    I have to say that ever since cutting out sugar for the most part, my skin got SO much clearer and my rosacea almost completely went away. I also feel better overall and have more energy. I still eat carbs like oats, quinoa, potatoes, rice etc., and very occasionally a slice of cake or ice cream. But after a weekend of unrestricted sugar intake (nothing in excess, but like a birthday party with cake and lots of carb rich foods), I feel significantly worse now and I can truly feel the difference when I get back to my normal routine. I will stick to it cause it works so well for me.

      A lot of our health issues disappear when we cut out sugar, or adopt a low carb, high fat diet, which is keto! Those who went on a carnivore diet (I know, quite extreme) eliminated almost all, if not all of their health problems, mental and physical, which is intriguing!

      @@justslightly7794 look its not as easy as saying: i know a few people who did this and that and they all feel better. what you are describing is anecdotal. we have a lot of studies and data on this topic and they don't see this strong connection you describe. So I am not trying to deny your experience, but you can't write "issues disappear when we do XY" because this is just not proven.

    The issue that I have with sugar or pastas and rice, oatmeal etc is that I have a hard time controlling my appetite eating this way. I’m always hungry when I eat sugar. If I remove the sugar, my appetite is normal.

      @@Jessica_Ruth I agree, I feel like it’s a different type of hungry. It’s not like a ravenous feeling, more of like a controllable feeling that goes away with moderate food instead of the big bowls of pasta that I was used too…

      Same. I also struggle a lot with hypoglycaemia and I’m more likely to have extreme lows if I eat refined carbs, especially oatmeal for some reason. If I have meat for breakfast I’m usually fine for the day.

    Honestly I feel like this video was a little too positive, but I appreciate how nuanced you were in your explanations and such. I wish you talked about how much sugar is being added into foods nowadays, and how that is truly a contributor to the obesity epidemic (to my knowledge).

    Can you do a video examining the connection between antidepressants and weight gain (or loss I suppose)? I would be interested to see what, if any research, there is on the subject that may help explain my lived experiences.

      Yes please. When I first started on Lovan I lost a huge amount very quickly in a matter of a few weeks. Then i put on a huge amount and am now overweight. I went from 62 kilos to 82!

      In my country, psychiatrists warn you like following, if you start on antidepressants (mostly thats ssri):
      These drugs heavily mess with your feeling of hunger and fullness, so absolutely anything can happen, and its mostly unpredictable :(

      @@Thenicolathomas @patriciayoung6134 Its actually really simple science! If you look it up, its very easily explained:) I don't have the energy to explain it in exact detail right now, but i can explain it simply here: its to do with how the drug(antidepressants and opioids and such..) affect the reward center in the brain. If ur brain feels rewarded, it won't crave food that much(which is another source of happiness, bc of the release of serotonin). But it can do the opposite as well. Antidepressants interfere with serotonin, which regulates mood, but also controls appetite. And if the drug is working, and it makes you less depressed, you will have a new appetite, because now you are finally happy again, and the brain wants more happiness. Everything seems more appealing. High glycemic carbohydrates = more serotonin, which is why you probably crave more unhealthy and processed foods, which made you gain weight. The experience is different for everyone though, and remember that happiness is way more important than how anyone look. Hope you can understand my explanation;) xx

      Now I wonder where you're from since here in the UK the doctors didn't say much about weight gain at all and in fact they reassured me that I won't gain a significant amount of weight before putting me on SSRIs​ but I ended up becoming obese and the weight gain would just happen in a very drastic way. @@sini234

    Almost 80% of Americans are overweight or obese. Also you site an article that analyzes a bunch of poorly done studies to try and claim sugar is fine if you are not over weight. Info from article: Twenty-five studies (29 papers) met inclusion criteria but varied in quality and duration. Weaknesses included small subject numbers, unclear reporting of allocation, unusual dietary regimes, differences in energy intake, fat composition or fibre between conditions, unhealthy subjects, heterogeneity of results, and selective reporting.

