As soon as Hop's team sensed RJJ didnt have the same swag he usually has, BHop started living in his head rent free.
I lost a lot of respect for Bhop after this fight. He faught dirty the whole fight while he was up on points the entire time. Shows a complete lack of integrity for a champion of his caliber.
@@IAMCAMO904weight lost wrecked him. Tarver boxing skills was trash and his only highlight was closing his eyes and hitting Roy. Proof Bernard dominated him
Hopkins is a living legend, you can't take that away from him. However, during the mid 90 ' s Roy and James Toney dominated the middle, super middleweight divisions. Hopkins peaked and the other two had moved up to different weight divisions. None the less they have all achieved greatness, but I understand people's opinions as they have their favorites. I would have stacked it in this order, 1) Roy Jones 2) James Toney (my personal favorite of all time) 3) Bernard Hopkins
Also Toney and Hopkins had a lot longer longevity still winning. Roy got older started getting kod a bunch of times. Toney and Hop were much more successful in their older years than Roy.
Yea bro, I can agree to ur top 3 picks.. I too was an avid fan of Toney but Roy has always been right up there for me. Peace n love to you sir, an greetings from Australia , way up North.♥️☮️
rjj in his prime had a speed and power combo that was incredible. Toney was great too, great defense. Of all the 'greats' I've never really found Hopkins all that fascinating to watch. Too much clinching, not enough precision punching for my tastes.
Lol, second round: "That was a lead right hand that backed Roy into the corner". Yeah... what about the DAMN HEADBUTT? Hopkins lead right hand followed by that intentional headbutt is something else. He truly mastered it.
zues2013 That's not a very good theory. All black fighters don't fight the same; not even these two fight the same every time, just sometimes, both of these fighters will throw an entire fight away (like the first time they fought). Since styles make fights, it's probably not a good idea to put two highly defensive fighters against each other.
zues2013 how can you say this was a boring fight? especially after the melee that broke out after the low blow and both boxers ignored the bell-were you watching a different fight?
Not going to lie, Roy Jones is one of the most elusive fighters in almost any period...that being said, many fighters can juke one another, however the chin on a fighter is the most serious formidable outlook

Paul Harvey yeah im sure any "half decent" MMA fighter would love to hug on the ground with a boxing great. Boxing is a striking sport, not rolling on the ground grabbing each others balls for 3 mins. Tyson in his prime would 1 hit KO any MMA figher out there

