Oh yeah, it you want to play the Torna DLC... do it. We may know the outcome, but it explains so much, and it's very emotional. It broke me completely, I was unable to play a game for 3 days after it.
Yes, you do need to build your community and be locked from speed-running the game, but the quests give you a lot of background about the citizens, similar to Majora's Mask, if you know what I mean. And it's fulfilling to know that you helped them all before fighting Malos.
And also, Jin is an incredible main character and the battle system is far better than the one in the main story. And the battle theme is top notch.
It took me 18 hours to beat the DLC.

To add context on the whole Klaus situation, everything that happened in Xenoblade 1 and 2 was because of what he did.
When he opened the conduit many things disappeared including half of his body and "Ontos" the third Aegis/Trinity processor core who you may know as Alvis from Xenoblade 1 was also sucked in there, this explains why Malos could use a Monado when you fought him previously.
The part of Klaus that ended up in the Xenoblade 1 world became Zanza, Galea the female researcher that was with Klaus seen in the cutscene here was also sucked in and she became Meyneth the goddess of the Mechons, Shulk is also currently fighting Zanza at the same time you are fighting Malos here you could even hear his voice at 1:49:11 so both final boss fights are happening simultaneously!

You should absolutely play the dlc at some point
It comes with a smaller separate game similar to future connected and it's very much on par with the main game in terms of, well, everything except it doesn't have the annoying steep learning curve the main game had. it does change some things up a bit but it's not as difficult to understand since you already played the main game
(Also you should listen to the battle theme before you play it)
It also adds some new content to the main game such as new quests, new blades and nopon archsages challenges, you might remember that from DE

I did not like the DLC very much. The story is nice, but also not very exciting, since we know the outcome.
But the worst thing is the thing with the sidequests. Hitting a roadblock every few hours where you have to grind boring sidequests endlessly is not fun.
This was a 8-10h story bloated into a 30h mess.
XC3s DLC is much much better.

@@mrmiesfies3941 We totally don't know the outcome. We don't know how it really happened and we don't know to what point we are gonna jump.
The original game misleads the player about a lot of stuff.
Also the grinding is minimal when compared to, well, any other Xenoblade game. It's an improvement over 2 in every possible way.

It's so hilarious that you looked completely oblivious during final chapter intro cuscene, but figured it out eventually after hearing Shulk's "today we use our power to fell a god...".
Also, DLC adds a lot to the story and puts a very fun twist on the gameplay loop, so definitely give it a try. Fun fact: definitive edition of first game was released after the xc2, and a lot of people were disappointed in Future Connected because they got spoiled with xc2 expansion treatment.

To give you the basic understanding, Klaus is the reason the worlds of XC1 (Bionis and Mechonis) and XC2 (Alrest) exist. After he used the conduit's power many things disappeared into different dimensions, including half of Klaus's body and Ontos, who is Alvis.
Klaus's other half became Zanza and the assistant trying to stop Klaus from using the Conduit named Galea became Meyeneth.
The moment when you hear "Today. We use our power to fell a god! And then sieze our destiny!" Is the moment that Shulk kills Zanza, which means killing Klaus, which is why he is saying hurry to the XC2 party.

The way I see it, Elysium was a shelter for the people, if during that old war, Aion had to destroy the world. Then, people would still be able to survive in Elysium. Maybe the world was poluted and already at the edge of the void. So people needed that artifcial city in orbit to live in.
...But that was long ago. Klaus killed all humanity in the process of "creating a new universe". And so, Elysium got empty and forgotten over the millenia.
I am actually very impressed by the science fiction implied in the reconstruction of humanity. Evolution was guided by AI. The nanobots in the cloud see warrantee it. The core crystals were at the base of organic cells in every living being too. So in this world, people are part machine too. They are... partly artificial.
And the master piece of this chain are the master blades, Logos and Neuma. They are processing units that receive all information from every living being in the world and guide their evolution so they create a sustainable environment even when there are not real continents to begin with. They are the super computers that guide nature. In this world, Pyra, Mythra and Mahlos are Gaia, without knowing it, because they don't process that information in a conscius level.
    Those concepts are FREAKING AMAZING.

If you want to dive even deeper, all Xeno games are heavily influenced by Gnosticism, an early Greek interpretation of Christianity. Logos (word), Pneuma (spirit), and Ousia (existence) are essentially Xeno interpretation of a Gnostic version of the Christian trinity but not fully. Like in Christianity Christ is Logos but in Gnosticism they are separate. What's written on Pneuma's chest is "Pneuma" in Greek. Ousia was localized in the English version as Ontos but it says Ousia in Greek on the Trinity Processor. Ousia and Ontos are almost synonyms, though. God in Gnosticism is the Monad, and Monado is how Monad is pronounce in Japanese. Another aspect of Gnosticism is the demiurge, or creator god. This is a god that created the world and controls it but is adversarial to spiritualism and humanity. Gnostic myths deal with the savior (Christ) saving the world from the demiurge. In Xenoblade the demiurge is Klaus, but in 2 since he's repentant Amalthus stands in as representing the old Klaus.
Xenoblade 2 is essentially a version of a Gnostic interpretation of Christ's story. Emanations or aspects of the Monad took shape in the universe in male/female pairs called aeons (lesser gods or angels). One such aeon was Sophia (wisdom) who failed to connect with her male counterpart due to fear of existing and became lost. This accidentally created the demiurge, who created the universe to be solely material but Sophia managed to inject a spark of spirituality (pneuma) into it. Christ was sent by the Monad to restore Sophia's knowledge of pneuma so she could help him save humanity from the material universe of the demiurge.
Logos' role in Gnosticism is to be the word of god, or enact the Monad's will, but the will of the Monad is unknowable even to Logos which causes problems.
In Japanese Elysium is called Rakuen (Eden/Paradise) but it was localized as Elysium (the Greek mythology afterlife) and you got the tree in Elysium and the World Tree representing the tree of the fruit of knowledge and the Aegises (which are called Holy Grails in Japanese because their role is basically like cups that accumulate data) representing the fruit itself. Opheon represents the serpent that convinced Eve to eat the fruit, who in Gnosticism is actually considered a heroic agent of Sophia because he gets humanity to eat the fruit which gives them the knowledge of spirituality and angers the demiurge who wants to control humanity.
A lot of it also comes from Takahashi being a big fan of Jungian psychology which was also heavily influenced by Gnosticism.