      @@steve1711 No, is just nutrition professional bias. They have a hard time acepting that common, "normal" food needs to be severely restricted even when science is cristal clear about it. They love to sell the "everything in moderation" mantra even when it clearly doesn't work.
      Ps: I am a nutrition professional too, but disagree with my peers about this aproach.

      Yeas, exactly. And she talk like is impossible for athletes to develop diabetes at middle age when is known that they can and do. Even when consumed by muscle this insuline spike IS causing damage.
      I treat sugar like alcohol and just have it like 5 times a year : on hollidays, my birthday etc. It IS a drug, it is a refined isolated drug, no other way around it.

      And when you listen to somebody like Ben Greenfield who talks about how bad his weight lifting and activities, such as marathons were hard on his body And aged him prematurely- would trust the athlete Who experienced it more than this person who I feel is highly dubious, and pointing people in the wrong direction nutritionally and I do think that she is causing Harm to people by saying sugar is OK and giving them an excuse to eat it on the daily.

    Endurance athletes metabolize sugar very differently than a regular over weight or obese individuals. They actually use the sugar for fuel.

      Not necessarily that their body metabolize differently, all body process sugar the same. The difference lies in the fact that simple sugar break down waaaay faster than polysaccharide like carbohydrates (which is a chain of simple sugar) which provide the athletes with immediate energy. But I get what you are trying to say

      @@Bibi-c4b​​⁠no, i meant what i said. Biologically sugar is processed the same way, but there is difference from individual to individual. For example if a person has insulin resistance, their bodies does not metabolize as optimally and their metabolic response is different. but differences in the bodies abilities to process don’t require one to have insulin resistance or diabetes, this happens to a lot smaller scale as well. And same can be said about metabolizing fat as well. There is a lot of differences how efficiently bodies use energy for fuel (as you said), but there also is actual differences because, let’s be honest, at this day and age people who have optimal metabolic health are in the minority.

    Insulin resistance isn't always caused by weight gain though. That was the old view but now the body of evidence has demonstrated that IR precedes weight gain in many folks. A high sugar diet is just the ticket to get the body to become insulin resistant though. Especially in the presence of high stress, poor diet, a sedentary lifestyle, and certain medications.

      Yes. There’s plenty of type-2 diabetics who are slim and people like myself are “TOFI” - thin on the outside, [visceral] fat on the inside.

    I have to cut out added sugar almost completly, so my acne doesn't get really bad, which feels kinda restrictive, but I feel like there's no alternative

      I know everyone’s skin is different but my dermatologist said their isn’t a direct connection between the food we eat and acne. Rather some foods may increase sebum production. Accutane is really good at bringing balance to sebum production.

    I have RA and I am always hearing that sugar causes more pain and I can tell goodbye to my knee cartilage after eating that chocolate pudding. And EVERY TIME I eat something sweet I am worried that I'll get more pain, but nothing ever happens :D It's not like I consume sugar in crazy amounts, only during festivities (like a cake during Christmas), but even then I have to tell myself that it's just a cake and everything is going to be ok.

    One thing you might not be aware of is endurance athletes or anyone working out excessively hard, they're body induces autophagy (fasting for 12+hr's also causes this) hence why the effects are minimal in these individuals... awesome on this

    America has one of the highest obesity rates in the world which many scientific studies have linked to sugar intake in combination with other factors such as caloric intake. It's not the sugar itself it's what the sugar does to you. Please, no one watch these videos for health advice. Your examples of endurance athletes are ridiculously extreme. These videos are clearly only for two types of people. People who have had eating disorders (which is not most people) and people who want to feel good about themselves, which drives the majority of views.

      Also, meta analysis studies show that sugar consumption outside of an excess calorie consumption is not a problem for most people if a balanced, nutrient dense diet is present.

    Most influencers who advocate low carb diets and intermittent fasting as part of their regimen do so to combat or avoid insulin resistance - not insulin specifically. I've heard time and again that a glucose spike is normal reaction to eating - what matters is how soon your glucose levels return to normal. Anyway - I eat carbs, including from fruits and vegetables as well as the occasional serving of bread - in addition to healthy portions of proteins and fats. I believe that the near elimination of processed foods (many which contain bad carbs and trans fats) has done wonders for me. I also practice intermittent fasting (16:8) and also feel better since implementing it as part of my regime.

