I love how so many of us agree we didn’t know that some people don’t cut their mango like this. My parents did it for all my childhood because I was the messy kid lol
Same! I will always remember my mom giving me and my brother "mango turtle" and I will stand shirtless on our backyard (we have high walls and stuff so no noisy neighbors) cuz I was extra messy
I did what you do but instead of cutting it into cubes, my family goes through the skin and cuts it into slices slightly thicker than that. Than we eat it off the skin. If the skin is sweet we’ll eat the skin, if not we throw it away. My grandfather will eat the mango off the seed and then he’ll either throw it away or plant it.
@Bhumika Gupta Wait you ate the seed? 🤣 I love mangos and once I cut one open and there was a hole in the pit that contained the seed So I took the knife and kept slamming it against the board and cracked it enough to see what was inside cuz I never knew what the inside look like and I found exactly what you described and it did look like a giant kidney bean and I did the same thing. 🤣 I didn't eat it though I just took a nipple of it to see what it tasted like then I planted it and it died. I live in Michigan so it had no chance.
We peel the mangoes then just slice the flesh off the seeds. Mangoes in Thailand are also eaten when they are still green and crunchy so it would be hard to pull this kind of thing off.
Depending on the mango If it's pretty firm and I an the only one eating it I cut it in half horizontally around the pit twist it open take out the pit (again by twisting) and eat it with a spoon like it's a mango cup. If the mango is really soft and ripe I peel it and cut it up into chunks If it's super duper soft I just take the skin off with my hands and just go ham amd eat around the pit until it's a dry hairy mess.(this is pretty messy) Also side tip slightly warm/toasted mango is pretty good, it can even be good on pizza(like pineapple)
My dad lived in the Philippines until he was a teenager and this is exactly how he cuts mangos. Although I barely eat it the first way, he always scraped the chunks out.
I. EAT. MANGO. SKIN Specially when its still green, just add salt, pepper and lemon :) And i just cut them like half moons... Like a potatoe :) tasty mango potatoe xd
Thanks for the video! I'm doing shish kabobs in a couple days and I'm going to put mango on the skewers! (Along with chicken, red onion, bell pepper, Cherry tomatoes and pineapple 😋)
my abuela grows mangoes in her backyard but its the small sweet kind with the large pit and i remember just rinsing them off with water and eating them like an apple
Cut in half, pull out the seed with some good grip strength (and a paper towel) and then use a spoon to eat the 2 mango ‘bowls’ created and then nibble the seed! Super easy and very clean!
So I'm originally Egyptian and I learned this thing in egypt so what you do is so squeeze a ripe mango a bite then you bite the side and like drink the juice the ykoun peel of the skin also with your teeth lol and eat around the seed it's a bit messy but totally worth it
I would use this but I’m allergic to mangos and I gotta carry around a epipen so I wish I could try this and that’s so cool how you could do that at such a young age!
In India we just wash them REALLY WELL, cut them up in 4?? no 5 pieces (w skin except for the seed and only once), then (okay this might seem wierd but I PROMISE it isnt and is somewhat fun!!) we like take a piece, put it between our teeth and pull the piece which scrapes the pulp and its in our mouths, just like that!! I'm sorry Idk if I did a good job explaining that 😅!!
Everyone who cuts like that has just tasted a specific variety of hybrid mango lol.. If you come to India (Literally the mango king of the world) in summer season you'll find different kinds of mangoes.. If you'll come to the countryside then you could easily pic your own fav mango from the trees itself.. Like I've eaten small sized mangoes (It is impossible to cut them so you've to like suck the juice out of the top..) Medium sized mangoes contain some roots so cutting them into cubes would not work..So we just cut them and eat it as whole..And the big sized mangoes are like the best..Some of them get squishy so you won't be able to cut them as cubes too..😶😶.. I've never seen anyone cut their mangoes like this in India.. I don't hate this way..I love this..I myself use this..But just saying that it's not the only way as people are saying..
This is the way I like my mangoes cut. When I was little, I went to a restaurant and for dessert we had mangoes (I don’t know why that was qualified as dessert, but I didnt mind). They cut the mangoes like this and ever since then I always asked my mom to cut them this way :)
We just eat it from the skin, scrape it off with the teeth. Sorta like just biting off the chunks. It's faster then the cube method, but won't look very elegant in front of others out here. Method from Pakistan and India :))) Basically it's cut twice, on either side of the seed. Then you just eat off it! And suck at the seed!
If you're a Filipino or raised in Philippines, you know this is the traditional way to cut one. Secondly, you would cut the sides or just suck the remaining mango flesh from stuck from the seed lol
The cup trick is a lifesaver for me, I get the whole thing in 2 seconds and then I'm able to cleanly cut it into slices or chunks as big or small as I want. I find that it leaves literally NO mango struck to the skin, not even a spoon can do as good a job. Not all cups do it, I have a favorite cup to peel mangoes with a pretty thin lip. Thicker cups are messier.
Tbh, our family is Pakistani and what we would do to eat mangos is we would squish it for some time, then once it’s squished enough we would peel off the black thing and suck the purée out, then we would cut it open and scoop the remainings out, it’s a bit messy, but it’s a fun way to eat it
No when I was young the way my family would eat mango it completely different We wouldn’t cut the mango Instead we would squeeze the mango making the insides all soft Then we would bite of the stem end and basically suck out the manga and eat it like that Then we would pop out the bone and eat whatever mango was left on that and the turn the skin inside out to eat whatever might have been left on the skin It was a really fun way of eating a mango

My caribbean family cuts it like that as well, except we skin it first and after getting the hank off the fruit we cut it longways into strips. Then, and most importantly, anything we can't get off with a knife we let the kids eat right off the seed :)
This reminds me of my dad, he used to do this to me in elementary now i'm in highschool...i really miss my dad...idk why but watching this is making me tear up
i always slice the mango vertically, and then i save the pit to chew off the extra flesh, and then i eat the slices of mango with the skin on (the skin has good nutrients, people will lie and say otherwise)
Usually, for the end pieces like you have shown, you don't have to cut the mango into cubes. You can just peel the skin off and the piece will come out as one and you can just take a big ol' bite out of it. Also, if you're just looking to eat the mango by itself, you don't even need a knife. Take ur teeth and pierce the butt (opposite side to the stem part) and you can peel the skins down and eat your mango like that. It can be a littke stringy with this method, especially the closer you get to the seed. I've also just seen people eat the mango without removing the skin. So, try that if you want, ig.
My mom has a special instrument called Boti which is very common in India. She simply cuts of the skin on the outside, and having done it all her life, she barely get any mango with the skin. i’ve always cut the small part by the stem so it stands up flat on its own, then peeled the mango carefully around, cut the fruit off of the peel, and then diced it into smaller chunks on the cutting board
In my old school's cooking club, we cut the mango and flipped it inside out and then decorated them to make little mango hedgehogs! (the mango cubes being the quills) Always a memory i'll hold close to my heart :))
