Never thought about how an oscillating sprinkler worked, just knew they were $15 at Walmart. It's surprising how simultaneously simple and complex the engineering behind it is.
Oh damn, i always wondered how these worked after seeing one in action at my parents' yard. Kind of amazing how handy they are, being able to water in rectangles instead of circles, like most common sprinklers.
Only watched 2 videos and Im already craving for more. Love the production value and your way of explaining makes it so easy to understand! Can’t wait for next upload ❤
Very nice video. but I’m slightly confused. When I click on the creator name and look at the channel information, it says “4” videos. (but there is currently only “2” videos there now)
@@MikeCee7it looks like RUclips is counting shorts as videos. At this point the channel has 4 full videos and 3 shorts and the counter in the channel description is 7
The fact that you have 11.9K subscribers from just two videos says everything there needs to be said about their quality. I always wondered whether there was actually a computer inside or some kind of pressure- or touch-sensor that somehow changes directions, but this design is both interestingly complex and beautifully simple. Very educational, nice animation, meticulous explanations: Please make more!
I woke up this morning, turned youtube saw this and said to myself... Yeah, I do want to know how a oscillating sprinkler works. Instant sub keep it coming
The main object of the oscillating sprinkler is cooling down kids in the summer though. Even water distribution over a set area is secondary. Great video! :D
Yooo this channel is going to blow up ive been looking for reverse engineering videos for sooo long to help me with my super small scale manufacturing processes.
That's amazin', rasin. I remember seeing these sprinklers in other people's front yards as a kid in the late 70s and early 80s and wondering how they worked.
Dude! Just watched both you videos, I need more!!! I’m sure production time is high with all the animations but we need more!! gosh dang I swear this channel is going to BLOW UP! Keep up the good work, can’t wait to see what else you dive into!
Thank You sir for the educational and informative video. I never really knew how a lawn sprinkler worked, but I would have never guessed it was such a complex machine. Keep up the good videos. Have A Good Day Sir! 🛻🚤🏖️
Please do one that shows how mechanical recoil works with a person throwing an object on a frictionless surface, then a catapult or crossbow. Then show how this demonstrates the Law of Conservation of Momentum. Finally, you can show how the Law of COM applies to rocket propulsion and how rockets don't need anything to "push off of" in a vacuum. Your videos are so good you could do a really good job of making things clear for others.
I was today years old when I found out sprinklers have a drain plug and cleaner instead of just needing to get drained back out through the fill/spray holes

Nice work. Sprinklers are much more mechanically complicated than I had imagined.
The video was one day old when you set this comment. I imagine it will get there.
then watch how gas nozzle works at gas stations.
@@abhishikt I know, there so complicated!! Let me quess, you watch Steve Mould?
Today is the day when I learned about the drain plug that can have an integrated pin for clearing the holes on top!
Simple, clear, straight to the topic with all the supporting animations. Gosh, I wish there were more content like this on RUclips
I watched this in 1.75x. Never in my life did I think I would understand how a sprinkler works in less than 3 minutes. This video is gold.
Never thought about how an oscillating sprinkler worked, just knew they were $15 at Walmart. It's surprising how simultaneously simple and complex the engineering behind it is.
I'm 43 years old and I just know learned that there was a nozzle cleaner built into the end of the sprinkler... Thank you.
You've answered a life long question of mine rather beautifully.
Fascinating!! The ingenuity that went into that is so satisfying to see. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
I waited my whole life for this video.
I love automated mechanisms that don't need electricity to work. Excellent job with both the animations and explanations, keep it up!
Oh damn, i always wondered how these worked after seeing one in action at my parents' yard. Kind of amazing how handy they are, being able to water in rectangles instead of circles, like most common sprinklers.
Very much like Jared Owen's work. Fascinating stuff
May the algorithms overlords cast good fortune on you.
Excellent Content, good luck on your videos
Simply complicated and brilliant. It's easy to see why we take some things for granted.
Huh, I never knew that end plug came out!

@@ArturVerdiev Ok, Thanks for the info.
Only 2 videos so far. I’m here for it. This is why I’m on RUclips. Your videos are amazing!