    Excess sugar, which we know most people have in their diet, causes insulin resistance, weight gain, inflammation and most major diseases. Sugar is "associated" with all these, because it is the main culprit.

      Consistent overconsumption of calories and food in general is what causes these issues. All meta analysis studies point out that sugar is not associated with poor health outcomes if excess calorie consumption is not present.

      ​@@rokzaneSugar, high carbs and eating 6+ meals a day will all spike blood sugar and cause insulin resistance. Also The latest analysis of 78 meta analysis by the BMJ says the opposite. The conclusion was that excess sugar raised the risk of multiple major diseases. Although big companies selling sugary drinks will fund lots of studies saying sugar is not harmful. According to your theory you can drink all the soda pop you want as long as you keep your calories low. Haha good luck with that. Have you ever heard of Skinny outside fat inside? You do not need to be overweight to have type 2 diabetes.

    As the wife of a type 1 diabetic, it royally pisses me off that my husband has to fight tooth and nail with medical insurance to get approved for a dexcom (blood sugar continue monitor) and they constantly make him to the process again anytime we have our yearly reup for insurance. And yet, these influencers who have no need for one can get one from a doctor and likely because they are buying them outside of medical need they are not getting a HUGE markup on their specific device whereas my husband will get a markup no matter what (insurance or no) because they want to capitalize on him needing it to survive. Any influencer doing it for a trend, if I see them, block on site.

      THIS!!! I’m T2, diagnosed at 14. Its a normal thing that one side of my family gets diabetes young regardless of exercise and weight. A CGM would be so helpful because the normal advice of “eat right and exercise” doesn’t work for me. Doctors test my insulin levels routinely to change my diagnosis to T1 to basically get my insurance to help me. It took 10 years to stay at a consistent A1c but how I eat is borderline disordered to maintain everything; I eat to stop shaking and not feel confused. But perfectly healthy people have them bragging about their keto life while downing a fruit salad. It feels cruel. I have T1 friends having to go through what you described and it’s infuriating to see. It’s a dystopian game of medical keep-away.

    I really appreciate that you included the combination of things in addition with sugar consumption that leads to obesity, diabetes etc. I do however actually think it is better for the AVERAGE person to be informed that sugar intake does need to be consumed sparingly. The unfortunate truth about average people here in the states - the most overweight and unhealthy country - is that sugar intake is wildly high, physical activity is sedentary, and stress is through the roof. Also, people whom are active individuals more than likely have a higher awareness about healthier food choices in general and that the message of airing on the side of caution when it comes to sugar consumption is not directed toward them.

    So it’s fine if you are skinny, physically active, and generally healthy to begin with. To be fair, that is not the majority of Americans or people who are worried about sugar consumption in the first place.

      And those people need to see a doctor and talk about their needs. It's also not hard to get your metabolism into a more stable state. Start walking daily and see a dietician. If you need mental health support, ask your doctor for help. If you don't know how to cook and plan balanced meals, that will be the hard part and you will need assistance. I turned my health around and recovered from BED within a year just focusing on balanced meal planning and setting aside one day a week to meal prep for myself.

    Tips for pre-diabetic and hypothyroid people please. My doctor has told be to lose weight to counteract prediabetics but hypothyroidism makes it so hard, even with the medication. And the tiredness and weakness is a real struggle.

      Is the hypothyroidism being adequately treated?
      A blanket “just lose weight” statement from a doctor without other forms of support, especially if you have a comorbidity of something like hypothyroidism is straight-up fat bias, NOT healthcare.
      Addressing the hypothyroidism is critical when it comes to helping you feel good enough to even start something like an exercise program that could help the pre-diabetes.

