How come you don't have one million subscribers ?! This video is so useful, well imagined and so far from the usual easy stuff you usually find on youtube. Please, keep on ! Cheers from France.
Thanks so much for this, Juan! Very, and I mean VERY, clear and creative video! You are the best intermediary/advanced guitar teacher on youtube right now, man. Keep up the great work!
Excellent lesson, you found a good way to describe and distinguish very different scales. Congrats ! Unfortunately, hundreds of young guitarist focus on legato "as fast as the wind". A race to go where ? No more melodic lines. High speed makes gruel sound ... However, you are amazing ! go on !
+jamiolguitar I do! It should be out on the market in a couple of weeks! It's called "The Art of Scale Weaving". I'll let you know once it's out; I'm still waiting on the publisher to do it's thing but everything is ready to go at the moment. Thanks for the kind words and the interest!
It depends on what you're aiming for. Melodic Minor is not absolutely necessary when wanting to play a lot of genres. But if you want to sound a bit more like jazz or fusion then it definitely helps a ton!
@@juanantoniomusic it's mostly for playing "outside", right? And only running up and down scale (except you play melodic minor mode, not the other modes in melodic minor)? Because to bulid a song based on, let say mixolydian b6, it will sounds too weird? How you play arpeggio sequence with it? Or do you have an example song?
Not only to play outside, I actually love basing songs on melodic minor or the different modes. Mixo b6 sounds great to me. In terms of the arpeggios they are the same as the chords mentioned before. You can hear a ton of melodic minor and the different modes in guys like Guthrie Govan, Nick Johnston, Alex Machacek, Greg Howe, a lot of the new prog guys are using it a lot also. It's totally one of my favorite scales/sounds. And you can use any of the modes no problem. It's a matter of getting to know the ins and outs of the scale.
@@juanantoniomusic Greg Howe? Is it on album Parralax (that alot of weird melodies)? How about song "kick it all over" and "jump start", it sounds to me they're just blues scale and natural diatonic (I haven't figuring out the whole melodies on both songs).
Good playing but that is not blues, that's Rock, i dont hear any shuffle or delta blues , is just a 1,4,5 regular song like there is many in Funk, Jazz, Soul .....
I learnt in this more than I have ever learnt for the past 15 years.

+Reza Sadha Thank you for watching and commenting! :)
Wonder if you could do a similar lesson but more focused on using augmented arpeggios and scale choices in a blues context.
Got confused there on 02:31 regarding the Major Blues scale.. Do you include the 4th or not? :o
Either way, great vid! Thank you :)
You're a beast of a guitarist.
Thanks a ton man!!!

+jamiolguitar The book is out on the market! :)
Wow.. so melodic minor scale is that important! I thought natural major scale and its modes is enough

Couldn't say specifically but he uses a lot if altered in his improv in general.
