Can i replace my old Hunter sprinkler heads with the new MP heads. it's underground Hunter system and works great though. I bought a new X-core controller for it.
No disrespect.. but for anyone who is concerned enough about their lawn to even be considering an irrigation system, overall this would just be a waste of time and money not to mention aggravation. Now if your looking for a temporary solution that's only going to be used under special circumstances OR your just broke & handicapped then maybe ok for you. Also, anyone who's in the service side of the business knows these MP rotators only look good on paper, in the real world they never go the distance. On sloped grades they have there place but still fail way to much, so do the krains, so do the Toros, the rainbirds are slightly more trustworthy. If your lawn is small and isn't concrete hard and your physically capable, you can install a much better official in-ground system by hand using hose bibs, 1/2" poly pipe and a 10" Wilton slit tool, obviously you must zone the system and head count based on volume available.
I just recieved 8 mp stakes. I have used 6 mp3000 and 2 mp2000. My water pressure from the spigot is 40 PSI (municipal PSI is terrible, I don't even have a pressure valve on main supply). I’ve been in the lawn sprinkler business for over 30 years. I’ll be honest I only made it 3 minutes into this video. I was just torn between “do it yourself, or do it right” type of mentality. As a home owner and a rental property owner I think I can confidently distinguish between “form vs. function”. Yes it works … but it seems like this is a solution for someone who’s time isn’t as valuable as I would consider mine. Just think I’m the long run it’s worth getting a system installed professionally and doing the minimal maintenance.
With the confidence that Hunter guy has I'm sold I don't even need to see the product that is a solid surface of what you're doing no doubt no question he knows
I bought one MP-Stake kit to test. I don't know 'scientifically' if the lawn got a better watering, but sure worked better than the other endless big box stores' leaking-rusting-non-working sprinklers. Will buy some more and see if in one year my crabgrass looks healthier LOL.
Awesome, water...then tear it all down when you mow once or twice a week. I've used the Rainbird DIY system with great success. Just trench and insert the tubing in the ground.
I don’t see the difference between this product and a normal run of the mill sprinkler. Your still using hose that would need to be moved when mowing and moved to prevent leaving a burn Mark on the lawn from the hose if left in place when not in use. Also your not going to be able to attached more than probably two of those sprinklers off one hose line. You need to account for length and size of hose along with water pressure in order for more than one of those sprinklers to cover properly in order for it to work like an underground system works. Seems like fluff to me. Installing an underground system is an easy diy job if you put a little effort into it. Just my opinion.
Water pressure, flow rate, hose length and whether such a setup would be able to sustain more than two units at once also came to mind as I watched this. If I'm limited to 2 units based on available water pressure and flow and I follow the recommendation that both spray back at each other, then the largest area I can cover at a time is 30 square feet. That requires moving both units and hose multiple times to cover my roughly 4,000 sq ft lawn. That's simple enough to do, but it's not quite the "set it and forget it” solution presented. No shade, simple truth. Since you mentioned it, do you recommend any specific resources online or off to reference/consult for installing sprinklers myself?
Sounds like you could learn a bit more about pressure regulated sprinkler heads. I've set up many systems and they work great if designed properly. Yes, they have more than 2 heads. We have 20 gallons a minute flow with plenty of pressure where I live. Some simple math will yield a viable set up.

Looks like a pain to setup and more complicated than it needs to be. And the expense is nearly the part cost for a sprinkler system if you do the digging yourself. Similar battery operated valves don't last more than a season from my experience. But most important is you need to zone out your lot since you can only run a few sprinklers at a time. Better to just get a standard zone timer for $40, sprinker heads, pipe, and do some digging.
you need a hammer arrestor between the valve and the timer, otherwise the bluetooth ones do fail more quickly due to the surge of sudden stops and starts.
I don't understand how this is better than using standard underground sprinkler parts available at a low price with wide variety and high quality everywhere. It's a lot more expensive, fragile, and more difficult to service though so I guess there's that.
Excellent stuff, I'll have to reference this video periodically for those asking about above ground setups...also, this really makes me want to swap out some of my rotators, the ones that seem to be clogged a bit. 😂
Barely getting into the home stuff but we're learning a lot as I go this seems like a lot more of a DIY project than say you know irrigating your whole sprinkler system yourself and digging up your lawn now if this is something you wanted to do for a permanent fix how would you go about setting it up I know garden hose probably isn't the best for long-term pressurized use on a timer like that what would you use to permanent above ground or permanent use of that pressure without any leaks for the future from the garden hose and taking up a spigot
Great video. As a DIY guy 😂 I can’t help myself. I just built 10 Rainbird 1800’s with the 360 rotator heads for a total of $5.18 each a couple weekends ago. With average water psi I can run up to 5 at a time from 1 hose. I also took an old 100ft hose and converted it into 10ft hoses. I haven’t seen the price of these but I’m doubting they come close to that. Getting Excellent coverage Us DIY folks are OCD af. Especially if it works as good or better than store bought AND we can do it at a fraction of the cost. I also built my own in-ground with 6 Rainbird 5000’s easily covering Over 10,000 square feet with garden hoses a 4 zone and 2 zone timers for barely $350. Works pretty damn good.
Question about distance (at about 4:40). If they throw 25' and you put them 25' apart, isn't that 100% overlap or double coverage? Am I understanding this correctly?
Works great! But not with my well pump. Live in country and have a well. Had thoughts of water gently sprinkleing on my lawn....it does , but it only has enough pressure to push it out a few feet. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Where I live u can’t use a filter as the stuff in the irrigation water it plugs in 2 days. So u remove the filter and away u go. The stuff in the water passes thru the nozzle. Can u remove urs without any problem ?
I've preferred Hunter over Orbit for sprinklers lately, but their plastic all-in-one valve timers won't last nearly as long as a timer and valve body setup. I've used the combo units on rental properties and had them crack and leak after 2-3 years, where the in-ground valves hold up much longer. I have yet to find a timer I like more than the Rain Bird that has run about ten years. I don't even think they make them that good anymore. Tempted to build and program my own.

