I got a 2020 Jeep Cherokee and it’s alright haven’t had no trouble but I want a truck tired of hauling my tools in the back of my jeep what’s the best model and year truck that’s reliable?
I just bought an 05 2500 with a Cummins. I love this truck, good MPG, good power, and the Cummins is built to last. It has 293,000 miles and 0 blowby! I drive a 2018 Ram 5500 w/a 6.7 Cummins and that 6.7 is nice, smooth, and quiet, but there is no denying that 5.9 is a classic Diesel.
Confession time: I was part of the production company that filmed those trucks falling from the 10 feet in the air. Those trucks didn't start the first time we filmed that because the fuel pump in the gas tank would immediately dislodge. I'm the guy that figured out the problem and rigged up an external electric fuel pump so they would start and drive away after we drop them. Then: we reshot the commercial. Surprisingly the suspension and everything else was fine, even though: each of those trucks was dropped a minimum additional 2 or 3 times for testing purposes before the second and final shoot. IE: some of those trucks were dropped 5 times with no problem other than the stock fuel pump In the gas tank dislodging!
As a currently active diesel mechanic I can tell you without a doubt the Ford built 6.7 diesel engine is the best out there especially current generation.
We've had an 03 Ram 3500 4 door long bed with the overload springs straight out of the factory with the exhaust brake. Had 8k lbs in the bed, didn't come close to bump stops, towed veeerrry heavy loads, and to top it off it was one of the years with absolutely no EPA garbage! Love it to death and with some modifications it got up to 1200lbft of torque and 26mpg unloaded highway. 18 loaded. Now it has a 6.7 swapped in and is even more amazing. Love the truck and would recommend it to anyone. It also has the 6 speed NV5600 which I wish Scotty had talked about because it is bulletproof out of the factory.
Appreciate your historical commentary. My Dad was a WWII vet and my take was he was a fan of Dodge Trucks especially the Power Wagon that always , " got the tough jobs done," and Then Some. He also had a deep appreciation for all mechanical progress, but at the end of the day the purchases fell on a Mopar of some kind, Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, etc.. Keep making enthusiastic, interesting, and helpful material. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, concerns, experience, frustrations and experiences with us all. My family and I enjoy your content. Have enjoyable Thanks Giving!
I have a '98 2500 Cummins 4X4 that I bought new when the 24v came out. It's never left me stranded and I've only had to replace parts that normally wear out. Still runs great with 250,000 miles on it.
It's a stupid truck to own. Everytime my retarded neighbor takes his in to the shop it's like 1000 in parts and 1500 in labor. Nice try losers. American companies blow chunks
I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie w/ 5.7 Hemi 193,520 miles still running strong. I have replaced the radiator, alternator, power steering pump and reservoir and EVAP solenoid. I run Mobil 1 5w30 and have dropped the transmission pan and changed filter a couple of times. Very pleased with my purchase and would love to see DaimlerChrysler get back involved with making this wonderful truck. God bless you all.
I'm English we don't really have them here but... A mate in Nashville has one, sorry not sure of the model but it has the Cummings diesel in it. A beast, with over 600,000 on the clock !!! My mate's brother (who is an expert on these trucks) has one with a million on the clock!!! Great vehicles, but they wouldn't fit in the village I live in !!! Great video as usual Mr. Scott.
My wife just bought herself a new 3500 dualie along with a 37’ gooseneck to tow her Jeep that sits on 40” tires. And she used her own money. I have a 95 land cruiser sitting on 1 ton axles and a LS6 engine, so I get a spot on her trailer if I can get off work. She’s a keeper.
I'm sad to see how dodge has changed. We had a used 99 Durango until about 2017, and we abused that thing to death. Wasn't easy to own when gas was $4, but the only reason we got rid of it was because we got t-boned, and insurance decided to total it
If it is bulletproof why can’t they get more than 300,000 miles without a major overhaul anymore? Unless you take all the EPA crap off them they don’t last anymore.
If its bullet proof why cant the turbos last more then 15,000s with out blowing the engine up? Or what about those transmission seal leaks at around 10,000 miles ?
Bought new in 1994 a second generation Dodge ram 1500 2wd. The 5.2 liter (318 c.i.) has always been my favorite engine. I now have 308,000 miles on it. Other than a crank sensor going bad at around 110,000 miles and normal tune up parts and oil changes, the engine and transmission are untouched Still runs great. Just put on the second water pump and replaced the original thermostat. Only replaced the starter motor once and the alternator once. I live in Michigan so yes it has some rust. I've owned it 27 years and still love it. I keep up pretty good on the maintenance. I've personally done close to 100 oil changes on it. It still runs great.
