I am 6 ft. 5 in. tall and have large hands that can palm basketballs, so I really like that this gun has a slightly wider grip. I know a lot of people have a problem with Turkish guns but I don't. The Turks have been making guns for hundreds of years. This looks like they've gotten a whole lot of things right. The Glock-cut rear sight, the optics capability, the rail, the beavertail grip safety, the thumb safety, everything. Fantastic review! Thank you so much for this! ❤👍👌
Excellent presentation. I have dabbled with more costly 2011s so these might be really impressive. The Stingrays are very good, better in fit & finish than I expected.
I agree with your final thoughts; this handgun is a departure from the norm. In my range time, I shoot four different 1911s. It is hard to compare a 1911 to a 2011, I have tried several 2011's but 1911 is my go to. It fits me and my hand. I really believe that carry what works for you and you practice with. Shots on target are more important that shots fired that do not hit what you want to hit. Great evaluation video. Thanks
Another excellent review. Thank you, sir. Based on your reviews, I’ve acquired 3 Tisas 1911's. Two out of three have been 100%. The 9mm carry had extraction issues,. I swapped the extractor out with and EGW, and it’s been flawless ever since. I look forward to more Tisas reviews.
I acquired my copy of this pistol on Friday, 27 December. I was prepared to pick and choose from several, but I grabbed the first one they brought out. There is zero play in the barrel lockup, either at the breech or the bushing. Also, there is very little slop in the slide-to-frame fit. The trigger is a bit heavy but that can be worked out. It feels like the lock-up on a Staccato, that I drooled all over. Two different laser bore sighters showed that the sights are spot on right out of the box. I will be putting the first round through it on Monday.
After your comment on how soft shooting it was I went back and looked at your shots from the rest. After the smoke clears it looks like the gun never moved, even though you can see some movement before it gets obscured by smoke. That is awesome. Great, thorough review as always.
I probably look pretty silly in that segment, but I just couldn’t tell if the tack was still there. The lighting conditions at that time were not that great.
@@hrfunkIf it was me, I would have had a complete look of shock because I don't think I've ever had a "bullseye" in life. I usually settle for close enough. I need to raise my standard up a bit I guess.
Another quality informative video-something I do appreciate and have come to rely on from your productions, and you never fail to deliver. My pistol life began with the M1911A1 long ago when it was a standard issue item, and the one experience I had with a 2011 was my buddy's Para-Ordnance full sized double stack. For me, it was the same in that the controls were in the same places and the manual of arms identical, but there was something about that grip that felt foreign as if I were shooting a very different pistol. There is something about the ergonomics of a 1911 which makes me compare every pistol to it. You are the "fair and balanced" reviewer of firearms sir!
The frame design is interesting and clearly less expensive to manufacture than a solid steel or alloy frame. That's not a criticism but an observation. Functioning and accuracy were both excellent IMO. Thanks for yet another informative and interesting video.
Glad to see you venture out of your norm. I have have multiple traditional 1911s and a few double stacks. All are routinely carried. You can always find a grip module in the future that has been slimmed down to an officer size, or one that is not as thick if you choose and still be uxnwr what many DS models go for.
I liked how you clarified several times the difference between you just needing to learn the gun as opposed to a problem with the gun. I know other RUclipsrs would just say it was the gun's fault or this or that. Subscribed!
Another fantastic review with a very balanced perspective! Glad to see a budget friendly double stack 1911, as prices on other offerings have kept me away as well. I will probably wait for the .45 Auto or 10mm version... still very tempting though!
Enjoy your videos. Purchased a TISAS as a Range Gun. Reminded me of the 1911 I carried in the USMC as an MP (1974-1979). Reliable, Accurate and Affordable. What more could I ask for? Inexpensive, yes. Cheap, NO! Well-made and nice finish. I did not listen closely and when I heard you say it was a 9mm I almost GAGGED!!!! Thought it was a .45!!!!
My Staccato came with a full-length guide rod by Dawson Precision that doesn't require any tools, paperclips, etc. Since it takes the spring tension off the slide stop, I find that it breaks down even easier than a GI-style 1911 without the full-length guide rod. I believe you can get the Dawson Precision rods for other 1911's as well. If I didn't have the staccato already, I'd be ordering one of these Tisas DS pistols as soon as I could get to my local FFL. That may still end up happening if they start making about a version in .45ACP or 10mm...
