I met Lucy by accident while going to school in Los Angeles. I stared at her and couldn't talk. She just patted my back as if I was choking and caused us both to laugh. She was very much a lady in person. I'll never forget it.
Carol has spoken extensively about Lucy being her hero. They are both legends!
Seeing Lucy and Carol's friendship is just so touching. Carol clearly idolized her, but Lucy never acted greater or untouchable. So much love between the two of them!
In addition to Lucille Ball & Carol Burnett being Great friends, Lucille Ball taught her a lot of her Comedic Genius. Ironically, Lucille Ball passed away on April 26, 1989….in which 04/26 is Carol Burnett’s 🎂
Lucy so happy it was Carol coming out made me so happy. What a beautiful friendship!!
Lucy, Dinah and Valarie are gone, but always will be remembered ❤️✝️🙏
2 of the funniest people American tv has ever produced. My childhood was awesome having Lucy on just about everyday and Carol on Saturday night.
Lucy really loved Carol... who wouldn't.. Carol has never let her enormous fame and success go to her head.. neither did Lucy..
Yes, I worked with Carol.. and met Lucy many times.. edgy we might say nowadays.. LOL
Brent Edwards great comment! Honestly, pretty rare for RUclips! Thank you!
Lucy was a true visionary. She had a gut-level sort of 6th sense about what worked, and what wouldn't work. I would guess the people who didn't quite get her particular genius were the ones who were the most frustrated with her.
She was around 65 here and still absolutely stunning.
Lucy woud call her "kid."
Only Carol is still with us. RIP Lucy, Dinah and Valarie
If you compare Lucy's demeanor and body language here to other interviews, you can see just how much she absolutely adored Carol and vice versa.
So true! I don't think I've ever seen Lucy exude so much joy toward another person in an interview. Her guard is completely down with Carol, which is a rare thing for her.
You can tell how much Carol and Lucy care about each other. They must have had a marvelous friendship! Glad I got to see this. A whole different era- Love Dinah Shore, but Lucy and Carol made this show!
I remember when I was in high school and was in the drama class and auditioning for the plays. In 1987 I had the lead in the school play, I sent Carol Burnett an invitation and a ticket to our play. I was copying Vicki Lawrence hoping Carol would discover me. One day I received a telephone call and it was from Carol's personal assistant. Carol was acknowledging the invite. Carol couldn't make it. She was filming a movie with her daughter Carrie in Hawaii. Carol's personal assistant then told me that Carol thanked me and wished me the best and to break a leg! (show biz talk) I couldn't believe it. Carol thought enough of a high school student to RSVP. I was in the same age group as one of her daughters. I will never forget that! I am glad she couldn't come cos' I would have been a basket case like Carol was when she first met Lucy. It was ok that she couldn't make it cos' I would have died from a heart attack!! And I didn't have an understudy to go on for me if I had died. LOL. I grew up with the Carol Burnett Show in the 1970's. I still think back to when Carol had her personal assistant call me and I love Carol even more!!!! Not many famous celebrities would have done that. ♥♥♥♥
Luann Wilson neat story!
That is a great story!
It's nice to know somebody so famous could still be so accommodating and humble.
Vicki Lawrence was great as "Mama" for that "Mama's Family" (sitcom). Valerie Harper (was "Rhoda" with Julie Kavner; which was a spin-off from the "Mary Tyler Moore Show," with Mary Tyler Moore). What a great and legendary lineup/panel here !
That's a very interesting story.
You're right. Not many big time celebrities would even bother acknowledging anybody like that.
I think I actually believe Ms. Burnett really would have shown up to your play had she the time.
It's also interesting that the late great Lucille Ball was brought up, because she would not have.
For all her greatness and for everything she gave to the entertainment industry and Hollywood; she was kind of snobby.
'Refusing to talk to anyone who wasn't famous . .
She was a diva . . but maybe she deserved it.
Lucy always looked glamorous.
How sweet that Lucille was fussing over Carol much like a mother would her daughter. Each of these four ladies in some way brightened/brighten our lives. How wonderful to know that they were friends.
Lucy never turned Carol down when they were to do a show together. That is true respect.
cjrrun That's how the network CBS agreed to her first special. Thanks to Lucy
They were inseparable.
So different from today where the stars have been pre-interviewed and the host reads off the cards and a total lack of spontaneity. They all seemed to know each other and were friends back then. I miss those days.
Authentic talent Lucille Ball & Carol Burnett. 👀♥️💯👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Also loved Dinah Shore - remember when Lucille died, she showed up at the family's door. Seems like she was a neighbor.
Carol wrote that Lucy came to see her in NYC when she starred in her first play, "Once Upon A Mattress", and came backstage afterwards and said something like - anytime you want me for a project, kid, give me a call. Years later Carol did call Lucy, with some hesitation, to appear on Carol's first solo TV special, and Lucy's response was: "When do you want me?" Lucy's participation helped make the special a success, which led to Carol's hugely successful TV variety show.
