    I don’t think anyone expects this to run like a staccato out of the box, but must of us would rather spend $900 for a gun that requires upgrades out of the box than $1400 for a gun that requires upgrades out of the box.

      Or you take the smarter approach and 1: save up for a good 2011, or 2: buy used. I got my CK Arms Custom Limited for $2.5K used with the four SVI 24 round mags with Taran baseplates would have cost over $4k new. My CK 2011 has 2k+ rounds through it with out a single failure, 700 rounds were Underwood +P+. Buy once cry once, if you insist on cheap get the Springfield and replace the factory mags with STI/Staccato or other quality 2011 mags, poor mags are what cause 90% of 1911 and 2011 failures.

      @@m.w.2401 yeah. Most of us won't even spend $1500 on a gun let alone $2500. 2011 around 1k is already good enough for us regular folks. Then spend the extra cash in upgrades makes it pretty comparable afterwards and in some ways better.

      I have one and all I have done is polish the sheer, stipple the grip, and changed the recoil spring for a lighter one. The only thing I will change is that the trigger is too long. All that aside it runs as fast and as well as my staccato. I'm selling my staccato to further upgrade my MAC. I have less than $1200 in it including a holosun 507 comp green dot so yeah dude got unlucky but any real gun owner knows there isn't a gun on this planet that doesn't require some personal "fit and finish" to make it run 100% the way you personally like it

    Sorry to hear about your issues with the gun. Mine ran without any hiccups. Prodigy mags worked well, 20 and 26 round. My only gripes are the heavier trigger and recoil spring. Just about every budget 2011 is a budget 2011 for a reason. I'm happy with my choice and plan on tuning it to make it as perfect for me as possible. Thanks for the review. Great insight.

    Great summary! I picked mine up for about $850, upgrades EGW ignition kit, with 17# main spring, 13# recoil spring, atlas flat trigger further back set, and stippled the frame myself. With a stipple job the module feels better in my hand than a staccato c2 grip texture was the only issue. I did a ramp cut on my slide for the disconnector. I’m into it a little under 1500 and at this point I feel it’s the best value 2011. The live free may be better out of the box but I don’t feel it will upgrade as well, it’s not as well built. Anyone who wants info on upgrading max 9DS I’m happy to provide info. No it’s not amazing out of the box and don’t expect that, but it is a great starting point to build the gun you want and start a 2011 journey.

    I shoot 2011 for competition. Bought this gun for carry to keep the same platform. Almost 1000 rds through and zero malfunction so far. It ate everything I threw at it including hollow points. I polished the sear, disconnector, adjusted the sear spring and brought the trigger weight down to 4 lbs. This rig has not disappointed me yet.

    I actually had more issues *after* my review. I sprung it down and tuned the extractor and most of the issues completely went away. I also agree with your assessment on the grip texture. We've also got two of the bushing 5 inch Tisas 2011s and they're way better in my experience. We've got another MAC9 that's doing better out of the box, so the issues aren't consistent.

      I guess I got a good MAC DS. 1200 rounds of mostly Blazer 115g, and it's been flawless. Thought about lower strength recoil spring, but the gun shoots soft and has been 100% reliable with the stock spring. I haven't cleaned it yet, just a couple drops of oil on the slide rails at 700 rounds. I have long fingers and like the trigger length, but it is noticeably longer than the trigger on my Prodigy. The grip texture is lacking and could definitely use some stippling.

    • @GATSIncTV
      @GATSIncTV 5 месяцев назад

      @@arsenal_27 I also ran 2000 rounds through it in very short order. Some of the problems with the gun are deliberate design decisions that aren't present in the 5 inch bushing guns. The recoil spring and erratic ejection went hand in hand with me. The trigger is long for most people and the hammer spring is way too heavy.

