Ilias Iliadis is a Georgian born Greek judoka who was 17 years-old at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games where he overcame his young age and international inexperience to win Greece's first ever Olympic gold in judo.
Iliadis was also the flag bearer for Greece at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and won his second Olympic medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games, this time a bronze.

The man is brilliant! He instinctively had an answer for every attack and could create actions to which he already knew how to react to in order to resolve the bout. Genius.
One of the best attacking fights I've ever seen! He just swamped his oponent with aggression and athleticism! Judo seemed more exciting back then before the new rules.
Nick Mackey Definetely true. But that will make the classic discussion to start over again again.
In my opinion the new rules make it to look more like judo.

@@diang1984 can you tell me in a nutshell what those rules are and what they changed as opposed to how it was before them?
@lefterismagkoutas4430 for instance no leg grabs, more direct game, penalties for passive game. The fact that the number of ippons increased, especially in the rule set of 2012-2016 was a sign that all these restrictions made the athletes more efficient.
Iliadis was the kind of player whose physical game was beyond any other in his league. Literally a miracle.
he was only 17 years old.
Is there anyone who beleive in this??) anyway he is the legend!

Let me tell you something Nikolaki.. He is Greek. He born georgian but HE IS NOT an georgian athlete. He love Greece so keep that way. Your country Georgia did NOT give him the opportunity, Greece did it so he is Greek. So swallow it.
Black Hellene i don't have to swallow anything Georgian blood does what it does we ve got better judokas than he is the thing is he is your first olympic champion in judo he taught it to greeks the Georgian school what you all call ogushi it is mogverdi
There is something called selfdetermination and if he feels like a greek , and speaks like a greek , and lives in greece for more than 2 decades then he has this fundamental civil right to call himself greek !!!EDUCATE please mate ..No hate ..I just don't like people make public opinions that violates civil rights ....Ilias came in greece on an age (15) when he couldnt even use an uchi mata properly ...Nikos Iliadis the man who adopted him made him who he is !!
Nikoloz Bichiashvili it hurts because he chose Greece over Georgia but it's ok you are allowed to cry
First and last medal for Greek in Judo, unless they want to pretend that another Georgian is a Greek.
He made a decision my friend and you should respect it
***** I think you should ask that because personally I don't care what Georgia did. For me it's enough to see him kissing the Greek badge when he wins. And if you're not happy to be Greek you can go to Georgia and you might as well change your surname to Aslanidze or Aslanishvili.

giga gigaa poor nation? Thanks ancient Greece you have today Olympic games. Also maths, democracy , astronomy and others. Poor guy....
I Didn't see Georgia give him this opportunity. He feel Greek and Greece give it back to him.
giga gigaa Is there a country named Georgia? I thought it was only a name.. imagine how poor both economically and historically that country is 😕
U sound so little man that i feel sorry for u. Get a life...
I suggest you check the Olympic medal count for Greece . Then, compare it to the Georgian one. Let me make it easy for you. Greece in the Olympics - 116 medals. Georgia in the Olympics - 33. Indeed, a very, very poor nation. Still not as poor as the mountainous wasteland you call Georgia.
@@imightdeletethislater3810 My friend you have problems with math, history and statistics. Participation in the Olympic games as the independent countries: Greece from 1896 (125 years), Georgia from 1996OlympicGeorgiansparticipated in the Olympic Games as the part of the USSR, from 1952 (69 years) and have 93 medals, from this 93 medals 86 are individuals. So, from 1952 the Georgians have 119 medals ( I am not using the medals won from teams, only individuals) and 56 years less. Greetings from Georgia to our orthodox brothers.
