I also have my suspension set up with curry sway bars and fox shocks and I can mob through the desert at upwards of 80mph with no issue while the are going about 10mph. You forgot something important. Wheel offset. The general rule is you want your wheel to be as centered as possible over the hub. If you have a wheel with a massive offset and you have you entire wheel/tire poking outside of the body of the vehicle, not only does it impact ride quality by a lot, but it can also damage your hubs and suspension. Your axles will flex more, and even your braking system will not operate as intended. Make sure you have the proper wheel offset, and this goes for any vehicle set up, not just off road set ups.

    • @208SledHead

    I'm getting the business about going with 17" wheels with 34" Toyos, but my main goal isn't to have a "pavement princess" but to get the max ride on and off road. On the tires I had before, I went from the stock rated 60 PSI front and 70 rear, to 42 PSI front and rear. What a huge difference! They were the 265/70/17s. I'm considering doing the chalk test along with the load and inflation tables, as well as just seeing how it feels, to get the best ride and wear.

      www.toyotires.com/tires-101/tire-load-and-inflation-tables
      There are many videos on the chalk test. They're compelling but I'm still experimenting with it. The tires I had before my own Toyos I ran at the sticker inflation until about a year ago. On the advice of my local tire dealer I tried much lower inflation, since I don't tow much, and it made a huge difference in the ride. Plus, they seemed to wear evenly. At this point, I'll experiment to get to that balancing point of even wear and comfortable ride.
      Of course, if I go offroad I'll reduce tire pressure even more until I'm done being offroad, and when I tow I'll increase them until I'm done towing.

    Get some chalk and mark a 4 inch wide stripe across the tread on all 4 tires. Inflate close to max pressure. Roll forward and backward in a straight line. Check the chalk line. Lower tire pressure as necessary. Repeat till the line wears evenly across all 4 tires so that the contact patch is in full contact under regular load, without being under inflated.

    Unfortunately my 5.9 gasser rides like a damn 1850s wooden wagon because I keep the PSI at or near max always since I tow with it about 90% of the time, I hate it, I can feel every damn grain of rice on the road.

    @JustDiesels my truck must have crappy suspension bc I have 16 inch stock dually steel rims with a 235 85 R16. Huge sidewall and the suspension is soo rough. It’s also a 93 dodge

    • @JustDiesels
      @JustDiesels  3 года назад +1

      Yeah those first gens need serious help in the suspension department! I recommend doing a custom soft ride leaf pack from Alcan, Atlas or Deaver. That and some decent shocks make a world of difference!