Knocking dudes out with bodyshots breaking they ribs he beat all the greats in his era yeah after a while he took random fights that's bc there was no one to fight !!! The only reason he lost to tarver was bc he just won the heavyweight title and drop weight and step into a big match to fast if he would've waited we wouldn't be talking about a Hopkins 2 in less it was a title fight so in my book Jones is top 10.
+Catherine Joy Bernard wsd indeed a dirty fighter and this rematch was pointless after so many years..it should have happend shortly after the first fight
Roy was a physical freak and his peak was defined by his reflexes and speed. Hopkins was the picture of discipline and craft. Much like Toney, his peak was defined by his wisdom and experience.
@@joetursi9573 they fought in '93 when both were young, Jones won. They fought in '10 when they were both old, Hopkins won. If they had fought in say, '99 or '00, I think Jones wins easily. He was just so fast I don't think Hopkins could have done much to catch up with him.
Not Hopkins' finest moment. He had the win in the bag in terms of better technique. He did not need to indulge in all the fouling, Roy Jones was only retaliating and rightly so since Weeks was not protecting him. As a BHop fan, this fight was a great disappointment and you have to think that emotion - 17 years of it all bottled up - got the better of him on fight night. I think he was scared of losing to Jones Jr again, so pulled out every trick in the book even though he really didn't need to.
Exactly. Well said. Hopkins was an embarrassment in this fight. Was obvious he wasn't confident in beating Roy with boxing alone, so he did every dirty trick he's always done in one fight. Very disappointed and I'm sure if he's honest with himself, he himself will regret 'winning' this way.
+Geo... What is really shameful is how everyone kinds of says it with awe about a "rough Philly fighter" who knows "all the dirty tricks" I guess if nobody is going to call you on it, more power to you!
Roy Jones could've been a retired undefeated pound for pound great if he hadn't moved up to heavyweight. The weight cut back to Light Heavyweight ruined his career. He came back to Light Heavyweight with a piss poor performance en route to Majority Decision against Antonio Tarver. He then fought him in a rematch and got brutally knocked out. It's sad to see him now. Retire now Roy. You had your time.
+Dimitrije Dk I was with Roy's camp in this fight (you can see me toward the end of the vid I had tears in my eyes) and I'm also in some shots at the weigh in. Going in to the fight, I had concerns Roy would not fair well. Here's the deal: Hopkins is a bitch,. In their prime when it counted, Roy beat that ass. Hopkins aged better and so decided to go around and bully guys close to his age who whipped his ass back in the day, so fuck him. Second, I teared up a little because I knew that was it for Roy. It wasn't because he lost, it's like when your favorite athlete plays his last game.
No if's, Roy went 50- 0 so very easily could have retired the greatest ever no questions asked (and still did IMO).But he's not about that (like some boxers today). The books show 49-1 but everyone knows from an ass-beating perspective he went 50-0. Roy wasn't feeling challenged so wanted to do things that nobody had seen i generations (if ever). He truly did much of his (post 50-0) activity for one reason: to save try and save boxing He felt it was dying as a sport (and it was) and I ll never forget him saying (a few months before Ruiz fight) how he realizes people were doubting him but it was drawing interest and that's what mattered to him (and meant every fu*king word of that). Oh, and beat that ass too. One thing I can tell you, he wasn't hurting for money. At all. He is just very competitive and there was nothing wrong with him going down swinging. Lots of MFers cherry-pick and sit on that record. Roys old skool.
I wish so badly that Roy would never have tried to cut that weight from Heavy back to Middle to fight trash Tarver, He destroyed all of his fast-twitch muscle fiber and his speed was his gift and his edge. My Fav fighter of all time right behind Iron Mike. Hurt my heart when he got knocked out, never should have happened. Still the Best Roy!!

I love how people say Roy was past his prime, but not Hopkins, even though Hopkins is like 5 years older than Roy. You see that's the difference, Hopkins didn't rely more on his athelticism than his actual skills where Roy relied more on his athletic abilities, but as you get older they all fade away. Thats why Hopkins won, his style can be boring, but more effective and that's what matters
Roy at his best was very difficult for a conventional fighter to deal with, which is why Hopkins & Toney couldn't cope with prime Jones. When Jones lost his athleticism he only had his experience & cunning left as replacements, & sometimes, like here, it wasn't enough.
Can't compare the two in that aspect. Hopkins played it safe in fights throughout his entire career and is also an exception to every rule physically. The man is the biggest example of an anomaly if there ever was one, which is why they call him "the Alien". That being said, last time I checked, B-Hop didn't cut 25 lbs of solid muscle that would've permanently ruined his punch resistance, taken away his legs, and diminished his athletic ability like it did Roy. Age isn't necessarily the main factor in determining who's the least far past it. Jones' career after that 25 lb muscle loss is proof of that.
It sucks when age is the difference in fights its only natural after so many fights or so many years everyone wants to see both in their prime fight Bernard is a great boxer and so was Roy jones jr nothing bad to say about either .
Roy Jones didn't look that hungry in this rematch, it seems like he just took it just for the hell of it. I wish he would have been more active and engaged more, throw more punches, etc., because I know very well he had the skills and capability to really hurt Hopkins. And what's with the dirty tactics from Hopkins? Its funny cause Roy Jones took them dirty shots very well and was able to brush it off and not make such a big deal of it, but when he did them back to Hopkins, he reacted like a bitch lol.
@Marshall L Smith Reminds me of Ali a bit and a lot like Holyfield. Ali an actor because he was too scared to fight for the nation where he earned most of his cash, Holyfield because he cheated, no matter what it took, to win or hold onto a title. Once Holyfield ran into Lennix Lewis, Holyfield couldn't get close enough to clash heads.....although he tried.
That’s the only way Bernard could’ve won...and I know he knew that. Roy’s the real champ, never backing down or waiting on anybody...I would watch a Jones fight over a Hopkins fight any day. Hopkins is the most boring hall of famer ever...
Everything said about Hopkins' behavior was spot-on. He was a cheap-shot artist and a drama queen. Thing is he set the tone and dominated this fight. Overwhelmingly disappointed in Roy's lackadaisical effort, nearly zero offensive production or pressure. No truly memorable punches or flurries. incredibly poor performance.
@Dedrick ‘Dooky’ Gobert did Roy stay disciplined and make 20 title defenses in one weight class? Did Roy become the oldest person to win a major title 3 different times?
in his hay day Roy Jones was vicious man, but once he got put to sleep by weak ass Tarver it was a wrap after that still one of the greats and could of possibly been the greatest right after Ali had he kept winning
Roy Jones should have never dropped 25lbs of muscle just like that, and considering he was in him mid 30s,that ruined him. Same fate happened to Tarver when he fought Hopkins.

