That was the best video, I love it when you both run through how you did it. Also, keep the bullbar that's a true Dad bus, and the car is wicked cool. What a vibe. Keep it coming.
brilliant episode. Enjoyed the break down and simplified process of upgrading/servicing an old rig. I personally prefer the non-sponsored upgrade vids. Helps us relate to builds
Small thing but I’m so happy you’re teaching people the right way to solder bit of a pet peeve of mine when people go the other way 😅 killer video boys!
13:55 When doing a service I suggest running the vehicle up for 5 or so minutes to heat up the oil which makes it thinner and much easier to drain the oil but remember it will be warm but it shouldn’t burn you but be careful just in case.
Gday, this turned out cheaper than I expected, my thoughts on Bullbar or bumper, well the bar is period correct and it’s on there so I leave it on, it suits it really, top episode mate, cheers
You can keep the rear seat to with this type of setup too. You can use a Z folding platform with ply and piano hinges to make the bed area with the seats folded down. Also form ply is far to heavy 9mm marine ply is more than adequate or on a budget 12mm CD ply. Either way love the old 60!
38:56 - a small rubber door stopper from bunnings can be used to keep the drawers open when they do that. Keep in the drawer to wedge in the rail and first/front bearing.
such a fun build! +1 for the bull bar and scrub bars, they're so iconic👌now just need to find some of those zero offset steelies and some pizza cutters
Another thing when changing oil filters is make sure the old filter seal comes out before the new one goes in. Also when jacking the rear or loading a trailer put it I 4x4 that way the front is locked in and when rear comes off ground the front will hold it from rolling
I say mod up some mozzie proof screens for the back windows so you can get some ventilation while you sleep 👌 I remember being in one that the old man had as a kid! Fingers crossed its not a lemon, my Hilux I got for a bit of camping or whatever even though I got it professionally serviced blew a cylinder #4 with only 182k km, was gutted!
great video with helpful saftey tips, i always give my car a shake test when ive put it on the axle stands to make sure its all stable. also another great tip if you live on your own is get some beers and some makes round i almost dropped a gearbox/flywheel on myself which could of been nasty now if works abit dodgy ill get someone round haha
If it's 50-50 I'd leave the bullbar because it's functional and means you can have a winch. Plus, new wheels and tyres are better for sure, but those white steelies really suited the retro look. Maybe paint the new ones?
Sneaky request fellas: Would to see you boys get a hold of one of those Superior xtrack converted n80's. Would be cool to see what they can do. Get on it 😂
Fun fact for you young legends, those Mongrel tyres are reforms made by a company called Motorway. They were cheap as like 20 years ago, a Simex style tyre for us broke wheelers. Man that howl brought be back to my hood rat days driving Zooks through Menai.
Good one Mac! I think it is great to appeal to the next generation of folks getting into wrenching and off-roading. Nice basic build, couldn't ask for much more to get out and have fun.
@@macpreston absolutely! for anything not 4wd, always chock the wheels. On patrols lifting one back wheel with the handbrake on can have the same result, as the handbrake is on the tailshaft and the diff will just spin. Ask me how I know that one...
