Disclaimer: Lore is subject to rumor found in the game universe.
Suleyk Los Vahzah, power is truth. The mortals call them dragons, but in their tongue they are Dov, children of fire. They have resided here on Tamriel far longer than the frail groundlings, and their immortal souls will persist long after. While the childish races squabble over their piles of rocks and dirt, the Dov hold dominion over the boundless sky. Although animalistic in appearance, they are known for their intelligence and wisdom as much as their raw, uncontrollable power. A Dov's drive for ambition and dominance is unparalleled.
    ~ LORE MASTERS ~
I'm not perfect, and I promise you now, with a series as ambitious as this, I will slip up. I'm counting on the lore masters out there to serve as a last line of defense in my fact checking. If you find a mistake, feel free to leave a correction in the comment section below, and make sure to include a source, or it will be ignored. NOTICE I SAID MISTAKE, not if I left something out, because I will come back to it later. Any corrections I'll be forced to make will appear as video annotations, but if I do my job right this will be a rare occurrence. Oh, and sorry in advance for butchering the punctuation of any names!

I remember the quest "A Daedra's Best Friend" where you talk to Clavicus Vile, he asks you what you wish for and if you answer "Power" he will say "I hate to admit it but you're almost as powerful as me now, but that's because half of my power is in that mutt, Barbas!" so basically you are half as powerful as a near-omnipotent Prince, so you got that going for you which is nice...

"As part of the divine contract of creation, the Aedra can be killed. Witness Lorkan and the moons.
The protean Daedra, for whom the rules do not apply, can only be banished."

While that would be interesting, you have to keep in mind that for mankind, the dragons are almost legend, so much time has passed. But for the dragons, who were killed by man, either no time has passed at all and in their eyes the dragon war is still going strong, or they were aware of every single second they were imprisoned in their own bones, which would cause much greater resent.
If a town is worthy, a Dov might consider employing them for his own use, but for worship they do not care. It would be like ants worshiping you, but from your perspective those ants had literally murdered you a few seconds ago/ imprisoned you in your own motionless bones for thousands of years. The only reason to accept their worship is to use them to fight other ants, so that they both may parish.

it's games like the elder scrolls where you sometimes forget you're playing skyrim and mostly living in the shoes of a character living in a world of conquest and survival. a long time ago while i was playing as a warrior character in riverwood, a really strong revered dragon came in and destroyed almost all the towns folk. it took ages but i was able to defeat it, but at what cost? when looked around, i saw Dorthe standing over her deceased parents, Alvor and Sigrid. the emotion Dorthe expressed tore me inside, i felt like i was really in a real world where anyone could lose a loved one from a monster of the skies. this is one of the many reasons i respect the elder scrolls, seeing that moment forced me to be stronger and bring peace to Skyrim and Tamriel once and for all.

I am going to get the legendary edition for Xbox 360 because I am poor and I don't have next gen consoles, but I want to play the dlcs, I read all about them and they are Awsome, sometimes you forget how detailed and diverse and well designed they make video games and how much hard work goes into making them, not a lot of people like the newer games because it takes away from the game that they were expecting or an entirely different game that they wanted, SKYRIM and Oblivion and Morrowind are all great games and they had a lot of flaws but it doesn't deny the fact that they were still great and detailed games, a lot of people just want bigger, better, non-buggy games but all games aren't going to be how they are told by the developers because they still have a lot of editing and processing to do before release

And extremely inspiring. 100% agree with you. There should have been an option for a longer main questline, where Paarthurnax ends up prooving himself worthy of being spared. In that way the players could finish the game without getting all them feels.

People wondering about how the dragon born didn't consume Alduins soul.
Alduin is a god. Not a dragon. (technically). Therefor the dragon born couldn't swallow his soul.
Also, Alduin is destined to one day destroy the world. It is fortold in the Elder Scrolls. The Dragonborn slaying him was only delaying the inevitable, Alduin WILL return, and WILL destroy Mundus. It's just a matter of how much longer can he be delayed.

but paarthunax refers to him as his "eldest brother". Even if that is because all dragons are children of Akatosh, that would still make all dragons gods. And even if Alduin is an Aedra, he's still killable, just like the rest of them. Does that make Alduin a Daedra?

I remember playing a Argonian (his name was Norok: Fiercest in the Dragon's tongue) who was actually a Dragon cursed by Alduin during the Dragon War (he took sides with the Nords because he wanted to be the dominant Dov) into a wingless and mortal body (Norok lost his ability to shout and all his magical knowledge). When Alduin was cast into the future so was Norok because the curse was bound to Alduin and Akatosh took pity on Norok so he made him Dragonborn. I know it's not really possible but it was so cool role-playing a Dragon.

