Idk what y'all are so sour about? This guy sounds great. I didn't even know he was even cooler and had it all notated out. At first I planned to learn these by ear so I could sound like jimmy herring. But now this man just saved me many hours of transcribing and some licks I will play forever in my jam band Fletcher's Grove.

I don't understand all the harsh criticism, the title says 25 jazz fusion licks... He's not comparing himself to anyone. I respect him. There shouldn't be any egos here anyway.

It is sad to see the comments here. Fusion is among the most difficult styles to play. I can play Hendrix better than 99.9% of you out there, but I can't play like this. after 45 years, I am still trying to learn. Dude, this absolutely one of the coolest videos out there. I would share, but then folks would know where I stole all these licks from

michaeljamsmith Most of these are poorly put together with sub par technique. His phrasing is just about unmusical IMO. Check out Guthrie Govan, Pat Metheny, Robben Ford and Larry Carlton. These are men with wonderful ideas and influence mostly from traditional jazz players like Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, and more.

You're really just saying that you haven't practiced efficiently and intelligently instead of highlighting the youtuber's skill.
"I can't play so and so after 50 years of playing"
Try having a different approach then, you'd think by the 25th year you'd notice you'd think "maybe I did something wrong" considering 19 year olds can play fusion just fine after a couple years of experience and some music theory.
I have serious doubts that you can play hendrix considerthing this stuff is legato 16ths, triplet 16ths, very easy rhythms. Hendrix's syncopations aren't as simple as this, sorry.

This is an all time CLASSIC RUclips tutorial. The opening demo is sublime, the way the licks are played at normal tempo then slowed down then the tablature is put onscreen is such an accessible way to learn such challenging material. That grey Suhr S-type is beautiful, too! And the blue "Strat" is equally tasty.

A recent discovery I’ve made is it’s necessary to be totally relaxed to play fast, i.e. don’t tense up the muscles in your hand, which can be tough when you’re really focusing.

This is a gem of a video and an awesome learning tool!! Just thought I'd lend some advice to intermediate players who may be jumping into this fantastic vid. Don't feel like you are limited to playing over this chord progression or backing track. What I have been doing is taking each lick and practicing them over different backing tracks with different grooves/tempos/keys. When you do this, you are forced to adapt and mutate the lick to fit in a new musical context, changing the phrasing and rhythm which now makes them yours! You can also transpose the licks to fit a given key- for example, the licks under the D7 chords can be used over A Dorian backing tracks, then B Dorian backing tracks if you move everything up 2 frets (whole step). Right now, my browser has pages open for backing tracks in C, B and Bb Dorian. Use your ear to determine which notes deserve more emphasis. There are some exceptions, for example the stretches in some licks will be too wide if you move them too far down the neck from the original key like if you were transposing from B down to G at the 3rd fret, but you can always move an octave higher instead to the 15th fret. If you play with horn players, they may need to play in flat keys which are not really guitar friendly (no open string root notes) With a little knowlege of theory, you can get tremendous mileage from just a few of these licks. To me, this is really what you need when you go to jam with people, to be able to fit what you know to a given key and make it sound musical rather than sounding like you are playing standard scales and arpeggios. Thanks so much for sharing this!!