I have a Tisas 1911 DS 9mm Carry 4.25in and it's the best handgun I've ever owned! Tight slide with tight groups and only 1 misfeed in over 850 rounds! I think my son was limp wristing it when the sole misfeed occurred so I don't think it was the gun's fault. It has excellent reliabilty and a 4.5 lb trigger out of the box. Tisas makes an awesome 2011 and I'm definitely carrying this from now on! Classic firearms has a $100 off sale today and you can always get one on Buds firearms. GREAT GUN!
I recently acquired a Live Free Armory Apollo 11, which is another double stack 9MM handgun priced under $1000. I love this pistol! As you say, it shoots "soft" and is extremely controllable. Accuracy is better than I can match 😵💫. The Apollo 11 does have that FLGR that you dislike, it is simple enough to work with and the gun runs flawlessly. If I had not bought it, I would be looking for that Tisas Duty DS ( I prefer the full length over the Commander slide ). Great video, I envy your ability to drive that tack as easily as you do.
Another Grear review Howard, I have the stingray in 9mm, and the 1911a1 45, and both have the same excellent workmanship that you mentioned. Please don't give it back till you have had time to work with it some more! I'm interested in this 2011 especially the price. Give it some more play time and another video, Thanks
Just picked mine up today. I can’t wait to see how it stacks against my prodigy as a 2011 face off. So far I am digging the feel of this pistol, hoping to get it out this weekend and get some rounds through it! Thanks for a great video that helped me pick this one up!
This was the first video of your’s I’ve ever watched and I must say it was excellent I am currently considering a transition from .357 Sig to 9mm due to physical issues I’ve purchased a sig 1912 tacops but I want a larger capacity A friend recommended TISAS to me and I’ve been reviewing them
Thank you. I’ve reviewed several Tisas pistols over the past couple of years. They have all been serviceable handguns and some have been quite impressive.
Thanks for this review. With all the "GREATEST GUNS EVER!!!" reviews on RUclips about 2011-style pistols, I've been looking very seriously at picking up one of these Tisas pistols. This review will definitely help me decide.
Another excellent review of today’s contemporary handguns. HR your reviews are always well filmed, well organized, well presented. Watching you shoot, and getting used to your expectations lets viewers understand the weapon you’re showing easier to understand for themselves. As a former Marine and civilian law enforcement person, this weapon’s size, capacity and appearance seem to be a winning EDC option. I currently carry two weapons while in traffic, and one for personal carry upon exiting vehicle. Unfortunately I believe the capacity of weapon supersedes the caliber of weapon, because I continue to be fan of the 1911 .45, I consider my 9mm pistol as mass shooter encounter weapon. Hopefully needing neither. Semper Fidelis @ Tack Driver
Another great pistol review HR, as always. I like some of the things you pointed out about it, just two items that convince me I'll just stay with my old Colt. One is the caliber, the other is the plastic grip assembly. There is just something wrong about plastic in a firearm. I know it's all the in thing now a days, I'm jist old school. Thanks again for an excellent review...
I’m really excited to try one of the new Tisas 1911 DS nightstalker. It’s basically the 5in version of this gun with a few upgrades. I honestly had no interest in 2011 guns until about a year ago. My brother is a police officer and his department just allowed them to start carrying Staccatos if the officers buy them. He purchased two with the significant Leo discount. I thought it was dumb until I shot one. There is some secret sauce there that makes them incredible. I can’t drop 2k+ but $900 is doable for me. Thanks for this review. It makes me even more interested in the Tisas 2011s.
As an old 1911 guy, I am looking VERY hard at one of these. I shot STI 2011s way back when they first came out in competition, so the grip is fine for me. Thanks for the review, Sir.
Great review! I can't wait to shoot this gun. I love 2011s and this one is priced to sell and everything appears to say this is going to be a great pistol.
I’m glad I purchased my 3 tisas 19rs…. It wouldn’t surprise me if the price point will rise…. Tisas is a gun that you really do get more then you pay for… I’ve listened to so many reviews and it is hard to find a negative review…. Glad I got em when I did
Tack Driver!!! That's part gun but mostly YOU! Good Shootin' Mister.....ya gotta love a 1911. Classic looks, great feel, heavy enough to let you know you have something in your hand. I don't mind polymer stuff, but I just love the feel of a hunk of metal.
Thank you for your honesty in your reviews I am actually looking at this very pistol for purchase and I’m still looking at it trying to find one at the range I can shoot as always your ability as a high end shooter is a help when looking at a pistol your honesty is worth it’s weight in gold god bless and stay safe
I finally attempted the 7 yd tack shooter thing. I used a S&W 6904 for my attempt. It's tougher to do than what you make it look. I didn't get it in the first 3 shots. I did get it on the 5th shot however. I have the Tisas 1911 1A, which I purchased after seeing you video, and really love it. It's a great gun and as close as I'll ever come to owning a GI 1911.
