their social media accounts bombed by trolls reporting them just because they said something villain-ish on the show. Even one of the judges for drag race Canada had to take a mental health break after he was torn apart by fans saying he was a harsh and nasty judge. And most of the time when you look back at the season, those villains are what kept us watching even if we hate them!

  • @maxmclain8572

I seriously don't understand who Jeremy critics think should have won that final 3 if not him. Jeremy was the biggest threat from at least Final 7 on - and Tasha and Spencer never took him out. Also Adam played a great game in Millenials vs Gen X, there's an argument for Hannah being over-hated by the jury - but Adam had an incredible social game, strong threat management, and understood exactly what the jury wanted to see in the gameplay. The jury was leaning towards Adam well before they learned about his mom at FTC. I think its fair to criticize the show for leaning too heavily on the sappy parts of both of their stories, but that's hardly a knock against their winning games

    • @reductosmash2483
      @reductosmash2483 6 месяцев назад +2

The sympathy pleas they both run off at final tribal definitely overshadow their gameplay, but aren't the reason they won. I think the critics for these two aren't seeing the fact that their gameplay was overshadowed, and just call it dropping a baby bomb or a dying mom card for an easy win, which neither was. Both were deserving winners. The sympathy pleas were just the cherries on top in ensuring they won.

I actually liked the original tiebreaker of past votes to decide who goes. It was by far the most fair, and on a rewatch you can see how this forced players to be even more strategic with their votes (namely Survivor Africa). Just switch out the survival quiz with fire making for the past vote ties, and I think it's golden.

My unpopular opinion is that I do not give two shits about the players backstories, I don’t care who you are outside the game. I think it goes hand in hand with what some people have called the “softening” or the casting of “too nice” contestants. Giving people so much backstory, sob story, and overall motivation air time takes away from what makes the show enjoyable in my opinion. While they’re can be external motivators that factor largely into *some* players game play getting into that much nuance with *every* player is extraneous and tedious. I remember when it used to be shocking when someone revealed something deeply personal on the show, now it feels like in every episode someone’s divulging a deep dark secret, trauma, emotion, motive, etc. which I also find icky from an exploitation standpoint, you shouldn’t have to sell your personal details to win a reality show.

This may not be unpopular, but it’s not talked about enough: Fire tokens ruined Winners at War. Being voted out first meant that Natalie had far more opportunity than anyone else to get them. an idea for the survivor auction is to have a consequence still for whoever has the most money at the end but dont let that exclusively be known or a definite. I am thinking there will be 3 scrolls on the table and the survivors have to vote on which random scroll they want for their auction. This wont be opened until the end but it could say things like "whoever has most money loses vote" or it could be an extra vote, able to include yourself in any reward in the future, a small cash prize, or even sent to another beach alone with no shelter for the night. It could be a good thing or a bad thing and they wont know until the end and that would make people spend money a bit more unpredictably.

Intentionally casting Russell's or Intentionally casting Rupert's, isn't going to make the show great, they need to cast first based on personality types and have one friend and one person that will get on their nerves for each player to create conflict. Once you have the 18-20 character types then cast players based on different styles of gameplay so that we get dynamic gameplay and interpersonal drama.

I agree the auction is worthless now. That’s my unpopular opinion, it was a huge waste of time. No idea why they wouldn’t just do the old auction style but only do food and also say “every auction item will have a parchment. It might be an advantage or it might be a blank piece of paper.” Problem solved. Bid on everything. I’m so confused why they don’t do this? Or even just hide an advantage in one food item and don’t tell them which one. Also problem solved.
Maryanne’s 5 hour podcast is my favorite podcast of all time, so, have to disagree with you on that one 😢😢 freedom of choice is a good way to put it though. I don’t enjoy the one hour ones, i find them so rushed.