      Typically it’s not md’s who make these recommendations because they are not scientifically or evidence backed. It’s usually alternative providers because they need to justify their billing and their “advice” needs to be amorphous and vague enough to create a placebo effect. There have been many articles written about it concerning many conditions in serious peer review journals

    TW! Abby do you think you could do an in depth video about how drug use can potentially cause eating disorders or worsen them? I think it would be nice to see you spread awareness and also scare people into not getting into drugs. I’m 23 but when I was 18/19 I wasn’t around the best people and my drug of choice made me go from overweight to underweight in a few months and once I realized I was skinny for the first time in my life my eating disorder went out of control and I looked like a chewed up toothpick that’s been left under a restaurants salad bar since the 80’s

    I’ve lived in Spain for the last few years and I’ve just recently visited the US… I was shocked to see how enormous people have become. Almost everyone I see is either very overweight or obese. How can anyone possibly defend people eating themselves to death?

    Added excess sugar in donuts or other highly processed white starches or sugar as an emptying calorie in soft drinks are still bad. But in a nutrient loaded substance like fruit or whole grains it is not bad basically 😊

    I know for absolute sure that sugar affects me very unpleasantly for a day or two after I consume more than a couple of grams. I know that what the way my body feels, and the depression that comes over me and I know what the scale says. And the scale says I gain weight after each episode of sugar so for some people who are not obese, and you do get some activity and exercise sugar is still very affecting as is seed oil, such as canola,soy,sunflower Which also contributes a huge amount of inflammation .

    I actually stopped drinking orange juice for a while because of the fear mongering that it was harmful due to fructose until I saw reason and returned to my routine of one small glass at breakfast.

      I mean an orange is better by itself, but if you’re pairing that juice with fiber from other sources throughout your day or even in that meal (and protein and healthy fats) then it’s not a problem unless you are doing ALL of the not bad in small quantities foods in the same day. I know I can do orange juice-but I’d rather feel freer to eat other treats that I’m trying to balance with fiber. I just like other things more. I drank OJ for years out of habit without thinking about it. It’s an easy cut for me for overall health. I just don’t crave it or need it to be joyful. You just shouldn’t do it all you know? I tend to only OJ when I visit my parents at home. It’s Nostalgic. But you can pry regular cake or chocolate from my cold dead hands😂

      @@AbbeysKitchen that is terrible advice. An 8 ounce glass of orange juice contains at least 20g of sugar. The per day allotment by the American Heart Association for women is 25g. Between your bread and occasional cookie, etc you are on your way to diabetes, dementia, Alzheimer's, fatty liver, cancer and other diseases.

    So the amount you should eat is just added sugar?! I was thinking fruits were included in this since they are high in sugar and meet the daily max. What about açaí bowls are they included is a hunger crushing combo?

      just the added sugar. acai bowls can be included but they also do have added sugar so that sugar shoudl go towards the tally

      As long as they have enough protein and fat to balance out the sugar. Frozen Acai puree has been stripped of a lot of its fiber, so I would just be mindful of how much you are using, and maybe blend it with some plain yoghurt.

      Fruit juice isn’t a whole food. Smoothies are the whole fruit blended up, including the fiber and protein.

      Yes. Any fruit juice is “refined”.
      Whole, uncooked fruit (NOT smoothies or juices) is the only form of fruit that is truly “unrefined”.
      Blending the fruit increases the surface area enough that the effect of will hit your blood as fast as the juice.

Sugar consumption kept within our individual calorie needs is not a problem, and that's exactly what Abby said in this video: to keep added sugar consumption within the accepted nutritional guidelines. Most people do not do this.

      @@rokzane calories intake has stayed the same in last 100 years. Refine sugar has increased drastically. Though, portion control is very important. I can agree to that. Refine sugar is totally different from fruit. It has to do with insulin sensitivity. Whole fruit increase insulin sensitivity while insulin sensitivity decreased with Refine sugar. And, yes aware what she said about guidelines and she right about that. But, that's not happening with average American.

      Sugar in whole foods doesn’t cause cancer. When you eat more carbohydrate or sugar then Vitamin C has to be increased to protect the body. Eating fruit will naturally have Vitamin C.