I’ve got 300 rounds thru mine. 1 ftf the second mag in but no issues since then. My first 50 rounds were 124 nato. It has fed HST’s just fine too. Mine was $750. It’s my first 1911 and also first 2011 style pistol. So far I am happy with the purchase. Thanks for the video. As usual, it was excellent. I have purchased one of these and do like it. That being said, I didn't purchase it with the thought process that I was going to get Stacatto or Bul-like performance. However, I was hoping to get close to Prodigy-like performance, and doing a few upgrades that might push me to or above that threshold while spending similar amounts. I picked mine up for $880 and have only had one FTF. It is sprung too heavily, so I put in an Atlas 11lb recoil spring which has definitely helped and I haven't had any additional failures. I'm about 500rds in. I have sent it out for a trigger job and will still be into the firearm for less than a stock Prodigy. Their rollout has had some hiccups, but not nearly as dreadful as the Prodigy's was. That being said, I do have plans to purchase a Prodigy as well. I was able to shoot a friend's recently side by side and noticed the trigger difference which lead me to get the trigger job. Many purchase the Prodigy to upgrade it to get higher performance and durability at a lower price point than a Stacatto or Bul, so in that regard, I'm happy with it. Only time will tell how it holds up. My main issue is that for some reason the way I normally grip a 1911 causes me to occassionally not actuate the grip safety on the MAC. I may look to change it out (since I recall another video of yours where you said not to pin the grip safety). Overall I'm happy with the purchase, but realistic in knowing what the gun is. Keep your content coming. My family loves/hates my dad jokes that I've lifted from you. Of course I don't give you credit for them, I just tell them I'm a comedic genious.

  • @PaulFrancisAAA

    Great review... To add my thoughts... Spend a couple hundred on upgrades and the DS9 becomes a fantastic pistol. I put an Atlas tool less guide rod, matched sear ignition kit and a lighter recoil spring in mine. All in at under $1200 (with recent lower pricing, most could now do the same mods and come in a little over $1K). Since the trigger in the 2011 is basically "everything", it takes the DS9 up to around the Staccato level for shooting experience. (and yes, I purchased a Staccato P shortly after picking up the DS9 so that I could compare them). NEGATIVES are: sights don't co-witness and you can press the slide stop out on a lot of these guns while the slide is still in battery.

    My Prodigy is fixed, the gunsmith set it up with a trigger that pulls at around 2lb 6oz and it has Atlas IDPA safeties...I need to shoot it more, but so far it's disgustingly good for being the price of what the Prodigy was selling for when they were new (1248+350 not including the cost of the Atlas safeties).
    PS. The grip was one of the reasons I honestly say that people who want a bull barrel should just go with the Prodigy.
    Also, my Prodigy came with a 5-6lb trigger. But, it was reliable after 150rds and some of the initial fuckery.

    Another data point for you.
    I have 1500 rounds through mine and several USPSA matches, without a hitch.
    when I received it the right side safety was floppy, and the trigger was 6lbs and the slide would hang up on the disco.
    I adjusted the sear spring down to 2.5lbs and reduced the disconnector pressure, pulled the safeties and tightened the knuckle joint until the safety was tight. After 1000 rounds I replaced the guide rod with an atlas tool less rod and 13lb recoil spring
    It's only been ran with igman 124gr FMJ for range/comp and Winchester 147gr JHPs for carry
    I agree the texture of the grip is terrible, other than that it's been a great handgun and it seems like I got lucky

    Long trigger shoes are typically made of aluminum. Even a tired file will cut aluminum. Easy to make the trigger shorter. New recoil spring is about $7 or $8. Magazine base plates are an endless battle as every gun seems to need something different. From my perspective, pistol looks like a lot of performance for the money. Excellent review. Thanks

    • @socmonki
      @socmonki 5 месяцев назад +8

      @@anthonycarlton1286 in super simple terms, metal is mixed with a filler/binder (some sort of polymer), and the slurry is injected into a mold and formed. Then, the molded piece is heat treated which vaporizes the binder, solidifies the part, and the part shrinks some percentage of its original size. It's a very useful technique when you want to make a very intricate part for a low cost. Well done MIM is as good as any other part, but you can get bad MIM parts, and you can get bad forged parts. MIM is used in a lot of areas, like in planes (turbofan blades), cars (some engine and transmission parts), guns (going all the way back to the 70's i believe). MIM is just fine, but people think if it ain't forged or bar stock, it ain't worth shit. I say, if it works, it works, use it till it breaks or wears out then replace.