I would bet that after a few hundred rounds you would like this a lot better. The softer shooting feel is probably due to the wider butt distributing the recoil over a larger area. I like your insight that this might be part of your missed shots as well. It's much different in the gun/shooter interface with the wider grip; it will take a little getting used to. It looks like a nice one. Great video as always; thanks!
A Very precise table top review!! Everything that is needed to be known in a logical sequence is presented !! A very good appraisal of the performance and accuracy of the pistol without an over amount of rounds fired!! This helps in everyone getting fair evaluation of the pistols initial performance and characteristics. It presents the initial exposure and information for a decision to to explore this type of pistol further and whether to purchase one!! Looking forward to a possible more in depth review for performance and reliability with a wider range of ammo if possible!! Keep up your Great reviews!! Quality over Quantity!! Thanks!!
I have been very impressed with every Tisas I have. I have a Service Special and 2 W W II slide marked ones, one in .45 and one in 9mm. This might have to be added to my collection for daily open carry around my rural property.
One thing on the trigger weight. These are marketed as "duty pistols". So the trigger is going to be a bit heavier. My staccato duty pistols are at 4.5lbs for that reason. If you are ever out this way you are welcome to try them.
My local range has one of these. It has near suppressor height sights. I found it to shoot low. I was slightly underwhelmed. But I believe that if I worked with it for a while, I would probably come to like it a lot. I’m very happy with my B9 carry. It feels like a “cheat code” coming from my Sig P320. Not as crazy about the 9-round capacity. But I’m way more confident in my ability to hit with it over other pistols.
Good morning, HRFUNK and family. Happy Saturday to everyone there and BIG HUGS❤. Yes, sir. As much as I love my rock island tac ultra fshc 45acp dubble stack. Yes, as it also being a 2011 type pistol. Is it practical to carry. My opinion. No. She's 3.2 lbs full magazine and one in the chamber. WAAAAAYYYY, to heavy for concealed carry my opinion. For home defense and just working around your house outside and as a side arm if your out in the woods. 💯. Of course I'd rather have a 10mm when in the woods than 45acp. But as a carry pistol. No. I'd rather have a 1911 4.25 barrel as a carry pistol when away from my home. When Hornaday flex lock 45acp ammo.
@@hrfunk Yes! Will do. Also subbed to your channel! I have really been doing my homework with this piece and already have some parts in mind for it. I thought this was another excellent review, Howard; THANK YOU. This Tisas 1911A1, like every other Tisas that I’ve ever seen or watched a credible review concerning, has an excellent design and outstanding materials and build quality. Quite simply, Tisas’ 1911A1s are fine and affordable firearms, J M Browning would be proud of their products. With this said, however, I’ll raise a key question. Both this double stack Commander and its sibling the five-inch barrel Tisas 1911A1, are chambered in 9x19mm and have 17+1 capacities. Now, I was raised on 1911A1s, and I truly believe John Browning was a genius. BUT what do these weapons offer - in a practical sense - that isn’t provided by a BHP, or a Beretta 92 (and its descendants), or a CZ 75B (and its descendants), or a Walther P99 (and its descendants), or a Sig P226, or a Smith 39/59 series, or even striker fired M&Ps, or a CZ P-10 (and obviously the foregoing list could go on forever)? Over the decades, I have found 1911A1s (and I owned excellent Colts, Kimbers, and Springfields) often to be somewhat more difficult to maintain (and, perhaps, even a little bit finicky). Yes, their DA triggers generally are superb and they are precision accurate, but (imho) so too are SA 9mm’s (like the BHP) and DA/SA 9mm’s (like Walthers, Berettas, Smiths, H&Ks, Sigs and CZs). In addition, I respectfully suggest some of these non-1911A1s are more tolerant of “field condition” issues. How many of us have experienced 1911A1 stoppages resulting from things that would not cause more modern designs to malfunction?
Thanks Roy. i still think the 2011 as a concept has more appeal to competitive shooters. The biggest advantage, in my mind, is the 1911 trigger. In the speed shooting games, that trigger system still reigns supreme. The 2011 couples that with the 17-round mags, and "Viola!" we have a super race gun. For the defensive shooter, the concept offers less. There are certainly those who will always think more is better when it comes to ammunition. I guess if those folks also have a fondness for the 1911 platform, the 2011 gives them the best of both worlds.