I had a 1976 Dodge D 100 back many years ago. It had a 318 V8 and a three speed automatic transmission. This truck was so simple. I bought it for $ 400 back in 1987 with a bad engine I managed to rebuild without experience. When the transmission lost it's reverse gear I was able to rebuild that too. Kept the truck until 1998, when the body was getting pretty wonky. I put well over 100,000 miles on it in that time. I loved that truck. It had more power than I needed.
Scotty finally throwing some love to our legendary cummins powered trucks from Ram. If i lived closer id let him take mine for a day so he could talk about it.
Ya and the little tune at the end. I cant understand why ANYONE wouldnt like this guy. 4.57 ! Other youtube mechanics who speak poorly of him only shoot themselves in the foot.
Liked the video . I am not a dodge guy but my father bought me a dodge ram 50 to use while I attended college up north . It worked Very well and it got me home and back up to school . A one way trip 500 miles . I loved it until it got stolen . Dodge did good for me .
I had a 2011 Ram Bighorn 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi. It towed and carried everything I could throw at it and drove more comfortably than every Chev,Ford I ever drove. Great truck, only complaint was bad fuel economy but it made more power than I needed and never caused me any grief....I should've kept it.
My 2011 1500 just turned 60,000 miles. It looks like new, drives like new, paid for, does everything I need. Been a truly great truck. Oh, and it's a plain jane model, debadged, bigger tires and I get compliments on it all the time. And I don't miss any of the useless technology built into the newer $70,000. trucks either.......put that in your pipe Scotty!
I had a 2017 Ram 1500 Tradesmen as the lone family vehicle, camper tower, materials and debris hauler, etc. It did everything I needed. While camping in Virginia Beach, my wife noticed that everyone else had 2500s, 3500s, 250s, 350s,...and she kept saying to me, "we need more truck". I was resistant because my 1500 was nearly paid for and did everything I needed. The morning after returning home from that trip, my wife woke me up and asked, "are you ready to go look at trucks"? Thinking I would pacify her, I agreed to 'look'. As we approached the lot, we both spotted an Olive Green Ram 2500 Tradesmen. It is now mine, and I paid it off after just two payments. Stepping up to the 2500 was a great choice! I smile every time I see it, and I get compliments on my truck all the time. I've done some small upgrades and have plans for some more involved improvements. I doubt I'll ever sell this truck and I'll drive it until the wheels fall off.
Whatever happened to the big 3 we used to like? In today’s age, they crank out crap faster than they can dump it. They make a poor product and expect us to buy it at an inflated price. Man, I miss the old days and ways.
Man, I miss the old days and ways." Gone forever... Ozzie and Harriet are dead. Throw your Elvis records and bell bottoms away. Learn to use proper pronouns and maybe some Chinese.
Blame the idiots in our government. They dream up fuel economy regulations that can’t be reached without ridiculous cuts in weight and cubic inches. Which means 6 or 4 cylinders!
Finally! A fair review by you, about the Dodges! For me, these trucks are by far the most reliable of the big 3! I love these trucks. They just need to be maintained, and they will take care of you.
My dad bought an ‘01 Dodge Ram 2500 new. Cummins engine, manual transmission. Gets in the 20s for mpg, and currently has around 370k or 380k mi on it. The dash is cheaply made, so that’s cracked. Overall a super solid truck though. He’s upgraded the tires, rims, and exhaust. Has a different heavy duty front bumper. Large topper. Always had custom seat covers on it, so the original seats are like new.
@@eggy1962 It's a secondary truck now as of last year. His daily one now is an '07 or '08 (newer body style) Chevy Silverado Duramax 2500 HD. Long bed. Black exterior and interior Fully loaded. Pre diesel emission crap. A beast of a truck. Tons of power. Luxurious in comparison to the Dodge. The Dodge is now his second vehicle for hunting trips, or he occasionally goes to work in it. He might turn it into a snow plow truck since my parents' driveway is a 1/4 mi long. Both very reliable trucks
I love my Ram 1500! It does everything I’ve ever asked of it. Camping, fishing, hunting, overlanding, and more. Great mpg all the time and it looks great. I won’t touch the newer diesels because I don’t want to have to buy some additive plus fuel. Which is sad because I used to drive a diesel 6.5 ltre turbo for 21 years and loved it. I’ll drive a Ram for the rest of my life.
