Thank you for mentioning neurodivergent people. I am autistic and often autistic people often have "safe foods" (not related to disordered eating) that we can always eat, and don't trigger our sensory issues. Sometimes this might be plain food like bread or plain pasta, but for me, it is pesto pasta with veggies.
Ahh yes. I feel so much better some days when I eat 2-3 plain eggs and salt for breakfast and rice, beans and canned vegetables, no spices or sauces for dinner. I don't like it because it's delicious. It's just a huge relief.
Adhd woman here. I don't eat same everyday, but I have my favourite meals that I often eat, because they are easy when I'm stressed or over my top. However I also like to try new things.
I wanted to give a neat perspective! I am ADHD, and prone to food fixations. And if I skip out on a food fixation, I totally don't feel so satisfied. I LOVE plain greek yogurt, with frozen banana, granola, and chia seeds. Every day. I feel weirdly sad if I don't get to eat it, and I have eaten every day for over a year. I definitely think for some people, eating this one favorite food every day brings so much joy. I know that some people should definitely mix it up, I can definitely understand that there are people that eat the same thing every day due to food fears, and that is super unhealthy.
I get food fixations as well and it’ll last for months but then the taste of it will suddenly start making me feel queasy and take away my appetite and then I can’t eat it at all for several months. It’s very inconvenient
I tried one based off of how much she loves them…3 months later and I’m still chewing on it 😂 hahah I could not take the texture, it was like chewing gelatin.
@@carolinelapano4615 hahahahaha yesss! I was so disappointed, I thought I would have loved them with how much she was sponsoring them and others were too.
This episode was meant for me! I’m on a weight loss journey but also really trying to focus on the mental/intuitive eating for health. Trying to find the balance of meal prepping & flexibility has been a life long challenge.
I fully admit that I meal prep some of my protein (eg pre-cook chicken breast in my air fryer for quick lunches) and then change the details within the meals around the protein. This helps me ensure I get my protein and saves me time packing work lunches and snacks. Sometimes the chicken/protein becomes part of a mezze plate other times a wrap or part of a salad. I tend to get more variety in my snacks based on what is in season and currently in my fridge. For instance this week I made homemade almond butter, so today I mixed a bit of it with Greek yogurt, an apple, and cinnamon as my afternoon snack. I think of this like puedo meal prep to save time but not get stuck in a food rut.
Sometimes nutrition is not the most important thing: I'm autistic and I eat the same breakfast and the same lunch every day because I need routines to function, it helps to avoid executive dysfunction, and I'm not good with new textures. But I agree it's far from ideal so I try to switch up what type of veggies I use. For now, the only diversity I get is from my dinners that are cooked by my parents so I'm really looking into meal prepping for replicating that when I move out!
See if batch cooking and freezing some of your favorite dinners into one serving size containers then microwave to reheat them works for you. For me it's always nice to know that after an exhausting day there's something to eat that doesn't take too much effort to get ready. If it works for you then have a few different choices frozen so you can get variety that way. Good luck with moving out☺️
I love the convenience of meal prep for my at-work meals especially because I hate having to worry about it the night before work and hate spending money on take out (I work at an airport so the food is extra pricey). Sometimes I'll freeze part of a meal prep if I start getting too tired of it throughout the week so that my food still has some joy to it, even if it means disrupting my routine.
Part of adhering to a structure that I threw away in March 2020 is trying to get back to my pre-pandmic weight. But I also just like eating the same thing for breakfast and lunch during the week. I know my avocado toast with two fried eggs is balanced and will keep me full until lunch. And unless I'm eating a bean soup for lunch, I'm not getting enough fiber in my day. I do try to have at least two chicken meals, two vegetarian or fish meals, and no more than two red meat meals in a week, but that's about all I have in terms of variety. Pre-pandemic, I was a lot more flexible about going out to eat, but now I avoid that because I don't want to get covid...ever.
I have inflammatory bowel disease and definitely developed a TON of fear over foods. I had a small amount of safe foods I would eat for years due to my flares and often times was limited to only protein shakes and soups for months on end. It took me many years to break free and try new foods. When you associate food with pain, it takes any fun out of eating. Now that I am in remission, I eat something different for every meal of the day! I see an IBD nutritionist and we talk about ways to get calories in that don’t bother my IBD. If your insurance covers a nutritionist, definitely talk to one! She helps me put together whole meals and also works with me on elimination diets.
Could you make a video on how to best eat healthy while struggling with depression or similar? 🙏🏻 Things that can be kept at home without getting old so one doesn’t have to go grocery shopping, easy to throw together, but still healthy. I find that it easily becomes a downward spiral where I don’t have the energy/will to cook, which then leads to me eating crap, which means I feel worse because my body isn’t getting the nutrients it needs.