    I’m sorry Abby.. I normally look up to your videos for science and facts, but this is simply wrong. It’s almost like you’re paid to make this video. Really sorry, but your video doesn’t explain the increase of diabetes in India and America, vs lower levels in Europe or Japan. I was diabetic for many years before I fixed it just by cutting out sugar and carbs for a few months. But according to you my body just magically healed, coz sugar can’t be the enemy.. cutting out sugar and excess carbs solved a lot of my health issues including diabetes, fatty liver, high cholesterol, obesity and high BP. The kicker was when you said correlation does not equal causation… WHAT! That’s like says driving drunk doesn’t causes accidents.. it’s just a higher correlation 😅Sorry Abby, you misfired on this one. It’s spreading the wrong message and makes it that much more difficult for people to get their health back in control.

      If you hadn't spent years over consuming calories and food your body didn't need, you would not have developed those conditions. I was on the brink of pre-diabetes, and got it under control by finally getting treatment for BED, focusing on balanced meals, more protein, no snacking, more exercise. The result was I was finally eating within my calorie needs. I didn't cut out sugar and sweet treats. I made them fit within my meal plans and calories. I lost 60 pounds within 2 years.

      @@rokzane I’m not saying that sugar is poison, I’m saying that spreading the message that you don’t have to worry about sugar and underplaying the effects of sugar on the body and calling it ‘correlation’ is illogically dismissing science for the sake of making people feel less guilty about consuming excess sugar. This video would make people believe that sugar is ok and it’s ok to eat cakes and pastries after every meal.. Diabetes and heart disease is not all roses and sunshine like her cavalier tone in this video. I wish she would also talk about the effects of excess sugar, and amount of sugar that can be consumed per day, just the way she talks about how much protein to consume everyday. That would make this a well rounded video.

      Did your doctor put you on HRT? Has your thyroid function been analyzed by an endocrinologist? A lot of women who have had to have hysterectomies before the age of 45 go through early menopausal changes, even if they were left with their overies, and thyroid function becomes compromised as well. I would go see an endocrinologist.

    Abby, you got me with the Built Bars. They sounded so delicious, I ordered a mixed pack online… they taste better than any other protein bar I’ve tried (aside from Cliff Bars), but boy were they chewy as hell lol. The puff kind are basically marshmallow inside, I thought they were going to be crunchy, I do not like marshmallows at all. The regular kind were like a super chewy fudge that sticks to your teeth and takes forever to eat, I could only get through half of one. I don’t know how you do it! The flavor was ok but I won’t be buying them again. Just wanted to post this here for anyone thinking about buying them so they know what to expect. I know somebody out there is bound to really enjoy the texture!

    The poison clip was a jump scare lol I saw a video yesterday that stated eating frequently (like snacks between meals) causes chronically elevated insulin, which leads to insulin resistance and eventually type 2 diabetes. Please tell me this isn't true! I can't only eat 3 meals a day, I would starve. Plus, who doesn't want a little snack to tide them over between meals?!?!

      If you have to snack often between meals, maybe consider that your meals are not substantial enough, especially with protein? I don't need a snack that often, but I make sure my meals have 30g of protein on average and a high fiber carb.

    As a person in actual ED treatment. Don’t forget that the human body isn’t meant to be THIN unless that’s your natural body type. Body fat is a good thing.
    You won’t really lose weight if your mental health isn’t right. That’s all ED treatment is, is getting your anxiety under control.
    I was healthy at 23 when I cut my body open for my first weight loss surgery. 10 years later I had my second.
    My physical pain didn’t decrease when I lost 150 pound because fat wasn’t what put the bone spurs on my spine.
    My labs didn’t get better because they were in normal range.
    The only thing that changed was my resting heart rate. Which was never abnormal, just on the “high” side of normal (at 33, not 23). But if I track the data, that happened when I started walking and stretching.
    So the only piece of advice that has ever helped my health is to walk 20 minutes a day, and it was a RUclipsr that put it into manageable terms.
    And no one ever said it so simply to me. I was blamed for sitting too much at work, by a sitting doctor. I never had a doctor refer me to a physical therapist. I went on my own and learned how to strengthen the muscles that need to be stronger.
    I’ve had my carpal surgery denied because “if I lost weight, the fat wouldn’t be pushing on my carpal tunnel.”
    I’m unbelievably strong, have a lot of love, support, and drive. But the most harmful thing to ever happen to my health is the obsession with weight I got from being told I have control of my health.
    A simple pelvic tilt exercise daily, a few stretches, and engaging my transverse abs has cause me more pain relief than losing 150 in a very unhealthy way.
    If you care about people’s health. If you really do worry, you shouldn’t. The stress of being disliked for being fat is way more harmful to our bodies than the excess fat we carry. There is a stronger correlation to cortisol and obesity than there is sugar and fast food.