You lost us when you said great gas mileage. The Dodge Ram is well known for being able to ⛽️“ Pass everything ’cept a gas station” ⛽️ HaHa I little humor, Glad you’re enjoying your truck.
@@rickyrudd28texacohavolinef2 in comparison of the 3, 1/2 ton pickups RAM and GM both had combined mpgs of 26 (diesel) the Ford 25mpg (hybrid) and 23 (diesel) and the Chevy diesel 27 so id say youre wrong about the mileage claim... i couldnt find GAS mileage in a quick search
I bought a 2020 2500 with the 6.4 last year. It is my 5th Ram truck, dating all the way back to my 1987 W150. My friend just bought a 21 3500 with the HO 6.7 Cummins and it's amazing how capable that truck is. That 1075lbs ft of torque is amazing
I have a 2017 Ram 1500 with the 3.6L - man it gets me through everything. Hauls a yard of topsoil, 4x4 through the worst snow storms. Its like a companion to me now. Just rolled 100k miles. Havent even done brakes lol.
We just bought a 2022 Ram 1500 Limited. We were going back and forth between that and a 2500. I hadn’t seen this video before the purchase and was afraid to watch it! I respect your honesty and worried that you might say something that would make me regret the purchase. Your video not only validated our choice, but filled us in on some great history! Thank you for all of your hard work. What a great resource!
Thank you for the review. I have a 2018 Ram 1500 5.7 hemi. I love it. It has the power I need for hauling. Plus it's just right for running my 4 wheeler up on to go riding. My 2010 Tundra had more power but, 14 - 16mpg verses 18.5 - 22 mpg makes a lot of difference going back and forth 40 Miles a day to work. I have not had any problems or complaints. I love this truck. So far so good. Bought it with 12,666 Miles on it and now has 56,284. Tuff little bugger.. Jeffrey
Just bought a 2018 Ram 1500 with a v8 hemi last night. Runs great! Has plenty of pep on gas, quiet and smooth ride. I got the crew cab. Plenty of room for family and pets, and plenty of storage for all kinds of odd stuff. I need it for some towing, some work around homestead, and just getting around. It's our family vehicle now. 😀
Yea well take my advice. Buy a toyota! Had a 4th gen dodge ram 1500. What a pile of crap it was. Only had 100,000 on it. Bought a Tundra and couldn't be more happier.
I got a 2019 Ram 1500 classic with the V6 , 3.55 rear instead of 3.23. Was skeptical of a truck with a V6 but after a couple years now I'm happy with it. The ride is comfortable, the road noise is quiet on the highway and I get an average 22 mpg. Couple hundred bucks swapped rear springs for 30% higher capacity ones. Compared to my 2003 Dodge off road that had the 5.7 I don't miss half the gas mileage. V6 with the 8 speed is enough for daily driver, light loads and trailer towing.
My 2014 RAM V-6 gets 27mpg on the highway. Have owned an 89= 135 HP V-6, 94= 175HP V-6, an 02=215HP V-6. My 2014 gets the best mileage with the 8 speed tranny and has 315 HP. I have test driven Ford, Chevy GMC, and even Toyota. None come close.
I have the 2014 ram 2500. It is my first big truck. Night and day difference compared to 1500. I couldn’t believe how much power it has and how hard it is to get it stuck. Out of the box it was a winner , but the upgrade path has been inexpensive and rewarding with almost as much aftermarket as a Honda !
Scotty! I almost fell off my chair watching this video! You didn't trash the Dodge/Ram brand! Are you feeling OK? Did you hit your head or something? This IS an historic day !
I have a 1500 with the 5.7 and I really like it. I had a 2018 and now I have a 2021. These trucks have come a long way in the last 10 or so years. So far so good.
2012 1500 Big Horn 4x4 Hemi.. 214k miles with no hiccups down the road. Proper maintenance and a little luck are the golden ticket to longevity. My only concern is that the engine will sometimes instantly crank over instead of churn a few times, but it's rare enough and no issues as of yet.
My first vehicle was an 2002 Dodge ram 1500 regular cab short bed with a 5 speed manual and the 4.7 magnum. It was a great truck and it lasted perfectly with the transmission shifting smoothly all the years of its life. Sadly I got into a rollover and totaled the truck. I miss it.
