    Thanks so much for making this video of my journey on Survivor. It feels like so long ago and boy did I say some stupid shit. But it was the best experience and so many amazing memories. Seeing my dad and my moms letter now that I have lost both of them unfortunately brought back a lot of emotions & fond memories. Although we will have to agree to disagree on my 19 “dumb” moves :)

      That is possible, but I do think the edit was so focused on making her look worse than she was and because of that, they didn't want to give us a reason to sympathize with her until we had already formed strong opinions. I could be wrong though. Her mom had cancer and she isn't Adam Klein, so I don't think she was holding that card close to her chest until right before letters from home.

      Hard to know cuz there would have been an extra immunity challenge, but lets say her tribe went to tribal that night instead of her quitting. Rich is gone 100% so long as Jenna isn't asking to be voted out or something like that. Then comes Ethan and Jerri onto their tribe. I did not like Jenna and she was not a satisfying winner to me. She felt like an undeserving winner. I did not realize how much her edit impacted my view on her until watching this video. You clearly showed how she got a negative edit that was making her look worse. You completely changed my mind on Jenna, I have a lot more respect for her game now. I'll make sure to watch the edit more closely now for the following seasons.

    Between this season and Marquesas, it became real clear that Jeff and the editing team truly and completely hate women winners. A trend that'd be even further backed up with Amber, Dani, Natalie White, Sandra (In HvV), Sophie, Michele, etc's wins - all of which are purposefully given far less screentime than men on their seasons, all of whom are portrayed as weak players and/or underserving, and all intentionally edited to look as dumb as possible. While I do think Jenna's Amazon win would be no where close to cutting it in modern Survivor, the fact she won 6-1 and four immunities is insanely impressive and I DO wish she had been on WaW to see how much she learned and matured in the 15+ years since her winning season. GREAT VIDEO!!!!!! Not sure why Jenna giving up immunity was labelled as dumb though. Rob had flipped on his allies for the last two votes - what was stopping him from doing the same to Heidi? Well, Jenna knew Rob wanted to take her to the final two which would ultimately mean Heidi would have to be voted out. By giving immunity to Heidi, Jenna was forcing Rob to vote her way under the guise that Rob wanted to take her to the final two (shown in the episode). Even if he was still voting Christy, this is a move that shows strong strategic competency because not only did it take out someone who did not like Jenna, but ensured her closest ally would be sitting in the final two with her.

    • @OnceUponAnIsland
      @OnceUponAnIsland  4 года назад +4

      Rob offered her a final 2 deal, but she essentially spat in his face. Had she said yes to him and made him feel good then it wouldn't of been dumb. But to think she was still safe automatically after giving up the necklace was foolish and Rob even said this on his podcast.

    2:52 Jenna's winner quote. The Survivor Historians made an interesting point that Christy might have been an equal partner when it came to the bad blood that she had between Jenna and Heidi but the show could never portray their first deaf contestant as anything but a hero. I think that's why Jenna's win seems to come out of nowhere, I remember 15 year old me not understanding at the time how Matt lost to Jenna of all people based on the way the show had been presented to us and not by a 6 to 1 vote.

    I think Jenna isn’t regarded as a highkey winner only bc she didn’t use her sexuality as her secret weapon on purpose. And I only mean that in terms that she didn’t become a character with a personality. Like Parvati for example knew she was attractive and used her flirting and playful attitude to get her far. And her attitude made her memorable. Jenna knew she was attractive but didn’t really play it up in terms of flirting besides the topless time and being with alex. The men just kept her in bc she was the most attractive woman out there and overlooked her until she went on the immunity run when she was on the bottom. And it’s kinda interesting that men fans like Parvati and think she’s a great tier winner because of this while not thinking about that with Jenna just because she wanted to be more strategic player. And it’s interesting to think about with the men vs women theme

    • @bigbuffguy9589

      This is an interesting point. Jenna reminds me a lot of Michele, who is also an attractive woman who didn't rely on her sexuality and is also underrated. And while neither was Cirie from a strategic standpoint, they were both better strategists than given credit for.

The point of Survivor is to win. Not to make big moves or to be a nice person. There is no proper or correct way to play Survivor beyond what works and what she did worked immensely. Someone only deserves to win Survivor based on whether or not that they won. She won by a lot which is the whole point of the game, not to impress randoms in the comment section of a video over 15 years later. Russell and Parvati were lazy around camp, made stupid emotional decisions, and gave up immunities in Heroes vs Villains and get trounced in a jury vote and people say they're some of the greatest players ever. There are MULTIPLE confessionals FROM SURVIVOR PLAYERS outside the interviews of Survivor saying that some of "what they did" were not aired or "what they said" was packaged out of context.
    Not defending Jenna here. For me, Jenna's "obviously" attractive look pushed her far into the game. If she looked anything like Mikaela or Abi-Maria (which I think was the player emulating her gameplay the closest), she would not go as far. My point is: She might have done some work at camp life, did great strides at challenges or said some good things but were not aired.
    Survivor is being aired by a bigwig network (CBS I think). Jeff Probst admitted to compacting challenge airings to few minutes when it was shot for a couple of hours. Not surprising that they would cut airtime of most castaways' confessionals, camp life efforts or challenge efforts. They need to characterize each castaway as portraying a certain image. At a precise moment to gain viewership and money.
    Every person is unique of course but Jenna was packaged as a privileged lady who would use her craftiness (and her mother's story) to win. Being a hardworker does not fit the image.

