I really appreciate how you made me feel confident. You explained it really well and covered the precautions. Thank you from a single mum in the UK
Dinah Dufton You're welcome, Dinah, I'm glad I was able to help! :)
Thanks Leah! I'm a crafty girl/DIY artist who is trying my hands on a blowtorch for the first time ever! Reading the instructions AND watching your video has made me confident enough to not be scared, that this is outside my skill range!
How hard can it be, even for us handy-women to learn! ;-O
All the best from Denmark!!
//Natasha
Hey Natasha, thanks for writing, nice to hear from you! It sounds like you will be able to handle the torch just fine.
Best instructor ever!
You sound and act like a natural teacher. I hope you work in education because I think you have a great talent for that.
chanthien99 thank you so much, that is very nice of you to say! :)
Leah your videos are the best! Everything is well explained.
Ma'am, you're the best 👌💯🙏
Thank you for the informative video!!
Great job never used one before now I know thank you ❤
Thanks for this demo. I used to have no problem but 2 years ago and again today, I could lit it. The trick is that you don't want to open the gas flow too much, else you smother any attempt to lite the gas. So I just cracked it as she shows here and it worked first try. I guess I knew that when I started to use these but had forgotten.
Very articulate and thorough! I have been wanting to see a good instruction video on this forever and I found it with you:)
Thank you! I had to flip through a few videos before I found yours, but yours was /exactly/ what I needed!
I just watched your video on setting up a torch and it was awesome. Thank you!
Nice video! Can you advice about proper storage? Once one places the torch in the canister it should remain there? For how long can we keep it once we start using it? Can it be under the sun on a hot day? How can we safely dispose of them? Thanks for your time!
I just asked for this explanation on another one of your videos and here it is. Absolutely what I was hoping for. Thanks for the great tutorials. I'm subscribed, and will be checking out more from you. Take care, and have a great day!!!!!
+demofactory you're very welcome, and thanks!
This was very helpful! Thank you!
you hear that should be your slogan just sounds so awesome
Thanks so much for this!... Metalsmithing here I come!
Thank you so much. I have just got one of these for silversmithing and felt a bit scared to use it after hearing stories of them exploding etc. I feel more confident now
I second this comment.
Nice video -very educational, so thank you. But anytime you do or suggest something, explain to folks why. Case in point, why do we need to attached the torch with the canister in the upright position? I have no idea why. It would have been nice to see you taking the torch off the canister for a complete video (you know, full circle kinda thing).
Taking a guess that everything is seated squarely when you put the torch on the canister in a vertical position. Good point though why? Should always be addressed in educational videos especially for beginners
Reply to Jane re: where to purchase a torch head: they are available at all home improvement stores and most hardware stores, so it's best to shop around for the best price, as the ones designed for MAPP gas can run you between $30 and $60. You can also buy online through the See Jane Drill tool library on our website. Be sure that you buy a MAPP gas torch head and not one that is strictly for propane..
Thanks! I had one of those valves that leaked. Couldn't turn it off. Scared to unscrew it. Tossed it into a field to leak out. Not greatest solution, but wanted it as far away from me as possible. Upgraded to something like yours. Doesn't pay to buy the cheap versions of these.
So beautiful 🙏🏿
Building trades instructor, journeyman!!! Wow!! No wonder you can clearly instruct in your videos..
🙂
What is the little valve for on the gas canister shoulder? ... My guess is either pressure release or refill?
Nice work!!!
Should I be worried about carbon monoxide if I am doing this inside? Your video is very helpful and reassuring, thank you!
Thank you!!
thank you leah
To not check your torch for a gas leak is absolutely dangerous. I say this with authority, having been both a journeyman and a building trades instructor.
seejanedrill It makes it all wet and soapy! Can't you just feel or smell it?
The smell is so strong, can't you just use a sniff test?
The fitting to the tank has a rubber gasket seal that seals off the gas only brass on brass fittings require you to check for leaks with soapy water... make sure you dry off everything before using the torch
Suds test? NOOOO...! MAPP gas is one of the strongest odors of all torch gases so sniff the air. Plus pouring water on the torch before using it is more dangerous on the MAPP Gas Turbo Torch because of it having a different type air flow setup than the common brass torch. I even prefer the simple brass torch (even with MAPP) over any high dollar Gas/Air Torch because they last forever unlike plastic and I have modified the valves to have full use for better flame precision and custom tips that'll allow propane/air to burn hotter than that cheap plastic tip allows MAPP to get. Hell there's Butane-Air torches that get hotter than the plastic safety hazard.
Thanks for your effort, I really got the confident of doing it on my own.
Elancheran T.S. You're welcome, and thanks for commenting!

Hi Miles, you can store it safely in your garage, or in any cool, dry place in your home.

Jane: I'm just getting used to my mapp gas torch for enameling jewelry and the tank just ran out. I didn't save the little cap. What do I do...I'm such a chicken, but I guess that's a good thing when it comes to safety.
I don’t care I just press the button and aim
