    • @fromthesidelines
      @fromthesidelines 7 лет назад +4

      They did make several joint appearances on "THE LUCY SHOW" at the time. And Lucy wanted Carol to star in her own sitcom, produced by Desilu. Carol, however, graciously declined her offer, because she really wanted to star in a weekly variety show of her own (which she did, beginning in the fall of 1967).

    Two of my favorite comedians. I wish they would have made some movies together. They were great together. I'm just sorry we don't have anything like that anymore. People today don't know how wonderful and fun these shows were. It's a shame.

      Loved seeing Lucy and George Burns on The Lucy Show - she was 55 (looked beautiful) George was 70. Their skit together was similar to Burns and Allen skit, then they did a song and dance number together - one of my all time favorites.

    Chutzpah (pronounced /ˈxʊtspə/) is the quality of audacity, for good or for bad. The word derives from the Hebrew word ḥuṣpâ (חֻצְפָּה), meaning "insolence", "audacity", and "impertinence." The modern English usage of the word has taken on a wider spectrum of meaning, however, having been popularized through vernacular use in film, literature, and television.

    Lucille Ball was fine for stuff like this, but she should in no way have tried to carry an entire musical.

    • @LJ-ht4zs
      @LJ-ht4zs Год назад +1

      I don't agree. I loved Rosalind Russell in non-musical Auntie Mame and Loved Lucille Ball in the musical Mame - she talked/sang her tunes (same as Rex Harrison did in My Fair Lady and he won an Oscar)also Lucille had a serious injury to her leg two years before, where one leg was broken in 4 places and still was able to dance her scenes.

    • @dmnemaine
      @dmnemaine Год назад

      @@LJ-ht4zs The difference is that other than "I've Grown Accustomed To Her Face", the Higgins songs in "My Fair Lady" are patter songs that can easily be performed in the singspiel style that Rex Harrison used. I've always thought it was a shame that we get Rex Harrison's talk singing for "I've Grown Accustomed To Her Face" which has such a beautiful melody, but Harrison's way of performing Higgins was perfect for that character. Mame, on the other hand, is intended to be sung by a powerhouse singer, not a non-singer doing singspiel. The talk/sing style just doesn't fit the character in the same way that someone really belting out the tunes does. While Ball was fine with the dancing and to a certain extent the acting, it's Mame's huge musical numbers that are really the centerpiece of the show. Lucy just couldn't handle it, and it was to the film's detriment.
