You should do an actual budget build that most of us views could afford. I'd say no more than 30k for the entire build car included. No sponsors no extreme DIY.. just a down to earth budget build that we can relate and aspire to :)
That’s the plan to begin with! Until I can no longer help myself! Got some plans for down the track but atm just keeping it budget friendly the k20 has taken all my money 🤣
All a 60 really needs for off-roading is a decent 2 inch lift, some good 33's and lockers. They go just about anywhere. Have had 5 of them now. Drove my 61 around Australia last year without a worry the whole trip. Epic cars really.
Absolutely, mine was the daily for 550k been all over Oz, never let me and the family down. Even though I have had and driven a lot of different brands and models since, nothing make me say, I bloody love that thing and it's never for sale .. full resto in the plan and the kids have called dibs, when I'm gone😮
I had a 60 2h. Braught it defected on the side of the road. Had 820 thou on the clock and not a panel was without rust. I stripped it, bogged it, primed it, sold it to a mate who painted it and put it back together then my dad braught it and owned it for a few years, got it up to 890 thousand ks and sold it again to another mate and is still running to this day. Toyota tough baby😏
Love the buy. Had a 82 model back in 2000. 4 speeds and Diesel. Went everywhere. The centre overhead console is aftermarket but period correct. Tint the windows, chuck a rear locker in it. Then send it. 😂🎉
I bought a 1985 FJ70 SWB in Taliban tan back in about 2005 for 4 grand. No rust, she was beautiful - wish I didn’t sell her! Anyway, I was driving down the highway one night and found the hand throttle… not being able to see what it was or what it did, I fucked around and twisted it as far as it would go… not really realising the accelerator pedal was slowly winding down lower and lower… as my exit came up I took my foot off the accelerator and panicked when the car didn’t slow even a bit! It took about 4 exits for me to figure out which way to unwind and then finally turn off my hand throttle. Super scary but hilarious once I knew I was safe!
would love to see the 60 keep the leaves and see how much flex it can get on them and after the build, it would be sick if you guys did a across Australia trip in it.
Lop the top off that front bar and try to push that rear bar a little tighter with some trimming. You'll need the rear 1/4 protection unless you plan on lifting it to the sky. Keep it Dad wagon spec inside with retro mods. Ie. Rear platforn and engel (old school green if you can find one on mktplc) lockers and 33s maybe a 1hz + turbo down the road if it lags behind the LN.
Weld the rear diff and go bash around for a few months TJ's LN. Take it off the road once the K truck is done and put it on coils with some Dana 30's (cheap as around Vic with arb lockers (sub1k for both with lockers). You already have 2 big power 4b's, save the engine build coin and put it into the suspension.
Great buy Lad's what a weapon. I'd throw a platform with mattress in the back and an ARB Slide out kitchen under the bed accompanied by a Draw fridge beside it.. Neat and Tidy. 😉😉😁😁
@@macpreston I saw the ARB pull-out kitchen and loved it, Pulls out flips over, Great design macca, I'd love one on top of my Black Widow Draw system. And the Draw fridge is a great low profile unit.. But 80ltr upright fridge is a Game changer 😉 😉
Nice score, it pretty hard to find a 60 without rust. I picked up a petrol 60 Sahara for my daughter, the bottom is pretty rust free but the roof needs lots of attention. I did notice your was puffing a little grey smoke so you might be doing an engine swap sooner than later
Welcome to the 60 family Mac. This video right here is proof that random people will come up to you and tell you how cool your 60 is (the guy on the bike), how they used to own one xx years ago and they miss their old 60, how reliable they are, how getting rid of their 60 was the biggest mistake that they ever made, etc etc. I don't know if this happens with other 4WD's, but it's happens to me all time with my 60. I was once driving through outback SA in the middle of nowhere when a police car drove past in the opposite direction. A few minutes later, I looked in my rearview mirror to see the police car with their lights flashing to pull me over. I stopped and asked if everything was alright to which he replied "yeah, it's all good, I just wanted to check your 60 out" 🤣
Run a single motor highmount under passenger side of the tub on the 106. Run winchline forward along chassis rail. Airfree spool and run a 24v setup in the front of the tub.
I’m an Irishman living in uk but been here 15 years, have a few old Land Rover, and a few extreme ones too, love your content and the Aussie way of Toyotas and Nissans, but Land Rover’s are the top of the 4x4 food chain, will send some pics of my vehicles soon, cheers and keep up the good content
Nice I just resurected an 88 FJ62 hadnt run since 1996, The only thing I knew about it was motor turned over, went thru fuel system, Electrical and ignition, brakes, de-smoged, it's running well now. This thing's got huge tyres on it 35x12.50-15s with stock gearing(its a dog in my hills) and a SPOA lift. Tyres have to go.. Just scored some rims and I had 4 -32x9.50-16's from a Ford Diesel F250 i had as spares. I never thought I would be back into Yotas as there so pricey here bought this rig in Melbourne... Arkansas USA!
Dual cab extended 70cm with rear doors that open onto tray or camper tilt tent,2,8 deisel conversion, and coil front end ,with a simple cheap coil kit conversion
That's such a clean 60, it'd be a shame to do TOO much to it. Keep it leafs but hit up Terrain Tamer for some Parabolic springs, and do it up like Dan's Patrol from Aussie Arvo, keeping the vintage look with a few modern touches. If you were going to engine swap it, an era-appropriate Chevy V8 would sound sweet.
Damn Boys! You never cease to surprise. What a clean LC, didn't think such an example still existed anywhere. One of the few vehicles we got in Canada. The LN is flexy sick! Yeeeew

A 20k build should be a breeze. I wouldn’t of spent more than 6k on my 4Runner including buying it.

I ran a 60 series for about 13 years one of my favourites, now I have the 79 series and I love it
Love the 60! But please don't coil convert it! Maybe do parabolics but the leafs all round give it character!
Leafs are iconic 🙌
Wow, that is mint! Original old-school genuine decal down the side and a couple of surf boards on the top and she’s ready ❤😎
this is awesome you look absolutely Stoked at getting this, look forward to watching the build develop when you get to it

Holley Snyper EFI kit. Basic suspension,

Haha spot on ! And yep the LN106 hiluxs seem to have the same effect 😂
the "33" 's look great on the lux. 60 is mint, just put lockers in it and leave the rest, gas included.
Undertray winch mount with rope guides through to the front of chassis would be ideal on the LN
Yeah few people have said the same 😎 might be the go
The tyres on the 60 are a retread (they call them a re mould ) they do a side wall as well they are where bad for blowing out
How did you get a RW on 10+ year old tyres and 10+ year old LPG tank?
Run a single motor highmount under passenger side of the tub on the 106.
Run winchline forward along chassis rail.
Airfree spool and run a 24v setup in the front of the tub.
That sounds wild! Defs an option!
@macpreston , twin motor 24v highmounts are wild, single on 24v is perfect for a hilux.
Go watch some winch truck racing and you will see
That's a top notch build for its day. My votes for the engine sitting in the shed would be 1vd, LS or old school chev