two legend of the sport for sure,Roy Jones no doubt in his prime was the better fighter, but when you think of his amature pedigree that is hardly surprising. what made Roy so good is his athletic ability as soon as that faded so did he. Hopkins came up the hard way he found boxing while in prison, then went on to rule the middleweight division for 10 years. before becoming the oldest man to win a world title at 46 and again at 48. then became the oldest man to unify a divison and now if he can beat kovalev he will be the oldest undisputed champion in boxing history and as far as im aware the first person since holyfield to become a undisputed champion in two weight classes thats what makes hopkins a legend
Actually, what makes Hopkins be capable of fighting at such age is the fact that he never had an amateur career. Fights are fights, doesn't matter with you have headgear on or not. That's why guy with 300 amateur fights don't last much, because they already wasted some of their tank in their amateur career.
invisiblepker Umm no he didn't. Get your facts straight idiot. He tested for something called Ripped Fuel one time, which is an OVER THE COUNTER supplement. Never, ever took steroids.
It's quite common for on the counter supplements to have been mixed in the same vats as the companies used to make steroids in and not clean them properly which taints them. It's the argument they're using for Jon Jones in UFC now.
Yes it did, Hopkins took that Easter Bag & showed (or proved to) the boxing World who needed the contents inside. The only thing the fight didn't prove was there was no title on the line, probably neither was looking to regain one, rather settle unfinished business. Hopkins evened the score.

Charles Tilley no it didn’t, it’s a old Roy, look at his last fight, maybe if Hopkins would’ve did this the first time or even in the 90’s via rematch then it would, but rn, shit doesn’t mean nun 😂😂
Charles Tilley I like both fighters, but Roy Jones at this point was damaged goods. He had been clocked, knocked out multiple times already prior to stepping in the ring with Hopkins in 2010. Meanwhile Hopkins hadn’t gotten knocked out at all, barely even gotten clipped bad up until this point. And you can say Hopkins reached his prime at a much later age, he knocked Trinidad and Oscar out and he was nearing 40 years old at that point, everything was in Hopkins favor.
Bernard was faking to be hurt just to rest up, but he initiated all the low blows and hitting behind the head shots. I always thought Bernard was a dirty fighter and sneaky with it.
This rematch meant nothing, it should've happened at least 10 years earlier when they were in their primes and it would have meant something Take note Floyd and Manny...
You’re a fuckin dumbass and it shows both of these niggas were past their prime wayyyyyyyy past this second fight took 17 years Roy beat him in both of their primes

It's been a few years since I've watched this fight, and this time around I was honestly surprised by how competitive it was. Although I don't think Roy won the fight, he did much better than I gave him credit for in the past. I also noticed that Hopkins' head movement and timing was really on point. Likewise, Roy must've landed at least 50 right uppercuts while they were in-fighting that I didn't notice the first time around. Even so, I doubt any judges were in a position to see those shots, if they were significant punches at all. Finally, It's hard to respect Hopkins' victory here because of all his fouls, and claiming to be "seeing spots" in the post-fight interview. I know that's part of his style, but how could he tell himself he truly bested Roy when he behaves this way. What a disgraceful end to an otherwise solid performance.