I have a 99 half ton with the 5.2 318 V8, probably the most loyal vehicle I own. It’s about 3 days worth of commuting away from 400k miles. Can’t say I’m disappointed. Everything on it still works, even the old cigarette lighter socket. Only thing I’ve replaced is the dash, had a new one put in about 12 years ago and it hasn’t cracked.
I've had both Hemi engines. My 2008 Dodge 1500 had the 5.7 (I enjoyed that little hot rod) Next I bought a 2015 Ram 2500 crew cab 4x4. That was very powerful. However pulling grades with travel trailer in tow was uncomfortable at 3800 RPM and 6.2 mpg. Loved that truck but stepped up to a 2016 Ram 2500 Crew cab with a Cummins. What a difference. I went and upgraded up to a 35' fifth wheel. I can pull that same grade up the Salt River Canyon at 1800 RPM and get just short of 15 mpg. Love my Cummins 2500!
I have a 3500 Cummins for work and last year I bought a 2014 1500 hemi to save miles on the diesel, what a freaking hot rod that thing is. I love them both.
Not one mention about their weak transmissions. I enjoyed every Dodge truck I owned, but every one that had a V8 over the years the transmission eventually gave out. The only truck that was a trooper was the '99 Dakota with a V6 I used to deliver pizzas with. That little V6 was a trooper even though it was rusted through on every panel, the engine and trans drove like a dream.
The automatic transmissions weren't exactly bulletproof for sure. I have the manual 4 speed from my 66 Dodge that I saved. It's ready to go for another 100k.
dodge, ram. Fiat, Peueot or whomever owns them now doesnt make the transmissions in these anymore I believe... I know the 8 sp ZF trans in mine is the same transmission design offered in some BMWs.. the old 46RE in my 96 ram was weak though and suffered failures.
@@fathergratwick my first vehicle was a 96 Ram. Transmission went at 180k miles. Which wasn't too bad, but my 92' Dakota made is 260k before it's trans got stuck in 1st gear.
Bought a 2012 Ram 1500 5.7L new, have just under 90,000 miles, mostly highway. Cold air intake, wrapped shorty headers, Flowmaster American Thunder exhaust, throttle control, tuner, no issues of note so far. Currently deciding which supercharger to buy. Great pick up truck.
I'm on my second Ram 1500. On the first I had to replace a door lock actuator and that was the only issue (except for when I left the tailgate down when towing my boat and crunched it pretty good on a sharp turn, ouch). Second one is my favorite vehicle I've had. The 5.7 Hemi and ZF trans are a good combo, smooth and reliable.
I just bought a used 2001 2500 cummings diesel powered truck 130,000 miles. I plopped a carry/slide on camper in the back of it. AND, It didn't even notice the weight. Good mileage too. I'm in love !!
WTF is going on?!!!! Next thing you know he's going to say the Caravan is the best built mini-van and the PT Cruiser and Neons are misunderstood gems. He must be smoking some peyote.
@@bigrunts9768 those trucks are like the 1993 Ford tempo with the larger engine option. The power train was great but the vehicle disintegrated around it.
@JordanTheVYonder2002Productions, like ford having international build the power stroke up until the 6.7 which is built in house by Ford, and Isuzu build the duramax for general motors. Yep like always.....
Do it, Scotty. Talk about the Vortec 4800 and suchlike. Just glaze over the parts about the Chevy Cruze and remember how longlasting the old cavalier was.
I rented one for a long road trip a couple of years back. Actually, it was all Enterprise had available at the moment. It was a 2019 1500 if memory serves. What surprised me most was the great gas mileage it got over the course of my 3000 mile trip. I've often wondered, however, how well they hold up over the long haul. I tend to keep trucks for a very long time. I put lots of miles on them. My current truck has over 300k on it. I'd consider a Ram 1500 for my next truck, so long as it isn't a maintenance money pit.
Sadly after owning multiple ram's, the long term reliability is was pushed me away. Most of the time it was just electrical issues, or ABS, but I did have trouble with late 90's automatics with the half ton. Not saying other don't have issues, I just don't want to give them my money at this point after having so many issues on rams and some of the cars covering about 15 years between 1990 - 2005.
Was employed by a rental company for years, been out sense 2013, at that time the diesel version had exceptional fuel economy, made one replacement delivery in excess of 600 miles, 29 mpg and I didn’t baby the vehicle. Best part was, didn’t have to refuel. Think green.