    After struggling with a restrictive ED, these past few years of recovery I'm all about eating a balanced diet that includes all food groups without restriction. I'm in shape, and a healthy weight But i do think i eat too much sugar. I eat a TON of veggies and fruit, purely because i love them, but I'm a sucker for a cookie with my coffee, a piece of chocolate after lunch, honey in my yogurt etc. Where I'm pretty sure i eat more sugar than i should. But i don't want to fall back into the restrictive mindset 😅 so i just keep hoping that of i listen to my body long enough it'll eventually chill out with the sugar cravings

      I find that once I quit sugar (including bread pasta and rice) for a few days, I begin to not crave it. I think this because my blood sugars become more stable, without the drops (the "crash") after eating so many carbohydrates which causes you to crave them again. Once I do have a little bit after a while, I don't really want much more because I am so used to eating in this new way. Another tip for curbing sugar cravings (and reducing hunger) is 1 - 3 tsp apple cider vinegar in a cup of water. It also reaps a lot of other benefits such as gut cleaning, being good for the good bacteria and killing the bad, whilst sugar feeds the bad bacteria in the gut and diminished the good ones. It needs getting used to but I love it now :)

    Love your videos 💞 I thought of you this 4th of july weekend when one of my friends wouldn't eat ANY of the traditional foods everyone was enjoying bc she was doing a "detox/cleanse" 🙄 i tried to be empathetic to her obviously rocky relationship with food. But i also felt like i was judging her a little bc it is frustrating to watch.       I think that sometimes we can be on diets or cleanses in a healthy way. Do you know that she has an unhealthy relationship with food? Every time I am able to get through a week of clean eating (no refined carbs and eating mostly healthy foods) I feel great satisfaction afterwards and have no regrets missing out! I feel great mentally and physically

    I agree with SOME of what you say, but i almost get the impression after watching this video that you think you are talking to an audience that is mostly healthy and they can do what you say in a controllable way lol.
    90% of Americans are metabolically unhealthy and you basically gave them the go ahead to consume sugary treats once in awhile and anyone with common sense knows damn good and well that never works out because of how addictive it is. Once a week leads to twice a week, twice a week leads to three times a week and then it becomes every day. Then fatty liver comes, obesity, type 2 diabetes along with other complications.
    And I get sick and tired of T2D being hereditary getting half if not 2/3 the blame for people having the disease. It just gives people an excuse to not want to do anything about it when it's just simply not true. T2D is a bad diet disease because of too much sugar, too many refined carbs, lack of activity, etc. Quit blaming it on grandma Marjorie, Uncle Teddy and cousin Justin.
    To whoever watched this video and is already obese, insulin resistant, type 2 diabetic, etc, I can assure you even if T2D is in your genes, you can control/reverse it by diet alone and DO NOT think it's okay to enjoy a sugary treat every once awhile. If you do... post on here if that works out for you or not.
    Oh yeah...and not everyone is in shape enough to be a Tour De France bike rider and consume 500 grams of sugar a day and burn it off in 2 hrs.
    Be realistic who you are talking to...

      It's only "hereditary" because our feet are under the same table. Kids learn from their parents. My mother has disordered eating habits so therefore my sister and I have disordered eating habits.