Among the more fascinating and strange boxing matches of all time. Hopkins is characteristically a dirty fighter but he's tactical about it, represents the reality of getting away with something on the line as it is in life. He's a reality. Jones always was a clean fighter, a darling of the press and opposes Hopkins in style as well, with a more panache and pizazzy way which is unique to Jones. In the first Jones Hopkins fight, it was apparent that Hopkins had stamina and savvy to disrupt Jones' natural rhythmic dominance in the ring but at that time, not enough. With this amount of time having gone by, it is clear that Hopkins staying on his path in his weight division, refining and polishing his own style, honing and crafting himself into a superior version of himself through experience with less of an overal physical loss from his age. Jones on the other hand went through four weight divisions, was splintering into basketball briefly, developed a musical career, etc. This is impressive in its right but the contrast is similar to others since Jones began to condition himself beyond his natural weight! Before Tarver, he had to gain and then suddenly, drastically lose for Tarver. Jones discussed how it was 'very difficult' for him to make the weight for that fight, and in my opinion Jones *was never able to regain his stamina* after jumping around and out of his true weight division. It appears to have permanently diminished his endurance, and with his effusive, wild, spiritual (in my opinion) style it created a deficit for him to become effective as before in the ring! Thus it is possible that if Jones had re-invented his style to be more classical or in fact, almost anything to adjust to his new physical condition then he would have created greater odds for himself in the last phase of his career. Jones is so amazing, so athletic, so talented and beyond words that he's still impossible to really upset beyond points for the stronger, fitter and more in tune Hopkins. Hopkins loses for being a dirty fighter to make his point but Jones took more damage. Even in their careers, they are a bonded pair.

I think you got thrown into a media hype train, there was nothing exceptional about Roy. Not one thing. If there had been, in his 2 biggest fights (both wins) while in his prime versus the 2 best fighters he ever fought (while in their primes) B. Hopkins & J. Toney, the whole world would have seen and remembered "exceptional athleticism"! Yet, nobody remembers those fights, nobody gets together with a group of friends to re watch them. They were both boring fights. Bernard was a real one though, his career does have some very impressive moments. Roy Jones Jr. is one of the most overrated fighters ever!

@george delairre
You sound like a girl. At that level fighting dirty is done by all fighters. Taking 15 mins was to slow Roy down so he can't gain the momentum. Roy is used to stalking, and around the 3rd and 4th round, Bernard was walking Roy Jones down. As soon as Hop's team sensed RJJ didnt have the same swag he usually has, BHop started living in his head rent free.

So much of Jones' greatness was his speed and reflexes, and once he got older and started slowing down he could never quite adjust.

Horrible fighter to watch
Roy Jones was always been a class fighter
Hopkins is a living legend, you can't take that away from him. However, during the mid 90 ' s Roy and James Toney dominated the middle, super middleweight divisions. Hopkins peaked and the other two had moved up to different weight divisions.
None the less they have all achieved greatness, but I understand people's opinions as they have their favorites. I would have stacked it in this order,
1) Roy Jones
2) James Toney (my personal favorite of all time)
3) Bernard Hopkins
Also Toney and Hopkins had a lot longer longevity still winning. Roy got older started getting kod a bunch of times. Toney and Hop were much more successful in their older years than Roy.
Well, Hopkins became champion in what, 1995? From that moment on, he certainly did dominate the middleweights.
Ok, I agree with your line up.

All black fighters don't fight the same; not even these two fight the same every time, just sometimes, both of these fighters will throw an entire fight away (like the first time they fought).