I also have my Platypus (which I ordered because of you...) which I love, and I have the Tisas DS 9's (Duty and Carry). I have preemptively changed the recoil spring in the Carry to a Platypus spring (13 lbs) because IMO 16 is just too much. I thought that with my Stingray, although it never had an issue, but I like the feel of the 13 lb better. Duty has 14 lb, seems fine. Put Klonimus full length guide rods in them just for the heck of it. Changed the Prodigy to a 10-8 GI setup though...lmao! Platy has an EGW full length. Even the updated 2 piece from Stealth Arms was coming loose, and it kind of seized when I loctited it so, no more 2 pieces for me, too much trouble.

Savvy folks already did this I assume. Budget double stacks are fun to see and root for, but the difference from a limited user like me from the Apollo to the Platypus is massive and I have messed around with the next level like Staccato/MPA/VGW and it's whole other jump. Spend the money for that mid range option or spend energy and money upgrading to a prodigy/tisas-MAC/Girsan/Apollo 11 to a point it is nearly the cost of mid range without being that good. Not sure these budget options defeat the quality of a Tanfo/CZ/Beretta/PDP/Sig but whatever blows people's hair back.

    I feel like pricepoint alone means you can't reasonably expect stacatto performance or reliability out of this lol. Not that you can't have good levels of those at lower prices but 2011s cost a fair bit for a reason. And I don't really expect stacatto performance out of my prodigy lol
    The grip on it bothers me because it seems like it's trying to be stacatto but isn't.

  • @omac7773

    Wow , talk about a hit piece.
    Go back and watch your 4.25 prodigy review
    No bashing about commander size, running hotter nato ammo on the Springfield ,no talk about finish on the Mac ,barrel fit ,slide tightness or lack of tooling marks etc
    It does seem your intent was to bash exactly because of the positive reviews.
    Everyone is going to be respringing and sear spring adjusting these 2011's , no matter what -except on the high end one's which you already paid for.
    Curious , you can remove the magwell easy enough and you state you dont like them in the springfield review- so why not remove it ? , options are nice
    No shooting iron sights for function check , curious ..
    Question- Are you sponsored or supported by Springfield in any way?

    • @TheHumbleMarksman
      @TheHumbleMarksman  5 месяцев назад

      Other than review samples occasionally no - I bought my commander prodigy - it worked fine.
      Out of the box the prodigy was a better gun than this. Why does that bother you?

    • @TheHumbleMarksman
      @TheHumbleMarksman  5 месяцев назад

      Also you are unhinged - I have contacts at several very big YT channels - I understand the kinds of deals channels get. Usually it’s just a review sample. TFB is sponsored by Glock to run promotion on Glocks.
      The kind of deals nobody does is negative PR campaigns like you are implying - that’s not a thing. Dudes like you who know nothing assume it is. It’s not.
      If I am sponsored I am required by the FCC to disclose it - it’s in the description and I mention it early in the video - if the gun for the video is a sample for free - then I have to disclose that as sponsorship - if I don’t I get hammered by the FCC potentially and that’s smoke neither I - or anybody wants
      So - why do you choose to be aggressively ignorant?