so every time i cut the grass, i take it all down. then reassemble. then re-align the rotators. no thanks.
@@pbrooks4040 exactly what i thought.. single woman with big yard, and dragging those hoses back up for the lawn mower guy UGH NO
I don't understand how this is better than using standard underground sprinkler parts available at a low price with wide variety and high quality everywhere. It's a lot more expensive, fragile, and more difficult to service though so I guess there's that.
Great video and information! Thanks so much
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent stuff, I'll have to reference this video periodically for those asking about above ground setups...also, this really makes me want to swap out some of my rotators, the ones that seem to be clogged a bit. 😂
Thanks man, are you using the diy builds?
@@PrincessCutLawnCare no, I have the inground rotars. Pretty sure it's the hunter rotars too, cant remember off the top of my head.
I like the DYI comment not respecting people trying to do stuff themselves knowing nothing about what they are doing
🌞Cool setup. Think those would stick in my concrete like red clay? 😎 Great video! 👍
Thanks man, they stick in my hard clay soil, just gotta finesse it a lil bit only needs to go it like an inch or 2
Outstanding 👍👍👍
Thanks raul!
That was interesting and good price point!
Thanks Brian, I don’t get excited about products often but this is a gamechanger for the community
Problem with back orders. We are in a drought and the delay to get the MP stake is 10+ days.
Does the package come with Kevin? He knows his stuff and loves how he explains the new game changer!!
haha kevin is the man, always a fun time having him on the show
I was given enough 2"x20' scheduled 80. If I wanted to run that above ground along the fence line, would that act as a manifold? Would it work?
I have for over 35 years made my own sprinklers from rainbird sprinklers and 1/2 inch pvc. Esay to make
Great video. Getting Excellent coverage
Us DIY folks are OCD af.
Wow how long did it take and is it above ground? what is a good 4 or 2 zone timer TIA
.....but.....you have to have city water pressure level, or one big kick ass well pump!
Question about distance (at about 4:40). If they throw 25' and you put them 25' apart, isn't that 100% overlap or double coverage? Am I understanding this correctly?
Sprinklers and dunks??? Hell yeah
Stylin boi!
@@PrincessCutLawnCare I dig it!!
Johnny Sins is a lawn care expert too? Noice!!
how long does it have to run before you could measure 1/2 inch or 1 inch of rain?
If they are laid out in head to head coverage the application rate is .4 -.5 inches per hour
Kevin needs his own channel. Probably could learn a ton from him
He’s working on it, I’m showin him the ropes
@@PrincessCutLawnCare Sweet. Looking forward to it.
Stay tuned. Thank you for your feedback
@@BattistoniTrenchTalk if you want to run a pump off a rain barrel, it needs to maintain 40 psi to operate?
Nice setup. If I didn't have an irrigation system, this is how I'd do it
Thanks brotha
Kevin reminds me of one my MCRD drill instructors lol
Thank you!

Do you have a new link to buy this package? I know I'm a couple years late but this system looks really great. Thanks for the video!
How many of these can you string together and still get good flow?
Depends on your water output most can do 2., we can do 3
Why’s he looking at me like that?
inferiority complex
Works great! But not with my well pump. Live in country and have a well. Had thoughts of water gently sprinkleing on my lawn....it does , but it only has enough pressure to push it out a few feet. Any ideas would be appreciated.
If soil allows, could i push this almost all the way into the ground so that it sort of looks like an inground sprinkler?
Sand soil leveling tomorrow and seeding on top of that…..mp rotators are ready to go. WHAT IS YOUR PREFERRED WATERING SCHUDULE?
4 times a day, 10-15 min per zone
Ps. Congrats on the leveling project, it’s gonna look awesome
Starting and ending at what time roughly? Just daylight hours?
Dyi kits are the best!
😂
Nice video! I do like that mehlnor one too
8:12 Why is the guy in the jump suit staring at us with an angry face?
lol dont mind him, hes not used to being on camera
That my happy face
Very interested in this for Spring ‘24. Having trouble figuring it out on their website. Is it something a contractor has to come do for you?