The tips at the end for adding variety were helpful, I’d love to see a whole video on it - especially when it comes to the people you mentioned who tend to stick to similar foods. You’re right about adhd, it’s so difficult to get variety!!
This video was really interesting. I'm an adult who also happens to be an extremely picky eater. It's not a sensory issue, and I'm not interested in "clean eating" or counting macros. It's just that many things don't taste good to me. Over the years, I've been able to work in a bit of variety in breakfast and dinner, but there is really only one lunch option that I like. So I eat it every day. I'm not afraid to try new foods, I just prefer to eat what tastes good. And, for me, that's a turkey sandwich with sharp cheddar cheese and spinach. I just thought I'd leave this here to represent the fully grown picky eaters out there. Some of us eat the same thing because it's what we like. And if what we liked were written down in the form of a list, that would be one very short list.
Hi Abbey! Love your content and understand that Built Bar has been a long-term sponsor of yours... But perhaps you can look into changing the format of the ad a little bit? 😅 I think by now, we are all semi-expecting that name (and that dance portion) to come up on the screen a few minutes into the video, and it's getting waaay too repetitive and comes across as disingenuous... No hate, just a suggestion! Pretty sure the sponsor can benefit from it too 😊
Hmm I think we have to have a more nuanced conversation on emotional eating. That would include the nutritional value of common foods we eat when emotionally eating and what it could be potentially cause our bodies/health. With busy and stressful lives it’s so easy to overeat just to make yourself feel better. We cannot honour emotional hunger if it’s hurting our health
Yes, this! I used to frequently "emotionally eat" due to stress, as a kind of coping mechanism. It can be ok in moderation, like indulging the occasional craving - but doing it constantly or becoming reliant on it can be bad for both physical and mental health. For me the only thing that helped in the long term was talking to a therapist. I think unfortunately a lot of influencers don't have the background in mental health needed to talk about this in a more nuanced way
@@katr8185 yes this is the key. its normal to eat out of emotions, but when its our only coping mechanism, its a problem. i have said this countless times on YT
I personally like to eat the samething everyday because it's easy, convenient, I love meal prepping and it keeps me in my calorie defecit. I don't eat meat, little dairy, and I buy mostly organic. I guess I'm one of those people who like to eat safe clean foods.
I have ARFID so I definitely understand the safe food thing. However, for me it is not coming from a healthy food/body image place, but from more of a contamination/something is wrong with this specific food item. So I can eat the same chobani yogurt cup every morning because it is "safe". But the one morning I take it out the fridge and maybe the lid has a weird fold or it was a little too close to the door vs being deep in the fridge--nope no longer safe. On top of that, I also have ADHD. So I get so bored and tired of the same food even if I am able to find one that is "safe". It is so frustrating to not be able to eat comfortably. I am in therapy for it but don't feel like I am making any progress yet. edit; the ultimate irony is i dont even like pasta that much i just made this name when i was 12 and couldnt think of anything better lol
This is exactly what I needed. I have been prepping meal components and trying to create a more structured yet flexible way of eating, particularly as hybrid work has made my life a little chaotic. Thanks Abbey!
Hey Abby, when would you update us about your health? I am interested to know how you are doing with anxiety… anyway I hope you are getting well.. love you
What Kelly said about varying or tweaking meals once in a while but in the same rotation makes sense to me and is also how I like to mix things up . .I do need to work on relaxing in social situations but consistency does make it a lot easier to stick to my diet and not fall off the wagon !
I’m hyper active attention deficit disorder myself and every single day for years I wake up I go to the store and I get the same food and I never get sick of it ever ever and it says just planters essential mix nuts with two orange monster‘s I eat the same thing every single day for years and years and sometimes I’ll even have the same thing twice to meals if I get hungry enough I only have a few other food items that I can count on both hands and I even go to my diet but I should add I also take mixed greens which is a powder superfood every day my other favorites are avocado black beans ice cream and some kind of berries
Which essential nutrient is lacking in meat? You said there is no single food, nor handful of foods that are sufficient to give us the essential nutrients our bodies need.
From an ED POV: eating the same thing does take some of the anxiety. When i need to have something different due to whatever - i am in trouble. If breaking the food routine causes no anxiety or stress or ED behaviors then i see no issue as long as it is still somewhat balanced nutritionally
@@eveeexx that is entirely individual. I can only assume that most of these celebs who supposedly eat the same every day would do so because they found a "routine" that feels good and maintains their physique, and they are too stressed and busy to try and change it, worrying that they might not feel as good or that their body would react differently. again, assumptions.
I have Type 1 diabetes, a tight budget, and a boring job. By creating a meal plan (I used Cronometer to calculate macros, calories and nutrients), and eating the same thing every day M-F, I can maintain much better control of my blood glucose and insulin needs, avoid buying extra food that just goes to waste, and also plan my eating to prevent mindless snacking on junk carbs. This has been a game changer for me in every aspect, and it also gives me the freedom and independence to say no to poorer quality food options (like fast food lunches) or restaurants that don’t make food as good as what I make for myself. On the weekends or vacations or days off, I have more flexibility and sort of my off-plan plan. It’s working for me!