So peoples were able to win a war againsts immortal, giant flying and magic shouting creatures, but they were unable to defend their dang empire from a group of thalmor extremists. Then instead of fighting the actual enemy or atleast take the time to prepare, they start fighting eachothers. I'm surprised that all the draugrs arn't just rolling around.

+7up0111 The draugr aren't "just rolling around" because they have no energy to waste on such trivial things as mortal affairs. Draugr are bound to protect and tend to their ancestral tombs. It's already enough that they have to wake up daily to sacrifice part of their life energy to their dragon priest/deathlord to keep them alive; asking them to actually leave their burrow on top of that is a bit much, don't you think?

Dragons are all pieces of shards from the Aka. Just like Akatosh, Alduin, Auriel, etc. The bigger shards that had more of an impact on time, when Aka shattered, are the big godly dragons we know as; Akatosh, Alduin, etc. The lesser shards are the dragons we see in Skyrim. They are NOT the children of Akatosh. I know Alduin and even Paarthurnax say they are (I.E. Alduin FIRST-BORN of Akatosh) but hold on to your pants, I'll explain in a moment. Akatosh was cruel like the dragons we see in Skyrim, until some cult did some dance ritual thing that made him the way he is now; preferring man and the Mundus. Auriel represents the beginning, Akatosh represents the present, and Alduin represents the end. Before this ritual, Akatosh let the cycle continue with Auriel creating the cycle of time, Akatosh holding it together, and eventually; Alduin coming to end it to start the cycle once more. But since the ritual Akatosh had a change of heart and from then he decided he wanted to make time actually last (and the fact that dragons were dicks to men, whom Akatosh now prefer) he made the Dragonborn. I guess the DB's could technically be considered his children. Anyways, because of this ritual some time thing got messed up because Akatosh's whole nature changed. Before this, it's believed by a lot of people who know the lore, that Alduin actually is OLDER than Akatosh himself. Because of Akatosh's nature changing completely, it affected time in some way where it was now seen that Akatosh is older. I don't quite remember how or why; but something because of this caused the dragons to believe they were the children of Akatosh, including Alduin. It sounds crazy I know, I might even have a lot of people completely disagree but I believe this is the truth. I've played Daggerfall, Morrowmind, Oblivion, Skyrim, and Battlespire. I haven't played Arena or the other one. I have spent countless hours researching the lore. I have forgotten a lot so there might be small things that are wrong, but this is the general gist of it. (I know the dance ritual thing sounds crazy, but it happened.)

The Nord heroes used an Elder Scroll to cast Alduin into the flow of time. Not even their Dragonrend Shout was strong enough to overpower Alduin. Gormleith died, her brother was on his knees and Feldir had to resort to the Elder Scroll that now rests in Mzark to banish Alduin to the very last age. The last Dragonborn is the one the Elder Scrolls said that one day, they would defeat Alduin. It would've been interesting to add a few things about Miraak as well. He's the first true Dovahkiin, unlike the first Dragonborn empress, St. Alessia, who was given that gift when she was already an adult and that is the only reason why all the emperors and empresses that came after are Dragonborn, without any proof that they can actually slay a dragon and absorb its power. Martin Septim was the last Dragonborn emperor, who turned into, in Sheogorath's own words "He turned into a Dragon God". But it is said that a true Dragonborn is born in times of great need. The prophecy goes as follows:
"When misrule takes its place at the eight corners of the world (I think it refers to the constant conflicts between races)
When the Brass Tower walks and Time is reshaped (Tiber Septim's misuse of the Heart of Lorkan)
When the thrice-blessed fail and the Red Tower trembles (Explosion of Red Mountain, I think)
When the Dragonborn Ruler loses his throne, and the White Tower falls (Death of the last Dragonborn emperor)
When the Snow Tower lies sundered, kingless, bleeding (Ulfric murders Torygg and begins the civil war)
The World-Eater wakes, and the Wheel turns upon the Last Dragonborn." (A second chance at Helgen for the last Dragonborn at the moment of their execution)
On a final note, "immortality" means one can't die, pure and simple. Beheading, incineration... nothing, not even a apocalypse kills an immortal, because they are not mortal. Since dragons can die when slain by a true Dragonborn, or another Dragon, they are mortal. It's a misconception of the actual meaning of "immortal". Just because something or someone is immune to the passing of time, or should I say, ageless, doesn't mean they can't be killed by normal means. As for Alduin, there is no certainty that the Dragonborn actually kills him permanently, since his is the only Soul the Dragonborn can't absorb. A true immortal dragon is Durnehviir, simply because it's an undead dragon. He says it himself. "Trapped between life and death", meaing he will always reconstitute his physical form in the Soul Cairn, should his strength run out. The only way for him to cease to exist is leaving the Soul Cairn for too long, but I guess he ends up there again, seeing as when we call him, he goes back to the Soul Cairn when he's wounded or his "timer" runs out.