@@hrfunk I completely agree. By no means am I anti-2011, and it has excellent competitive potential, but defensive handgun use - military, LEO, or citizen - really differs from completion in several important ways, as you know better than I.

I just got my carry DS . I always wanted a 1911 ever since I saw one in call of duty as a kid 😂 it’s nice that it doesn’t break the bank. I can’t wait to cycle some rounds!
@@hrfunk To anyone reading this, you can definitely take my review with a grain of salt. The only handguns I’ve ever really fired was old M9s in the military and M17s with occasional casual fire with friends over the years. I’m definitely more comfortable with AR platforms. Look I don’t care what anyone says, handguns are the hardest things to shoot that you can get your hands on. But after a few rounds I realized that the recoil is very comfortable, the weapon is not trying to jump out your hands. It just feels smooth and easy . That’s really nice for me because I don’t fight recoil, I let it do its thing and I get my sight picture again. Everything about how the weapon handled the rounds just feels good to me. The trigger is great but it’s not easy to get used to. I had to wrap my finger around the trigger a little more to keep myself from pulling my shots but after I got used to it , I was putting rounds into the same holes . It’s a very smooth , accurate firing handgun. What I like most was the reliability (so far) 150 rounds with zero issues, no malfunctions at all which is very important to me. Overall , being an inexperienced handgun shooter and a completely green 1911 shooter, this is probably the best handgun I ever shot. I love it. Just very comfortable and easy to fire while being reliable so far and customizable ready. I’m not sure what more you could want at the price point .

Great review ! Tisas seems to really be knocking it out of the park.
Excellent review HR!
Thank you!
Thank you! That’s what I’m aiming for (no pun intended).
The frame design is interesting and clearly less expensive to manufacture than a solid steel or alloy frame. That's not a criticism but an observation. Functioning and accuracy were both excellent IMO. Thanks for yet another informative and interesting video.
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching!
Subscribed!
Thanks for the sub and welcome aboard!
Sorry Marty!
@@hrfunk Ha Ha ALL GOOD! Semper FI!!
Love your reviews! I just ordered the full length model!
Be sure to let me know what you think of it.
@@hrfunk I haven’t shot it yet but just ghosting the trigger I’m not that impressed. I’ll reply with more after I’ve taken it to the range.
Love this guys videos but as of late I have found myself picturing this guy as the great value Paul Harrell
My pleasure. Thanks for watching!
Great video, thx. More of a classic guy myself too, this DS muddys that water with a Hi Power. I think I would defer to the later.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
This was the first video of your’s I’ve ever watched and I must say it was excellent
I am currently considering a transition from .357 Sig to 9mm due to physical issues
I’ve purchased a sig 1912 tacops but I want a larger capacity
A friend recommended TISAS to me and I’ve been reviewing them
You're welcome. Thanks for watching.
Thanks Mark. Semper fi!
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching!
Very detailed and straightforward review! I recently discovered your channel, excellent work sir!
Thank you!
Thanks for the review, as always very well done and insightful.
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching!
Good review. I'm not as versed with 1911's, but I'd find a 2011 too different as well. Nothing beats the slim feel of a traditional 1911.
As an old 1911 guy, I am looking VERY hard at one of these. I shot STI 2011s way back when they first came out in competition, so the grip is fine for me. Thanks for the review, Sir.
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching!
Good review, HR. Looks like another nice 1911-style handgun from Tisas.
Never held a 2011 , I like the feel of the single stack . Looks like a great shooter !
GREAT REVIEW BROTHERMAN!!!! THANKS! HOWARD M.👍👍👍👍😊
Great review! I can't wait to shoot this gun. I love 2011s and this one is priced to sell and everything appears to say this is going to be a great pistol.
Great review as usual! If I can ever find one of these I definitely want to pick one up.
What’s the difference between the Tisas DS and the MAC 1911 DS?
The MAC uses a bushingless barrel and a full length guide rod.
Can't wait to see this. This should be a game changer.
Good video. Interesting pistol. I like Tisas. My 2 1911s and my hipower are all great.
Thank you for your honesty in your reviews I am actually looking at this very pistol for purchase and I’m still looking at it trying to find one at the range I can shoot as always your ability as a high end shooter is a help when looking at a pistol your honesty is worth it’s weight in gold god bless and stay safe
👍👍 great job by you and Tisas.
Good for you! I’ll tell you a secret, when you’re recording a video for the entire world to watch, that shot can be a bit harder. Thanks for watching!