So Vecepia voting with him until the bitter end makes her look like a liar unlike Jenna who did not deny her alliance with Heidi.

He did say he felt him and the other 3 had open minds to who they were gonna vote for since Jenna's game wasn't respected that highly. Ultimately, Matt gave them no reason to vote for him since he didn't show his strategic game was any better and his social game was way worse. Also, Rob said he liked the idea of being friends with a rich model as he envisioned being invited to lots of parties lol

    I first discovered Jenna on survivor all stars, and related to her since I also lost my mom to cancer. I didn't get to see Amazon until much later since this was pre-streaming and it wasn't released on DvD. I stanned Jenna hard though as a kid lol. I think Jenna's game is severely underrated, and the edit purposely made her look bad. Yet when you look at it through todays lenses, her win is much more appreciate and evolved. Christy was the real villain, who pissed the whole tribe off in like episode 2 when she sat down and pouted and she was the one fighting with Joanna. It's quite ridiculous when her social game was clearly superior.
    Also her giving immunity to Heidi was smart in my view. Rob was not voting out Jenna since he thought he could beat her. So it was to keep them both safe. Also I don't see her final tribal as bad. She was honest and open about her feelings and the jury saw that.
    I also think Joanna's condescending comment towards her, Heidi, and Shawna made Joanna look terrible. She was quoting Scripture and using it to be demeaning and reeked sexism. Obviously that's more through today's lenses. But I will always see Jenna as deserving, and she should've been a lock on Winners at War.

    I think black and white "smart" and "dumb" classifications are pretty disingenuous towards the player. Like losing the challenge isn't really dumb, she just lost the challenge. No doubt Jenna's in 6th place. It's hard for me to say that to someone from my home town, but it's just the way it is. From her having a social game that resembles a high school hierarchy, to her wanting to give up multiple times, to an immunity streak that carried her to the end, Jenna just fails at having a solid game, and no doubt Rob was robbed (hehe) this season.

  • @JKellenProductions

    Winner Rankings Up to This Point
    1. Brian Heidik - Completely dominated the game from start to finish, never got a single vote, won 3 immunity challenges, and everybody wanted to take him to end from the final 6.
    2. Richard Hatch - Innovated the game like nobody has ever done by creating the alliance, has one of the best moves in Survivor at the final 3, and proved that this is a strategic/social game and not a physical game.
    3. Ethan Zohn - Incredible social game, while he flew under the radar he made his own moves by orchestrating the Silas and Brandon boots, and created a scenario where he was guaranteed final 2 from the final 4 onward and has a shot to beat everyone in that final 4 with a good enough jury speech.
    4. Tina Wesson - Very similar to Ethan in that she flew on radar and made her own moves (Mitchell, Jerri, and Amber). However, she didn't win a single challenge and more importantly, took Rodger and Elisabeth further just because they were "nice" people, and only beats Colby as he threw his game down the toilet twice, in the Jury speech and not taking Kieth to final two.
    5. Vecpia Towery - While she flew under the radar, Ethan and Tina, she didn't make he own moves and goes along with other peoples plans like John and Kathy's. What keeps her above Jenna is that her ability to make moves that better herself in the game and go with the flow are assets that prevented her from being voted off.
    6. Jenna Morasca - She flew under radar, not as a strategy, but as she wasn't viewed as a threat by other players. She was just following orders from players like Deena, Alex,Rob, and Heidi for most of the game. Her challenge wins are impressive but only wins the game because Matthew is a person whose social game in inexistant.

    • @OnceUponAnIsland
      @OnceUponAnIsland  4 года назад +8

      I recommend watching all of the winners stories so far as I believe it would refute a lot of points made here. For example, Vecepia made quite a few moves all by herself that won her the game. Just to name two, she integrated herself into Rotu, which Boston Rob failed to do and Sean took forever to do, and of course coldly cut her ties/alliance with Kathy at final 3 to go against Neleh at the end who she viewed as someone easier to beat.

    • @JKellenProductions
      @JKellenProductions 4 года назад

      @@OnceUponAnIsland I said the Vecepia could make moves that better herself in the game, her integrating with the Rotu four is an example of that. I would actually argue that making that deal with Neleh hurts her game as Neleh was going to take her to final 2 anyway and didn't need to make a deal to guarantee it right in front of Kathy five minutes after she fell out of challenge.

    • @StickTrickDominoDude
      @StickTrickDominoDude 4 года назад

      @@JKellenProductions While I love Ethan quite a bit as a character, I would rank him in the bottom half of my winners list, mainly because had everything gone right with the question about the piercings in the final 4 immunity challenge, Ethan probably doesn't make it to the end. While I'm glad he did, in all fairness, he technically shouldn't have.

    • @JKellenProductions
      @JKellenProductions 4 года назад +2

      @@StickTrickDominoDude If Lex get's that question correct and wins the challenge the Boran boys vote out Kim unanimously and it is Tom, Lex and Ethan at the end. Both Lex and Ethan wanted to vote out Tom since they felt he was more like by the jury. Tom likely doesn't last very long and Lex wins the challenge and takes Ethan. If Tom wins the challenge he takes Ethan to the end simply because he has been asking people to target Lex all game. In both scenario's I would say Ethan still has a good shot at beating Lex and Tom.