19:50 I can answer that! Diesel oil is significantly different than gasoline engine oil. They have different additive packages for the different contaminants left behind after combustion that are absolutely necessary.
Hey mate, you can use the exact same gas struts from the boot on the bonnet. Absolute game changer as you don’t need the arm to hold it up. There are already threaded holes ready to receive. Pm me if you want exacts on how to do it
OMG that Xplod head unit made me feel old. Had exactly that in my first car... an Imported 1988 Pajero 🤣🤣 I also learned to drive on the classic blue 60 series... so much feels in this video (mostly feeling old but yeah... nostalgia!)
Keep the bar until you go off the budget. Then….. Lose the bar, KMC’s, engine swap, flexi boy lift, paint it black and make it the Dad bus’s crazy uncle. 👌🏼 Keep it up boys. P.S. we all know TJ kept his head unit in his smoko box during the day 😂
one thing with 60 series rear drums they can adjust themselves when you use the hand brake regularly so every now and again jack your rear wheels up and make sure wheels spin freely you can release them from a little hole that's covered with a rubber and also your gearbox can push fluid from the transfer case to the gearbox we use to put a hose connection that would keep it flowing back you would be able to look it up and the tappets will tighten down if running lpg
Bloody awesome job fellas. Gotta leave the bullbar on. You didn’t consider going to kickass products? They are locals to you fellas as well. But all in all another ripper 👍🏽
Would love to sell my ranger and get one of these. Dont know how reliable it would be as a daily though. Can you provide insight or would you recommend taking such a risk?
Mac is pretty good with the Mechanical side so if you have a few basic skills with engines and electrical gremlins , you should be fine , but i reckon I would have trouble with this one haha
Wait I’m running the same shocks in my 75 which both shocks are suited for a 3 inch lift on both an 80 and 79, the 79 shocks are 10 inch travel tho there for a 3 inch lift, why are your 2 inch lift shocks 10 inch travel too?
There's a few extensions needed for best performance - the owner's pen*s, the sway bar links 26:15 are hitting the axle, brake lines 27:59 are gonna rip off when the car is jumped, and a 19mm bush is easier to fit into than a 16mm, just sayin'. 😆
Love it, fab build series, so funny that you muck about , not too serious.....apart from safety, ive done a similar injury & can defo confirm......dont rush & be careful. dislocated thumb & shoulder stitches in the hand & loss of feeling in 3 finger tips.......lol makes holding screws a challenge but hey its a lesson learnt, love you guys & the banter , keep up these vids , a big hello from great britain
Ford ranger/bt50 draining oil for too long and seizing the motor is a myth. Done hundreds of them and left them drain over a lunch break and they’ve been fine and got oil pressure straight away. No difference to removing and resealing a sump on one when you think about it
Pwwoahh macca forget the k truck, this is my new favourite car on channel!
Haha it is pretty bloody cool !
Haha I’m not gonna lie I’m really loving this wags!
That was the best video, I love it when you both run through how you did it. Also, keep the bullbar that's a true Dad bus, and the car is wicked cool. What a vibe. Keep it coming.
Thanks so much 🙌
As someone who is new to doing mechanical stuff, I definitely appreciated the instructions, thanks!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks
I've owned plenty of 60s and I love the look of bumper over bullbar Ive down graded to a 40 series now lol
How did he connect the bumper to the side rails?
brilliant episode.