I just sold my 09 and it had 300k and still ran like a top. Daily driver and the most expensive repair over all those miles was I replaced the worn out upper and lower control arms and ball joints. Just normal wear and tear. Replaced a starter, battery, two cooling fans and front wheel bearings over the years. Very cost effective truck and never once broke down on me. Just maintenence. I still drive a ram that has served me well.
I own an 89 D250 with the 5.9 Cummins. My truck was originally owned by Cummings and was used to maintain their property at the S.C. plant they owned. After selling that property the truck stayed with it. I worked for the new owners and bought the truck for 100 dollars. The battery was 9yrs old and they didn't understand why it wouldn't start. After a battery and brake job I've been driving it for 15 years. I plan on driving it till I can't drive anymore. Great Truck.
@@danielrustom9732 Oops! 225 it is. That was used in Dodge's cars, pickups and vans from 1960 thru 1987 then kept in production until 2000 for marine, agricultural and industrial use.
Just bought my second Ram 1500 yesterday. A 2021 Laramie crew cab w/sport package, 6’4” box, 20” chrome & painted wheels. Giving my 2017 Ram 1500 Tradesmen/Express Quad cab to my adult son, who I a mechanic. Have not had one single problem with the 2017 Ram….have had it almost 4 years, has 60K miles, driven round trip to Miami twice, to Atlanta, 3 times to Indiana, 3 times to Ocean City MD (from DC metro area)--never any issues. Swapped out the stock Goodyear’s that were on it for 275/60/ R20 Falken Wildpeak AT3 (all terrain tires)…the stock tires were horrible on wet road and snow. The Falkens are excellent and didn’t significantly increase road noise inside the cabin.
2019 1500 V6 e-Torque here. Bought with 25,000kms and was a year and a half old. What a great truck! Daily driver / long highway trip cruiser. 25,000km in the last year. Tows a trailer with a few quads, a horse and trailer, or other light duty items. You pay a fuel penalty for mountain driving while towing above 2500 lbs (I think max is about 7000lbs on the V6) , but if unladen (or even towing on a flat road) it's amazingly efficient for a 1/2 ton V6. Hard to find flaws.
Price starts at 35k? I know 4 people that just bought one. The cheapest one was a 1500 for 74k and the most expensive one was a Cummins for 90k. Then to top it off we all live in California and pay 8.5% tax on that and about $1500 in registration. That brings the grand total to $100k. I’m pretty sure your not going to haul gravel in that.
@Austin TA here in the states, I pay 23% in federal, 17% in state tax, and about 8% in sales tax. We don’t pay one flat tax, we pay taxes on taxes and again taxes on our taxes for everything. It’s the same here, it all goes to illegals and the worthless.
2014 1500 3.6 L V6 Crew Cab with tow package. 60K miles never one issue. These 8 speed automatics with this suspension is perfect for a guy with kids and towing a 14' aluminum bass boat. So much room and comfort. Quiet smooth ride that looks great. I love rams, but it's basically a mini van for me with a small bed 🤣. But that's what I needed.
My overall view of Mopar products has never been good. That is until I bought a '93 D250 with the 5.9 Cummins and 5-speed manual transmission. I can't speak to the newer Dodge trucks or any other Dodge vehicles, but this truck has been rock solid. I've owned it for 14 years now and it's been one of the most reliable vehicles I've ever had. It's right up there with my 1990 Corolla. I've gotten up to 23 mpg driving it unloaded, and up to 18 mpg with a truck camper on it and while towing the Corolla behind it. Those are the best numbers - the worst mpg I've ever gotten with it (with the camper on and while towing the Corolla) was about 13.5 mpg which included lots of climbing and headwinds. Normally while loaded it's in the 16 to 17 mpg area. For a turbo diesel it's a real dog though. They really tuned these things for longevity rather than power. The good news is that it's relatively easy and cheap to get 40 to 50 more hp out of them. If you want to throw a few thousand at it you can drastically increase the power, but then you have to worry about the rest of the drivetrain too. I just did the basic mods (fuel pin, governor spring and some injection pump tuning) so I could tow a little easier and am very happy with the results. Hope to keep this truck for many more years. And - it's the only vehicle I've ever owned that actually appreciated while I've had it. Fourteen years after I bought it I could probably sell it for $5,000 more than I paid for it, or more.
Got a 2020 ram 1500 Laramie 5.7 hemi etorque when I got to the dealership they were unloading some new trucks and when I seen it I fell in love with it ended up buying it and I couldn’t be happier in the 2 years I’ve had it I’ve already put 90k miles on it so far I’ve had no problems at all not even as much as a transmission slip or a dead battery it still runs brand new even though I average about 250 to 500 miles a day with heavy equipment in the bed I absolutely love it and couldn’t recommend one of these new body style rams enough!