One thing I like about meal boxes like hello fresh or good food is the variety. I have had so many things I never would have had before like farro, buckwheat or soba noodles instead of my go tos like rice.
I have a "safe" breakfast (related to my ADHD, not necessarily related to disordered eating) that I eat 5-6 days a week. Overnight oats, basically. Oats, hemp seeds (I rotate in chia & flax as well), dairy free greek yogurt, vanilla stevia drops, cinnamon, and an obscene amount of frozen berries lol. I switch up the berries but it's usually blueberries or raspberries. I LOVE cherries in there too. If I'm out of yogurt, I use PB for the kick of protein.
Overnight oats are the best! I've eaten it (basically) every day since January. Even tough my base recipe is always the same, I try to mix up the toppings. I love switching up different fruits with nut butters/nuts! I might try cherries next time now :)
I do eat the same meals repeatedly but that's because I find that it helps me save money! Because I only have to "stock up" on the same list of things, it helps my uni student budget stay in check.
I’m in recovery from an ED but also neurodivergent. So it’s a constant battle of am I eating this out of fear or out of it feeling familiar and safe. I’ve really challenged myself over the years by allowing myself to snack throughout the day. Yes, the snacks are the same snacks almost everyday but it’s a start right? I also allow myself to eat out and not feel guilty about it! I’m about 4 years into recovery and I’ve found a solid rotation of daily foods that is a good mix of veggies, fruits, meat, cheese, and gluten! ☺️
I tend to repeat the foods cause it decreases the anxiety and worries of thinking about what to cook, buy and prepare but I know it is not healthy so I try to make up foods that have a lot of different things in them (like my salads usually have 5 to 6 different things) and also, I have a list of easy to do and tasty things that I like.. so I have like 3 options of breakfast, 3 options of lunch and so on.. but on the weekends when I have more time I go out of my easy recipes and cook something different..
On the digestive enzymes I don't know if this is what's going on with me. But, I have Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity. So I've been eating gluten free for 7 years. Around 5 years ago I could eat a little bit of gluten and not feel like 💩. But now if I even have half of a non-gluten free foods I feel like 💩 for up to 36 hours.
Yeah you can even develop allergies if you avoid certain foods for a longer period of time. I guess the key is to start super slow if you want to reintroduce foods (like REALLY slow, as in teaspoon amounts)
i pretty much have the same breakfast every day and vary my other meals and snacks. i'm adhd and i struggle with routine and with decision fatigue and i've found that keeping my mornings the same every day just makes my life a lot easier. i also have a lot of go to meals and snacks that are basically just any recipes that i'm familiar with just because it takes up too much mental space to try out new recipes (grocery shopping and following instructions are things i'm terrible at). so for snacks i basically either have nuts or some type of bread with butter or jam or cheese or some fruit and that's basically it lol. and for meals i can do daal rice or pasta or some type of meat and rice and i just vary the specific ingredients and vegetables and spices and stuff depending on what i'm feeling like so it just makes everything easier. or sometimes ill go through all the prep to actually make and freeze dumplings so those can become meals or snacks while supplies last
Food allergies definitely deserve to be included in this discussion. Especially when dealing with lots of different food allergies in one household, they make flexibility way harder and significantly increase the mental energy required to plan meals that aren't within a rotation of safe choices. Having a rotation of default meals that intentionally include as much nutrition and variety as is reasonably possible makes life so much easier! I have a bad habit of becoming obsessed with a food and eating it at least once daily until I get bored and move on to another (usually some type of fresh fruit when in season) but in the scheme of things it balances out.
I don’t meal prep or any of that jazz, ..But since I am one person, who has a a few big intolerances (lactose, garlic, onion, aspartame), I cook batches of different foods - divide it up into servings, and freeze it, that way I know my food doesn’t have something in it that will make me sick. Most of the time I can pull a full meal - or at least a good part of a meal, out of the freezer and just make the fresh part.
I have a tendency to buy the same & fruit vegetables, so I try to eemind myself to by something different occasionally. I've been enjoying frozen mixed veggies recently as they make me eat more of a variety instead of eating mushrooms, spinach & tomatoes all the time🤣 i couldn't imagine to eat the same meals every day, even the stuff that I love gets boring at some point.
Years ago, I ate organic peanut butter everyday for a solid year. I ended up developing such a severe sensitivity/intolerance to it, that I can’t eat peanuts anymore.😔
I live alone, so I always have to consider wether I can finish my food before it spoils. Since I eat a lot of whole food and fresh produce, I find it most convenient to stay within a theme, as switching between cuisines often leaves awkward leftovers. I've kind of settled on a circum-mediterranean, pescetarian style diet, which happens to be the most satisfying and tasty for me, within my financial means (I have to work with a fixed income), AND fits with my goals of limiting my co2 impact.
