Agree 100% with your POV. This is 1 of the reasons why I never loathed Griffith like most readers did after the Eclipse because I knew he wasn't selfish out of ego. He had so much weight on his shoulders to be the perfect leader that he had to do or become vile behind the scenes.
I appreciate that! Griffith has too many dimensions to just be seen as evil and selfish, add that with his desire for greatness and it'll bring hard choices.
The nuance of this character when he still had his humanity was truly stunning. Miura did such a good job showing us through these subtle details the imperfections, empathy and trauma Griffith had faced before he became a god. He then becomes both an unbridled, unempathetic monster, but also a perfect, beautiful savior who is loved by everyone. We see that Berserk applauds humanity and its flaws; those who turn away from their humanity become the truest evil.
That's one of the best parts of Berserk. The humanity. The small things can be enough to make us evil, good, misunderstood, a hero, a villian. Sometimes you're everything at once.
I really liked when you said “a storm had just passed over, now the sun has re-emerged”. The moment and year after guts left, Griffith was sweeped up into a greater storm than he had ever experienced and when looking for the light, his dream, all he found was darkness. The sun is now the eclipse. And the hawk of darkness in born within that storm, that swirling vortex.
This! Whenever I think about Griffith’s thought process, his words sometimes don’t match his actions, which leads me to believe he does feel guilt. But like you said then he collects himself, which is what makes him so fascinating to me. What he did is unforgivable but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s one if not the best written villain of all time….still hate him though.
this moment for Griffith has always meant a lot to me. Your words really did this scene justice in a way I haven’t seen.
Cheers man.
Thank you bro. I think this moment is heavily overlooked and we never have Griffith this way before. It was a game changer.

Thank you brother. What you said captures exactly what I meant with that metaphor.

Damn, never thought of Griffith in this way. Really hidden gem of a video
this video goes hard
Appreciate that bro
this was good. right on man.
Thank you brother
Ost in the background?
Griffith is the best example of a villain so fascinating and understandable yet so detestable and horrifying at the same time
The best villians are never truly evil
