What do you think about this iconic moment that doesn't happen again for 23 seasons?
I was worried Kathey would go home and she did get eliminated on next episode.😓
Obviously, the modern rules (before season 35) are the best. If a deadlock tie occurs at the final 4, a fire making tie breaker between the two tied castaways will commence. Its a fair, satisfying way to resolve a tie this late in the game.
But, you have to crawl before you walk. This was the rocks trial period. And it impacted the game so much a tied vote didn’t even happen again until season 10. The first FOUR seasons had tied votes and the next 5 didnt because of the fear of a tie.
Poetic that with modern rules, Paschal would have been eliminated anyway.
@@kyleprocaccino4794 agreed, I hope this rule existed before that too. Many favourites have got eliminated in final four or three without getting fair shot.
Question: Why did Vecepia & Kathy throw their votes on Neleh rather than Pascal? Was it because she had two votes in the previous tribal council? Incidently Kathy had two previous votes as well, so if it came down to previous votes breaking a tie, Neleh & Kathy would tie as well with two a piece.
It's rather impressive that thing from season 4 is feared to this day and happened like 3 times if I am correct.
Yep! It has only happened in seasons 4, 27, and 33. There have been ties at final 4, but those were always determined by a fire making challenge and that one time in season 10 when there were only 2 people left.
Which is why this season needs more recognition and why Vecepia deserved to be on WAW
According to modern Survivor's rules. Paschal should of gone out anyways, since he would of been the only one to draw rocks. Since anyone with immunity can't be voted for and anyone being voted for becomes immune when rocks are drawn. So I guess it all worked out anyways.
Would Kathy and Neleh not just go to a fire making challenge and Paschal would be immune? Sorta how they did it in Palau, Panama, Cook Islands, Gabon, Worlds Apart and Kaoh Rong?
@@Matt-uv9lr They had yet to do a fire making challenge due to a tie in Survivor at this point. This rock draw was very experimental.

Survivor Marquesas is Survivor's most underrated season, imo.
Then again I have a soft spot for the first 7 seasons.
Imo Thailand is kinda underrated too. I felt more uncomfortable watching the premiere of The Amazon than I did watching the entirety of Thailand.
Survivor Marquesas is my all time favorite Survivor season
@@faultyvideos2215 I like Thailand way more than most. All those old seasons are better than what they put out these days.
Marquesas had an awesome change up in voting power at the merge. Strangely Boston Rob is the most popular contestant from the season yet he didn’t make the merge and didn’t factor into half of the season.

What’s so unique about this rock draw is normally the people up for elimination are then safe, and only those voting had to draw rocks. This changes a lot this season because then Paschal is the only one who would’ve drawn rocks, so automatically eliminated. He then votes out Neleh to preserve himself, final 2 is likely Kathy and V, Kathy probably wins.
There is a moment in Palau when Ian and Tom threaten Katie that if she doesnt vote with them they will draw rocks due to that being their only move to advance further in the game, when I saw that I thought that it could be used as a strategy to help one get further in the game if they have all the resources to do it.
Kathy was NOT playing!! She was DETERMINED to stay
It's funny how this underdeveloped resolution to ties in the final 4 is still more compelling than this new version of the final 4 we get the last couple of seasons.
It's a big reason why the last 5 seasons have been trash.
Hmm...I would've liked to see more of the strategy that went on in later seasons due to this Purple Rock draw. Palau, for example. But I guess you really are gonna handle every season seperately.

I wonder what would have happened in that Samburu tribal council if the rock draw was the tie breaker. Would every one of those eight people go to rocks, or would somebody flip

The countback tie breaker is boring. Like, super boring. But it really defined seasons 2 and 3 strategy. It also made sense for what early survivor was. ‘Dont get votes.’ Work hard around camp, be useful in challenges. The countback tie breaker was meant i think to symbolize who the least worthy player was in some way. Back when receiving votes was more weighted. Just musings
I'm pretty sure Jeff kept track of the votes for the sake of deadlocks in seasons 2 and 3.

Hmm... Top of my head.
Neleh draws the rock and goes home, Vecepia beats Kathy and Paschal on the pole and picks Paschal. Vecepia wins with the same votes as Neleh and Paschal played hand in hand.
Kathy draws the rock and Vecepia loses to Neleh on the pole and then Paschal possibly beats Neleh. But that is a coin flip between the two.

Been so long since I watched this season when it originally aired. I wonder why Vecepia and Kathy throw their votes on Neleh rather than Pascal. Had to be because Neleh had two previous votes (which tied Kathy with two previous votes) from the pervious tribal council. But that makes me wonder why at Final 5, Vecepia & Sean put their votes on Neleh rather than Pascal? Was it because Neleh wa viewed as more strategic than Pascal? I rewatched the review of the season and Vecepia's winner's video and it seems like both Neleh and Pascal at various times call out Vecepia and Sean as having a voting alliance. But if that was the case, what did Pascal and Neleh have? A voting alliance. Anyways, it worked out well for Neleh since she made it to the Final 2 while Pascal went out fourth. I think Pascal would have definitely won, had he made it to the Final 2, which is defiitely a reason for Vecepia, Sean & Kathy to vote for him rather than Neleh at Final 5. I guess Kathy liked her odds of breaking up a Pascal-Neleh alliance or winning immunity against them two versus breaking up a Vecepia-Sean voting alliance and/or winning an immunity against those two.
Why the hell don't the two people getting votes just draw rocks in situations like these? It makes no sense for those people to be immune and for the innocent players to have to put their game on the line.
The idea is to force the Survivors to make a decision. If they knew a tie would be determined between the two being voted for, it would cause a lot less strategic and social drama. Hence why for 23 seasons, people would rather vote someone out than force a tie.
Yeah, it's basically punishment for not making a decision.
To quote the great Negan, "Not making a decision, is a really bad decision!"
The non tied players are forced to draw rocks because they were not able to decide who to vote off. Ultimately, the reason falls on the non tied castaways. Hence why the two people in a deadlock become safe, and the fall goes to the people making the decision initially.
also, to get to the point of rocks, castaways have had 3 chances to make up their mind who theyre voting for. The vote, the revote and the open forum / consensus. Basically, the non tied castaways are saying ‘I want X person to stay so much I am willing to move forward to a lottery elimination.’ Its the non tied castaways votes that caused the tie, not the tied castaways.