Small thing but I’m so happy you’re teaching people the right way to solder bit of a pet peeve of mine when people go the other way 😅 killer video boys!
Haha , TJ here and yeah , I must admit I didn’t even realise the right way to to it 😂
Stories like this just make my heart 3 sizes bigger
You two do great video 👍 Cheers for the mid week entertainment
Thank you 🙌 more to come
Head unit removal was nostalgic as
😂 only us old guys will get it 😝
13:55 When doing a service I suggest running the vehicle up for 5 or so minutes to heat up the oil which makes it thinner and much easier to drain the oil but remember it will be warm but it shouldn’t burn you but be careful just in case.
Thanks for the tip !
Great tip! Thanks sooty!
Love the Facebook market place story so true keep up the good work boys
😅 bloody rough round here 😂
You should leave the bull bar on
Gday, this turned out cheaper than I expected, my thoughts on Bullbar or bumper, well the bar is period correct and it’s on there so I leave it on, it suits it really, top episode mate, cheers
Thanks Matty ! yeah it could go either way with the bar hmmm
Cheers Matty! I’m very torn and it’s not really an easy job to just see what it looks like 😂
You can keep the rear seat to with this type of setup too.

Ahhhh pro tip !
Legend!! Such a sick idea!
thanks mate for explaining every step in detail, really helps people like me just getting into the mechanical side of things.
Glad to help!
Leave the bullbar looks mint
such a fun build! +1 for the bull bar and scrub bars, they're so iconic👌now just need to find some of those zero offset steelies and some pizza cutters
These are 0! But i know the ones you are talking about and the look its amazing!
Great vid fellas I say keep the bar work suits it and cheers for all the wiring tips Ive learned so much from your channel 🤙🏻
Another thing when changing oil filters is make sure the old filter seal comes out before the new one goes in. Also when jacking the rear or loading a trailer put it I 4x4 that way the front is locked in and when rear comes off ground the front will hold it from rolling
Please get rid of the black sunraysias and go back to the white ones, looks so much better and period correct
The certainly did look good hey !
Black wheels on a 60 makes it look like a P plater special. They suit modern dual cabs but not old classics.
I’m actually insanely jealous of this build….. I have wanted a 60 for the longest time 😂😂
It’s very fun !
It needs an 80 series chassis though!!!
@@RICHYSUNCLE mate coils all round for sure

You might be able to mod those slides on the drawer to add the out stop.
Might have to!

Definitely good tips having some one around and the shake test before a wheel comes off I do the same haha

Plus, new wheels and tyres are better for sure, but those white steelies really suited the retro look. Maybe paint the new ones?
Yeah the white actually really suited it hey !
Yeh I’m considering swapping these tyres into the white rims!
Sneaky request fellas:
Would to see you boys get a hold of one of those Superior xtrack converted n80's. Would be cool to see what they can do. Get on it 😂
Yeah I see them parked at superior and think the same thing 😂
Hey mate can you post more on the ranger if you still have it. love the build
Hey mate ! That was a giveaway car sorry , the New owner has it in Dubbo NSW 🤟
Setup looking mint! Might grap myself one of those new tee's
🙌
Check you power steering reservoir, Toyoda power!
Great episode keeping it real for the upcoming kids or people just starting out and keeping the old school cool rocks
Coupla typos in this one 😅 sorry bout that
Run the bumper!! Love the 60!
Fun fact for you young legends, those Mongrel tyres are reforms made by a company called Motorway. They were cheap as like 20 years ago, a Simex style tyre for us broke wheelers. Man that howl brought be back to my hood rat days driving Zooks through Menai.
Haha love the history thanks Dirt monkey! They are bloody aggressive tread pattern 😂

Thanks mike!! I agree, i was still surprised how much it added up to!
@@macpreston Nothing worthwhile ever comes easy....or cheap!
i think the bumper would look better because i think itll suit the more classic look of the car
Leave the bar I think it suits it well
Re. Handbrake and jacking back wheels. If you put the car in 4wd (lock hubs) and in gear you can do the back end in one go still.
Definitely! But for the young fellas who cant afford a 4x4 yet i think its a good tip!
@@macpreston absolutely! for anything not 4wd, always chock the wheels. On patrols lifting one back wheel with the handbrake on can have the same result, as the handbrake is on the tailshaft and the diff will just spin. Ask me how I know that one...

Agreed!
Wild titan draws are nearly 1k here in nz crazy how cheap they are in aus
Yeah must be a shipping issue going on
Just love this ❤ (prefer the original bumper tho... dont you reckon?)
I do coz it shows off the single headlight model! But the bar looks sweet to haha
Great video, thanks guys.
Thanks !
I wanna see this thing end up as a retro styled flex monster. Everything looking factory but just hiding some crazy shit underneath

Use you tailgate as a table replace the carpet with some smooth ply sand it back a bit then get some food safe coating the you’ve got a table

You can fit 6×9s in the front doors in the front doors on the 60 👌
If you keep pressing the display button on that head unit it will show the battery voltage.
Bloody awesome job fellas.
Gotta leave the bullbar on.

We actually went in to grab and AGM battery of them and they said it is not ideal to run them under bonnet due to the heat 🤟
Cheers mate! Yeh as Tj said i planned to buy their battery wich is were i learnt cant run under bonnet! The fella working there was a legend!
