    I lost two good friends here, they died coming in, at night , the trawler was hit from behind by a wave, it sank , their bodies were never recovered, Gavin farley and Robert Alexander, rip,

    A very wise decision indeed. Now put the boat on the trailer and go to the chip shop and get yourself some flake and chips for $10.

    He actually did a very good job of reading the waves, and finding deeper spots where the waves weren't breaking. Going out an inlet like this can frequently be easier than coming in. When your going out, you can see where the waves aren't breaking. But coming back is, looking at the backs of the waves, it's not as obvious, and you really need to be careful.

    • @rogerkoch8170
      @rogerkoch8170 3 года назад +3

      Sorry but he didn’t read anything the fact he had a break was pure luck. At lakes or any opening you sit in the channel and count the sets, at lakes you can do from 20 metres in the safety of the channel. The fact he went out and looked for a safe chance to turn almost straight away proved he never did and just took a punt. Lakes had killed many a man and just before Xmas it tipped over a trawler and that boat skipper has got experience.

      @@rogerkoch8170 exactly what I thought too. plus he was heading out in outgoing tide which is always iffy. like you said sit back and watch the sets. I drive a haines 445 and been out of narooma. experience and local knowledge is very important.

  • @yendor9078
    @yendor9078 Год назад +3

    Wise move I think. When I was young, I would watch boats and trawlers going in and out on some very heavy swells. That was before they dredged the bar. I don't know if is better or worse. It seemed like it was easier to read back then.