Thanks for another great video, I'm curious if others experience seasonal eating the way I do? I tend to eat more green leafy salads and pasta/potato salad in the summer with grilled veg and protein and come fall/winter the salads are replaced with soup/stew and casseroles/roasts. I think a big part of that is what's economically available in my region (New England) and maybe the combination of culture/climate. For example, the potatoe salad and Mac salad become mashed/baked/scalloped potatoes and the Tuna Mac salad becomes baked Mac and cheese, Tuna noodle casserole, etc. I can't imagine eating the same thing all year round as I never have and while I do enjoy the occasional salad,...preferably with a steak and glass of wine in the winter, the roasted chicken, Brussel sprouts and potatoes are pretty awesome too!
Thanks. I really needed to see this video. My problem is that if I'm not rigid or strict, I go crazy with eating out bad foods. So I stick to the same uber healthy diet full of veggies. My body is not loving this for some reason so I'm really trying to mix things up a bit but where I don't fall off the wagon
Since mornings are hell for me and since I food prep lunches for work, I'm trying to diversify my dinners at least a little bit. Food allergies mean I'm already limited in what I'm able to eat, but I'm trying to be better at not eating the same thing every night for dinner. If only so that it's less boring for me.
I wonder how much of this celebrity diet trend is not so much a goal of health, but a pretty normal response to busy people who's meals are often being order/prepared/delivered by someone else. Not having to tell your assistant what you want for lunch everyday is just one more thing you don't have to do in an otherwise busy schedule. But all of this health halo nonsense means that they frame it as "healthy" rather than "convenient."
I like to eat the same things regularly, it saves me money, I don’t have money to eat all these different types of meals plus it’s easier since I can’t and don’t like cooking a lot, I love to cook but not a lot.
I don’t have space in my teacher brain to make decisions about meals during the week. I am on an autopilot of an apple and cheese for breakfast, salad for lunch, and something that I’ve batched cooked on the weekend. Luckily the salad bar at school has 35-40 ingredients and multiple kinds of proteins so I’m not eating the same exact thing every day. On the weekend I am happy to cook or order takeout, but it’s just to hard during the week.
i eat the same 3 meals for years now and i still haven't died of malnutrition yet. i think saying that you have to eat different meals everyday is not just classist but also ableist
It sounds like you have a very rigid mindset and are interpreting Abbey's suggestions as directives. A lot of people eat very restrictive diets and haven't died yet but not dying from it and being well nourished are two different things.
@@AlicedeTerre well being neurodivergent definitely shows in your eating habits and i find great comfort in knowing what i will be eating. it may not be the healthiest thing but i also don't think it should be immediatly associated with an eating disorder.
Well, variation is definitely healthier (unless it’s just a variation of junk food lol), but if you feel mentally better (I don’t understand why, but maybe it’s less stressful?) eating the same that is important, too. As long as those three meals are healthy and well balanced there are way more concerning eating habits, I guess. However, I would suggest checking if you have any deficiencies from time to time if you do t already do that.
After having gestacional diabetes, I learned a lot about proper portions for me. However, if I don't have a sample for breakfast, it's so difficult to add veggies in the morning unless they're in an omelette. It sounds kinda counterintuitive to have a side salad for breakfast; but it works better for me to be flexible about dinner.
Oh my I have horrible histamine issues after horrible experience with multiple allergies that hit me at once due to contact. That bums me out about the elimination diet but my face would legitimately blow up if I ate like normal. Eek. I have absolutely stuck to a safe diet and feel better that I am breathing, reducing hive breakouts, and angioedema!
Great video and tips! I’m so glad you said we can eat oats most every morning though, they’re completely my favorite! I do vary the fruits, seeds and nut butters that I add though :) Love your built bar dance haha 💕
Can you do a video on the chicken and rice diet for weight loss? My coach has me eating this and the same thing daily. Now I am carb cycling where I don't get the rice on alternate days. Thanks!!
I kinda have an issue differentiating why I’ll get obsessed with certain foods,I definitely don’t stick to the same few rotation of meals-but I’ll also eat ramen or watermelon(or other things that just happen to peak my interest at that particular point in time) for lunch every day for a few weeks randomly and then completely stop and be disgusted by it for a while,I’ve been trying to lower the ramen consumption cause so so much salt 😅
If it's package Raman try not using the whole seasoning pack and see if you like the taste. I normally only use half the pack and I think it tastes okay
I tend to eat the same things when I eat at home. I don’t have to think about what I’m making. I don’t have to make a grocery list. When I go out I eat more interesting things. But day to day? Yeah, my meals tend to be the same thing. 🤷🏻♀️
Two fun facts - my mom developed a dairy intolerance in her 20s, which is apparently really common! And I did the opposite - I started taking probiotics and went off dairy for a while, then found when I tried it again I didn't seem to have a problem (as long as I don't do like yogurt and pizza and ice cream in one meal)
A lot of adults are lactoseintolerant bc humans are not supposed to consume milk + milkproducts after a certain age and loose the ability to break it down. If you insist on consuming these products anyway you should take lactase - the enzyme that breaks down lactose.