Hi. I'm your huge fan from Finland!
Few points: constant twisting things mean more luck, not good gameplay, just like someone said he/she likes more twists - this isn't nice - this show was amazing already. I would hope the best player always wins but planting idols etc. does not mean that the best player always wins. There is no need to be like twists on every episode. Hate it when Probst calls this as something as "new era" where they put more randomness on every season.
I can't find any site where to watch Ponderosa, I'd love to see these because they're geolocked and no one uploads them. Maybe some good VPN would be ok for me.
This new auction was the biggest joke ever.
I strongly disagree that Russell would not win now. Usually jurys are not so bitter now compared to 10+ years ago. Yeah, sometimes they are but they put their personal feelings aside more and this would favor Russell so much. I know he isn't your favorite. :)
I absolutely love Maryanne. I was so happy she won!

An opinion i get a lot of hate for is saying that Denise is the exact same kind of strategic player as Sandra
Their gameplay is almost identitical. A quiet mama type to the person with the most balanced charisma for the cast (rob/rupert- Malcolm) only beefing with the town idiot when the moment is right (fairplay-Abby) and an unsuspected on island, but highly expected wins at the end.

Jeff has publicly said Survivor is a “family show” now. I think this gives all the insight needed as to why everyone’s personality has had the edges sanded off, and why there are so many “SURVIVOR HELPED ME OVERCOME MY STRUGGLE AND BECOME THE UBERMENSCH” stories. I also think each cast is a huge luck of the draw, and recruits aren’t a bad thing. Both china and Gabon had a bunch of recruits and those are my favorite seasons. Also it’s old hat but 26 days is too little. Even increasing it to just 30 I think we’d end up with a better product.

The thing that bothers me about that mindset is that it was never inherently not family friendly in early seasons so feeling like they have to “tone it down for kids” really irks me.
I’ve been watching it since I was 4 years old with my mom, lots of other later season contestants have said they watched since they were kids too. Obviously the adult stuff and the finer points of strategy went over my head when I was younger but there’s no sexuality, swearing is bleeped, nudity is blocked out, the level of “violence” and competition is akin to watching sports, and as a kid I loved the new pretty locations and watching “games.” It was definitely a more mature show, obviously it was made with an adult audience in mine, but Jeff insinuating it hasn’t always been watchable by families annoys me. The kid-ification of adult oriented things is a weird trend, especially when things were already okay for kids with proper parental guidance.

My big unpopular opinions: first, the way "hidden" immunity idols are placed & found in last dozen or so seasons lacks credibility. Too many idols, found too easily. All too often it appears that they are placed so as to be found by a particular player at a particular time. Its getting top point where I have difficult time believing that these scenes are not being scripted.
Second, the "sob story" game, where players seem to be trying to outdo each other to see who can come up with the most tear-jerking background story to win sympathy from the audience. EVERYONE has a family at home they miss, but im tired of long, tearful confessionals about dead grandmas, rough childhoods, cancers, recovery from injuries or addictions, underdogs, and all other manner of stories that bring on the sad music. "Ill see your childhood poverty, and raise with a handicapped sibling" - slaps cards on table. Boring.
Also, bring back "Come on in guys". That whole scene was one of the absolute cringe scenes ever filmed for the game.
Whew, Im glad I got all that off my chest. Carry on!

I get these words still have meaning in Fijian, but for crying out loud LuLu in 45 means “barn owl” in Fijian, what the heck? Tribe names sound so similar nowadays. For example: Lulu in 45, Luvu in 41, Lesu in EoE, Levu in HHH. Another example: Soka in 44 and Soko in HHH, or Vesi in 43 and Vati in 42, or Yase in 41 Yara in WaW and Yawa in HHH. One last example: Mana in Game Changers and Manu in EoE. Please give a tribe’s name more than four letters

