    The Ransomware Remediation might rely on some cues from the behavioral protetction, some delayed execution or memory analysis to do its thing. I don't really know, but these results look really good to me, considering that in an even worse case scenario that the three layers fail me, I have onedrive backups as a fail safe for the important stuff. Bitdefender is speedy and it doesn't annoy me as much as Kaspersky does with notifications and popups, nagging drives me up the wall!

Kaspersky basically has better detection rate with far lower false positives than Bitdefender. Kaspersky has better zero day protection as well and its lighter on system. ESET and Kaspersky are the only paid ones I'd ever recommend anymore. For most people Windows Defender is more than enough.

    Ransomware remediation works the same way in all AV products that aren't backing up to some external system. It uses shadowcopy to restore the file to the previous version. This will not work on systems where shadowcopy is disabled. This will also not work for most current strains of ransomware that deletes the snapshot.
    In my own testing, one really impressive feat of bitdefender that I found is their pre-execution analysis. The test case was pretty specific, a custom program that behaves like ransomware. In my testing, bitdefender was unique in analyzing the code and blocking it's execution before even the first line of code ran.

    Use a layered approach to PC security. Bitdefender is a fine program, but nothing is perfect. The average user should be doing regular backups using something like Macrium Reflect to keep some recent good images that can quickly be restored if need be. Make sure to make USB rescue media in case the PC won't boot and save backups to an external unplugged drive. I've had Macrium Reflect save my butt a few times, not from any virus or ransomware, but from buggy updates including windows updates. At any time I am only ten minutes away from putting the computer back to a happy place in time and all is well again.

    If read a lot of comments here and some people are talking out of their a$$. I've been using bitdefender (4 or so years) for quite awhile because i can get such a good deal on their family plan but i have slowly started to stop using it. I think the protection is pretty good but it has one major flaw memory utilization. I eagerly upgrade to each new version to hope they made some improvements in this department but they never have. Recently i looked at the utilization from both a Mac & PC perspective (2021 version). I had it using well over 1GB on both a Mac & PC. If you are just using it on your own machine and am not worried about memory usage then you are good to go. I run lots of virtual machines with dynamic memory and it lowers the number of VMs i can run. Leo generally recommends 3 AVs: Kaspersky, Bitdefender, & Sophos Home Premium (SHP). SHP is kind of heavy on memory too but not nearly as bad as bitdefender. Kaspersky is generally very good with memory utilization (< 200MB unless you are slamming the system). I see people saying kaspersky is heavy but i've never experienced that on either mac or pc. Eset has great definitions and PUP detection (but if your hit with a 0 day then their behavior blocker SUCKS) and on PC their memory/cpu utilization is awesome (generally < 50MB). Though not so light on a mac (kaspersky is lighter).

      He did it to let a ransomware run, and try let bitdefender block the actions the malware was taking, rather than just blocking the known application itself.

    Bitdefender Total Security vs. Windows Defender in 2021?

  • @samwalker_dc
    @samwalker_dc 2 года назад

    Not even a minute into the video and I can already tell I would never get this software. It has the same issue that Avira has and why I stopped using it. I'm talking about the fixed size of the GUI. Most of us are using 1080p (or bigger) monitors these days, but these companies limit the size of the GUI to a small percentage of the available screen space. I can only talk in terms of AVIRA and customizing settings/rules for every application were a huge pain in the a**, because of it. I would hazard a guess it's the same in this one.

    I recently stopped using BD after subscribing for a year. They sent me an email with a "renewal offer" that was 50% higher price than if I just went to their website without a referral. I felt this was a shady tactic and when I emailed them saying as much they said sorry but we do offers. It was a non-response. So sod them. They lost my money. Plus you really have to go through a lot of clicks to say you don't want to auto renew and you don't want to be reminded.

    No, I am pretty sure this is a language misunderstanding caused by Bitdefender. I guess it is just some kind of protected folder, like in Windows Defender, everything one puts in there is safe, because the ransomware gets no access in there. They used "remediation" instead, which looks like something "active", but it is an essentially passive operation.