Dinah Shore was a special lady! She sang well and had a wonderful smile and disposition! She would just light up a room! And this is an incredible gathering of 2 TV Comedy legends! They were close friends and admired each other.
I miss Dinahs show! I used to watch it all the time as a kid. She even had Bowie on and Cher! Sweet Lady!
RIP 💐
Lucy sent flowers to Carol Burnett every year for her birthday. Carol received the flowers the day Lucy died.
There was a time when famous actresses appeared on TV and you actually looked forward to it.
three words: beauty, talent and class .
Ghada1982xx
if only today were the same.
Lucille Ball was my absolute favorite. I really didn’t want her to get older. I started watching Carol Burnett cuz of Lucy.
They don't make 'em like this anymore. Grand Grand Grand.
It was so cute when she started messing around with her necklace 🥺
I just met Carol last night after her stage show in Hartford CT. What a lovely, warm and fabulous lady! Truly one of the more memorable moments of my life.
The View ladies should watch these old shows and take lots and lots of notes......
H Y It is sad that nobody had an iPhone at Carol Burnett’s baby shower because I’m sure that was just P your pants funny to hear those ladies together off camera
Yep.....Dinah Shore was a class act.
This is 1976 it is 2020 this type of show today would be boring this was a much more innocent time
@@soniatorres5442 I was 10 years old. lol
@@soniatorres5442
Well, it was boring in 1976 too...
Lucy and her 'Here's Lucy' sitcom which ended in 1974 was horrible in terms of it being dull and old fashion. Shows such as Maude, All In The Family and Good Times were far funnier.
two of my favorite people of all time. Carol and Lucy
Me too! My absolute two favorite female comedians of all time.
Carol always said that her and Lucy loved each other and were very close friends. You can really see how true that is here and when they worked together.
You may have heard this story; Carol Burnett tells it often: Lucy would send Carol flowers every year on her birthday. Then on the morning of Carol's 56th birthday, she got the news that Lucy had died. That afternoon her flowers from Lucy arrived. Lucy actually died on Carol Burnett's birthday.
MrVidaeverdade I've heard the story many times and everytime Carol tells the story she always gets upset. I have studied and watched Lucy for years. Anytime she appeared in any special in the 80s, I was glued to the TV. I also remember vividly hearing the news of her death on the radio the morning it happened. Milton Berle, Sid Cesar, Danny Thomas and George Burns all gave small interviews. I also remember seeing everything on Entertainment Tonight. Anything that Carol has done involving tributes to Lucy on TV or talking about her, I have seen. There is basically nothing that I don't know about Lucy.
MrVidaeverdade I remember when Lucy died. and I was upset til I found out that Carol got her flowers!
1976 was one of the best years ever in entertainment across the board (music, TV, EVERYTHING!!).
Lucille Ball was responsible for jump starting the amazing careers of people who are still around today.
She even helped out Arnold Schwarzenegger.
And especially don't forget it was Lucy that actually kept Star Trek alive. She even stated that this show was going to be something incredibly exciting and special. Was she ever right.
Absolutely two of the best entertainment legendary. I Love Lucy and Carol Burnett
I can see, by your profile picture, that you "don't" like Lucille Ball. LOL
Dinah had such a warm, gentle voice. ❤
I have only one thing to say about this video clip with Carol Burnett,Lucille Ball, and Dinah Shore, and Valerie Harper,to all of you-I'm so glad we had this time together!!!😄😂🥰
Carole, Lucy, Dinah, Valerie...today's women can't hold a candle
These were the days where entertainers could be themselves, before the management trained and prepared them hours and hours for public relations. You can see the vast difference between “Lucy” as a character and Lucille as a person. An adorable nervous wreck, she is.
I just love that you can see how much Lucy loves Carol! sooo sweet
What a time in America, this was Fantastic!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful Talented Ladies from a Time That we will never ever see again ever PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!;
the two queens of comedy will never happn again miss lucy!
Timeless Priceless yess
Three legends, Carol, Burnett, Lucille Ball and Dinah Shore
When Hollywood stars had class.
I almost died when I saw Kim Kardashian, on the cover of the Rolling Stone, I'll never have any respect for that magazine again. I wish Lucy was still with us.
You mean back then when both actors and actresses were boozing it up, overdosing, sleeping around, cheating, smoking up a storm, and whatnot? Oh yeah good times lol just because it happens today doesn't mean it didn't happen back then
Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz were both class acts ~ we should never forget all that Desi contributied to TV AND the movies!
They did their best to give us all wholesome TV
~ Lucy & Desi!!!!
Cont'd Both re Desi & Lucy gave us their best!!!
omg my two FAVORITE comediennes! I never knew they worked together!
Valerie looks great.
Back in 1976, who didn't?
OMG! Talk about a group of icons. Four true "Superstars."
Carol Burnett and I share the same birthday. What a genius comedian Carol was!! I never laughed so hard!!
