Heracles is the accurate to Greek stories name. Hercules was the Roman variation. So in stories like Jason and the Argonauts, yes it SHOULD be Heracles.
This game was fun. I don't remember how or why I got it, I swear it just materialized one day in my pile of PS3 games. But I remember after putting off playing it thinking it would be boring or dumb just binging the whole game.
I bought this game when it came out specifically because I'd heard Atalanta was in it. I remembered her portrayal by Everson from the Hercules tv show with Sorbo and she was my first beefy girl crush. Game version was pretty awesome, but damn do I miss that tv version of her, lol.
This is an underrated gem for sure! The combat is a bit clunky and the FPS drops get bad but I was really surprised with the depth of characters and dialogue. Just picked this up for the PS3 and had a blast with it!
I knew i wasn't crazy, I watched your "Never Dead" video from the same generation of consoles and I couldn't get over how good that game looked for a 360 game. Now seeing this game its no contest, this game looks like a 360 game, Never Dead looked really good graphics wise for the time.
This was the first game I played on my current PC like 8 years ago, it was really special for me cus it was after a pretty long hiatus from PC gaming since I used only Mac for about 6-7 years (only thing I miss is finder and the amazing trackpad, windows explorer is trash), loved it :D kinda wanna give it a second go.
And here was me thinking I was the only person who actually remembered this game. The PC version needs help, it's a console game shoved onto PC. It's nowhere near as deep as it should be. "Mass Effect in Greece" is SUPER generous.
I pirated this on the PC back in the day and I don't remember anything that was inherently bad with the game. Mass Effect but in ancient Greece is a good comparison.
I wouldn't mind seeing more of this. And if you love the Greek myth stuff then indulge yourself. You shine the brightest when you talk about things you love. Blessed by Apollo this one. ^_^
@@soerpoet340 woot, SEGA Saturn... But seriously Herc's Adventures would be a cool and oddball choice for a playthrough, especially to see Matt's reaction to it. 😁
Mass effect but ancient greece?!?! I'm sold!! I too sold all of my ps3 games when I needed money...now that I actually have a job, I'm finding all of my old favorites on ebay
I like this game because most of the choices you could make weren't binary good or evil stuff. It was a lot more nuanced and complicated reflecting the nature of the four gods each answer emphasised. It shows how much the developers loved and knew ancient Greek mythology and it's shame what happened to them.
What a coinkydink, I just bought this game for PC out of the blue the other week. It's obviously janky and awkward, but I was pleasantly surprised by the writing - you can feel how passionate the devs were about Greek mythology.
All my knowledge of Jason and the Argonauts comes from the Jeremy London TV Movie, just like with The Odyssey. When this being showcased on X-Play, I got hyped, because this was a decently budgeted Greek Mythology game, which wasn't about Kratos. Looking at it now, WOOF...This aged like Ithaca cheese. (Yes, that is Robin, also Brian Bloom, BJ Blazkowicz and Jackie Estacado himself, voices Jason)
it may not be a roman mythology game or anything but id love to see you do dantes inferno, also the racing game blur, havent seen another video it would make sense to ask for on this channel yet XD
Even at the time I thought this game was a little tough but I loved it anyways. Had a great time. I remember literally almost nothing. Maybe worth popping back in someday. Matt calling it Greek Mass Effect is a bummer though. Not because he's wrong but because I'd rather live in the world where the game starring *The Argonauts* was the smash hit franchise that got a bunch of sequels.
How long before Codemasters is dead? EA did buy them , Toes 700 people better start finding new jobs fast as EA is not one to give you time like Disney in finding a new job.

Ah, Jason and the Argonauts. The world's first ever crossover fanfiction.
I'm surprised that they gave Jason an actual Greek complexion.
I unironically love this game.
It should not work, absolutely should NOT... but it does.
Why should it not work? It is a classic w-rpg in style with an old school approach to world/level progression.
I'll give the game props for disguising the doors that automatically open as being opened by servants, that's actually a little charming.
Oh man, loved this game as a kid.
This game was fun.
I don't remember how or why I got it, I swear it just materialized one day in my pile of PS3 games.

Ryse: Son of Rome should be right up your alley.
Yeah that would be a fun game for the channel. 👍
Would love to see one more video of this and see how it PANs out

This game gets really good. Great voice work and armor/character design for that time.
When my friend and I saw this in stores, we'd also laugh thinking it looked like a Greek Blackadder.
I player this game about 11 years ago and I still remember how Hard it was to fight Achilles.
And his cocky ass taunting me still makes me rage lol
I recently watched Jason and the Argonauts. Great film.
This is an underrated gem for sure! The combat is a bit clunky and the FPS drops get bad but I was really surprised with the depth of characters and dialogue. Just picked this up for the PS3 and had a blast with it!
This looks like the exactly level of eurojank that I expected from a Rise of the Argonauts game

Crazy how this was my first game to play on PC as well on my first laptop. Didn’t run well.

Playing this game right now. Loving it
When I saw previews of this, I was hyped. Bought the game and finished it. I knew the game wasn't good, but somehow I had to finish it.
I pirated this on the PC back in the day and I don't remember anything that was inherently bad with the game. Mass Effect but in ancient Greece is a good comparison.
Gladius... GLADIUS... GOD DAMN GLADIUS... AHem... no ones played it
yeah, continue to play it.

Nice “Wayne’s World” reference!
THANK YOU
Jason getting used as a set piece in GoW 2 was really sad for kid me. Especially after reading the mythology in school.
@@philipsalama8083 true, true. But hey, at least some speaking lines, right? Like in the GoW comic where it's Kratos who murks him lol