Tribe swaps. More of them. I would love to see a season where the tribes swapped before every immunity challenge so that players were forced to make alliances with people outside of their starting tribe. People who think 45 is the best season of the new era- what are you smoking? 2 quitters, a dominant alliance that never gets contested, Austin throwing the game by being a simp, and Emily's unfortunate exit all make this season so damn boring. They casted a dude who can't climb a ladder people! I was legitimately more excited by Kaleb's SITD and Jake's fire than anything done by the Riba 4 and Dee's win was basically guaranteed when Emily left. Jesse from 43 had better gameplay than anyone on 45 and the Tika 3 were all better characters and a more exciting storyline than anything that came from this season. Please show me a single moment from 45 that is more captivating than any second of Carolyn's screentime or more emotional than Yam Yam helping Carson practice fire. If you think 45 is the best of the new era please don't apply for the show because you'll probably be pulled for withdrawals from all the hard drugs you're currently on. I wish the previous 2 seasons had the longer runtime because 45 managed to become a weekly 90 minute snoozefest. Sorry, not sorry.

My unpopular opinion would be that I would be in favour of replacing all of these journey's with a pre-merge exclusive Redemption Island where they join back into the game at the 'earn the merge' bit. My reasoning is that it lengthens out the pre-merge portion of the game so that we get to see stronger tribal bonds and more interesting dynamics later in the merge. As well as making it secret to the contestants. Tell them that Redemption Island is there only during the pre-merge but keep all of the duels away from the contestants so that at the 'merge' it would be a surprise to everyone.
Plus Redemption Island would work better in the 90-minute episode format and it would add another level of complexity to the game focussing about the social aspect of the game, not strategic with all of these advantages. That being said, once the pre-merge is over, so is Redemption Island.
Let me know what you think

Your unpopular opinion I agree the most is Samoa is a top tier season. It had a pagonging, and unbalanced edit wasn't a good thing. But also... it had everything. Chaotic characters, comedic characters, pure heroes, pure villains and more. Natalie is imi a great winner - she was riding coattails (she admitted that she was silent because overagressive girls were out), but still managed to make strategic moves, build bonds, being viewed as a non threat. Like she said, her strategy was to be underestimated while building friendships and very much succeded. Also Russell just knew how to make an entrataining TV, but failed to understand that making moves isn't everything, all of your actions decides if people respect you or not.
And mine opinion: Jenna M is underrated as a winner and production, fans and others treated her way too terrible. Despite stereotypes of being viewed as a week and spoiled girl, her game was effective, she won multiple challanges and she is one of the few players, who gave away her immunity and still was safe.

I personally think that it should not matter if you are on the “bottom” of your alliance. Especially since if you flip you’ll most likely be on the bottom of your new alliance. Also, your position could change before next tribal council due to power shifts or your relationships with other players. Unless you’re playing a intentional flip-flop game like Sarah in GC, it doesn’t matter if you are on the bottom or not of your alliance. If you are going to win from the bottom start to earn power in your original alliance.

I kind of agree with the HvV one. I think it's a fun season with the best cast ever, but gameplay-wise it's pretty meh. The heroes fall apart so quickly, and the villains early are quite interesting, post merge is just Russel and his annoying girls in full control. It's not the kind of class I was hoping for. And I would have much rathered it be Sandra with Rob, Courtney, Jerry and Coach over Russel, Parv, and Danielle. Damn you Tyson for changing your vote.
Have to disagree hard on Jeremy being a bad winner. He played a smart game in a super strategical season, found multiple idols, and won in a landslide. Yes he had sympathy with Val, but even without that I'm confident he still wins.

I know this likely a popular opinion, but I think we're all tired from seeing the same scenery. I know CBS has a deal with the Fijian government, and it isn't really possible as of now to find some new beaches, but the new era of survivor has felt more like a set than an island. I also think the lack of immersive experiences with the locals that survivors would get on rewards has contributed to this. I do miss when survivors had opportunities to learn about the culture of the places they were staying in. My mind sees the same beaches from the last few seasons and just thinks of it as "Survivor Island."