My breakfasts are always either half a banana with another piece of seasonal fruit, full fat Greek yogurt, nuts and peanut butter or a savoury soy milk oatmeal with beans or an egg and spinach. I just don't have the time or mental bandwidth in the morning to change things up. But lunch and dinner are never the same two days in a row, although obviously I have go to recipes that I'll return to with some regularity. I love to cook so that probably helps.
This video reminds me on Mikhaila Petersen talking about her all meat diet to find out which food worsened her rheumatoid arthritis. Luckily it worked for her!
I don't think I've ever eaten this intuitively in my life and it's damn scary. Well, except for childhood and early adolescence. But then you look around you and realize lots of people have a fucked up relationship with food and body image, including men. And you decide not to let that affect you. Every day.
That’s so true! I am trying to recover from anorexia and I had never realized before how many people around me or in general have a twisted relationship with food, it makes eating an everyday fight
lets face it, they do it because they think that's the only way to stay "skinny" health has nothing to do with it. the sad part is, you can eat a variety of foods and still be "skinny" if that's what you want or need
My body went full-on crazy this year. I cannot eat meat, I am super lactose intolerant (always have been) and now I have a severe gluten intolerance. While figuring out what I could and could not eat, I would read everywhere the red flag of eating the same things all the time. But here's the thing, knowing what I can and cannot eat and having my safe meals on hand and prepped every week has allowed me to navigate this as well and as safely as I can. Some things just taste great. I mean, if we aren't meant to harp on people for having the same coffee everyday (which, we shouldn't) then why harp on someone that has another ritual that makes them feel good? Part of my body dysmorphia was being scared at how others would view my food because I was too busy judging others for their eating patterns and food trends because I was told to view these things as terrible. Get me some avocado and egg on gluten-free bread and I'm a happy gal. As long as you are doing right by your body and mental health, you are doing it right. We need to build each other up more because all of us have felt pretty down and it's not right. Let's just be kind and eat what makes us feel good about our bodies.
As you said, as a neurodivergent I have to eat the same meal in order to be healthy because if I have to think to much about my food I will just eat crisps and other processed stuff because I don’t have the brain power to organize meals.
I think it’s a good option if only because it is way easier if you have to eat a lot of food, you don’t want to worry about what you’re going to eat much, or you prefer that Like I think switching the veggies and fruits up is a good idea but some people don’t have the time to cook all the time Not that I do that but it’s worth a try if you like structure
great video - i have tried this before - dr. oz and roizen have recommended this over the years in their diet books for the same reason you said - too many choices can cause overeating, limiting choices helps you to stay on track - also i have noticed youtubers who count calories tend to do this - i have a felling its simply because they are so sick of counting calories, this eliminates this for them because they already know the calories and then they don't have to count them. For me, this just gets so boring so fast - i can do this for one meal a day but thats about it!!!!
When I enjoy restaurant meals or when I dont eat in my usual eating times, I dont loose weight anymore. If I do it often, I gain weight. So what should I do? Mental or physical health? I usually choose my yummy meals, but this way I will never loose that extra 10 pounds.
Is there one meal, e.g. breakfast, in which you can cut down the calories? 200-300 kcal less each day should be enough. For example, I like to have a protein rich, low calorie smoothie instead of my usual breakfast or lunch (trying to lose about five pounds) and I know from experience that it works well for me. I also don’t feel like I’m restricting because I feel full afterwards and enjoy the smoothie a lot. Calorie counting might be helpful, too, if you know what amount of calories you usually eat, but only do that if it doesn’t put too much pressure on you. Just know, once you’ve lost the weight you can’t just eat the way you did before, otherwise you’ll gain it again. In the long term, yuh should change the way you eat, e.g. by not eating so many restaurant meals but more home cooked meals. Good luck!
(Y’all the bars sponsor her work. We watch this for free, stop complaining.) That said-I dont have a condition by any means, but routine and simplification makes the day much easier. I use a capsule wardrobe, eat the same thing for breakfast and lunch. I’m not boring, but you’d be surprised how easier it is to budget and focus on what’s important when you aren’t picking the next outfit or figuring out what to pick at the grocery store. Some of my most adjusted and successful friends all…simplify.