    • @omac7773
      @omac7773 5 месяцев назад

      @@TheHumbleMarksman It doesn't bother me that the prodigy worked fine out of the box, I know some do some don't- cost doesn't always equal QC as you say
      What does interest me , as a new to 2011 platform , not to pistols consumer , watching reviews to to get quality info on new guns coming out .
      Sorry dude but watch your prodigy review next to this one , you are literally trashing on the mac for being a 4.25 in gun
      I was in the market for a 2011 and decided between the tisas variants or the prodigy, ultimately deciding on the mac , even though it hasn't established a prove track record.
      I went in expecting tuning and re-springing would be needed on either platform, and I was correct- both are overspung and heavy triggers for the platform
      I guess I've been lucky, did a 13 LB recoil spring and bent mainspring to about a 3 Lb trigger pull and haven't any issues,
      For me the the prodigy isn't a better gun for the cost difference, but that's my opinion , I would like to hear what's worth ,say 400 dollars better on the prodigy ,
      Now if you say ,well it just works, yep mine too, sample size one each so ..

      @@TheHumbleMarksman Also as to your comments about being unhinged and aggressively ignorant-
      I don't believe myself to be unhinged in questioning your review points, they just seem to be considerably different between the reviews , and that is called an opinion , and yes, everyone has one.
      As to how the YT process and shilling aspects of reviews and promoting products goes- Guilty as charged, I'm not familiar with the process so I asked

    • @TheHumbleMarksman
      @TheHumbleMarksman  5 месяцев назад

      $400 better than the Tisas is it's american manufacture, better optic system, and better grip module. The prodigy has 3rd party support in the form of magwells specifically for it's grip now. Either gun if I were running it I would drop an ignition kit (matched sear/hammer) and a toolless guide rod. At that point the prodigy has MIM firing pin stop, safeties - maybe slide stop - I can't remember. The prodigy trigger profile happens to be my preference - that'd be another piece on the MAC I'd have to swap.
      Prodigy has more functional slide serrations - the forward serrations on the MAC aren't aggressive enough.
      So despite the better slide finish, better small parts at that point all things equal between guns - I would have a better performer with the prodigy and I'd have flexibility on optics in a way you don't get on MAC. Realistically - ambi safeties break with enough use - whether MIM or tooled steel. The Prodigy is built closer to a good spec than the MAC is - from a "bones" perspective without having to do surgery on a grip or potentially swap them. The prodigy also has a heavier slide profile and barrel as it doesn't taper - of the polymer gripped options out there - it's appreciably softer shooting. Plus the grip texture on the Prodigy is pretty legit. Sprinfield got it right on developing that profile for the hellcat. And slide to frame fit is appreciably better on the prodigy. If you believe infinity - the least amount of vibration/turbulence in firing the gun - the better form a longevity standpoint. I doubt these guns will see round counts that high - but - the prodigy is better fit. Controls are better fit. Stock springs are closer to optimum.
      RE: my review points - look at the Apollo 11 video - it's very similar to this one with a gun that had hiccups. The Girsan 2311 was more negative because the gun choked more. The prodigy review - I had zero issues with either of the guns (one sample and one I bought). I didn't receive the sample until after the review was live - so there wasn't any sort of "glow" from getting a new gun. To date - I had exactly two malfunctions with either prodigy - one from a short Sig VCRown that was short and one from not tightening that stupid two piece guide rod down correctly. IN a couple /few thousand rounds now on the prodigies collectively they have fewer issues than this one MAC did in ~420 rounds.

I think I've got in narrowed down to the Apollo 11 or the Prodigy but there are so many affordable options right now including this one. Do you have an overall favorite in the "affordable 2011" offerings??? From your previous video regarding the "affordable 2011s" you seem to lean towards the Prodigy. I can't afford to buy multiples so whatever I purchase, I will be stuck with for at least awhile LOL.

    I agree 100% with your opinion on this pistol. The LFA Apollo with some minor tuning if by far better than most of the economy 2011's out there right now. This gun can also shine with some tuning, a grip module change or enhancement, a 10 lb. recoil spring and a good aftermarket trigger exchange. All of the "cheap" 2011's are basically a starting point. If you can do some DIY tuning you would be way ahead of the game.
