ok guys there are 2 small steel rings that are on the ends of that plastic gear . you should be able to turn those sleeves on the ends of the plastic gear very freely . mine was stuck on the motor side of the actuator .i had to file inside of ring and re grease everything to get it to turn properly. i had 9 and 1 flash code with diif and 4wd lights . it worked and my bike is fine . THANKS TO THIS VIDEO I WAS ABLE TO FIND MY ISSUE . thanks mud puppy
Dumb question: on the Honda 500 atv 4wd actuator the gear with the two springs, could you turn the alignment arrow 180 degrees in order to have sharp splines rather than the worn splines that cause the actuator to bind up and thus lock into 4wd. Thank you for your knowledge and time.
This video was really helpful. I still have one question. How do you reseal the actuator when closing it up? Everything I see according to Honda is that this piece is not serviceable. There does not appear to be a gasket made for the actuator itself, only the O ring where it goes into the differential. Did you just use a high temp gasket sealer?
Are the blue and yellow wires running to the motor hot and negative or two types of hot wires? I don’t seem to be getting power to the motor, and I’ve tested for power back to the female plug that is zip tied to the frame. Is the power to the motor dependent on the circuit board being good?
Hello, The actuator is not switching from 2wd to 4wd or difflock and i tested the switch and it’s working fine, i also tested the actuator(externaly) with a power supply on the +ve and -ve terminals and the motor is fine in both directions Would the actuator be defective with the motor working or does that mean that the actuator is ok and that i have a problem in the wiring harness? Thanks in advance
Nope my 80 series landcruiser uses vented diff lock actuators, separate vent from differential works great. If Toyota doesn't on a Land cruiser it's always a good idea LOL
I have a problem to where it’s not in four wheel drive and it’s all locked diff and 4wd without the buttons pressed in what could the problem be and it won’t let me go over 20
mud puppy, i have a 16 foreman 500 and when i hit the 4x4 button, the light will flash but the actuator will not engage. i have tested the relays and fuses and they are all good. pulled the actuator and plugged it into my buddy’s rubicon and it worked perfectly fine. i’m at a dead end with it, can you point me in the right direction?
The 4wd drive on my 09 foreman when i put it into 4-wheel drive sometimes it slips why does it do that and how to fix thanks It make a really bad noise
hey man I got a bud of mine with a 18 Foreman 500 and his 4x4 just stopped working no lights, codes, ect. got a brand new OEM switch. how do you test if the actuator is getting power. he said it out it in diff lock without turning 4x4 on and now it's not working. the actuator doesn't even move or make a sound. thanks man awesome vids. keep it up!
Mud puppy, I just started having problems out of mine not engaging right and I have the codes 9 slow and 2 fast and it won’t let me go over 20 mph. I’ve cleaned all the connectors and dielectric grease them also, I cannot get it fixed any ideas?
so diff lock light blinks when diff lock is engaging. ive noticed sometimes if you engage it the diff will lock but the light keeps blinking for a short while. is this normal?
Does anybody know what would be wrong or ever had this happen I went in a pond with my rubicon (its snorkeled and the airbox is siliconed) after I stayed in there for a while I smelled gas while I was water riding and the water had like weird rainbow lookin ripples lol after that I got it on a black top road went about 25mph some bitch backfired now it wants to just cut off at random ass times mostly if I’m goin a pretty good speed or if I really get down on it in a mud hole what could be the problem cause I’ve already cleaned the spark plug idk what to do next
did you find the motor for this i have searched for hours with no results everything in mine looks fine but one of the brushes in my motor fell out at some point and i cant find a replacement any where
The only things that aliens will find after the human race destroys itself are old Honda quads and 80's Toyota pickups
😂😂😂

My guess would be that it's one of your relays but the only way to know for sure is to test with a known good actuator.
You’re lowkey a jack of all trades... edit: if you vent the actuator it will sweat won’t it ?

mud puppy, have u ever used bed liner or linex or anything around that to paint a four wheeler?

Blinks 9 times slow, 2times fast

Worn out maybe. Since the bike is so old that’s my guess, but I’m no Honda guy. Probably just buy a new one and replace it.
I have the same trouble wit a honda foreman 4wd slips under load would a new actuator fix this 🤔

You swap with known good actuator
Or rebuild the actuator
thanks man

Haven't seen those issues not something I can help you with you need to get a manual
Okay thanks bud
Can this be operated off the bike??
Yes
so diff lock light blinks when diff lock is engaging. ive noticed sometimes if you engage it the diff will lock but the light keeps blinking for a short while. is this normal?
Yep
It will not stop flashing until it is fully engaged

So I unplugged my actuator and now I can run faster than 20 but you know I don’t have 4x4 but I plug it back it it goes back to limp mood?
Same what did you do to fix yours