Everything is getting more expensive, so I get 3 lunch options, with some same Ingrients, 3-4 breakfast staples, with some variation, en for dinner we eat the same thing maybe once in 2 weeks, and some every week and snacks mostly te same, and sometimes what is on sale. But I love the structure for time and money
I love smoothies for breakfast. Every day, otherwise I just skip breakfast completely. For the last 3 months I have been doing the HB smoothie and I love it more and more. Definitely has to do something with my binge eating. If my breakfast is not healthy and “proper”, the chance of binging is 10x higher.
i love smoothies too - they make me feel good and are easy and yummy. i try to switch up the ingredients though, like having a few different frozen fruits on hand and switching up the fat i put in (peanut butter, chia seeds, full fat yogurt, avocado, and cashews are all good ones). it can be the same “meal” and have different ingredients!
I have ADHD and the thought of trying to get 30 different fruits and veg a week is exhausting! So I have 5 or 6 of the same veg a day and 3 fruit. I would need some one to create menus for me. Same cereal most days. I do plan to return to oatmeal again so could change the toppings etc. Life for me is so much detail and that is hard! Any ideas how I could get 30 fruit and veg. week? I have my fav Avacado, banana , kale, kiwi, orange , apple so eat them most days. I got obsessed with beets a few week ago and actually pooped purple (TMI soz) haha so cut it back a bit 😂
It is not that difficult - even with meal prep - for example: I have about 30-40 gr (3-4 tblsps) of rolled grains for breakfast = muesli, in other words I eat those like cereals with plant milk. You can rotate these every morning and choose a different mix each day composed from Oats, Einkorn, Millet, Emmer, Spelt, rye, barley, buckwheat, kamuth, wheat, teff, fonio, freekeh, amaranth, popped corn (preferably home made without fat). There you already have 16 plants to choose from. You can have them freshly made and crunchy or like overnight grains or make a porridge or pancakes out out of them. Add different fruits to it, including dried fruits. And a dollop of yogurt on top. Sprinkle different nuts on top.
I love being flexible and rigid at the same time. I often have oats 3 days in a row and switch out the toppings or have a savoury breakfast and switch out the protein. I have specific snacks that I always go to but tonight I’m probably going to try an orange for the first time in years. I have go to foods that I always want to eat but I love trying new foods.
I actually incorporate a lot of ur tips and i.e. I tried to eat what I was craving and really the novely wore out and I was so glad I was not obsessed anymore Thanks for that tip and many other more that I can't remember now lol
I don't get it Abbey. You put dangerous heavy metals from fish, which are entirely avoidable because we do not need fish, on par with fibre from vegetables and fruit which can make us feel 'bloated'. These are not comparable whatsoever. Why is a protein source on your plate always crucial, in your words, (even though the majority of people in the West eat too much protein, and you as a RD would and should know this), but a meal without "a vegetable in sight" is totally acceptable? I've never ever heard you make good arguments in these realms and until you do I will not accept your authority as a dietician. Your advice harms the planet, animals and people alike.
Thanks for the video. I'm someone who *loves* sandwiches and I pretty much eat them every day. And when I say that I mean... some form of bread, meat, veg, fat! I have an "eggy brekky sammie" most mornings but I have like 10 versions of it I like. I love a soup, salad, sammie for lunch ... again, so many combos. If I'm tired and don't cook, I'll do a sammie for take out. I'm glad you help point out it's totally OK if you like a type of food. Just keep the variety coming in the way you like it!
I have a background in nutrition, and I eat the same thing every day. I know it's not good, but when you only have $25/week to spend on food, variety suffers. Heck, I can't even afford animal products, including dairy and eggs. I'm an involuntary vegan because a B-Complex vitamin is much cheaper than animal products.
Yep agree . Her joke a of a video previous to this one showed how she fed a family of 4 with 50 dollars a week. And she says at that she was able to complete the challenge. There weren’t nearly enough calories in that haul for 4 ppl
@@Zoe-pu3pi actually she has a video on what her family has during a normal day and it’s much higher in nutrients and calories than what she bought. I have nothing against that and I’m happy she can feed nutritional meals to her family. She should have just discussed the fact that 50 a week cannot buy enough groceries for a family of 4 and lots of lower income families are in this situation. The tips were useful but there was a bigger point to be made. She just casually mentions that at that budget they would have to eat vegetarian that week. That’s significant
I haven't deviated from my daily diet in about 3.5 years. Bread at breakfast, salad with no dressing at lunch, grilled chicken with rice for dinner. I've cheated once and it really pissed me off. I haven't been to a restaurant in over 5 years. I haven't had a sweet in the same stretch of time. Food is feul. Not fun. Sorry lady.
Please talk about Ethan Suplee and the American Glutton podcast. So much "this worked for me" and "I do this and NOT THAT" with no real disclaimers. So much "knowledge" with a lack or actual data, terminology, or foundational training.
