    Hi Andy!
I have a new small residential Hunter system with an XC600 X-core controller. I'd like to add a moisture sensor. I'm looking at feature differences of Baseline and Soilclik but not seeing much to compare contrast. I watched your video, reviewed your website and comments below. I understand the advantage of "no homerun wire". But my controller is very close to the valves so not a lot of advantage to not have to run the extra wire. Are there any other significant differences between the Soilclik and the Baseline? Do they work equally as well?

Hi @benchmarkimaging8293 - if you have spare wires, you could use them the Soil Clik instead of running new wires. There are pros/cons to both. The Baseline sensor will be more accurate due to the technology used in the sensor probe, while the user interface on the Soil Clik is definitely superior. The Baseline sensor also has a calibration feature that will help you properly set the sensor threshold after install - and you can see that actual soil moisture percentage - the Soil Clik does not display the percentage.
For accuracy I would choose Baseline.

@benchmarkimaging8293 Fun fact, the Hunter Soil Clik is essentially a private-label version of the Irrometer Water Switch, found here: www.irrometer.com/landscape.html

How do I know if this works with my in ground sprinkler system

@NJTrain - great question. The S100 Moisture Sensor will work with any controller that has a common wire. This essentially means any existing controller, not matter how small or large, except for 2-wire controllers. The S100 soil moisture sensor works by interrupting the common wire so that power is not able to reach the solenoid. By interrupting the common, the unit is able to track the last time the schedule attempted to run, but was not allowed. There is a small learning curve, but it is not difficult, and you could decide to install the sensor just to take readings, but not allow it to pause the watering. -Andy

What’s the advantage of using these sensors over the Hunter sensors when running a Hunter controller ?

    • @Andy_Humphrey

Depends which other sensors. Always install a rain sensor, even with a soil moisture sensor. This sensor is designed to keep the system off until the soil drys out (vs. turn it off when it’s raining).

Thanks for the reply !! I was thinking of the soil clik sensor to get the right feedback in the UI.

Got it! The biggest advantage is that the Baseline sensor does not use a "home run" wire going back to the controller. You wire it into the closest valve, and it is able to send data over the field wires, back to the controller. Kinda like wireless, but not wireless. It sends data over the wires..

Let's say I live on a 2 acre lot, do I need I only moisture sensor for the whole area?

Perhaps, it really depends of the complexity of your landscape. For larger, more complex landscapes, there are larger control systems available tht support up to 25 soil moisture sensors. Feel free to reach out if you are interested in learning more. -Andy

Man, youd think some company would make this for residential customers who want multiple zones that have its own moisture sensors. Are there any product like this? Ranchio has a faq that says it can use multiple sensors, but i cannot locate one example of it in use.

Agree. We’re getting closer! Check out the new MOEN controller being released soon…

@@Andy_Humphrey I did and I was excited... Until someone said that it requires a monthly subscription 😞. $70 for a sensor is steep to have to pay a subscription to keep using it. Hopefully, my information is wrong, and someone will review it... Hint hint 😉

@micahcrumpjr - I can't wait - I ordered the MOEN controller at CES in January and it is yet to ship. Look forward to reviewing it...Hint hint.

Have you ever come across the capacitive soil sensors won’t work properly in a tent because of the lighting system interfering?

@drjeffmorris that’s interesting. Can you explain more?
