- Real eye-level footage of Tom Dillmann during a private test day in Circuit de Catalunya in the Formula V8 3.5. The camera is mounted on the middle of the visor. A single seater driver can only see the top of his tires. Note that in the straights I'm looking slightly down to look at the dash board so it appears lower while in cornering it gives you an accurate view.

there's no point seeing the sky in half the mirror and the track in a quarter of the mirror, maybe the mirrors are wrongly positioned, I don't know.
in 99 (it's a long time ago, that might have change), I read from a F1 driver that in the cockpit you can't see the first 5 meters in front of you (at track level). here you can't see the first 15 or 20 meters in front of you at best, so … I can't believe it's eye level

this is NOT eye level. as you can clearly see from the mirrors. they show the sky which means the cam is mounted way too low on the helmet.

@@frasersime1082 If you look at the mirrors you see the stands and the sky. it's not eye level. If it was eye level you would be able to see the rear wing and the road behind him.
when i first got in a formula car, it was a very big change not being able to see much, this is eye level, it took some getting used too, but it feels more natural now.. coming from karts where you can see everything was a big change.
What I love is the people arguing with the driver. "No, you can't be right about that..."

Is this really at eye level ? I know pilots can barely see the track but here is like blindly guessing where the track goes as it's impossible to see anything at all...

+Xlet87 The view while cornering is accurate (around three fingers of the tire sidewall) in the straight line the view appears lower as I'm looking down on the dashboard to take informations.

I love the arguments here about it not being eye-level. Having raced single seaters myself I can confirm its eye level, regarding the mirror, you see the top of the rear wheel so you can see who's behind you, not into the ground you can see tire-wear at 300kph. You don't have to belive me, but unless you have more real-life experience you are just talking without proof.

The camera is below the level of the eyes, you simply have to see the mirrors of the car. Great video, greetings.
Mirrors are showing that it is not the real position of eyes...

Ì would say very close but not perfect. No man would build a car where you actually cant see the turns. the eyes see the track just above the nose. the shake and camera make it look like half the turns are out of sight.

This is just a little bit lower than what the driver actually sees. Not a whole lot, but still lower.