I would eat cereal 3 times a day if I didn’t eat mostly the same stuff, but I’m not rigid about it aside from laziness and lack of creativity. My husband cooks a range of dinners luckily 😂
I’m like the opposite of all these celebrities anytime I hear something new I have to try it. I need recipes so bad. I’m basic when it comes to cooking. 🍽🎀
I'm glad you liked the video! Thanks for sharing your experience❤
Pesto pasta with veggies sounds absolutelu delicious.
Ahh yes. I feel so much better some days when I eat 2-3 plain eggs and salt for breakfast and rice, beans and canned vegetables, no spices or sauces for dinner. I don't like it because it's delicious. It's just a huge relief.
Yes! 🥰As someone who has ADD on medication, I need quick and easy solutions and I am sorry to say, don't have much of an appetite
Thanks for sharing this!
I have ADHD and food fixations too!
Me too! I get them so bad and crave the particular food all day until I eat it. Every single day.
Ugh, same. “Trash can cereal” is my dessert fixation. I feel off if I don’t have it 😅
I get food fixations as well and it’ll last for months but then the taste of it will suddenly start making me feel queasy and take away my appetite and then I can’t eat it at all for several months. It’s very inconvenient
Built bars …I can’t anymore. I just fast forward
I can't stand the built bar sponsorship or the dance breaks, either. I've definitely been skipping the ad reads lately.
Ditto. We dont like the taste or texture of them. I enjoy orgain, vega, and for higher protein chocolate dipped no cow bars for the win😋😋😋
@@ravitrageravit Yeah the dance portion def feels very overly rehearsed and repetitive 😅
I think of this like puedo meal prep to save time but not get stuck in a food rut.
love this!
I get your pain. I totally eat foods for sensory relief over taste/nutrition half-most of the time.
Good luck with moving out☺️
But even switching it up from week to week isn't that abrupt of a change.
I've ate oatmeal for breakfast the same exact way every day for like 6 years
Same here. I eat Oats for breakfast, lunch & supper + protein & water
Glad that works for you!
Thank you for sharing this, rooting for you!❤
This is exactly what I needed. I have been prepping meal components and trying to create a more structured yet flexible way of eating, particularly as hybrid work has made my life a little chaotic. Thanks Abbey!
Hey Abby, when would you update us about your health? I am interested to know how you are doing with anxiety… anyway I hope you are getting well.. love you
Thank you. yes i can do an update.
What Kelly said about varying or tweaking meals once in a while but in the same rotation makes sense to me and is also how I like to mix things up . .I do need to work on relaxing in social situations but consistency does make it a lot easier to stick to my diet and not fall off the wagon !
Varying meals means rotating built bar flavors
@@robbo3132 😅
Yes! The same!!! If I try to introduce new foods to my diet I likely start to binge again 😐 happens all the time
but the food routine is the ED itself, lol. you're supposed to be anxious when eating new foods but with time the novelty will wear off.
Then there's me who gets bored if I don't try 1 or 2 new recipes every week
I think its different strokes for different folks. I need variety, get too bored with same old, and then binge on what I really want
I do eat the same meals repeatedly but that's because I find that it helps me save money! Because I only have to "stock up" on the same list of things, it helps my uni student budget stay in check.
Great video! Please do a video on Optavia 🙏
I really appreciate your thoughts on this!!
I just heard you saying “should I do it to?” and said “no” out loud . I like rotation but the same food every day for all meals would make me sad…
i pretty much have the same breakfast every day and vary my other meals and snacks. i'm adhd and i struggle with routine and with decision fatigue and i've found that keeping my mornings the same every day just makes my life a lot easier. i also have a lot of go to meals and snacks that are basically just any recipes that i'm familiar with just because it takes up too much mental space to try out new recipes (grocery shopping and following instructions are things i'm terrible at). so for snacks i basically either have nuts or some type of bread with butter or jam or cheese or some fruit and that's basically it lol. and for meals i can do daal rice or pasta or some type of meat and rice and i just vary the specific ingredients and vegetables and spices and stuff depending on what i'm feeling like so it just makes everything easier. or sometimes ill go through all the prep to actually make and freeze dumplings so those can become meals or snacks while supplies last
Food allergies definitely deserve to be included in this discussion.
Built Bar: Carbs: 21g, Sugars: 5g (including sugar alcohol) Ingredients: 30+ listed. You as a "Nutritionist" endorse this? WOW!
I don’t meal prep or any of that jazz,
..But since I am one person, who has a a few big intolerances (lactose, garlic, onion, aspartame), I cook batches of different foods - divide it up into servings, and freeze it, that way I know my food doesn’t have something in it that will make me sick.
What are the cookbooks you have on screen all the time? I see a couple there that I really like and would love to check out the other ones!
I stick to the same thing because i’m a binge eater and i obsess over food all day. it frees up my mind and gives me peace
That's a very interesting point.
Yup. Autism feels.
@@Blackandwhitecat-u9v you would think so but a lot of obese people are malnourished and in dire need of veggies lol
Great video!
