I was there my dad took me to the Garden I was only 8 years old. I was in awe of Roy Jones Jr, it looked like he was made of steel. He was cruising for the majority of the fight, respect to Trinidad for showing heart and going down swinging. I remember the Puerto Ricans came out and showed him a lot of support, they were going back and forth with the black guys but everybody showed each other respect in the end. The atmosphere in the Garden was electric that night.

As a Boricua, I rooted for Tito… all the way. That being said, I knew Roy would win the fight. Jones is an undisputed champion and confortable at that weight. He has faced extremely tough contenders, and won. But one thing for certain: Tito fought valiantly amid Roy’s power. The knock down, very common for Tito to get up, and most cases knock the other guy out. He did not win this one, but he lasted the 12 rounds!

Tito, like Oscar during that time, never backed down from a challenge from fighters in their prime. Mad respect to him even after the loss.

Roy Jones was far from his prime. Tito either washed out by this time or those controversial hand wraps is what made him stronger then he was bc that’s what he was known for.