My pops has a 2002 ram, he loves that truck man, over 200,000 miles and she’s still running pretty well. I decided to keep the tradition going and got myself a 2015 ram with a hemi and she looks so beautiful 😍
I think Scotty totally missed why the 2nd Gen was so popular. It was the body style, the front end, the curves. When that thing came out it was from another planet. It had testosterone leaking out everywhere. The Cummins was great but it was the body that sold it.
I Have a 2014 1500 5.7 liter and still running as good as new at 120,000+ miles. Personally I think the line up of Ram trucks since 09 has had the best overall looks and styling over competitors as well as having the best exhaust notes on modern pickups.
Yeah..I work on a truck lot and we have just about every truck you can think of...I got a 5.7 ram 2014 because it runs and drives the best out of all I have tested..mine has 35k on it
We had a 2004 Hemi 1500, it was a great truck. Now have a 2012 Hemi and it’s also been a great truck. Still going strong 12 years later after a lot of use 👍
I've got a 2005 Hemi 1500 that is still going strong. Never left me stranded and has only had a few problems that I've been able to do myself. Hitting around 190,000 right now.
@@TexasBeekeeperoriginal owner of a 2003 1500. All I can say is do the maintenance. I didn't do the maintenance one time on my transmission. Well my fault. Original engine at 308 k engine has not skipped the beat
I love my 2021 ram 2500 with the big hemi, tow anything 99% of people need to tow unless you tow for a living or extremely heavy and I still get around 15 mpg in mixed driving, pretty awesome for a truck with 3,000 lbs of payload and almost 15,000 lbs. of towing capacity all while towing MUCH better and costing relatively the same as a new gen ram 1500
Bought a new 3500 crew cab drw Ram with Cummins and manual tranny in 2017. In the first 105,000 miles, it has cost $18,000 in maintenance replacing DPF, turbo charger actuator, trailer brake module, abs module, crank case ventilation valve, tires, filters, 2 batteries, and clutch slave cylinder. Not very happy with the last truck I’ll ever need. What is going to break next and how much will it cost to repair?
14 times to dealership in 20 months. never repaired electrical properly. The dealer says computer will shut down vehicle for flawed lugs shortly and no replacement parts until next april. 2019 one ton crew cab diesel
I had a Ram 1500 4x4 and it was totaled last summer. When I get my next truck, I plan to get the Hemi 2500 4x4. Honestly, my 1500 was perfect for what I used it for but I want the larger truck since there is not much difference in gas mileage and it seems like the price difference between the 1500 and 2500 is not enough for me not to take advantage of having a larger truck.
Love the 5th gen! Very capable of everything I need it to do , which includes plowing. Yes snow plowing with my 5.7 1500 ram with an 8' v plow! Best trucks on the market for style comfort price and capacity.
The Ram 1500 Ecodiesel gives a good middle ground to a 2500. With 12,500lbs capacity, it can haul a whole of of recreational trailers and job trailers with not much of an issue for a fraction of the cost of the 2500. I’ve enjoyed the one I have and have never had an issue with it.
I own a 95 dodge 1500 with the 5.2 single cab 8ft bed, I've thrown alot of money sweat and blood at it but boy i love that truck. Oh yeah and at 5:43 that guy definately didn't make that turn.
A lot of the information was incorrect especially in the older models. The new cummins puts out 1,000 ft lbs of torque not 850. It was big milestone for the diesel community. I’ve worked on these trucks for a little over 10 years.. I own 5 myself
I’ve had experience with all 3 and they are all great trucks I don’t know how the v6 holds up in them mine have all been hemis or Cummins but very rarely have I ever had an issue with them. I do know the newer ones with the Cummins seem to be plagued with emissions systems issues but the overall quality of the truck as far as engine and transmission seems to be good at least going off a few buddies trucks who all run 2018 -21 3500 rams using them for a transport service. They’ve had several emissions problems but no other issues at all other than routine maintenance
@@Yoursistersazz scotty says not to buy anything new. It's just throwing away money and you don't know if it's a future lemon in the making that you just bought. An endless money pit. That goes for Japanese made too. Never buy new. But your odds are better and your resale value.