Your videos help me out so much ❤
Meal prepping ( especially breakfast) does make things easy but if I had to eat the same thing every single day I’d go nuts!!!
Meal prep breakfast can be so handy!
Idk why but I really can't form habits with food. If I have to eat something more than twice a week I get sooooo bored.
Great video and tips!
I’m so glad you said we can eat oats most every morning though, they’re completely my favorite!
I do vary the fruits, seeds and nut butters that I add though :)

Can you do a video on the chicken and rice diet for weight loss? My coach has me eating this and the same thing daily. Now I am carb cycling where I don't get the rice on alternate days. Thanks!!
Is your coach a dietitian? If not they shouldn't be telling you what to eat and what to avoid 🙄

I hate meal prep I cook daily and whatever I am up to. No rotation, no rules:) I also have no hours to eat, I eat whenever I want:)
Crazy video about celebs eating crap fresh salads, but first a word from my sponsor...dry protein bars
I think I made myself sensitive to dairy. Can you reverse this? Any suggestions or resources? Should I talk to my MD or my RD?
She has had several life long serious health issues. I’m glad it worked for her as well
I don't think I've ever eaten this intuitively in my life and it's damn scary.
Oh that’s stupid Jen salad .I worked at NBC and she never ate that freaking salad and everybody talks about it all the time.
lets face it, they do it because they think that's the only way to stay "skinny" health has nothing to do with it. the sad part is, you can eat a variety of foods and still be "skinny" if that's what you want or need
Very helpful!
honestly i have the supposed jen aniston salad like twice a week it’s so good *not with quinoa tho because i hate quinoa
Great vid, thanks.
As you said, as a neurodivergent I have to eat the same meal in order to be healthy because if I have to think to much about my food I will just eat crisps and other processed stuff because I don’t have the brain power to organize meals.
Wtf- Eat what you want.
I think it’s a good option if only because it is way easier if you have to eat a lot of food, you don’t want to worry about what you’re going to eat much, or you prefer that
Like I think switching the veggies and fruits up is a good idea but some people don’t have the time to cook all the time
Not that I do that but it’s worth a try if you like structure
Can u review a molly bailys what I eat in a day video
great video - i have tried this before - dr. oz and roizen have recommended this over the years in their diet books for the same reason you said - too many choices can cause overeating, limiting choices helps you to stay on track - also i have noticed youtubers who count calories tend to do this - i have a felling its simply because they are so sick of counting calories, this eliminates this for them because they already know the calories and then they don't have to count them. For me, this just gets so boring so fast - i can do this for one meal a day but thats about it!!!!
Who else admires Abbey's consistency as a content creator? 💕 Quality and quantity: thumbs up
When I enjoy restaurant meals or when I dont eat in my usual eating times, I dont loose weight anymore. If I do it often, I gain weight. So what should I do? Mental or physical health? I usually choose my yummy meals, but this way I will never loose that extra 10 pounds.
Is there a specific reason you want to lose that weight? Is that weight loss an indicator of health to you or is it just weight loss?
I’m so sad that we aren’t getting super long videos recently! I can only re-binge old videos so many times lol! I just love your channel! ❤️
i do different things. some days i do a smoothie other days i want eggs. its always different plus the ingredients i use are different too
Everything is getting more expensive, so I get 3 lunch options, with some same Ingrients, 3-4 breakfast staples, with some variation, en for dinner we eat the same thing maybe once in 2 weeks, and some every week and snacks mostly te same, and sometimes what is on sale.
Ps I do get bored but find it stressful enough trying to get my kids to eat well 😱🙈 loosing battle I just can’t think what we should have for dinner
@@Test-eb9bj I never thought grains as plants thanks 😊🙏
So how does Sensory Specific Satiety relate to ADHD? Could you do a video on eating with ADHD?
Yes please!!!
Love salad, you can have almost anything in it and have a lot of ingediences, including fat and protein.
I actually incorporate a lot of ur tips and i.e. I tried to eat what I was craving and really the novely wore out and I was so glad I was not obsessed anymore
Thanks for that tip and many other more that I can't remember now lol
This might be one of your best videos to date. I really appreciated the specific examples at the end
I eat the same lunch everyday....I know the calories
I have a background in nutrition, and I eat the same thing every day. I know it's not good, but when you only have $25/week to spend on food, variety suffers. Heck, I can't even afford animal products, including dairy and eggs. I'm an involuntary vegan because a B-Complex vitamin is much cheaper than animal products.
Yep agree . Her joke a of a video previous to this one showed how she fed a family of 4 with 50 dollars a week. And she says at that she was able to complete the challenge. There weren’t nearly enough calories in that haul for 4 ppl
Finances are definitely a big factor!
yeah. i can’t even begin to think of variety right now.
@@Cad-k7j her kids are super young though, they wouldn’t need as many calories as her and her husband
