- Some interesting winter switching action in downtown Montreal in the mid 50s at Turcot yard. A mix of early switchers and road units. From NFB archives. Music in this video is from special 16 2⁄3 RPM Seeburg background system vinyl records, AKA supermarket music. Watch full movie at National Film Board of Canada, TRAIN 406, circa 1958
WOW ! It's so nice to see old stuff running around. Especially those old diesel engines (S & SW), arch and betterdorf trucks, men at work, C Liners... This is A VERY NICE footage. It would've been marvelous it was in color on top of that. Buut it's very nice anyway. Many thanks for sharing it with us.
As an O gauge modeler this is KOOL BEANZ !
I'm not into Canadian RR , but old film of RR action is still good .....thnx for posting
My switchers love them
Nice to see these old images of Turcot yard!!
View from a simpler past...
Nice pictures from the past !
Interesting to see the Fairbanks-Morse units in action. The music was a real foot-tapper!!🎶
I.never knew and I hauled them on flatbed that the tops of rail cars just sat on top of those trucks.
Wish those days were back
That brought back some memories. The old journals. The rip track. No safety vests.
Loved the flat switching on Conrail back in the day. Proper.
wow super cool vid you would not see them working outdoors today.
Within a decade the last steam would be gone, the cabooses too, and the men who worked in and maintained them, boilermakers, steam shop crews, brakemen, firemen, all redundant. If they could only have seen their future the way the number crunchers in suits did...
Thank you for sharing this footage!
To Time Date this awesome Video. By about April 1960, Steam Engines were done Operations on Canadian National Railways Tracks.
This is incredible footage, but I had to stop watching, the nostalgia was too overwhelming.
Two riders on the fork lift, safety infraction.
Awesome to see the way it was in action god so much would not happen today because of safety and so many jobs lost no longer required.
Thanks for the upload!!
"This wasn't in my job description!!!" - those F-M opposed piston marine engines
Nice video didn’t know that they had c units
CNR C-Liners were regular road units on the Central Vermont
Nice footage 👍🏻
Great Video
When steam stop lots people lost jobs most shop repair in montreal and rest canada.the yard change a lot after hunter harrison show up top.they uograde and get better organize due order bigger locomotive.
Typically Canadian scene 30 below and they're acting like it's a spring day......
so true !!
Amazing! 👍
Back when the railroads worked you to death and they still do but it's just not as hard unless they have to lay track and or clean up a spill from jumped train car or two or 3.
very nice
No graffito so nice now everything looks like crap.
Old times! From which year is the movie from? I suppose the music belonged to the movie originally.
1958 NFB train 406. thanks for watching
@@doorlayout3137 Because of 9:09-9:13 I thought it's a bit older recording.