Tara E Girod she's an is, not a was..
Lucille Ball died on Carol's bday
@@itstheburnz - Feel better about that now?
Legends. Love all these women here. They gave us so many laughs and lasting TV memories.
Thank you so much for posting this!!! I have never seen this one before with my two favorite red-heads!!! Plus "Rhoda"!!! Luv it!!!
scott zuncic Valerie Harper (Rhoda) appeared with Lucy on Broadway in 'Wildcat.'
they just don't make them like this anymore
Dinah Shore was born in 1916! She was 59 or 60 in this clip. She looked amazing
These women are fantastic. No other word describes the talent they had. Good clean comedy. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Lucille ball,Carol Burnett and Dianh shore it doesn't get any better than this
Don't forget Valerie :-)
Btw, the connection between Lucy and Valerie Harper (who just passed away) was that they were in the show Wildcat together on Broadway. Lucy was the star and Valerie had a small part. Also, Lucy was a tough cookie in Hollywood. She didn’t suffer fools when she became the boss of the studio. Carol often said that’s how her name became plural: Balls.
I love how close Lucille Ball and Carol Burnett were!!! ❤
Lucy looked especially beautiful here ❤️
Amazes me everytime I hear how deep Lucy's voice was 😏 I love it!!! Like it was as different as she was... Also, the fact she had the ability to change it in such a way..... WOW ❤️💖♥️ she deserved an Award just for that..... 💎💎💎💎😊🤗💎💎💎💎
some of that was smoking. It ruined her voice. Have you ever seen her in a really old Three Stooges episode (I think it was)? She was absolutely gorgeous. It must have been about 20 years before I love Lucy.
Her death almost 30 years ago still hurts to this day.
That's some serious talent. Those days are gone.
These women are legends that hollywood will never see again.
Thanks for sharing such a nice show with us!!!!
I want to go to the alternate dimension where these four women started "The View". I'd watch that.
Seriously, the view?
They all try to talk at the same time. They got a little better but still annoying.
But at least it'd be funny. :D
R.I.P. Dinah, Lucy and Valerie
dThank you for posting these show biz gems & doing such a good job. There's nothing more disappointing than when someone posts a vid with poor pic quality & sound. Valerie Harper, Lucy & Carol Brunett, three great comedians and actresses, amongst the classiest ladies of them all.
MY 2 ABSOLUTE FAVORITES !
LEGENDS !
( That response from Lucy when she said Carol’s name was
REAL ! )
That was REAL FRIENDSHIP !
And 3rd..... Without a doubt.....
Vicki Lawrence !
And Carol friended her like Lucy did for her !
I’m getting’ Misty. Teary really.
I love how close Lucy was to Carol
Seeing them warms my heart. It’s like looking at old videos of my aunt ❤️
thks a million for posting!
Wow that was a powerful ensemble of ladies of Hollywood and iconic regardless of gender.
Carol is so gracious
Wow. 4 legends. RIP to Lucy, Dinah, and Valerie. Though I kinda wish Mary Tyler Moore had been there, too. They were truly legends of CBS comedy.
oh my goodness!! you had to love all of these women!!!!/
All three of my idols! :)
Her voice
Patrick3183 .... Heavy smoker.
I'm sure the smoking didn't help, but it deepened during her run with Wildcat as she caused damage to her vocal cords.
These ladies were the best of the best…
ULTIMATE TELEVISION ROYALTY
Thank you for sharing!!
Greatest female comedians ever
This was amazing to watch. Thanks for uploading.
Oh I love seeing this.. you can truly see that Lucy adored Carol.
LEGENDS IN TIME!
The style and the women are memories from my Gen-X childhood.
I love these ladies!
Great clip... thanks for posting this!
2 great comedian females
Love the backdrop being a great picture cutout
& not a plasma LED with strobe lights on
I remember watching this when I was in High School, great memories, these ladies were real television 📺
The best in my opinion. Lucy & Carol. Bar none. 🙌
Royalty.
LUCILLE BALL, THE ORIGINAL DIVA.....
Four beautiful legends to enjoy and never forget -- but love for always! :).
Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!
Rhoda has great comedic timing, thats why she spun off on her own show, 2 incarnations, very funny lady as well....
4 very lovely ladies...and FUNNY TOO! Lucy was my first love on TV...So wonderful.
Love all 4 ladies .... good memories ❤️🇬🇧
Love all these women! Each had their own special appeal.
Awesome ladies!
What a great moment. All this talent just hanging out. The good days
And Carol is now the only lady left of this group 😢 the others have all passed away Val 2019 ! They were all amazing back in their day powerful amazing women RIP
This is special, three very special, boundary pushing women.
Love Carol but Lucy was the queen of it all wasn't she? Such a well known & loved lady. Hard to believe she's been gone so long.
Carol and Lucy almost seemed like sisters or mother and daughter they were so close They were very much alike
