I am not surprised that the food coloring impeded the hardening of the materials; it is handy because food coloring, while very good for frosting is really fugitive and will fade with exposure to light. I used to dye fabrics and found out that those beautiful purple pokeberries would go grey brown in a short period of time, alas.

Hi Steve, I did a similar test with the ResiCrete. However, instead of adding the coloring to the mixed mixture. I added the coloring to the water. It works like a charm.
Have you already done a comparison b/w the ResiCrete and Aqua Cast? I tried to add temporary tattoos to the ResiCrete but it did not take/lift if from the mold, nor dit it take it on the cured outside.
No problem to add temporary tattoos to cured Aqua Cast. I have not yet tried to put the tattoos in the mold prior to pouring the Aqua Cast.
Thank you so much for all the helpful experiments you do, which safe us a lot of time and $.

So I'm assuming because the item you made with the mold was a thicker item, it will take longer for the innermost, deepest part of the mold to cure. That's been my experience, anyway. You might need to let it cure for several days if it's thick and deep. This is based on my experience using plaster and perfect cast, which is a quick drying plaster alternative that is 5x stronger than plaster. Not sure if it's similar to either of the products you're using.

Would a hardness test tell us this? As for the food coloring, can it be used in resin? If that is the case, how color fast is it? Thank you for your video, now I may have to try this product out. This stuff is just fine art plaster + a binder. Some use PVA binders while others use latex; you can get huge jugs of latex concrete binder for cheap from hardware stores. Just about any pigment or paint outside of oils can be used for coloring though the richness of the color and its evenness might not be what you want if you go the DIY route.

well, constructive advice first: You're supposed to measure the amount of dye and it's not to exceed 5% I'm told? so just tossing in a teaspoon, is that a good idea? Also, 24 hours before demold is not advised either; it will sweat. Demold as soon as it's hard. Looking at how it was mixed, in such a small container, I doubt that one piece that didn't cure was mixed well enough. Slow down, my friend. there isn't a time limit.