My mother has the v6 in her 2015 grand Cherokee. It’s been a great engine and trouble free for her. Now she’s an older lady and drives it as such but it’s impressed me even how it handles towing. Her and my father pull their 22ft travel trailer 3800 with it and it has t skipped a beat
Leased a 2019 RAM 1500, we put about 50xxxkm during the lease. I noticed it started to get the hemi tick. Mentioned it to the dealer during a service and they said it was normal. When the lease was up the same dealership said the engine was ruined and it needed to be replaced. We gave them proof of oil changes and they covered it under warranty. The truck was great to drive but the legendary hemi didn't last and the dealership experience was poor.
Being a Ram mechanic I would love your opinion on the BEST generation engine and engine size to buy used in the 3rd gen to present (well know how you feel about thr 5th gen, so 3rd & 4th) please.
@@dwilson2126 I don't believe they are, but just last week had a 2019 1500 in the shop wouldn't start or crank and no DTC"s to follow. For no real reason the PDC (essentially the fusebox) went bad internally. Guy had to pay out of pocket cause its not covered by powertrain. This is a known problem and Chrysler as of right now has no real fix/update. The 2020 and 2021 has the same PDC. I can go on for days as why you shouldn't buy one of these newer Rams
Well... you asked, so- I prefer the 3500, but mostly because I have one fully loaded already. One thing you didn't mention nearly enough is how comfy they are- sometimes, I just go hang out in mine with my dog and watch a movie on the VES because the heated leather seats are more comfortable than any chair in my house!
Own a 2019 Ram 1500 Limited. Traded in a Ford F150 Platinum that turned out to be a POS that I could not wait to get rid of. I have owned three Ram 1500 trucks over the years and they have all been the best trucks in my opinion. Chevy and Ford are plagued with recalls which take time to resolve. My Ram just keeps on going and going. And no truck on the market has the luxury touches more than the Ram Limited. Only one complaint, hate the rotating shift knob, so if any Ram engineers are reading these comments, bring back the console shifters. Other than that they are great trucks.
I think Ram has stayed in a good position by keeping their trucks as simple as possible. I’ve owned my 01 2500 diesel for 5 years and towed with it and already driven it more than 80,000 miles I bought it with over 200,000 miles and I’ve only spent about $5,000 into it for necessary repairs all of which I was able to do myself in the driveway. They are great trucks if your willing to work on them yourself and it’s totally doable. As for the newer ones where I work our whole fleet is Ram trucks and they are super reliable, awesome fleet. They get a bad wrap for the automatic transmissions however usually the guys complaining about that have a tuner and other mods that are pushing the truck to the limits. Nothing lasts forever unless it’s maintained and these trucks are very easy to maintain.
I have a 2020 ram 1500 laramie sport and love the truck so far its by far the best truck I've ever drove! Towing is great and suprised me on the gas mileage for such a huge truck! I am without a doubt a ram for life guy if they keep building them as they do now!
Just upgraded my first Ram truck a 2018 1500 big horn crew cab, first vehicle i ever bought new. Got it at a year end 10k off event, held it value so well, i had a trade in value of 34k, which is the same purchase price i paid for it 4 years ago. had 65k miles on it. Replaced it with a 2020 Ram Rebel quad cab with 5k miles. I think im going to stick with rams for quite awhile. Hell maybe ill be lucky enough to find an alright priced TRX to upgrade this ride with in a few years when its paid off
Scotty, I am in the market for a new Ram 1500, but I've heard that the drivers side head, part of the motor has been blowing, at around 80,000 now I have a Ram 1500 2013 now, and I have 225000 on it, with some rust issues underneath, and that is why I'm considering a new one, I want to be safe, anyway have you heard about this, because I haven't, have had 3 ram 1500 and they have all been jems, I like the look, I like the reliability, and I like the gas mileage, all 3 of them had the 3.6 engine, any info would be much appreciated, keep up the great work my friend, I love your videos, and your knowledge of the engine is stellar

I got a 2020 Jeep Cherokee and it’s alright haven’t had no trouble but I want a truck tired of hauling my tools in the back of my jeep what’s the best model and year truck that’s reliable?
What's your thoughts on the ram's 1500 eco diesel?
Are you gonna do one on Fords 150 please and the best model for someone. Be my dad please. 👨
Scotty, I hear some of the diesel 2500 and 3500 have "aisin" transmissions, is this true?
@@TravisL.Desmadreson 3500s offer them, but not the 2500s from what I understand
As a employee of Cummins who builds engines, I just have to say that there is no letter G in Cummins. Cummings?