Cool video. Thanks, Chief and thanks House of Pain.
Great review thanks, I'm serious thinking about getting one of these even though I usually want at least a year before buying a recently released gun.
Thank you!
The tack driver test is funny and I like it. Someone should have thought of this before now
Heck yes I’m excited for this pub!
You did an honest review of this pistol. Thank you! I might buy the 5"
Thanks you for taking the time to review this pistol.
I'm wondering if maybe some grip tape would cure the tendency to shoot left?
Thanks again.
Really enjoy you content and perspectives. Keep up the great work, sir.
Will do Russ. Thanks for watching!
A Very precise table top review!! Everything that is needed to be known in a logical sequence is presented !! A very good appraisal of the performance and accuracy of the pistol without an over amount of rounds fired!! This helps in everyone getting fair evaluation of the pistols initial performance and characteristics. It presents the initial exposure and information for a decision to
to explore this type of pistol further and whether to purchase one!! Looking forward to a possible more in depth review for performance and reliability with a wider range of ammo if possible!!
Keep up your Great reviews!!
Quality over Quantity!! Thanks!!
You’re welcome.thanks for watching!
I have been very impressed with every Tisas I have. I have a Service Special and 2 W W II slide marked ones, one in .45 and one in 9mm. This might have to be added to my collection for daily open carry around my rural property.
The anger I keep this one, the more I think I'm going to just end up purchasing it. Overall, it's a great handgun for the price.
One thing on the trigger weight. These are marketed as "duty pistols". So the trigger is going to be a bit heavier. My staccato duty pistols are at 4.5lbs for that reason. If you are ever out this way you are welcome to try them.
Right. I was thinking the same thing with regard to the nearly 5 lb. pull weight. Still, as I mentioned in the video, it feels lighter than that.
@@hrfunk my staccatos are the same. 4.5 lbs yet feel much lighter. Zero creep as well
Hey good job. Appreciate your review. No fluff
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing this information. Looks like a good pistol comparable to higher priced similar ones.
Thanks for this video. I’m sold on it and gonna save my pennies for it. Awesome video!
Thank you! If you do end up getting one, be sure to let me know what you think of it.
@@hrfunk Yes! Will do. Also subbed to your channel! I have really been doing my homework with this piece and already have some parts in mind for it. A full length guide rod, 12# spring, a shok buff and a maybe a wilson combat barrel bushing since I have seen several videos where the factory bushing rattles the barrel. I def wouldnt like that either. Thanks for the reply!
My pleasure. Thanks for the sub and welcome aboard!
@@hrfunk Do you know which model staccato mags will work with the Tisas DS?
The full-size 17 round mags should work.
Great video. The sound track outside at the range is very clear but in your shop it's still hard to hear you. Good luck finding the problem.
HR, great video. You're doing a lot of knife handing this pistol. Maybe you need to take this one out to a comp to help you burn off some energy? Keep up the good work. Thank you for helping Paul. Semper Fi!
can't wait for the follow up reviews with the pistol. Nice solid review.
Thank you!
@@hrfunk
I completely agree. By no means am I anti-2011, and it has excellent competitive potential, but defensive handgun use - military, LEO, or citizen - really differs from completion in several important ways, as you know better than I.
First time watching this platform excellent review sir I have no doubt this firearm would work well for me ..I do agree the blacked out rear sight is an issue, but I'm going to put an optic on this one anyway again thanks for a great review
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the video and review. I plan to buy this handgun and eventually make it my everyday carry. I carry a Arex zero 1 Taftical now sp weight and size is not an issue. I just think this gun is the perfect edc for some people. I just wish they produced this gun in 45acp but from what I hear they are planning on releasing other calibers later on
I haven’t heard that, but I wouldn’t be surprised.
Were these it's first shots? This looks VERY promising that is really impressive especially for the money. I really hope that I get my hands on this to check out. My Unboxing today is on a really Efficient size/weight to capacity Turkish Budget Micro I told you about.
Cool. Yes, these were the first shots with this pistol.
Good solid information 👍
Good work Sir. You can get thin grips to help negate the fat handle.
Great review and it's a tack driver 👍
Thank you for another great video!
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching.
WOW , Awesome shooting as always..
Thank you!
I just got my carry DS . I always wanted a 1911 ever since I saw one in call of duty as a kid 😂 it’s nice that it doesn’t break the bank. I can’t wait to cycle some rounds!
Please let me know what you think of it after you have a chance to shoot it.
@@j2ko57 Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
@@hrfunk being my first buy, do you think I made a good choice? I’m wondering
