    Decided to go a slightly different route for this install video, especially since we had the amazing help from the technicians over at Baertrax. I chose to focus a little more on the information this time around rather than the step by step process.

    It's always crazy seeing Yukon Gear and Axle products in shops in videos I've watched. About 23 years ago i worked at the company that created that brand, Randy's Ring and Pinion, now known as Randy's Worldwide. Kinda bummed to find out Randy sold the company but I'm sure he's out enjoying his life instead of hanging around the shop all the time lol

    Had a guy on our last outing going up a hill and had exactly what you’re talking about happen. U joint snapped which then snapped ball joints and next thing ya know wheel, caliper rotor everything snapped off the Jeep. Took us 6 hours to get him off the trail and onto a trailer. So glad I put RCV in mine. Seriously though the bungee cord is the oldest trick in the book. Always carry a bungee and bailing wire

    Thank you. I have been afraid of my Dana 30 breaking. I was thinking about how to replace it, but now I see I can just upgrade the axles.

    These axels are a great idea , I had a 1992 Cherokee with u joints and if you live in the north where it’s snow and damp on the road a lot like Michigan and around these u joints on your jeep will rust and dry out and fail and fall apart from rust and you end up replacing them every 4 or five years . This is a great replacement instead doing the u joints

    I already did the RCV Front axles in my 2008 JKUR back in 2010 when I changed gears to 5.38's.. Just be sure you grease them regularly, thru the end. Uses a needle point gun tip. Jeep had I think roughly 10k on it when installed. Am at 61K now. Running 35" tires. I also did inner and outer sleeves along with C-gussets to the axle housing. Made my own truss. So, front end is stout now.. Never a bit of problems all this time off roading, or using the SNOW PLOW (Western HTS 7.5) here in NE Okla..

Because I've been wheeling for over 15yrs and have rarely seen throttle control as good as Kevin's, especially with drive by wire. I see so many drivers doing the lunge, brake, lunge brake, lunge brake. You definitely need to include how to throttle control over an obstacle.

    Had you done research on the benefits of fully floating axles as an alternative to the RCV axles? A comparison of costs between the two would be interesting. Also, with a broken axle it doesn't appear that the CV axle would remain functional. That is, you would still have to replace the axle to retain the wheel in order to get off the trail. Great work you guys! Informative and entertaining as always!

    Unless you modify the steering stops, the u joint will never bind to the point of breaking. I’d rather the fuse be a u joint and not the ring and pinion...

    • @victorkraft9585
      @victorkraft9585 5 лет назад

      Kevin Williams, I’m not saying it doesn’t happen and for your tire size it make sense to upgrade. The misleading point is indicating the rcvs have greater range of motion, even if they do, the steering is the limiting factor. Same thing with have super long shocks, springs will unseat long before you realize the full potential of the shock. A good chromo shaft does the job too, there’s a reason why dynatrack, Currie, g2 and spicer all use u joints.

    Bad idea. Now your weak spot is the pinion rather than your axle shaft.

    • @dmgmail7021
      @dmgmail7021 4 года назад

      I hear that alot. But isnt that a fundamentally flawed reason. Example if your axle is flexed out and tires cranked hard one side, lockers engaged obstacle is climbing large bolder, the binding of the u joint plus as the u joint rotates while full tilt makes the tires turn fast slow fast slow even tho the speed is constant and steady aka cradle walking ...isnt that torque being stressed to ring and pinion and lost in your ring and pinion that never reaches your tires?? Sure rcv will be stronger then RnP and will break 2and if it comes to that but by eliminating your bind and cradle walk arent you know getting more out of your ring and pinion then you would before the break point when useing a ujoint? I'm not arguing where we'd prefer something to break but rcv is stronger and the elimination of binding combined with even movement and torque thru all radius of the outer axle has essentially eliminated that push back resistance that goes right back to the RnP. I would argue by using RCV the stress you free up on your rnp could be like making your 37 feel like a 35 to the rnp and the result is more torque coming thru the front drive shaft ends up reaching your tires and not lost in the middle??

      Michael Heflin the cv on the jk would blow out due to the angle when you lift it. The double Cardin u joint on the new driveshaft is better for that new angle. But you also need to get the R&P angle right with a double Cardin driveshaft. The joints are going to be the first that fails** my shaft is a 1310 in the front and going to get a 1350 for the rear. The reason is I want my u joint to fail on the front before my R&P or a transfer case gear.

    Because RCV doesn't make replacements for Dana 35 rear axles, do you know who makes something similar? I don't want to have to put a Ford 8.8" in my Jeep YJ as I just replaced my open diff that blew up the spider gears driving home last summer.

    I’m wondering if you went with the full game changer MetalCloak if that would have any affect on fixing the wobble. Being it would have the adjustment of the control arms

    • @bradcampbell7253
      @bradcampbell7253 5 лет назад

      DW can be small amount of wear in many parts. sometimes one part is the culprit. all one brand would be of no real benefit except for sales

    • @real-talk_5304
      @real-talk_5304 5 лет назад

      Brad Campbell I’m not saying all one brand. They still have stock lower control arms. So that 3.5”s of lift is causing the whole front axle to rotate changing the angle of it and the angle that the front drive shaft connects to the axle. I’m just saying maybe the full kit that helps correct that would help with wear and eventually wobble. A new steering stabilizer is just a bandaid.

    Since performing the axle shaft swap which removes the FAD, have you had any problems engaging the front axle? When Dynatrac built the Code 1 JL and swapped in D60 axles, they also wound up having to remove a synchronizer in the transfer case.