Hey I have to thank the person who put this video up good quality viewing and the sound was superb
And if my Aunt had bollocks she would be my Uncle.
He truly did much of his (post 50-0) activity for one reason: to save try and save boxing He felt it was dying as a sport (and it was) and I
ll never forget him saying (a few months before Ruiz fight) how he realizes people were doubting him but it was drawing interest and that's what mattered to him (and meant every fu*king word of that). Oh, and beat that ass too. One thing I can tell you, he wasn't hurting for money. At all. He is just very competitive and there was nothing wrong with him going down swinging. Lots of MFers cherry-pick and sit on that record. Roys old skool.
Roy is in his prime right now imo
II KML II Shut the fuck up. He's 47 Bro. How can you say that?
Jones had lost it years earlier. Nothing left to offer here.

This fight should have took place in 2002, not in 2010!
Why?

Its about the prime. Not about who got fight older. At there peak Roy won.
Why do people think it's losing weight that fucked Roy up? He has a young man's style it's really as simple as that.
BoyDanny93
It sucks when age is the difference in fights its only natural after so many fights or so many years everyone wants to see both in their prime fight Bernard is a great boxer and so was Roy jones jr nothing bad to say about either .
Roy beat him in their primes !!!
Its funny cause Roy Jones took them dirty shots very well and was able to brush it off and not make such a big deal of it, but when he did them back to Hopkins, he reacted like a bitch lol.

two legend of the sport for sure,Roy Jones no doubt in his prime was the better fighter, but when you think of his amature pedigree that is hardly surprising. what made Roy so good is his athletic ability as soon as that faded so did he.

It's quite common for on the counter supplements to have been mixed in the same vats as the companies used to make steroids in and not clean them properly which taints them. It's the argument they're using for Jon Jones in UFC now.
This fight proved nothing
Yes it did, Hopkins took that Easter Bag & showed (or proved to) the boxing World who needed the contents inside. The only thing the fight didn't prove was there was no title on the line, probably neither was looking to regain one, rather settle unfinished business. Hopkins evened the score.

Charles Tilley I like both fighters, but Roy Jones at this point was damaged goods. He had been clocked, knocked out multiple times already prior to stepping in the ring with Hopkins in 2010.
Yes, you said it all Bernard was full of it.
Hopkins carried Jones in this fight. If Hopkins really wanted to, he could have KO'd Jones.
I understand giving it to Hopkins, but that score was bogus! Roy didn't push BHop enough to take the win but those judges should be FIRED.
Bernard Hopkins has a promising acting career as well as being a great boxer.
TWO LEGENDS ! BID OLD NOW BUT STILL HUNGRY DOGS ! RESPECT
Roy Jones beats Hopkins every time I’m his prime👍🏽 BET THAT @bhop
T0PSECRET Roy Jones can’t box lol. Go do some research because you sounding real crazy right now.
T0PSECRET No disrespect dude but you have no clue what you’re talking about. Let me remind you because ya’ll must’ve forgot! Hall of fame boxer. Olympic silver medalist, middleweight champ, super middleweight champ, light heavyweight champ, heavyweight champ. Fighter of the decade for the 90’s. I could keep going. Sure his style was unorthodox but he was gifted. One of the best pound for pound boxers of all time. Had a career good fundamental boxers dream of. So to speak of him as some random average fighter is not only ridiculous, it’s insane.
T0PSECRET Obviously you don’t know what you’re talking about speaking as if he still got something to prove. You mentioned you box. I suggest doing some research on Roy Jones and his accomplishments as a boxer. See if you can top that. Doesn’t matter if you think his style is flawed.
T0PSECRET Lol. You should care about accomplishments or else what’s the point unless you’re just doing it for fun. His legacy was already set throughout the 90s. Like I said he was fighter of the decade. Roy should’ve retired in 2004 for real. He fought BHop again in 2010. You know what happens to boxers fighting past their prime? They lose. And 22-5 record from 2005 - 2018 is actually damn good for a boxer way past his prime.
@T0PSECRET "when did he make his legacy" dude wtf are you even babbling about
I've always felt like B Hops looks for the grab first, the punch second.
Roy Jones is the BEST!!!
👊😎

He can no longer make 154...
***** I'm a big BHop fan but lmfao at him. Cmon man that's so delusional of him, I've seen the video though. Would possibly be the worst fight in terms of excitement EVER.