Clever bit of engineering packed into a simple water sprinkler.
I woke up this morning, turned youtube saw this and said to myself... Yeah, I do want to know how a oscillating sprinkler works. Instant sub keep it coming
Finally! After years of thinking and forgetting the question, the algorithm suggests this video to me.
I love how much technical data you have for something i can buy for $4
The main object of the oscillating sprinkler is cooling down kids in the summer though. Even water distribution over a set area is secondary.
Great video! :D
Words of someone who doesnt have a garden
Well demonstrated and clear to understand.👍🏽
I absolutely love videos like this! It turns something that feels like magic into mechanical genius and simplicity in my mind
I never imagined that my water sprinkler was such an engineering marvel.
This channel is what happens when the CG budget is well spent and the voice narration rivals the quality of WW2 era training videos.
I love these videos, because they get me thinking about how I might use these principles to create things. They're also generally awesome. Love it.
Very well done video. Feels like the old "how its made" days but on how things function rather than how its made
I always wondered how these worked. Thank you!
I didn't know i needed this knowledge. Thank you for solving this half a eternity old mystery. 🤗
Yooo this channel is going to blow up ive been looking for reverse engineering videos for sooo long to help me with my super small scale manufacturing processes.
My life is now complete. Thank You.
This had me wondering for years. Thank you!
The animation and the description are both perfect. Thank you!
Perfect format. Thank you.
Finally, a channel where I get to satisfy my two most prominent needs: 4-8-8-4 and oscillating sprinklers
No way this has 1.1k views, it deservers at least 1,000,000. I thought it had that many views until I saw the 1k this actually has.
We're here early, did you see his bottle jack video? This dude is gonna have like 50m views
7.2 now,
10,402 now
Comments like these are really aggravating.
@@Jack-vo7yfWhat kids do is they emulate comments that get a lot of likes.
I love stuff like this. The casual genius of everyday items that you never see or think about (unless you're me!)
Excelent video.
The oscillating sprinkler was invented by Norman Seidel, in March 1955.
Love this honest content ❤... no clickbait title... it says it in the title and then explains it clearly with helpfull animation... new sub!
Continue like this and you will be the next Jared Owen!
The best 2 a.m. content
The impact arm sprinkler is pretty neat too.
If you go ahead and never stop uploading, I'll go ahead and never stop watching!
Some pretty clever people figured out how to make that sprinkler.
well demonstrated video. deserve a sub.
such a lovely mechanism
That's amazin', rasin. I remember seeing these sprinklers in other people's front yards as a kid in the late 70s and early 80s and wondering how they worked.
I did not know i needed this video, but apparently i did
Bro deserves way more subscribers. Good job!
I appreciate that!
Thank you! 😍 Finally, now I understand that mystery 🥳
Very clever mechanism!
I was wondering this for years, thanks!

What an excellent video thank you.
Easiest subscription to a channel I have ever made.
Keep it up, and thanks for the great breakdown!
Just found your channel, subscribed. I love learning how things work. Thank you!!
Gut gemacht!
Very well done, thank you very much!!
Great animations, showing all important details!
Also: Clear and concise.
This is really high quality content. I appreciate all the work you put in.
Been using an oscillator for years. This is the first time I ever realised the end cap has a nozzle cleaner built in to it.
Best place to watch your video 👏👏
Excellent CAD and animation work. I have several of these and have never taken one apart (but I will now :-) ) Great explanations.
I had always wanted to know! This is perfect!
Super cool, waiting for next deconstructed video. Great work
This is *really* good! Reminds me of Jared Owen's work -- which I absolutely mean as a compliment.
great video! surprisingly complicated mechanism albeit easy to understand
That's a lot more parts than I expected. I'd think some sort of double piston design would be much easier and cheaper to make. Patent pending ;)
Thank you!
What a great explanation, thanks 👍
This was informative and interesting.
Thanks
Your videos are awesome. Please make more
Interesting, my first thought was that the gearbox switches, but bistable water diverter is much simpler and more clever
Dude got the lame thing to cover in their engineering class but made the best damn presentation in the whole class
More! Do one for automatic gears next!
Thank You sir for the educational and informative video. I never really knew how a lawn sprinkler worked, but I would have never guessed it was such a complex machine. Keep up the good videos. Have A Good Day Sir! 🛻🚤🏖️
Very cool!! Amazing video
Two vids both extremely good. 👍
The animation and the narration are so pleasant, subscribed!
This is going to be a great channel!
Such a cool video. Perfect animations, no bullshit talking, nicely explained
Excellent
Very well done video. Instant like and sub
Great explanation. 👍🏾😎 Thx
Keep making videos these are soooo detailed
Thanks, will do!
very educational!
What a well made video, good stuff!
Very cool. Great job. I hope to see more.

Wow. The animations and explanation of this video are all so well done. It is well paced and informative and interesting. Great job!
Keep up the good work!
Thats amazing!!!
got a feeling that simpler versions exist but nice animation :)
