The exterior of the units are somewhat easy to clean but what about the INSIDE of these lower units? Any hints?
That is a great question. There is one big difference. Make-up air does not have any A/C components. The system will be more elongated and not square. I would recommend checking out: ccpia.org/inspecting-commercial-kitchen-exhaust/ for more details.

How does one easily identify make-up air units. Don’t the look like package units?