That's what she said 😆 🤣
LOL, you've NEVER taken one of your trucks up to "Lookout Point"? (wink)
Scotty gets a lot of facts wrong.
Yeah, I caught that too...... : -- ))
Noted that straight away. Part of Scotty not liking anything other than Honda or the Toy.
And then all were happily sold as demonstratiors 😂

ABSOLUTELY RIGHT...
The weak link has always been the Chrysler accessories.

100 percent legit… the V8 diesels in the competition are not as well suited for sustained heavy use and abuse .
How hard was it to swap the 6.7 and Trans in? I'm on my third 48RE and I'm just done with it.

I'm sad to see how dodge has changed. We had a used 99 Durango until about 2017, and we abused that thing to death. Wasn't easy to own when gas was $4, but the only reason we got rid of it was because we got t-boned, and insurance decided to total it
I work in the Cummins plant that makes that Diesel engine. Trust me, this engine is absolutely bulletproof.
I love the Cummins engine, I don’t like the ram that’s wrapped around it
What would you say about the 3.6L pentastar? Or the 8 speed transmission

I've seen many quite similar stories about the hemi ram trucks, the diesel manual transmission ones, they are legend.

I miss it.
Man that’s sad my 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 has 4.7 V8 Quad Cab Full sized bed and I love it but I have a few dents in it but it runs like it’s brand new!

Same here, I like to pick my nose and wipe it under the ironing board!
My 2008 Dodge 1500 had the 5.7 (I enjoyed that little hot rod)
Next I bought a 2015 Ram 2500 crew cab 4x4.
That was a long time ago already. The chevy was bad back then too
I'm on my 3rd transmission in my 2007 1500. 😓

I have the same truck what kind of headers did you use
I'm on my second Ram 1500. On the first I had to replace a door lock actuator and that was the only issue (except for when I left the tailgate down when towing my boat and crunched it pretty good on a sharp turn, ouch). Second one is my favorite vehicle I've had. The 5.7 Hemi and ZF trans are a good combo, smooth and reliable.
I just bought a used 2001 2500 cummings diesel powered truck 130,000 miles. I plopped a carry/slide on camper in the back of it. AND, It didn't even notice the weight. Good mileage too. I'm in love !!

What’s your current company choice? Toyota? Ford? Something else?
My RAM has been more reliable than our toyota by far. But its a 2005 ram
The movie "Twister" used a nice red Ram that caught my attention to Rams as a kid truck dreams 😄
and "die-hard with a vengeance" Walker Texas Ranger had them 2nd gens
I was 8 when that movie came out, and have wanted one ever since.
Still have my Dodges. Probably never sell any of them. 1950...through 1987 is the newest. Pickups and medium duty trucks..

I'm disappointed that Scotty failed to mention their legendary Leaning Tower of Power 235 cid Slant Six.
225?

It has 60k miles
........ Your proud that is hadn't had problems in those miles?? That's nothing
Actually many of my clients do 😁, God bless. 🇺🇸

@Austin TA I bet, Canada is socialist
@Austin TA here in the states, I pay 23% in federal, 17% in state tax, and about 8% in sales tax. We don’t pay one flat tax, we pay taxes on taxes and again taxes on our taxes for everything. It’s the same here, it all goes to illegals and the worthless.
For Gods sake will someone please tell Scotty how to pronounce Cummins. There is not a G at the end.
He also pronounces “Porsche “ with one syllable 🙄
2014 1500 3.6 L V6 Crew Cab with tow package. 60K miles never one issue. These 8 speed automatics with this suspension is perfect for a guy with kids and towing a 14' aluminum bass boat. So much room and comfort. Quiet smooth ride that looks great. I love rams, but it's basically a mini van for me with a small bed 🤣. But that's what I needed.
I still have my 05 ram 2500 with the 5.7 HEMI. The Reliability is excellent. The towing/hauling is excellent. RAM is my brand!
Honestly the 2002 Ram was very impressive. It aged very well. It can easily pass off as truck released in 2010
My pops has a 2002 ram, he loves that truck man, over 200,000 miles and she’s still running pretty well.
I drive a 06 1500 with the 4.7 in it. Great truck. Drove it across the country and back with no issues. 222k miles and still going strong.
I Have a 2014 1500 5.7 liter and still running as good as new at 120,000+ miles. Personally I think the line up of Ram trucks since 09 has had the best overall looks and styling over competitors as well as having the best exhaust notes on modern pickups.