From what I've learnt in my psychology studies (it's a different field but I'd suppose the rules are the same) you base such conclusions on, for example, separated siblings/twins living in different environments. It's important when asking the nature vs nurture question, since our parents (nature) are also the ones who nurture and influence us. I don't remember other methods, but I trust science uses reliable methods

      @kateri17 because despite how their body works at a cellular level, they wouldn't be obese if they weren't eating crap foods and/or sedentary. Sure, some people's weight might be mostly genetic driven, but those people are few and far between. I do nutrition counseling daily, particularly with the overweight/obese and diabetes population. It would be extremely difficult to become overweight or develop Type 2 diabetes on a whole foods diet. As the saying goes.... genetics load the gun, but environment pulls the trigger. Genetics get blamed too often for things that are largely lifestyle related.

There are many cases sited of raw milk dairies being found deficient in sanitation protocols, and outbreaks of food born illness have been linked to raw dairy. The only way I would drink raw milk is if I owned the cow and was milking the cow myself.

    Hey would it be possible to leave the body shots out of the thumbnails? I already wrote a comment about this on another video of yours but you probably didn’t see it. I think the body shots are kind of misleading, especially when you talk about people not eating enough (in diet review videos ) but still use their *mostly* skinny body which they achieved by that diet in your thumbnails. I don’t know if you do it for aesthetic reasons or if you just know that people with body dis morphia or disordered eating will be more likely to click on it. Either way it would be great if you could change that maybe. I still love your videos though :)

    I really like your videos Abbey but it is so distracting talking and fiddling around with food, chopping with knife etc. at the same time as presenting the information. it will be far less distracting and much easier to focus on what you say with the way you normally conduct the videos. You present really well with just you speaking and not fiddling with food prep

    This video is exactly what I needed, I have problem with eating too much candy and some soda. Basically eat around 1.5kg candy every week and around 3-4 bottles of soda. Don't eat so much normal food so have been able to remain somewhat thin (23.0bmi).
    Have been trying to cut down on my candy intake but it's difficult. Since I walk 30-60min everyday and do strength training twice a week I'm glad that I'm atleast healthy anyway. Will still try to cut down on candy just incase Abbey is wrong. But her example with atlhletes give me relief.

    Sugar isnt that bad. People just have crazy cravings because they arent eating satisfying and balanced meals and think the concept of getting more steps in during the day is crazy

      Halo Top also contains a high amount of sugar alcohols, which causes G.I. distress for a lot of people. My stomach does not like that stuff. I mostly make my own no churn freezer ice cream where I can control the macros and sugar content.

    After this video I still disagree with your claim refined sugar is responsible for diabetes.
    Agree low activity and obesity are contributing factors, but at the end of the day it's your pancreas being overworked by sugar, being obese and low activity makes it even harder to work but it's still the insulin process that's becoming less effective and it only becomes less effective through excess sugar.
    I feel like that is a direct enough link, and it feels like you're saying the equivalent of "drinking water doesnt keep you hydrated" and explaining it's the water molecules absorbing into your body's cells that keeps you hydrated. Like yes but no?

    I'm very thin and active but have bad genetics and struggle to keep my blood sugar down. I panicked when a lunch of white rice with cooked veggies with salsa caused my blood sugar to spike to 279 two hours post eating. :-( Needless to say, I've not eaten that since. I've forced my fasting sugar down into the low 100s today, but my fasting number SHOULD be 80. There are some of us odd folks who don't need to lose weight but have bodies that struggle to handle even quality foods. I was in the 200s after a bean sandwich on whole wheat bread and a salad years ago.

      Are you vegan? The meals that you mention seem high carb and not good options if you struggle with elevated blood sugars.

      Have you been tested for diabetes? I have type 1 and that’s kinda what my blood sugar does after very high carb meals. If you haven’t you may wanna have an A1C test done to see if it’s elevated and see if further testing is needed… 🤷🏼‍♀️

      That meal is devoid of protein and healthy fats. It would spike anyone's blood sugar to a high level.

      A high blood sugar spike after a carb heavy, low protein meal isn't a problem in itself. It's the length of time your blood sugar stays elevated that tells the story. This should be evaluated by a doctor.