    • @Gabdube
      @Gabdube 8 лет назад

Good nuance about the "immortality" of dragons. They are technically indestructible, though. Just not invulnerable. The whole point of absorbing their "souls" is that their essence and power can't be annihilated, it can only be moved somewhere else (much like heat in thermodynamics).
Also, the Dragonborns' soul-eating powers are linked to Shor/Lorkhan, so it makes sense that they wouldn't work outside of Mundus anyway.
Besides, Durnehviir is trapped in a plane of Oblivion where the rules for "life" and "death" are especially blurry; and the reason why you can't absorb his soul is most likely because it already belongs to the Ideal Masters, who control the plane of Soul Cairn. As for Alduin, he is pretty much the embodiment of the End of Mundus, which is literally made out of parts of the Aedra. Saying that "Absorbing it power would be overkill" is an understatement. The whole point was to neutralize it outside of Time, thus outside of Mundus (meaning, beyond Akatosh's reach).

First time seeing the city was leaving a jail cell, missing the whole "city is closed" encounter at the gate. (I discovered another city in a similar fashion, Sanguine inspired drunken awakening in the temple was my first time seeing the stone city)
After leaving Whiterun and wandering out into the dark field I heard a sound I wont soon forget. Peering around anxiously I suddenly heard a epic ROAR which shook my bones. Unaware of the source I looked all around me, sword in hand, until glancing to the sky and watching the wonderous sight of a dragon flying above, circling while loudly and proudly displaying it's sheer power. I stood in awe watching it surprisingly fly off without attacking me. I was fully immersed in a way few games could ever capture.

These dragons aren't actually dragons, they're wyverns, a dragon has four legs, not two. Its pretty common for people to confuse wyverns as dragons.

They are not "dragons" they are DOV , the nords were the ones who gave them that name

    • @ronger97
      @ronger97 8 лет назад

of course of course... but they mean the same thing in two different languages...so to call them 'not dragons' is the same as calling them 'not dov'

Yet there are no Dragons(2 hand,2 legs,2 wings) any were in Tamriel.
On the outer hand Skyrim seems to be crawling whit Wyverns(2 legs,2 wings that double as hands)

Because that is the aspect as chosen by Alduin, the aspect of Akatosh. If he so chose, he could have appeared as a giant cat, and all dragons after him would be giant fat cats.

i hope in later era games we find that the dragonborn of skyrim became so powerful he erected his own empire after talos' an empire that even dragons bowed to

Does the narrator have a personal RUclips for himself or is this it? These readings are amazing and his voice is perfect for them.

The Blades' insistence on the Dragonborn killing Paarthurnax really made me hate the way they were written. They exist to serve the Dragonborn, however in Skyrim the Blade remnants are selfish and short-sighted, and shun you if you don't kill the dragon that enabled mortals to survive against his brethren in the first place.

Thank Clev Damn right, citizen! All the other races have something bad to say about us... but without us all would be chaos. We brought peace, trade, prosperity, enlightment, tolerance and civilization to every corner of Tamriel. And yet we are despised. Such is the Imperial´s burden.

We didn´t side, the Emperor gave in to their pressure... which, considering how Hammerfell handed the Thalmor, might have been a mistake.

Miraak said in your final battle with him that he will kill you and use the dragon souls you have to return to Tamirel, and during the final he calls down his dragon underlings and absorbs their souls to heal himself. Would this not mean that when we as dragonborns kill dragon we take their souls but they are stored in us and when we die someone who is versed in manipulating dragons can take the souls from the body, confirming the dragon souls are indeed eternal

That's somewhat true. "Dov" refers to Dragonkind, "Dovah" refers to the actual dragon, and "Dova" is the name of the language.

Shoddy I'm such a huge fan of these videos that you put out I just can't stop watching them Hahah. Although it would be super cool if you did some lore videos on vampires and how they came to be or werewolves. I think those are good topics to research

The first vampire was created by Molag Bal. Werewolves have ties to Hircine.

It does mention in a journal during the Imperial Legion story line of Skyrim (not sure if you can get it on the Stormcloak side you probably can but I always went with the Imperials) that the Thalmor supply the Stormcloaks.

Such a nice detail of you guys to use that phrase... The Skyrim trailer still gives me goosebumps.
